Nirvana Aveda Concept Salon

I was going to Aveda salons for years, and whenever I move, I always look for one in the area. I found one, and it was horrible experinece. So, I looked more and found NIRVANA... \r I recently went to Nirvana for my first visit and was very happy with the results. My stylist, Jenise, made sure she understood what I wanted done with my hair but also gave her opinion when I asked for it. She toned my hair that it wouldn't be any bassiness and I loved the hair color she recommended! I also appreciated the advice she gave me to maintain my hair color and to keep my hair as healthy as possible. She also corrected my owful haircut from my previous experience, and it looks great. Definitely recommend this salon, high quality service together with spiritual Aveda approach. I just went and got my haircut yesterday at the Nivana Aveda Salon and I loved it! I recently moved from San Diego back up to San Jose and I've been searching and searching for a place to get my haircut. I'm totally crazy about my hair and always nervous about finding a new hairdresser. I read all the great reviews about this salon and decided to give it a try. Made an appointment and the young girl on the phone was very pleasant to speak to. Got there and was surprised to see what a tiny salon it was, but was still excited about the amount of clients that were coming and going in the salon. I was greeted, on time, by my stylist, Raymond and then we went off to his chair. I liked him instantly. He asked me what I wanted and then explained step by step what he was going to do with my hair. I loved it! I got a wonderful aromatic scalp massage at his chair and then once again at the shampoo bowl. While he was cutting my hair, he explained again what he was doing step by step and when i was done, I was so excited! I have very thick hair and sometimes people dont understand how to work with that hair, but he did a wonderful job! already made my appointment for 6 weeks! I will definitely be going back soon and I already referred him to some of the girlfriends that were in the market for a new hairdresser! I'm VERY VERY particular about certain things & my hair is 1 of them. Ask any1 who knows me & they'll tell you that my haircut was a LONG time coming. I spent months doing my homework, from buying every mag available, looking online, asking around, talking 2 friends, & making consultation appt's. I read review after review & FINALLy after a long while decided to go with Nirvana. Now I'm not gonna lie, I was HELLA NERVOUS! My hair was down to my butt & the last time I got my hair cut short it turned out HORRIBLE. I arrive @ Nirvana 4 my consult & to my delight, EVRYONE in the salon had GOOD HURR =) maybe its just me, but if i walk into a HAIR salon & the people i'm trusting my hair with look like a hot mess, than you can definately count me out. Not only did they have good hair but their make up was awesome too (yes, they not only offer a hair haven but do make up too..how convenient and kool is that) anyway, i digress..oh yeah..so i'm waiting for my appt, which for the most part was right on time (u can't expect things to be right on the dot) and my stylist SHAWNA was GREAT!! She had hella cute hair from the cut to the color & she was sooooo nice. She listened to me as well as give her professional input. She made me feel relaxed & excited at the same time (imagine that) Long story short, SHAWNA KNOWS HAIR!! In my honest opnion, from the receptionist 2 the intimate sized salon, Laure has a good thing with a service that is really geared towards their clients. The salon offers GREAT Aveda products that are less harsh than most and smell great & the oil massage 4 your head is awesome..u can't go wrong with that. Well i know this review is lengthy, but if you've made it this far and don't remember anything else i've written, at least remember this...GREAT stylist (especially SHAWNA) intimate salon, AWESOME products (which by the way are bottled in recycled material..this salon has done a lot to ""Go Green"") and just SUPERB service..I've FINALLY found MY salon. After many years of getting my hair cut and colored by just okay hairstylists, I was so excited to have found not only an outstanding salon, but hairstylist as well. Before coming to Janis, I had my hair cut to a new style that ended up thinning out my hair to the point that I was unhappy with it. Janis was able to bring back the fullness in my hair that I once had while giving me a cut that I loved. \r Aside from having an eye for great cuts, the woman can color! As with many people who go to an new stylist, I was concerned about getting my color done. I had Janis take on the challenge of trying to color my newfound gray hair. She was able to find the perfect color combination and highlights to easily manage my ""natural color"" that matched better to my skin tone than my previous color.\r Nirvana is a one of a kind salon. I don't know if it was the scalp massage, or the choice of water, tea, or wine, but my experience wouldn't have been as outstanding without the relaxing and welcoming atmosphere of the salon. I did not enjoy my experience with this Aveda salon because of the lousy service. First off the stylist managed to squirt aromatheraphy oil into my eye and second she did not adhere the cape around my back causing a ton of hair to go down my clothes and back. I felt terrible after my haircut and will never come back to this salon. The Santana Row Aveda salon is much better, go there and spare yourself the trouble. I have been to many hair salons. I have had bad hair cut and I have been to many stylists. I have never liked getting my hair cut, because I have never had a good hair cut. I went Nirvana and seen Christine. I did my research on their website and found that Christine was the best fit for me. I had the best hair cut; I have ever had from any hair stylist. Janis has been consistently providing me with the best hair cut and color. I am not good at telling the stylist what I want done to my hair, but Janis is able to take my few ideas and help me choose the perfect style. I have never had a style that did not flatter my face, and the color is always perfect. Even when I said I was getting bored with what I had been doing (and was ready to do something drastic) Janis was able to give me a new look that still fits me. She is the best stylist ever! I love that she works at Nirvana, because I love the Aveda products and relaxing atmosphere. Pros: Quality Service and Products..The best stylist!! I have been going to Christine for over a year now. She always gives me an awsome haircut and I love the relaxing environment. I am a man and never wanted to color my hair as I have seen men with fake looking color. Christine talked me into trying some color and wow, it looks so natural. When I went back to work my co-workers asked me if I had lost weight. They couldn't quite firgure out what was different. Thank you Christine! Seriously. i have been to many many salons... all over california.. even in LA.. and i have never been happier with my hair! i went in to nirvana not expecting much, since the salon is so small... but i came out absolutely thrilled!!!! like i said.. ive never been happier. she gave me the best color ever, it was exactly how i pictured it.. then the hair cut was just as amazing! i am soo glad i found nirvana and christine!! i will never ever go anywhere else!!.... oh and the products were fabulous! and she even gave me an aroma therapy hand massage!!!! i am soooooooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!! Being a man I never really had a need or a desire to go to a salon I always did the barbershop thing. Recently my wife decided to make me an appoitment and drag me along with her to the Nirvana Salon. I have to admit I was surprised with the service and the atmospere. My hairstylist Raymond was great, he was very knowledgeable, I have received many compliments on my hair, so now when I go I tell him to do what he thinks would look good and it always does. Nirvana is a great salon I would recommend it to everyone, and for the guys who think a salon is not for a man think again the service is great and the women who work there are beautiful. more

Starting out to find a new salon with a new hairstaylis can be a pain! I've found someone who knows how hard it is for me to feel comfortable with them cutting my hair. I wanted to say that Raymend had made me feel good and has givin me a great look=). Giving me Long layers and giving my hiar a lil more shape to it. i've been coming to Nirvana for months and i love it they make you feel at home and there all very friendly. I've recommended Nirana to my friends and suggest anyone else to try it out. more

I was a little nervous about getting my highlights done since i didnt want them to look bad and i've never had them ! Going to Nirvana to get them done though was a great choice. I gave my hairstylist Raymond an idea of what color i wanted and what style i was going for and I left the rest for him to handle. He picked out the perfect shades for my skin tone. What a great experience at this spa, my hairstaylist was awsome (Raymond, YOU HAVE TO REQUEST HIM). Honestly everytime I come to him at always 110% satisfied,he is great and at least for me it was very refreshing to know that he was listening to my needs. \r The place where I used to go before was treating me like a number,at some point I felt that they were giving me the hair cuts and styles that they wanted ignoring what I really wanted to have done,after all it was my hair and my money, right?\r Again, I would highly recomend Nirvana,a very unique spa with a very unique hair stylist Raymond.!!\r \r more

Like many women, I'm on a search for the 'perfect stylist'. After getting my hair butchered at the usual Asian salons I trusted to give me okay results (I never expect spectacular results, I'm hair jaded), I picked Nirvana since it was picked a 'best of'. I picked Adeline for my stylist (*no longer works here*) after looking at her photo & portolio on the website, I knew I could get the edgy modern cut I wanted with her. And she knew how to cut Asian hair! \r \r I was NOT disappointed. I seriously got the bet haircut of my life. I loved the aromatherapy treatment beforehand (though she didn't seem too happy about being required to give a scalp massage and rushed through it) and the obvious attention paid to clients. The haircut turned out even better than I expected and she gave me useful advice about my hairtype and how to get the look recreated.\r \r True, the salon is VERY small and the decor is a step up from your average cookie cutter 'finer' salon, but I found the people who worked there to be unpretentious and on the friendly side. The overall vibe is calm. I never felt anyone giving me attitude or put on that harried, self-important and just plain rude receptionist act.\r \r My only peeve was that in the winter I was sitting with dripping hair and a wet towel and Adeline didn't want to get me new one because this was 'my towel. I remember thinking how CHEAP can you be for a pricey salon?\r \r Otherwise, after that initial haircut, I moved away but continued to see Adeline for cuts and colors when I was visiting. I was consistently impressed and satisfied with the results and her professionalism.\r The price was definitely worth it and the rates are NORMAL for a boutique salon - just consider that you'd pay $50+ for a cut at a run of the mill salon and not give you the same results.\r \r Adeline is the only stylist I saw at Nirvana and I'm on my search again. \r \r But, I definitely have had good experiences here. more

The manager was very unprofessional when I went back for a redo of a cut and highlight job that didn't look right to me. She had an attitude with me when I explained that I did not find my cut and weave attractive. \r \r The master stylist was very professional although I wouldn't go back to her. Finding the right stylist has A LOT to do with great communication between the client and stylist. Unfortunately, the stylist I loved left Nirvana and the new girls working there just aren't as awesome as the crew that made Nirvana fabulous in the first place.\r \r I would highly recommend the salon, except who wants to pay bunches for quality work only to deal with a salon manager who doesn't appear to appreciate her clients? I should actually give this salon no stars. A stylist talked me into buying a $180 hair dryer telling me that this is the cheapest she has seen it for and without telling me that they don't give refunds but only store credit. In fact, she said that I could return it for any reason within 2 weeks. How am I supposed to purchase $180 worth of shampoo and conditioner? When I got home, I checked online and saw it for $120 on many sites. Though I like my hair cut I won't be going there ever again because the salon has no integrity and any place I choose to give my money to needs integrity. There are numerous other salons in the bay area that uphold their word. more

It seems like I've been coming to Nirvana Salon forever. Laure has been cutting my hair for over 25 years now; I'd never think of going anywhere else! She is the ultimate professional, and the atmosphere in the salon is fantastic. I know that I'll experience a relaxing, attentive, perfect haircut every time. Laure rescued my hair from a botched color job at another salon - this girl is a pro! In addition to leaving Nirvana with an awesome-colored head of hair, I fully enjoyed the aromatherapy treatment/scalp massage! I loveeee nirvana! I've seen a couple stylists there since I started going there (maybe 5/6 years ago), and they ALL have been amazing, but now I go to Shawna. I have short hair, a bob, and she always does an amazing job (because believe me a bob can really be screwed up... it's happened to me at other salons). She always does it perfect; the cut, highlights, everything is great! I also love the atmosphere of the salon, too- the way its decorated, the music, the tea- very cool and edgy, but down-to-earth. Aveda products- particularly the Brilliant products- are GREAT too. Pros: cool atmosphere, aveda products, great stylists! Cons: i like the feel of smaller salons, but I feel that nirvana might be a little too cramped more

Laure is the bomb. Hands down, this is the best salon I've ever been to. All the stylists are professional, creative and extremely customer oriented. You'll never go anywhere else. Pros: service, service, service Cons: I can only go once every six weeks more
