Janis who works at Nirvana is hands down the best stylist I have ever had! She is the first to listen to what I really want and is able to design and execute a perfect style that leaves me feeling confident and beautiful! She has a wonderful eye for style and is great with my long layers. It gives me that fresh out of bed, loads of body look that I love! She has also highlighted and colored my hair at different junctures! When I had my hair highlighted, the compliments were endless. You know how some stylists don't really get down to the scalp leaving you with some space? Not her... It's perfect! This winter I went with an overall darker color and she was able with her expert eye to help me pick a perfect rich burgendy that was perfect for my skin tone. Have you ever left a salon feeling self consious about your hair? Telling yourself ""it will grow back"" or ""the color will fade over time""? I have. But when I left Nirvana Salon after having my hair saved by Raymond, I felt invigorated, younger, prettier, and I wore it down instead of hiding it in the bun it was so used to. I love getting my hair done by Raymond because he is so honest he'll let me know what style works for me and which ones really don't. He's funny, personable, and he really listens and gives his input before he does anything. The salon makes me feel welcome every time I go because everyone is so friendly, they don't pressure you but are there if you have a question. They know their product line very well so they're able to point you to the specific shampoo, conditioner, etc. that was made for your hair type. I love my Aveda Scalp Benefits shampoo and conditioner, it's like they were made for my hair and they smell great too! Before I go, I must say my favorite part of the ""Raymond / Nirvana Experience"" is the scalp massage you get when your hair is being washed. Nirvana is a wonderful experience. I went in for my first appointment not too long ago and met with a Hair Stylist named Christine. She was so sweet and had such a wonderful personality. She immediatley offered me something to drink. Once I sat down, we went over everything I wanted from cut to color. It was wonderful. We went through the color swatches and chose which would look great with my skin tone and chose a great color. Once I sat with my smock, I was immediatley asked if I needed anything and I got a wonderful hand massage which felt immpecible. Christine has such a nice touch with everything she did. She gives the best head massages and they could put you to sleep. Shes so wonderful. Also their make-up was unbelievable! It looked so beautiful and has such natural tones! The whole Nirvana experience was unbelieveable. It had such a warm enviornment with nice music playing. All the stylists were so kind to me and I have never felt so comforatable in a salon. Everything is worth it. This salon was unbelieveable and I was so pleased. I will definatley be back again. Especially with Christine as my stylist. I've tried way too many salons in the area before getting discouraged and having to look online for something new. Nirvana has a great website (which i found on citisearch) with the stylist's bios and portfolios. I loved looking through to find the right match for me and my hair. I made an appointment with Raymond, who has a great bio and works with my hair type. He is iso ncredible and so nice! He wasn't pushy or snooby like most hairdressers (sorry gals). He was easy to talk to and layered and colored my hair a beautiful carmel blonde with golden brown. He styled it so perfectly smooth and beautiful I had to go out with my new hair that night...and guess what??? I meet a new guy who asked me out and we're on our 3rd date!!! Ok, tmi but I am so happy and I know it was my hair that turned heads that night. I am forever indebted to Raymond and if I end up marrying this guy, Raymond is definetly doing my hair!!! more

From reading soo many good reviews about Nirvana, I didn't get the cut and style that I expected and anticipated. The service was great; all stylists that I came across were very friendly and outgoing. However, the main reason I went to Nirvana was for a haircut and my hair cut turned out to be below my expectations. Before going into Nirvana, I had long layers so this time I wanted to try something new and add more layers starting at the chin. My layers do not start at the chin, rather, the top layer starts at about my eye, which is very short. The other layers were cut at different and random lengths so random that I don't even know what to do with my hair. I've worn my hair in a pony tail all weekend, although I've had to pin the short parts down since the shorter lengths don't hold in the ponytail. Now I'm hoping that this cut wil grow out in a month or hopefully sooner. I am always up for change. It doesn't bother me to have a change in style but when your layers are unproportional, change becomes a problem. There's the first layer, and although there are slight layers in between, the first layer is so heavy that my hair style is seriously shaped like a mushroom. I will not go back to Nirvana. more

Jessica gives the best cut I have ever had! She really listens to what you want. I have a really hard time trying to communicate how I want my hair to look, but Jessica is able to deciper all the information I give her and give me the hair style of my dreams. more

I had my hair done at Nirvana for my wedding and was amazed at the excellent service I received! I have to rave about my stylist, Lauré for hair and Shawna (who did my makeup) they were awesome! I previously went to the Atelier Aveda salon in Santana Row before trying out Nirvana. I have long, straight black hair, and requested someone who was good with Asian hair when making my appointment. The stylist they recommended for me did an excellent job with my hair color, making it look natural with subtle highlights. I am very happy with my hair color. For this, I am extremely thankful. \r The negative part was that I specifically instructed her to TRIM my hair and add a few layers only to the sides. I told her that I'm getting married and wanted to have my hair in long, loose waves for the wedding. It took years to grow it out and keep it healthy. To my horror, she quickly sheared away long locks of my hair. She didn't touch the inside layers of my hair (closest to my neck and back), and left them thin and long. With the other top layers, she snipped away so much of it that my hair is no longer thick and full. My hair looks ridiculous with long, thin strands of hair going 3/4 down my back. With the other layers, she cut them at all different, random lengths, with the very top layer starting at my neck (12 inches above the longest strands). I was in shock and near tears seeing long locks of my hair on the floor. I didn't realize she was cutting so much off the back until it was too late. Even after I asked her what she was doing, she didn't really reply and kept cutting and snipping away as if she was addicted to cutting more and more off. When she finished, she proudly said, ""Look, now it's much lighter and isn't so heavy."" I didn't want my hair to be light, thin, and layered everywhere like an 80's male rock band member! (Think raggedy, layered Bon Jovi hair). I wanted it to be thick, long, and beautiful. People have always complimented me on my hair, and my fiance especially loved my long hair. Now, most of my hair is gone and I'll have to look in to fake extensions for my wedding to fill in my hair, because it's so thinned out. \r I'm still horrified that she didn't listen to me at all when I said I only wanted a trim. It was really selfish of her to do what she wanted to do despite my wishes, and not even ask beforehand. I was charged a hefty fee for a full haircut , too. I'll never return again. more

Nirvana is the best salon in the Bay Area. Laure is a genius when it comes to hair. It is the first time in my life that I let my hair air dry and it still looks beautiful. I enjoyed this salon. And I have been to a lot of salons, mostly because I move a lot, so I have definite standards. I thought that the price-performance was excellent, especially considering the salon's in Los Gatos, and my stylist, Victoria, was definitely very good with color and knowing what styles are happening. Also while the stylist was putting the highlights in, you could tell he was in a hurry since there was another client of his waiting for her highlights to set. Other than that, I'm pleased with the highlights and haircut. The stylists also do not make suggestions for your hair, rather they concentrate on giving you what you ask for. Great place for the convenient/posh location, but I wish it were less $$$. Another time I was there, I was starving and they had ordered a pizza and let me have a slice! Also, TRY THE TEA. Yum. When I went to get a touch up on my color I wound up with no touch up at all. The girl was incompetent and couldn't figure out how to turn my natural hair color to the color I wanted. After four hours and two attempts, I finally left exasperated and broke. All in all it cost me over $150, four hours of my time, and I got no results. more

I have been looking for a salon in the bay area that carries natural hair color for so long. I am very pleased to have found this salon. My stylist was wonderful, very caring. She colored my hair with aveda color and my hair is very healthy. I have been back and forth to SF but now can stay closer to home for my hair. I highly recommend this salon. Nirvana is a sanctuary for renewal. When I travel, I look for Aveda salons because I know I'll find quality and talent with the stylists.
