Best

We have had experience in the bar area for dinner and just for drinks. We love the quietness, the staff is awesome and seems to know what we want before we even say anything. Ev...

Worst

The service was horrible. It took 45 mintues to an hour to get a pizza. I have NEVER waited that long to get a pizza at any other Italian resturant.

OMG I love thier pizza and so do my customers 5/6/2008

While the pies are quite spendy they are the best in Oregon, the best I have had outside NY and Chicago... more

READ MY LIPS, ""WORTH... EVERY... PENNY..."" 4/24/2008

Simply amazing. I get full usually off 2 pieces of pizza there (and they're small pieces!!!) Generous with the ingredients. Ambience is great Italian. Service is highly rated.\r \r I've been eating here since I was a kid and honestly, no pizza place comes close to this, nor ever has in the Portland Metro area. Pros: Un-matched pizza, great value for what you get Cons: Having to leave was the worst!!! more

Overrated 2/29/2008

We went to this Italian restaurant after several of our friends and coworkers recommended it. The first thing we noticed, strangely enough, was that the entrance was at the back of the building. We walked all the way around to the front before having to backtrack and search for the front door! We were able to be seated right away, despite it being a busy weekend night, and we were happy with the table we were given. However, we waited for around 5 minutes for our waitress to even greet us and she seemed rushed and hassled. I understand that she was busy, but good waitresses don't let their stress show. We were less than impressed with the obviously bagged iceberg lettuce salad (and what Italian restaurant doesn't have a house vinaigrette!?) and even further disappointed by our entrees. I had the manicotti...a greasy, cheesy mess with cotton dry ricotta inside. My husband had a sort of rigatoni...equally unimpressive. For around $12 an entree, it was very disappointing. My advice: save your money! Pros: Quick seating, decent decor Cons: Food, service, price more

Love their food 2/17/2008

I was at this restaurant last night and had their lasagne for the 4th or 5th time. Their pizza is very good, one of the best I've ever had. And their lasagne is top-notch. I absolutely loved it. Money well-spent. Pros: A guy that walks around playing the accordian, great food, big portions Cons: Sometimes a wait to get seated more

no imagination and lots of cheese -over priced 11/30/2007

Food is served big, with no imagination and lots of cheese. My Veal was hard as a roof tile; my salad was out of a hospital cafeteria with iceberg lettuce and dressing that would make Paul Newman shudder, and my wife's eggplant was over cooked and nasty.\r \r The anti pasta did not even have an olive. Just of carrots, more cheap cheese and bad salami. Anyone who thinks this a real Italian must think the Olive Garden is Roman owned chain. Stay away and open a can at home and get better results. Pros: good wines Cons: read more

Terrible, Bad, Awful food with great service! 11/3/2007

Whomever thinks this food is at all edible needs to stop smoking the local shrubery! \r We started with the calamari, OH MY GOD! When she brought it to the table, we thought she brought the wrong thing and gave us chicken fingers! I've never seen calamari like this! The tenticles were cut lenghtwise, instead of in rings. Horrible! \r Then we ordered the Chicken Verdura, which was nothing more than a giant plate of pale, bland chicken and veggies with cheap, awfule whole wheat pasta, swimming in a vat of oil and garlic. The garlic was so powerful, I feared that the restaurants had a vampire problem! The odor was so bad, we had to have it taken from the table. They did not remove this item from our bill, either. We ate NONE of it! The pizza my Husband and Father split was the worst I've had in this area. I swear the dough is Pillsbury buscuits mashed together and rolled out. The only redeeming quality of the night was the great wine we ordered, and our server was amazing! Unfirtunately that is not enough to bring us back. Pros: Service is great Cons: Food is awful more

Worst italian food ever 9/24/2007

About 15-20 years ago I would have a business lunch here on occasion. I was young and appreciated a football-sized calzone, which is one of the things that made them famous. I met some friends here for dinner last night since they live in the burbs and one of the parties requested Italian food. I read the reviews before going out and was hoping for the best. What a disappointment. The vegetarian antipasti consisted of carrots, celery, pickle slices, provolone and peppers. The meat version had what looked like salami. The dinner salad was iceberg lettuce, drenched in blue cheese with some crappy store bought croutons. The highlight of the meal was the garlic bread and even that was mediocre at best. I ordered what had to be the worst Eggplant Parmesan I?ve ever had. It was smothered in cheese but was almost 100% void of any sauce. I had to ask for a side of sauce which helped make it edible. My girlfriend split a vegi calzone which was covered with cold cheese that had not melted, like you might see in a salad. We happened to bring our own wine for a special occasion which the waitress practically ruined by popping the cork and then pouring each of our glasses to near the rim in some crappy glassware so you couldn?t swirl the wine to let it breathe. My only recommendation is that if you end up here, try the pizza and hope it is better than any of the food our party of 6 received. Pros: The size of calzone - but does it matter when they aren't good? Cons: Food, service, decor more

Best Pizza on the planet! 9/22/2007

I have been eating pizza for a while now, all over the country, and none can compare to that at Nona Emilia's! It is so delicious. The toppings are good and plentiful, the sauce is good, the crust is amazing and thick. I dream of this pizza when I am away from Oregon. I saw the other reviews here, and all I can say is that I love the pizza sooooo much that I haven't been able to try the other Italian dishes. You can't go wrong with the pizza and you better show up hungry....they are pretty good sized! Pros: Delicious Food Cons: Easy to overeat! more

Holy Calzones Batman! 9/19/2007

This restaraunt in in fact the bees knees! The service is wonderful from the get go! Hostesses are the friendliest around, and the waitstaff are REAL people and not your average diner Robot drones! My boyfriend and i were catered to in this niche litttle italian place. the food is endless and the taste is euphoric! not a damn thing wrong with this restaraunt! not one thing! Pros: staff, food, atmosphere. Cons: finding parking. can be verry busy... so prepare more

Unsatisfying ""Chow"" 6/13/2007

Disappointing. Very disappointing. The service was slow - and it wasn't that busy (Tuesday night). The Antipasto plate was a joke (carrot sticks and celery). The rigatoni sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee and the gnocchi was undercooked and completely doughy. It took us well over an hour and a half for two us to be seated, served our drinks, antipasto plate, salad, and meal. We could have been finished in 15 minutes as we didn't care to finish any of the courses. more

What a disappointment! 3/20/2007

My boyfriend took me here for dinner for a special date night. We were very disappointed. Our waitress was horrid! She took our order and we never saw her again, I actually had to ask another waitress for our check! The 'garlic' cheese bread had no garlic and too much cheese. My lasagna had no flavor besides the over abundance of cheese and my boyfriends pasta plate was very bland. There was no flavor in the sauce and way too much cheese on everything! Even the soup was bad, I had to add tons of pepper. This is one of the rare occasions that we actually left NO TIP! Pros: large portions if you are hungry Cons: horrid service, no flavor more

Overcooked pasta 3/9/2007

My wife and I have been to Italy a couple of times, and both times for stays 3 weeks or longer. W are adventurous and would try food all over the large and small towns we visited, so I'd say we should know what good Italian food tastes like. Well, this isn't it. As some others have mentioned, the pasta was overcooked and bland. Pasta should have a ""bite"" to them, and shouldn't be like the limp stuff served here. It might taste fine to some, but it definitely isn't authentic. They do serve a lot of it though.\r Pros: Quantity Cons: Quality of pasta more

Definitely NOT authentic Italian 11/21/2006

Nonna Emilia is definitely not authentic Italian. Their meat and marinara sauces are bland, their pasta is overcooked, their chicken parmigiana has so much cheese on it any authentic Italian chef would consider this menu a disaster. Their portions are enormous too, which takes the joy of savoring your food. I've been to Italy plenty of times, especially to several villages away from touristy destinations, and the one thing I can tell you is this is far from real Italian cooking. Pros: Accordionist Cons: Food, service was subpar more

NOW THIS IS ITALIAN!!! 10/20/2006

If you don't like this place then you don't like real italian food. \r It is not ""New York Italian"" or ""Olive Garden"" or a hybrid of chain restuaruants.\r It is the authentic taste of Italy. I recommend the Lasgna and Gnocci. Those are their signature dishes. The Pizza is very good as well.\r \r I have been going to Nonna's since I moved to Portland in 1996. I have never \r been dissapointed. Everything is made from scratch the traditional italian way. Pros: HUGE DELICIOUS PORTIONS!! Cons: That it is not closer to my house more

WOW, This is the best Italian food . 10/12/2006

I've been to Italy and the food at Nonnas is as good if not better than may favorite ristorante in Florance. I can't belive that you can find food that good in a little town of Aloha, OR. Thanks to Nonnas for that quality of food that I only thought you could find in Italy. Pros: Always consistant more

WHAT'S THE HYPE ABOUT? 9/22/2006

I had heard so much about what a great place this was and decided I had to try it. I like the old fashioned Itailian resurant feel. I liked the appitizer with meat and cheese, a little differnt than other Itailian resurants. I ordered something with a garlic cream sauce, my sister ordered the alfredo. They were the same thing! And bland! Tryed to help it along with some salt and pepper but didn't help much. We didn't eat much. Got to go boxes (really good portion size) figuring we could add something to it at home but just ending up throwing it away. I don't know... maybe their red sauces are better? Pros: ambience, comfortable, good portion sizes Cons: cream sauce more

The best itailian food in town 7/10/2006

This is the best italian food in town. I warn you the serving sizes are huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Huge portions at a pretty decent price 7/4/2006

Nonna Emilia's is our cheers. We love how much food you get with your meals (we can easily split the lasagna, anti-pasta plate, side pasta dish, garlic bread AND salads that are included with ONE dinner) between two people and be more than full. The waitstaff is super friendly and accomodating and the menu has a pretty extensive list of good dishes. The salads are a little bland, mostly ice berg lettuce and the caesar is a real disappointment, served on iceberg lettuce with a very salty caesar pesto dressing that is NOT good. The wine list is a little lacking, but they still offer some decent wine at very decent prices. The service in the bar is slower, but there is no need to sit in there unless one smokes or gambles, as the restaurant is very large. The booths are a little uncomfortable (think high backed picnic style benches) but the accordian player is always a treat and will play requests for a small tip. The service is fast and most of the food is great at very reasonable prices for HUGE portions. Pros: Huge portions, great service and good food at this Beaverton staple keeps us regularly coming back for more Cons: The salads need much improving as does the uncomfortable seating more

Worst experience in greater Portland! 6/4/2006

My husband and I were excited to try this place, but could not have been more disappointed with every aspect of our experience! The food was terrible to the point of inedible. If I made something like that at home it would have gone directly in the trash. The prices seemed high, the portions were average, the service was slow and unresponsive though the restaurant wasn't busy. Everything tasted oversalted and burnt. The only thing even barely edible (and we're NOT that picky) was the garlic bread. Spaghetti Factory is more authentic and better tasting (and that's saying something! hehe) Cons: disgusting food, poor service, dingy setting more

YUM 2/15/2006

Great food great place. Go on fridays and get live music played at your table. (If you wish) Pros: pizza, big portions Cons: don't deliver more
