I was initially turned off by the idea of fusing French and Japanese cuisine, as well as the strange strip-mallish location; however, words fail to describe the culinary delights offered at Orris. The place is small, the staff is lean, however the tapas style food is creative and beautifully prepared. We started with an unusual take on the caprese salad, with grilled heirloom tomato and pink Hawaiian sea salt - I could have eaten a dozen of these! Next came the king crab legs (my favorite!), followed by a filet mignon with Roquefort butter. We decided to conclude with the black cod with basil mashed potatoes, but our friendly server insisted we try the foie gras and eggplant dish. Unable to decide, we ordered both and left without regret. In total, we spent around $100 (with tip) for the 5 dishes, plus one drink each. Each course was flawless, and though the service wasn't top notch, it was impressive considering their teensy tiny staff. While the decor is unimpressive, the food will absolutely leave a fantastic impression and the next time I'm in Westwood, I'll be sure to make a stop at Orris.
Pros: Some delicious standbys share the menu with several creative standouts
Cons: Unimpressive decor, but with flavors like that, it really doesn't matter!
