My Family Vet almost killed my cat. They told me through several visits - all at full charge - that I just needed to change his food. Then they sold me super expensive food. When I took him to another vet, he had dangerous bacteria in his intestinal tract. He was on antibiotics for 3 weeks. Avoid this vet. more

IDr. Clara Scott has taken care of several of my dogs for many years now. We recently adopted a little Peke who stopped eating and drinking who got very sick one late nite so we rushed her to an emergency hospital who took xrays and gave us prescriptions for her and said she had a viral infection. She appeared better for a few days but by late Friday nite she was really bad again, so we again took her to a different hospital at midnight, they said she had a bacterial infection and was oozing pink slime from her vagina. We left with more prescriptions but by Monday morning she got worse. We took her in the morning to see Dr. Scott, she ran blood tests and immediately determined she needed an emergency hysterectomy. Her white cell count was extremely low and her body temp was very low. She said if she operated immediately she would die. She put her on an IV drip thru the nite and wrapped her in a heating pad to elevate her temp, by morning she felt it was ok to operate. What she found were fallopian tubes the size of polish sausages, which should have been very tiny for her size. Now why didn't the first hospital see that in their xrays?? Two different hospitals did not see her problem. She almost died but Clara knew what the problem was immediately and addressed it.\r I love Dr. Scott, once when we had to put to sleep one of our dogs, Clara said a prayer during the process. On another occasion we had to have another dog put to sleep but on the way to her office our dog pooed on the back seat of our car. Clara sent our a technician to clean up our car. This woman is amazing. I don't know about the other Doctors in her clinic, but Clara is the best ever. more

AWESOME CLINIC 6/1/2013

This clinic is outstanding! Dr. Scott and her team are professional, kind and considerate. All my babies are clients of this clinic. We had to put our “Boy Sarge” own back in February of this year. They had everything ready for us. They gave us time with him and we stayed in the room while to doctor put him down; my husband had him in his arms when he passed. We had to fill out paperwork and pay before the euthanasia, but I was ok with the being this day and time with people no wanting to pay their bill. They handled our dog just as they would in a human hospital in the medical center and the same way a funeral home handles burials of humans. With dignity! We even got a sympathy card the same week. Thank you for your professional conduct and courtesy during our time of grief. \r We also have two other babies in which the team is loving and caring when treating them. Dr.Scott even taught us about their breads and how to potty train our Shih Tzu! She also recognized that the Shih Tzu more

I Do Not Recommend My Family Vet 10/9/2012

I WILL NOT GO BACK TO MY FAMILY VET EVER!!! I took my dog in 2 1/2 weeks ago, I told them that she had loose stool, she was lethargic, and she wasn't eating normally. When I got there, they asked me if she was spayed, I said no, and they immediately assumed that maybe she had some sort of vaginal infection and this was the cause of her problems, even though there were no signs of an infection, and they said she seemed fine, they asked me to check her pee that evening and if her pee seemed abnormal to bring her in for some blood work, and sent me on my way. Her pee that evening was normal, so I did not take her back in for blood work. Well today (2 1/2 weeks later), my dog vomited up a pig/cow hoof that I gave her just a few days before I took her to the vet. I had forgotten that I gave her the pigs hoof, so I did not inform the vet about it. I called the vet freaking out about it, angry that the vet didn't try to do more to find out what was causing my dog's lethargy, they said I shoul more

I called the vet freaking out about it, angry that the vet didn't try to do more to find out what was causing my dog's lethargy, they said I should bring her in for another visit ($) and an xray ($). When I finally spoke to Dr. Scott, she was very angry and defensive and said that I was to blame for them not finding out about her stomach, that I was basically a terrible pet owner (parent as she put it) for not bringing her back in (which she seemed slightly better then before so of course I didn't take her in), and they were at no fault. She also described what I had told them during the first visit and no where in what she read did it say she had loose stool, wasn't eating, and was lethargic. She accused me of not saying things that would have been ""key"" to find out what was wrong. WHAT MORE ELSE DO I NEED TO SAY THEN MY DOG ISN'T EATING, HAS LOOSE STOOL, AND IS LETHARGIC?!?!?! This is ridiculous, and I will not put up with this. The last time I took a dog to a vet, (my last dog) and they assumed something that was incorrect, she ended up dying the next day. So what I learned about this vet is they only want your money, and they DO NOT listen. more

DO NOT RECOMMEND 8/27/2012

I suppose they did a good job at removing my dogs lump but they charged me an extra $150 for something i did not request.\r After talking several useless phone calls i eventually met the business manager at the location who just defended the mistake of her employee and pretty much flat out called me a liar (as i let the girl behind the counter check off the surgery form for me).\r All in all my dog is doing fine and that is what matters but they were completely unapologetic about adding services that i did not request and charging me for it.\r I will not even go into the very long wait time it took on my first visit to get someone to see my dog. (I had to stay one hour into a little room)\r DO NOT RECOMMEND more

Amazing! 2/20/2012

This vet is just amazing. My husband brought a stray home on Friday night and it was clear we needed to get this dog to a vet asap. I looked at reviews on-line and found My Family Vet. I called Saturday morning and they told me to head over there and they would work us in. Dr Scott came in and began to asses our poorly stray. Immediately it was clear that she is incredibly smart, competent and caring. I was taken aback as I had never met a vet that 1. spent so much time with us and 2. explained absolutely everything so thoroughly. They were also very cost conscious and gave me pricing to review before we did anything and she discouraged any type of unnecessary testing and vaccinations until we get him healthy again. I have been to VCA vets before where they push every product imaginable on you and this was an entirely different experience. I will never take my animals anywhere else from here on out and as for Dr Scott, well what a great human being to have in this world! more

THE BEST EVER! 12/1/2011

I have known these people for several years. All the staff, I mean ALL of them are tender, caring people. I drive from the Galleria with my ""son"" and his cousins just so I can count on getting the BEST care. more

Best place ever. 8/16/2011

Before I started working at My family vet 3 1/2 yrs ago, I was a client of 3 yrs. I loved bringing my dog's to see Dr. Scott and Dr. Ashmore so much I just had to work there. Since I have started working here I have to say that this is the best place I've ever worked! We are a very close family and work very close together. We love and respect everyone. I love talking to the clients that come through the door. I have met so many neat people, and animals. I can't imagine taking my pet's to any other place. I'm so proud to be a part of My Family Vet! \r more

Wonderful Place & Wonderful Staff 6/3/2011

Dr. Scott and her staff are incredibly caring and knowledgeable. Even if I call and just want to ask a question, Dr. Scott always calls me back to discuss any issues. They are truly wonderful people who really care about about the physical and mental health of your pet. more

My Family Vet Is a Very Bad Clinic! Don't Go Here! 2/18/2011

I brought my cat here last month for the problems he was having. Dr. Morrissey was his vet. She said my cat had a very high blood count. She also found that he was constipated and may have some other issues. She called me back and said that they had taken care of all of his issues and that he was ready to go home. They said he was much better and that he ate all of the food they gave him. He was all cleaned out and ready to go with his prescription and his recovery food. She also said she gave him a steroid shot which is not on the bill they gave me. When I brought him home he was no better then when I took him in. He ate nothing and was very miserable the entire next day and he was no better the following morning. I wonder if they did anything? I really have my doubts! I called her back and told her of the situation and said that I was going to have him put to sleep so that he wouldn't have to suffer. She had no objections or even wonder what went wrong since she released him with such a clean bill of health. I took him in to be put to sleep the following day. I've had 3 other cats put to sleep in my time. None of which I was expected to pay for their cremation upfront. That is so ""tacky"" and so inconsiderate! That's even sickning! This Dr. Morrissey wasn't even there when I went. They instead put me with this Dr. Ashmore. She couldn't get done with his euthanasia fast enough. She comes in and tells me to leave the room. I told her that I wanted to see my cat through this and wanted to be with him until it was over like I 've done with all my other cats in the past and the long lives they all lived. She looked at me real strange turned around and left and slammed the door behind her. She came back in and while I was getting myself ready for the procedure this Dr. Ashmore started to examine my cat while he was still alive and said out loud that he was still very constipated and said that she felt a tumor. Does this Dr. Morrissey know what she's doing? I wonder? Rest In Peace ""Booty""!! You were the best!! You lived one long and healthy life. I will always love you!! Sorry you had to deal with these morons in the end!! more

Ms 1/13/2011

I totally disagree with the customers who are not satisfied with My Family Vet. I first used them after adopting 2 dogs from YSDR. I took my sick cat in after years of being told his weight loss, vomiting, excessive drinking & urinating were just because he was getting old. When I finally took him to Dr. Scott he had end stage kidney disease, had lost nearly half of his original weight & it was too late to do anything to help him. Dr. Scott recognized his debilitated condition was NOT normal aging. I was shown nothing but expert care & compassion. I even received a sympathy card from the whole staff. I am so impressed I will take all of my pets there from now on. Thank you to all the doctors & staff! more

AWESOME !!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! 11/24/2010

This place is amazing!!! I have been taking my dogs and cats there for many years. This place is the best clinic in Houston. Before I found My Famil Vet I went to several other clinics in the area but I couldn't find one that was caring, compassionate, and had the great doctors and staff that this one has. The girls up front are always happy and very helpful. The technician are always real caring and work hand and hand with the doctors to see that your pet gets the best care and treatment possible. The vets there are great!!! I think there are 4 or 5 of them and I have seen them all and they are all wonderful. Finally, the pricing there is very reasonable. I have had many bad experiences with other clinics, when it came time to pay there was all these hidden charges. Not at My Family Vet the vets tell you how much it is going to cost to treat your pet and that is what you pay and it is always very reasonable. I wouldn' t take my kids any where else but here!!!! more

AWFUL! 10/27/2010

We had a terrible experience the first time we went here and would never go back. The vet talks down to you - the receptionist are rude and care more about each other than your sick pet. We went once and that was enough. My dog had surgery and they didnt even give him pain pills = told me they didnt want him to throw up in their lobby or my car so give it to him when we get home - as my dog was crying out in pain. They have no compassion! Then when I called to tell them my dog was in pain they told me he will get over it give it a few days - not bring him in - or give him higher doses..AWFUL more

Cared for by My Family Vet 9/28/2010

My Family Vet is amazing!! I have used them for 4 years now for my little guys Blitz and Belle. I love Dr. Scott and her entire staff. I can't see how someone could say due to personal reasons she isn't there as much....that's selfish. I have seen Dr. Redden before and she is a very caring and thorough doctor. The extension in the facility has made taking my babies there so much more enjoyable. Keep up the great work My Family Vet team!!!! more

Recommend to try... 3/16/2010

Brought a newly adopted dog here for the free check-up. Service was good & Dr. seemed good, but ended up going back to previous vet where we had more history. If you are looking for a good vet in the Spring area, this is worth trying. more

Saved my dog's life!! 1/5/2010

I found a medium sized dog at a gas station on my way out of town in September 2006. I picked her up and soon realized she was extremely timid, but my family became very attached to her as soon as she came home with me. I had her for just over a year when suddenly (within 2 days) she became very ill. I took her to My Family Vet and Dr. Scott immediately told me that there was something very wrong with her and that we needed to run bloodwork. Turns out she was in complete kidney failure and had many other vague symptoms. Dr. Scott and Dr. Ashmore teamed up and figured out very quickly that my dog had Addison’s disease (a condition with her adrenal glands). They treated me and my dog with such compassion and care. They even stayed at the clinic until 8:00pm one night running a 2 hour blood test to confirm the diagnosis. They saved her life during that critical issue, tended to all of her changing needs and still continue to see her monthly to administer her necessary medications. Although she is still a very shy, timid dog, the vets at My Family Vet treat her like their own pet. She is a great dog and I’m so appreciative that they saved her and that she’s still a huge part of our family. I love this clinic, the whole staff and will always trust them to take care of all my furry kids. Pros: Caring, attentive, & wonderful staff Cons: Busy, but it's because they are great vets! more

Scott Clara M Dvm - My Family Vet is undoubtedly the BEST! 12/3/2009

All of the doctors here are wonderful!!! I mean it!! both of my dogs have different degenerative conditions that we had no idea about. I had been to 4 other vets who could not figure out what was wrong with them. I went there one day with my dog Holly, who had been very lethargic, vomitting blood and having severe seizures. When I walked in the front door, I was greeted by cheerful receptionists asking how they could help me. When the technician came into the room, I was nervous because Holly can get upset when she is around strangers. But the technician came over and sat down on the floor next to Holly and started talking to her, petting her and gently checked Holly's gum color ( I guess thats how they check to see if she was dehydrated or anemic). Without missing a beat in petting Holly, the tech started asking questions and getting a good history of what was going on with my doggie. I also mentioned that I love Holly and she is basically my child, but I had just been laid off and mo more

Caring for your pet like family!

Owner Message
  •  My Family Vet sprang from Dr. Scott’s vision of a veterinary practice that encompassed excellent patient care with a compassionate and personable experience. Dr. Scott made her vision a reality when she started practicing out of the front room of her own home. Word quickly spread that she was an amazing veterinarian and her practice began to grow. It was time she moved out of her house and into her own space. Dr. Scott moved into a 600 square foot area and hired her first team members creating My Family Vet.

As she continued to grow, she was able to open her arms to local rescue groups in need, helping those pets get healthy and find their forever homes. It did not take long to realize that My Family Vet needed even more space to accommodate our ever growing client family. In 2006 Clyde and Charlcy Theiss were kind enough to sell their ranch home on Kuykendahl to Dr. Scott knowing it was “going to the dogs!” There were many spiritual confirmations along the way that opened doors for this location and made My Family Vet what it is today. With your help we have hired more staff and doctors to accommodate the influx of patients. We are now able to do more surgeries, see more clients/patients in a timely manner with our 7 exam rooms, and help more of our sick patients with our spacious treatment area. We are constantly educating ourselves on new medications, techniques, and treatments to keep up with the ever changing practices of veterinary medicine. From our humble beginnings of 50 clients to now almost 15,000 My Family Vet continues to heal animals through excellent veterinary medicine, client education and compassionate care.

Please feel free to come by and visit our clinic. Our staff is always ready to meet your furry family members. And don’t forget to stop and smell the roses in our beautiful prayer garden.
