DID THEY MENTION U PAY NEARLY $400.00 FOR A URINE DRUG SCREE 9/26/2011

I've been going to Mr. chavin's clinic for a little over 2 months and everything was going well untill today! I am going because I am in the Suboxone program(which is a miricle if your trying to kick the habit). When you are there for your first visit you get forms to fill out just like everyother Phsyician. No where in any of the forms that I filled out and signed my name to ever said n/e thing about an extra charge of $400.00 for them to take a urine sample. Oh I forgot to mention that i have no insurence. So I'm paying $230.00 for my script and $150.00 for every visit, and now this $1200.00 BILL I JUST GOT.\r Now, I can go and buy my own 12 point urine sample kit for no more than $70.00. Who in there right mind is going to pay $400.00 for a drug screen. I have two kids I am supporting by myself and currently doing odd jobs just to stay ahead. I love the Suboxone program because it works, but this bill is most likely the nail in the coffin for me and my treatment at mr. Chavins office. more

Excellent care with Dr. Chavin at Morristown Pain Consultant 3/21/2011

I was very impressed with Morristown Pain Consultants after having severe back pain for many years. Dr. Michael Chavin was very detailed in his work. I had a full workup and felt comfortable from the start. A lot of time was spent on the initial and subsequent visits. Dr. Chavin's workup found that I had osteoporosis and hep c which was not found out by my primary doctor. The injections were very helpful and I appreciate the fact that I am on lower doses of pain medications. I have recommended you to family and friends. I am very glad my friend told me about you Dr. Chavin. Thanks to Craig and the rest of the staff! more

Unprofessionalism At Its Finest 3/9/2011

I really don't know where to begin, but I have had a multitude of surgeries on my back and after ""adhering"" to their programs, medication counts and urine tox screens, thus passing them, I still have been treated so terrible. I have traveled the world and have never experienced a degree of unprofessionalism nearly to the degree of this place. I have had nothing but terrible reactions to the injections, which left me so sick that I was bedridden and too weak to get up my stairs. I was not allowed to have an appontment to discuss this with Dr. Chavin, unless I was to come in for my 3rd and last injection. Hello! I am ill from what you gave to me, and you want me to have more without evaluating me first, to discuss my conditions and concerns??!! Rather unethical, don't you think? All this place seems to care about doing is insulting you, not listening to what you have to say and racking up insurance bills. The six hour wait on every appointment is absurd as well, especially when you are having to bring someone to wait with you, for injections. I have never seen such a vulgar display of arrogance and disconcernment where other people's feelings, time and health is at stake. In addition, this office is VERY unsanitary. more

Top Doc in Morristown for Pain! 1/6/2011

I wish to thank this Doc for the excellent job he did on me. Thank you for not discharging me when I overused my narcotics. You understood that my pain is mind bending! Both I and my wife appreciate the implanted pain pump my medtronics. This pump has been a miracle for me The pump has allowed me to have excellent pain relief with essentially no oral medications. I appreciate your attention to detail and all the time spent on me. I am a new man. I have recommended you to several people and would recommend you to anyone who has severe pain and has been to other docs without relief. Again muchos gracious! more

great relief and thank you for listening to me! 12/15/2010

I read the last entry on 12-5-10 and could not disagree more!. I have worked in the health care field as a nurse assistant and have worked with many pain patients. There is a terrible problem with narcotic drug abuse in east Tennessee and the problem is getting progressively worse. I have been a patient of Dr. Chavin's for over three years and have had excellent care by Dr. Chavin and his staff. Dr. Chavin has had done injections on my several times. I undergo a series of Cervical and Lumbar injections about once per year. At first I was hesitant, but I am now a firm believer in them. When I get a series of three of them over about six weeks, I get about 8 or 9 months of excellent relief . And by a year, I am requesting them again because of how much they help. I have talked with Dr. Chavin about this and he explained to me that if the first series provided good pain relief than he and the patient can discuss this again in 6 to 8 months. If they don't provide adequate relief than they never need to be done again and the patient can still remain in the clinic. Dr. Chavin explained that because of the very severe problem with drug abuse including diversion (selling the drugs) and addiction, that if a new patient has pathology that could benefit from an injection then Dr. Chavin expects the patient to be willing to undergo these injections with goal of reducing or eliminating the need for narcotic medications, increasing range of motion, increasing activity of daily living and decreasing pain levels. In other words, many doctors can prescribe pain medications but few have the expertise that Dr. Chavin has in doing injections. Dr. Chavin does injections under live x-ray for accuracy and told me he has done them since 1987 as a doctor. I have spoken with patients in the waiting room who have had procedures done by Dr. Chavin including implantable pain pumps, spinal cord simulators and those who have used the accuspinal spinal decompression table (like a Vax-D) and have had great results. Certainly not all patients respond to injections or any other procedures from Dr. Chavin or any Doctor for that matter. Dr. Chavin and his staff offer multiple approaches to pain management. If like the lady of 12-5-10 you have ""mild pain on low dose pain meds"" you should not go to Morristown Pain Consultants. Morristown Pain Consultants and Dr. Chavin have the expertise, experience, and ability to handle and treat severe pain problems. Mild pain should be treated by a family doctor or a ""pill mill"" that only offers narcotics. Dr. Chavin explained that if a patient has significant pain and only wants pain medications, then given the amount of diversion and drug addiction he is not able to treat them. Dr. Chavin believes that patient's with real and significant pain are open and anxious to try different therapies for relief of their pain. Dr. Chavin told me that long narcotics usage in patients can very negative effects and that he only wants to work with patients that are motivated to get better and hopefully get on lower doses of narcotic and prescription drugs. I admire Dr. Chavin for his passion to provide excellent and innovative care to his patients. If you have severe pain and need help and have been to other Doctors that have not provided you with the relief that you need and deserve than I could not recommend Dr. Chavin and Morristown Pain Consultants more. From personal experience I can guarantee that Dr. Chavin and his staff will spend a lot of time working you up, ordering appropriate labs, scans, MRI's and whatever else you need to accurately diagnose and treat your unique pain problem. Kudos to Morristown Pain Consultants and Dr. Chavin! more

My back pain is much better! 11/7/2010

I had been to several other doctors in Morristown, Johnson City and Greenville. I had been discharged for misuse of medications. I am lucky that Dr. M Chavin allowed me to come to his clinic.\r \r When I first came to the clinic he read me the riot act. I deserved it and it helped straighen me out.\r \r The first visit they spent about 70 minutes with me face to face. They really listened to me. After a complete work-up including bone scan, xrays, mri, dexa scan, and labs they figured out what was really wrong with me. \r \r They were the first clinic to find out that mly testosterone was low and stated treating me. They were the only pain clinic that checked my liver function and found out that I had Hep C and got me treatement for this.\r \r Dr. Chavin gave me injections which were helpfull and after this I underwent a spinal cord stimulator trial was relieved my pain of 9 years about 75%. After the implant I life is very much better and I have weaned off of almost all my narcotics. Thank G-d!\r \r Thank you Dr M Chavin and Staff (Craig) for your help. I have recommended you to several friends and they are happy at your clinic. more

If you have pain he can help 11/4/2010

Best Pain MD in the area! I have been reading reviews in the Morristown area for some time and after reading some of the reviews of Dr. Chavin I joined so that I could comment. I have been with Dr. Chavin since early 2002. he has been in the same location for over 10 years. He and his staff have done a tremendous job with my pain and I have referred many patients to Dr. Chavin who have been very satisfied. My life is so much better for having gone to Dr. Chavin's clinic. Dr. Chavin is very aggressive fighting the flood of drug addiction and diversion in east Tennessee. The problem is out of control. If you misuse your meds you will be thrown out of the clinic, period! I know people who have been going to Florida on the ""oxycontin express"" to get large quantities of Roxicodone and Xanax to sell in the east Tennessee area. When they went to Dr. Chavin they were thrown out on their ears. I spoke with several of them who I know and they complained how easy it was to just show up in a Florida clinic and pay your $200 and get what ever you wanted, no questions asked. They stated how ""rude"" Dr. Chavin was. (what did they expect?) They were pissed off because Dr. Chavin saw right through them and they were rejected and discharged. For your information - one prescription of Roxicodone 30 mg given five per day has a street valve of $4,500 per month and and $54,000 per year. This is a prescription of 150 per month. Bearden Heathcare gives out 200 to 400 per month routinely! At $30 dollars per pill street valve and selling 5 per day that is $150 per day x 30 days = $4,500/month. People that are selling these drugs are vicious and evil. Even if they take half and sell half they can easily make over two thousand dollars a month. Usually the drug sellers are addicted so even if they are selling some of their pills, if they also take the Roxicodone than their UDS shows the drug in it and it is difficult to detect that they are selling some of their pills. Bottom line, if you have real severe pain and need expert help, Dr. Chavin can help. However, if you are a drug abuser or drug seller than Bearden Health was designed especially for you. more

Did a great job and spent a lot time! 11/4/2010

I read the last entry on Oct 29, 2010 and could not disagree more. I have been with Dr. Chavin for over three years and he is an excellent pain doctor. He spent over two hours on the first visit and ordered tests including MRI, Dexa scan, full labs and X-rays. No other Pain Doc had ever done a thorough work up. He diagnosed my pain and did injections which did help. Recently he placed a St. Jude Spinal Cord Stimulator which really has lessened my pain and I have decreased my medications by over 70%!, Thanks. I went to Bearden Heathcare and was massively overdosed and almost died prior to coming to Dr. Chavin. They were not rude there but what a joke, they kept raising the dose of my narcotics until I could barely think. When I went to Dr. Chavin he was very stern and concerned about the massive amounts of narcotics that I was on. The truth was that even though I had pain I was addicted. It was due to Dr. Chavin that I was able to treat my addiction and get control of pain. Dr. Chavin is real tough, but to deal with the drug addiction and diversion problem in Morristown and the surrounding area this is how it needs to be. I have found Dr. Chavin to be an excellent doctor over three years. He has been in the same location for 11 years and has many hundreds of happy patients. When I am in the waiting room on my visits I see new patients trying to get into the clinic who are there only to get narcotics to sell or abuse (some of these people I know personally). These scum ruin it for everyone and these are the ones that complain on line. more

WORST Medical facitlity experience of my life 10/6/2010

This medical facility was the absolute worse experience in my entire fifty plus years bar none. One of the gatekeepers was both rude and prone to \r exaggeration. When I could not perform an urine analysis when asked, that particular staff member was both considerate and understanding, allowing me to drink \r some water whilst mentioning that it happened frequently and that there was plenty of time to complete it later. I requested my prescribed medication at least three \r times from two different people and was denied all three times. The extreme pain kept my mind from focusing during a medical history interview and a self described \r office manager took over. She showered me with accusations and continuously raised her voice berating me like an errant child. At one point literally hollering at me, \r ""This area is the worst in the nation for drug addicts! If you don't believe me read the paper!"" When she stormed out of the exam room telling another member, \r ""Tell him he is free to GO!"", I left the empty room in my wheelchair and exited the building. Getting that wheelchair into the back of a pickup by myself is very difficult. \r Apparently my crippled self was not moving fast enough for them because a Morristown police officer arrived saying, amongst other things, that 'they don't want you \r on the property'.\r That police officer was the friendliest most compassionate individual I had seen all day. I did have X-rays, nerve studies, and doctor's reports that they \r refused to review. Regardless of how many junkies, dope fiends, and malingering frauds that facility encounters, it does NOT give them the right to berate and \r humiliate a veteran that is crippled and saddled with a legitimate need for pain medication. \r more

Compationate?! My Foot! 10/4/2010

I had surgery on 10/04/2010 and Dr. Chavin let me down in every way imaginable!\r I called his office as I was told to do to get a medication increase and was treated like sh*t! I was then told I could take 1 extra pain pill. I am cut from Breastbone to Bellybutton and this man tells me to take 1 extra mild pain pill? I have been crying in pain all day and to these people it did not matter!\r 2 1/2 months ago I was informed I would get injections in my back or Dr. Chavin would not see me... When I told him I had a 16 yr old daughter that was paralized, I was told to ""let her fend for herself"" because she was only causing me more back pain! I did the injections and on the 3rd visit I was told to take a Morphine tablet and a 2mg Zanex by the nurse (this was noted in my chart) and I was passed out in his office! He never called an ambulance or gave me a nurse to watch over me. Just told my mother to keep an eye on me and when I fell out of the chair onto my neck, they came in, did my visit, and sent me home! I SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE HOSPITAL! Thank God my mother was there, because I don't remember any of the visit!\r They even took me back and did my shots while I was passed out!\r He may have helped some people, but he almost killed me! He thinks he is God! And ladies...Do not dress up, he's a pervert! Likes to ""Check out"" the goodies.\r Dr. Michael Chavin, one day you will get yours and I hope like hell you don't get a Dr as arrogant as you are! NOBODY DESERVES THE TREATMENT YOU DISH OUT! more

Doing patients Dirty 11/19/2009

I was not a patient there, but I do know people that were, and I think that this so called pain clinic is a crock of S____. Patients that needed their meds just to get through the day were discharged when the new nurse practitioners were hired in. With a pain clinic dischared it's hard to find another doctor that will treat you for your cronic pain. After seeing what my husband went through and still going through with is pain I would NOT recommend anybody to take their pets or even your enimies pets to this sorry, low down, disheartful, and none caring place!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: not alot of pros going on here Cons: cons-abreviation for convicts - CROOKS more

i fell i was done wrong 11/19/2009

i was his patient for 9 years he called me his vonwillabran patient he was taking care of my pain then he hired all new nurse practioners and i didnt see him i saw one of them for my medication refills a couple of months after i started seeing them they discharged me because of a drug screen said they wasnt enough of one of my meds and i know better i had taken them for 9 years and always was good and the med she told me was low they had quit giving it to me about 6 months earlier i know 7 more people that got dicharged from the same batch of test i tried to get them to let me retake the test but they hung up on me and said after you had been discharged they dint want to talk to you i was supose to have got a copy of the drug test with the discharge letter but i didnt now im left out here hurting with cronic back and leg pain because once you have been discharged from a pain clicic doctors dont want to see you i believe if i could have spoken to dr chavin that i would have not been discharged but they wouldnt let me Pros: he had my pain under control Cons: i feel they was a mistake on my drug screen more
