the worst company to deal with 10/26/2010

Our furnace was having problems (not starting all the time) so we called neerings to come (we had a coupon). The tech said the main board needed to be replaced and it would be over $800. The furnace also stopped working once the tech looked at the furnace. The tech recommended replacing the whole furnace. I called a local contractor to come and look. He said a wire was knocked loose and fixed that so the furnace would work start some of the time again and bid to replace the main board for under $200. He also bid to replace the furnace at $2000 less and for a superior ranked brand. I also called whipple and they bid on a new furnace for about $1000 less than neerings. We had the main board replaced by the contractor and almost a year later the original furnace is fine. I talked to a friend who used neerings for a plumbing incident and he had the same horrible experience. Avoid neerings, their techs are incompetent and they are way over priced. more

Awful Service - Deceptive advertising 10/21/2010

The pilot light in our water heater had gone out. After calling around and receiving bids for replacement, I searched the internet and found instructions for replacing the part. more

DON'T BE DECEIVED BY FAKE POSITIVE REVIEWS OF NEERINGS 10/16/2010

Many of these review sites have numerous 5 star reviews of Neerings Plumbing of Salt Lake that are obviously fake. By clicking on the reviewer's name you can see that they post hundreds of gushingly positive reviews of companies all over the U.S. and they don't even live in Utah. Is it possible Neerings Plumbing subscribes to a service that provides these fake positive reviews to offset and cover up the negative ones by real people who have actually used their services? Who knows? My experience with Neerings like so many others is that they used deceptive sales practices and charged an exorbitant price for the services they provided. The fact is that they quoted $1033 to replace an existing gas water heater. This wouldn't have been so bad had they installed a $600 - $700 water heater, but they did not. What we ended up getting was a $330 (retail) water heater for an installation charge of $700 for two hours of work. The deception comes in with their practice of using a ""bundled"" price in both their quote and on their sales receipt that does not disclose the cost of the part(s) along with the cost to install. This keeps the customers in the dark as to how much they are actually paying per hour for the service provided. To Neerings credit they do good work and have experienced technicians, but unless you want to pay 2 to 3 times what other companies charge to do quality work, then my advice is to call someone else. more

Don't be misled by fake positive reviews of Neerings Plumbing 10/15/2010

Checking the so called "reviewers" who give Neerings 5 stars will reveal that the vast majority of them have written hundreds of gushingly positive reviews of businesses all over the country, and that THEY DON'T EVEN LIVE IN UTAH.\r \r Does Neerings subscribe to some type of service to get all these positive reviews to offset the negative comments by real people? Who knows?\r \r My experience is like many of the others. Our water heater pilot light wouldn't stay lit and so I called Neerings. I told the dispatcher we had a Whirlpool water heater 5 years old and asked if the service tech would have whatever part needed to fix it. I was assured he did.\r \r The tech showed up, put an attachment on his shop vac, and vacuumed under the unit. Then he told me that if this didn't work that the pilot assembly would need to be replaced. Of course, he didn't have one, but he said I could order one from Whirlpool. He charged me $55 to run his vacuum for 2 minutes. But hey, Neerings boasts that they don more

Beware Neerings Plumbing's Exorbitant Prices and Deception 10/14/2010

First of all don't be misled by the 16 positive reviews---14 of them are phony. You can tell by clicking on the name of the reviewer. That leaves only 2 positive reviews and 10 very negative reviews by real people who have actually done business with Neerings Plumbing of Salt Lake City, Utah. My experience is like many of the others. Our water heater pilot light wouldn't stay lit and so I called Neerings. I told the dispatcher we had a Whirlpool water heater 5 years old and asked if the service tech would have whatever part needed to fix it. I was assured he did. The tech showed up, put an attachment on his shop vac, and vacuumed under the unit. Then he told me that if this didn't work that the pilot assembly would need to be replaced. Of course, he didn't have one, but he said I could order one from Whirlpool. He charged me $55 to run his vacuum for 2 minutes. But hey, Neerings boasts that they don't charge a cent for a service call. Of course the pilot kept going out and my wife needed to wash and do laundry. I had to go out of town the next morning and so we decided she would call Neerings to install a new water heater we could depend on. The tech quoted her $1033 to install a 40 gallon water heater, and she reluctantly agreed knowing that it was a lot more than we had paid for the Whirlpool and to get it installed. When I got home I saw the new Bradford White water heater and she told me the price. I figured it was ok since Bradford White makes some 40 gallon models in the $750 - 800 range. When I checked the price of the model Neerings installed, it was about $330 including sales tax which means we were charge $750 for a two hour installation of a $330 water heater. I called Mike Dixon at Neerings twice and discussed my concerns that the salesman took advantage of my wife's lack of experience with appliances and that the prices they charged were not fair and reasonable considering the work done. Of course Mike disagreed with all of my arguments and came across like somehow he expected his customers to subsidize his ""high overhead"" by paying these exorbitant prices. On one occasion he refused to furnish me with a receipt breaking down the cost of the water heater and the cost of the installation, like most other service companies do. I feel that if the serviceman had been upfront with my wife and told her that she was getting a $300 water heater with a $700 installation charge, that there is no way she would have agreed to the installation. This ""inclusive"" price quote policy that the company strictly adheres to seems to be deceptive in that it disguises the actual cost of the labor to install. I will never, ever use Neerings Plumbing again and will recommend that others stay away as well. I feel as if Mike Dixon et. al. reached into my pocket and stole the $500 extra the job cost beyond what a fair and reasonable price would have been. more
