Obviously has a lot of friends! 2/26/2011

I'll have to say that the restaurant obviously has a lot of friends. However, their overly glowing reviews have done a disservice to the restaurant because you end up going expecting too much. The food WAS good (can't speak to the ""authentic"" part as I am not German nor have I been to Germany) and it was well priced. Beyond that, it is poorly located, small, and has little ambiance. The service is incredibly slow (although the staff IS friendly... maybe part of the reason the service is slow!) Our average meal for two people (2 drinks, an appetizer, and an entree each.. not even dessert!) took 2 hours! The waitress had to be flagged down to place our order and it took an exceptionally long time to get it. They are very slow refilling drinks and it usually only happened after we called them over and asked. We began just flagging down whomever we saw first even if it wasn't our waitress. If you are craving German food, I'd recommend it, otherwise, probably not, and I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Good for the Pflugerville area but that's about their radius. I think it will survive as long as their many friends continue to support them and hang out there but when that dries up, I'd expect to see this spot vacant again. more

AWESOME BEER SELECTION! 12/18/2010

GREAT SERVICE! Waiter was able to make recommendations and was very pleasant! VERY AUTHENTIC! The bar is awesome has a wide selection of beers i havent seen in Austin before but that I have tried in other countries! The food is great! Very tasty, simple menu but delicious! Will definitely come back and recommend! WHY ARE THEY NOT ON FACEBOOK? more

really dissapointing 10/10/2010

We also were totally disappointed with the food and service. No sarcasm here, but my boyfriend and I both felt it was the worst $50 we ever spent. We were never offered refills on our drinks. We had to flag the waitress down to order, to pay, any time we needed her. She never came to our table unless we flagged her. The food took a long time to come out and she brought the appetizer, cucumber salad, and entrees at the same time. The food was flavorless. The potatoes were runny mush. But worst of all, we didn't feel like paying customers. We were treated as if they were doing us a favor taking our money. more

Rammstein would be proud! 7/14/2010

I have been to this restaurant twice so far and loved it on both occasions. The first time I went was with 2 of my siblings and a friend. I tried a little of everyone's dish and they were all great, but I must say I had the best choice. I choose the schnitzel with mushroom sauce. Our waitress was very friendly and answered all of our questions. She made the meal complete with her attitude being so hilarious. I would go back just to see her. The next time was with another friend and I had a stew of some kind although I cannot remember the name right now it was great. We had a different waitress and she was very interesting she could speak English with an American accent perfectly, but was raised in Germany. She made great conversation with us and I saw the waitress from last time I got to speak with her as well. She remembered me from the last time I came in and the conversation we had. I have not had many German dishes, but what I have had here I do like and I like it a lot. I would advise this restaurant to anyone seeking something different or just something that taste good. The only bad part I can say is that they offer only pork only, but they explained to me that in the part of Germany that they are from the dishes they prepare are made from pork and when they do order beef not enough people ask for it so it goes bad and they lose money. Great service and great food! Pros: Great service and great food! Cons: Only meat available is pork more

Pfreakin Awesome in Pflugerville 6/25/2010

My wife and I found this place tonight while trying to get our German food fix. We stumbled onto Nuernberg Brauhaus and it was a pleasant surprise. Being from Southern Indiana where there's a HUGE German population, this is the kind of place I've been longing for...a taste of home. They have Spaten on tap. They have the most wickedly awesome homemade krauts. Homemade bratwurst. Need I say any more? Although I can't confirm 100%, I believe this to be a 100% family organization with people who really seem to care and take pride in what they do. There was live music playing, a guy who knew how to draw a beer behind the bar, the World Cup on the NICE flat screen TV behind the bar, and I was told 2 family members back in the kitchen who were responsible for whipping out the best German cuisine I've had since my great aunt Eldo (who spoke German as a 1st language...born in 1895) passed away when I was 6 years old. Make sure you go and check these guys out. They actually give a damn about what they do and how they do it. Their prices are more than reasonable ($4 for a well drawn, fresh Spaten to go along with an out of this world spin on a burger or the best Jaeger Schnitzel I've had in the entire state of Texas). Please, please, please patronize them. In these tough financial times, it would be a true loss for ALL of Central Texas to lose such a wonderful hidden gem. Pros: Homemade from scratch food, great beer, great people Cons: Not the easiest to find more

Austin's BEST German Food 6/3/2010

This is a great family run business. I am in here a lot and I always see families eating, couples and just singles in for a good meal. Being German, the food is the most authentic you will find anywhere outside of Germany. I think any negative comments about the food on here are due to Americans being used to Americanized German food. Come try how it is supposed to be! Always try the special! It is ""until we run out"" so get there early. The beer selection is great and the atmosphere is warm. Run, don't walk here! Pros: Family run, Authentic food, Great Beer selection Cons: None! Get here quick! :) more

Disappointing and definitely overpriced 5/19/2010

We have been here twice and the food just doesn't seem to live up to it's high price. The mashed potatoes are watery and lumpy at the same time...very strange! The breading on the schnitzel has no real flavor. The most disappointing item so far was the new chicken schnitzel. A tiny portion of meat with absolutely no flavor to it and only one side item...all for $11.99. I feel like if we go a third time the trick is on me. more

Great authentic food and beer, reasonable price 5/18/2010

I went to Nuernberg Brauhaus its second day and we've returned at least 4 times. If we didn't travel so much, we'd go back more often, like at least weekly. We walked in with no expectations and were immediately surprised by the authenticity and variety of German dishes on the menu. There were several flavors of schnitzel and many popular German sides. I've tried an array of things and definitely find their Brats and sauerkraut to be top-notch and as good if not better than stuff I've had in Bavaria. Erdinger Kristal and Schneider Weisse bier are two of my favorites and the fact that they have them is awesome. At $5 and $6 it's a deal too since these are very expensive beers to buy even at Specs. Everyone we've met that works there is really nice. Having lived in Pflugerville for 5+ years now, I found it an absolute treat that this place opened!! On a final note, I've had a couple issues, but none that make me even considering changing my 5 star rating: 1. The goulash is to die for. We've had it three times. However, the last time it was notably too salty. This proves that it is hand made, but we just found it too salty last time. Of course, I still ate it all and will continue ordering it since it is plain awesome. The bartender (JD) recommended we try it initially, and we're glad he did. 2. One night the place was packed, it had a waiting/standing line. There was no bartender working that night and it caused excessively long waits. Sitting at the bar I saw first hand how difficult it was for two waitresses to tend to taking orders, managing people waiting in line, pouring beer (people order a lot of beer here) and cashing people out. We even found ourselves a couple times feeling the pain of our waitress. I'd have ordered more food/beer if the service was free, but I saw that as a one-time staffing issue (it was Friday night). I could see however that this would bother a lot of people, but I see it as true, authentic, slow European service. We'll be back, probably this weekend. The place is great and authentic, and this comes from someone who spends 2-3 weeks in Bavaria every year. Prost, Brian Pros: Solid beer selection, authentic food, in Pflugerville Cons: When crowded, service tends to be too European more

One of my Favorite Restaurants 5/18/2010

My wife and I have both lived in Germany for many years and have always enjoyed German food. It is always so difficult to find good quality German Restaurants that aren't over priced. I must say that Nuernberg Brauhaus has been a welcome surprise! All the dishes are very good and priced fairly. We have been there 3 weeks in a row, this week will make number 4. We have a standing German Food on Friday night penciled onto the Calendar now! The food is very good, at least one of us has had the special each time we have been there, each time it has been great! The home-made Bratwurst is Excellent, the best I have had since living in Germany! I had Lunch there today and got a chance to speak to the owner, Jeremiah at the Bar. He was very nice, and told me the story of how his family started the restaurant. It was nice to hear that it was family run and that both he and his wife's family worked at the Brauhaus. Each of his family members came out to say hello and thank me for coming. Jeremiah's mother was very pleasant. I really felt at home. I'm just sorry I had to leave and get back to work. I felt very welcome and enjoyed my lunch (Bratwurst, Potato Salad) with an ice cold Trumer Pilsner. I highly recommend the Nuernberg Brauhaus, hopefully we will see you on Friday Nights!!! Pros: Great Atmosphere, Fantastic selection of Beer's and friendly Cons: I would like to see more On Tap Beer Selections more

Wonderful German food! 5/18/2010

Growing up as an Air Force brat I spent a few years living in Germany. We lived off base in a small town called Elschbach. Our landlady lived upstairs and she would always invite us up for meals and goodies. My husband and I ate at Nuernberg Brauhaus and it was an instantly familiar and warming feeling to taste authentic German food again! The jaegar schnitzel was exactly as I remembered it and the kartoffel salat was fantastic! I called my Dad as soon as we left the restaurant and told him he had to check it out! We live south of Austin but it is well worth the drive. more

Nuernberg Brauhaus 5/18/2010

1. We ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel and Schnitzel im Broetchen. 2. The order was on our table in less than 6 minutes...so the Schnitzel's were not ""made to order"" and it was evident. The gravy was warm but the meat was not. The thickness was not consistent. 3. The Sandwich, with the sauerkraut on the plate was so soggy it was hard to hit without it falling apart. The kraut should be placed in a small bowl (since that was the size of serving we received) so the sandwich stays edible. 4. The taste of everything was good..but not sure worth a repeat business. I offer this review as a way of improving or at least taking into consideration. We were very excited at the prospect of having a great new restaurant in P'Ville. Pros: Sauerkraut and Blaukraut was great Cons: lukewarm food more

THe Best German Food I have had in Texas 5/18/2010

My husband and I went to Neurenburg Brauhaus a few weeks ago. We were left wanting more. The décor is charming. The staff who is all family was very inviting and eager to know what we thought about our meals. My husband had the curry brat, which I thought was strange, because he doe not care for curry. He stopped long enough from eating to take a bite of my meal. I had the Braut and sauerkraut. I love sauerkraut, when done well; they knocked it out of the park. When we done with our meal we asked for a side of the red sauerkraut it was sweet and delicious, you could have put a scoop if ice cream on it and served it to me as a dessert. We can’t wait to go back for more! Pros: Homemade just like Oma used to make. Cons: Still new and working out the kinks more

Tasty, authentic German food 5/18/2010

We went to the Brauhaus for dinner and enjoyed the food. This is authentic, regional German cuisine, which varies from region to region in Germany, so just enjoy the taste adventure. Service was excellent, even when busy. The owners and employees are very caring and you can tell they put their heart and soul into making sure every customer is 100% pleased. Another plus - this place is within walking distance from our house Pros: Flavorful, filling and good prices more

Response to first review from ""PARC"" 5/17/2010

My family and I have not seen where you actually reviewed our restaurant. I am going to answer each of your points and try to stay as respectful as I can since you clearly see it fit to use sarcasm and outright ugliness as your review. Its unfortunate that you didnt ask for the manager, or owner as we could have taken care of this in person vs going back and forth on city search. This Goulasch is prepared with all fresh ingredients. Nothing is pre-packaged. What you don't know is that in every region of Germany, there is a different style of Goulasch soup, and this is the exact style that you will get when in Nurnberg Germany. If you'd like, I would love to take you into the kitchen to meet the Head Chef Sonja Vogt who is from Germany and brought her recipes with her so she has an opportunity to ask about your review. I wish you could have asked some of our repeat customers about the goulasch soup. The comments they tell us is that its the best they've ever had, or its the best in the state of Texas. Second, The Wiener schnitzel - you are wrong in your statement that the only thing authentic is that it was pork. Actually, if you've been to Germany anytime recently there are many styles of authentic schnitzel. There's Veal, Turkey, Chicken and pork based on where you are. In Nurnberg = pork. You say it all has to be pounded thin and has to be uniform. we tenderize and bread all of our schnitzels by hand, and when you are making hundreds of schnitzel a day, you simply can't make every single one to the exact same thickness. no machine. its a knife and a tenderizer. You also say that the schnitzel didnt have the right mix? You have been the only one in the two months we've been open to say that. Again, when you make everything by hand, you won't be exact every time because we're human. There is no mix as you state, we follow a set number of steps to fully bread our schnitzels. you're Zweibel schnitzel - I saw your schnitzel when you returned it, and it was more than half eaten, so I have to say that your statement of returning it after three bites is false. It was also cooked all the way through. The style of meat we use (pork loin) has a tendency (two so far) to remain pink even though it is in fact cooked thoroughly. Your schnitzel was no more than a 1/4 inch thick. We have no ""home-cut fry machine"" as you note. These are cut and put through our small vegetable slicer by hand. There is nothing automatic about it. These are true hand cut -homemade french fries and I am glad you liked them. As you requested, we did not charge you for the zweibel schnitzel. I asked your waiter (who's first day on the job was that Saturday) to X it off the ticket. I am a bit upset with your ""5 dollar tip"" comment too. I am never reluctant to do anything that concerns my family’s restaurant. We only have one register in our restaurant and that's behind the bar. we have changed our process a little in that, we leave the ticket on the table so if you're ready to go, you don't have to wait for the waiter/waitress to come back, you can simply walk up to the bar and I'll get you taken care of. That night, I did have some friends at the bar; they are actually repeat customers that come at least once a week. There was only one person that I know of that was at the register more than a minute or two and I apologized for the short wait and quickly took care of that gentleman. On behalf of my family, we are very sorry that you were not absolutely pleased with our food. We want everyone that comes to our restaurant to feel and taste Germany in a quaint little spot in Pflugerville. My mother-in-law (head chef) loves to cook, and she loves to see only smiles, but knows that we simply can't make everyone happy. What your mean comments do state is that we can never get complacent, and always need to strive to re-invent, and make every plate the best way we can. To everyone else reading this, my apologies if I came off any other way than upset. Pros: authentic Southern Bavarian German Food more

Don't go for real Schnitzel 5/16/2010

We went here On a Saturday during Deutschenfest. It certainly wasn't crowded, but did have a good flow of people in and out. We had the Goulasch Suppe, Wiener Schnitzel and Zwiebel Schnitzel. Pretty easy dishes to make and get ""right"". First: the goulasch was not what we expected. Neither of us was particularly happy with it, but that may be from regional expectations (our families are heavily influenced by Vienna and Hungary). Second, the Wiener Schnitzel: the only thing authentic about this main dish was that it was pork. It was not pounded thin and was not uniform thickness. The breading was burned and not the correct mix of flour and bread crumbs. I chose german potato salad as my side. What came out resembled the potato salad that my grandmother used to make in that it had potatoes, but that's about it. It appeared to be baked potatoes partially mashed and mixed with a little vinegar. There were no onions or bacon that I would expect in even a half-hearted attempt at potato salad. Zwiebel Schnitzel: My wife order this with pommes as her side. Of all the things we had, the pommes were the most appetizing in that they were standard ""pass them through the home-cut fries machine and fry them."" See my Wiener Schnitzel notes for an overview, but in addition her's was almost 1/2"" thick in places, causing it to be raw in spots. It was sent back after about 3 bites. Amazingly, the waiter wouldn't take our payment -- we had to get the attention of the bartender to pay, something he was reluctant to part from his new ""5 dollar tip"" friends at the bar to take care of. We would not willingly go here again. Added: It has been brought to my attention that the waiter was new. We noticed this, but didn't mention it in the review -- my mistake. Pros: There's at least German language on the menu Cons: The food isn't actually authentic german more
