Mudd's Restaurant

I shouldn't be writing this review while I am still in recovery. I ordered the Lobster cocktail as an appetizer. My bad for not stopping when it wasn't cold and smelled a little fishy. Fortunately, my wife listened to my advice and she is doing fine. My Saturday is being chalked up as a lost day to the porcelain throne. Our entree's were just OK and that's being generous. The vegetable entree for $19 would have been $10 on any other menu given the size and lack of variety or taste. The desserts the staff were raving about were dry and overpriced. The chocolate velvet cake tasted old and the pear dessert was about the same and both crumbly. I keep telling myself I will give Mudd's one more try, but not this time. I dine at Mudd?s several times a year. The food and atmosphere are almost always a treat. The menu includes a variety of salads, appetizers and entrees that make it a good spot for large or small gatherings. Dishes are presented thoughtfully with main course and sides selected to give the palate a satisfying taste experience. Tucked away in a quiet spot off a main traffic artery, sheltered by trees, and an adjoining garden, Mudd?s gives me a feeling of being away from the city at the edge of a forest. My wife and I enjoy strolling the gardens before and after dinner. Our last meal there was just the 2 of us. We shared a soft crab appetizer, salmon and a pork roast all done to perfection. Our waitress was delightful and very well informed. We always need help with the wine selection. Everything was brought to the table just as we were ready for it. That hasn?t always been our experience at Mudd?s, but I understand they?ve been focusing on service improvements and some changes in the kitchen are paying off. I highly recommend a visit to see for yourself. more

I like the concept of this restaurant, but the execution...\r As the title suggests, 3 of 14 guests left unhappy.\r I complained to the owner because of the ""B"" service (generous) and because my steak and my sister's fish were charred. Those who ordered wine had a few refills before our water glasses received any attention.\r The owner in many more words called me a liar and blamed me for ordering my steak well done.\r I can go on and on, my vegetables were over seasoned, there was a long line for the rest room, while waiting, I observed some unsavory activity in the kitchen. The owner confirmed my observation that faces were touched immediately prior to handling plates of food, but suggested I was insensitive to the workers who have to work in a hot kitchen (Ventilation?). He also insisted that the rest of the party was thrilled; 79% satisfaction guaranteed! Pros: Ambience Cons: Everything Else more

I have been to Mudd's many times and the food has always been excellent and the service has been good. This visit the food and service was not what I remember. Our appetizers were fantastic, but the steak was served over-cooked and the fish was dry. One of the servers knocked over our bottle of red wine and spilled some of it on my daughter's food. To catch the bottle, he stuck his finger in the neck of the bottle. I was expecting them to replace both the bottle of wine and my daughter's food. Instead, they reheated my daughter's food and gave us a glass of a different red wine to cover for what was spilled. I wasn't impressed at all. Overall, service was very slow and our main courses arrived in two groups about 10 minutes apart. I don't think we'll be going back to Mudd's any time soon. Pros: Ambience is great. The setting for Mudd's is wonderful as always. The new menu required explanation from the waitress. With the delightful garden associated with the restaurant it would have been lovely to have more vegetables on the menu - specifically a vegetable plate.\r \r The ravoli was sent back as the dough was undercooked and heavy. Further cooking eliminated the crunch but the dough was stil thick and tasted of flour.\r \r The crab cakes while generous in size where not particularly tasty. \r \r The pea soup was good and the tendrils of peas a delicious and visual treat.\r \r The chocolate cake for desert was disappointing. It was dry and tough. The carmel sauce seemed nonexistent. \r \r Overall we would not go back. Too bad as the setting is beautiful and they have the makings of a really fine restaurant. I recently had dinner at Mudds for the first time in a while, and they have a fantastic new menu! It's a little different from the way it used to be - a slower paced dinner, but the food was wonderful! Definitely a spot for a romantic dinner or something special. I'll be back again soon! Not so sure I'd bring young kids though - at least not for dinner. Pros: Excellent food, nice atmosphere, beautiful setting Cons: A touch on the slow side, but worth the wait more

I love mudds!!! \r I just want to say thank you for helping me to get my feet on the ground, head out of the clouds, and my artwork seen by all who come to Mudds. Thank you for encouraging me to do something with my tallent and giving me a place to start. We had a nice dinner there. My friend and I went to check it out. The waiter was friendly and we enjoyed our meal. We had a nice few of their flower garden in the back. Other than that though, it wasn't a particularly special place so I doubt I will be going back again soon. more
