Classy, delicious, overall great experience 6/25/2009

My first experience at Monty's was truley memerable. From the hostess ( beautiful young lady) to the service, which was outstanding, attentive, and professional to our food which was mouth watering ( that special filet was fabulous). I have already been back and will continue to aware freinds and family of my dining experience. I left wanting of nothing and very satisfied. I have dined at many fine restaurants and this is one of my favorites. \r thank you\r \r scottw. Pros: great location, perfect steak house decor more

Valet dirty tricks 5/28/2009

I find it extremely distasteful that the valet attendents use the [street] parking spots in front of the restaraunt, forcing patrons to park further away, or pay the valet ""service charge"" of $5.00. This is not an acceptable practice. \r \r Patrons should not be allowed to wear baseball caps while dining at a ""so-called"" fine dining restaraunt. Pros: Very good prime rib Cons: Noisy environment, dress code issues. more

Ok Food- Atrocious Service 11/17/2008

I went here one evening with my husband really hoping to like it. The food was alright although the server literally disappeared and never came back when we were in need of the check. We waited about 40 minutes and were like, ""Where on earth did she go??"" I was stressed at that point and was getting a terrible headache and just wanted to leave. My husband had to leave our table and go looking for someone to go find her. A crummy server can send the whole experience down the tubes. I guess the manager wouldn't have liked it if we just walked out. Here's a note to the manager: The server's job is done when the people have paid and are on the way out. Then he/she can go have a smoke break, not before. more

Outstanding!!!! 6/13/2008

This was our first ever visit. Before leaving we read some of the reviews (which weren't too good) and we were a little apprenhensive. It was much ado about nothing and I'm glad to say it was a wonderful evening. \r \r Our server, Summerlyn, was super. She was very attentive and interested in taking good care of us. If you dine here, ask for her.\r \r The butternut squash soup appetizer was excellent. The chateaubriand (for two) was cooked to perfection and delicious! When you factored in the side dishes that come with the chateaubriand (sauteed spinach, mushroom caps and ""special"" potatoes), it was less expensive than ordering a filet and the usual side dishes.\r \r Mike, the owner, dropped by to visit and discovered it was our anniversary (26 years!). He was very kind to send us a complimentary bread pudding dessert. It is their signature dessert and it really was the best bread pudding I've had in years...and I'm an expert on bread pudding! I order the bread pudding at every restaurant we visit, if it's on the menu.\r \r The dining experience was OUTSTANDING! We would, and will, go again! I can't imagine having a bad time here. Pros: Service and food. Cons: None. more

Nothing to write home about. 5/14/2008

I'm so very upset with my experience at Monty's\r \r The night started out promising. We knew there was a piano bar, so we showed up an hour early for our reservations, thinking we'd enjoy a nice drink at the bar. But to our surprise they were able to seat us when we were ready. GREAT\r \r I started with the Oysters and hated it. My Husband had the shrimp cocktail and it was ok. For the main course I ordered the Bone-In Fillet Mignon, which was a spacial for the evening. Jack ordered the overpriced Porterhouse.\r The service was slow, it took over an hour to get our main dish. I always ask for my steak Medium-rare. What I got was rare. I was not happy. I showed the waiter my steak.. he tried to explain it was because I was close to the bone. My first thought was, you never argue with the customer and just take it back to the kitchen. While, I tried to find a better cooked part of my steak, Jack sat silently eating his Porterhouse. (Which usually means it's nothing to write home about.) I tried a bite and was not impressed.\r At this point, I was all by happy to stop eating my steak. I made sure to turn the steak upright so the next time our waiter came to ask us how we were he'd see it. And sure enough, he did and exclaimed "" wow, that is really rare"" Well, no duh.. that's what I had tried to tell him 20 minutes ago when I was still interested in the steak. He offered to take it back and have it cooked some more... I flatly told him I was over it and didn't want it. He tried to get back into my good graces by offering me a free desert.. I declined. I was ready to go.\r The biggest kicker was when the bill came. Jack's ""all-right"" porterhouse cost us 65 dollars. Twice the price of my steak. That topped off the night, but us agreeing never go come back.\r \r So all in all.. neither of our steaks were great.. or even worth mention to that matter. Next time, we'll go to Saddle Peak Lodge. Cons: waiter did'nt care more

older crowd, mediocre over-priced food 4/24/2008

I went here with a few friends to have drinks and appetizers, listen to some music and just relax in the lounge. We found out that unless you have your AARP card and your platinum AmEx, this might not be the place for you. We're all in our mid 30's and with the exception of maybe 4 or 5 others we were by far the youngest people there. The food was ok but very expensive. I'm used to going to nice restaurants and don't mind paying the prices but $12 for a martini and a $15 shrimp cocktail with 4 shrimp is a bit much. We each had a couple drinks and shared some appetizers and our bill was over $200. We ordered some calamari and it was greasy and tough. I've heard the steaks are good but I won't go back to find out. more

Good food-Bad service 4/24/2008

I was somewhat impressed with the food but less than impressed with the service. We called a couple hours ahead for a reservation but when we arrived they had no record of it. An older gentleman who said he was the manager (and who I am sure is the same person I spoke to on the phone) spent more time trying to blame his co-worker than he did trying to seat us. The food was good although over priced. I had the chicken parmesan and it was enough for 4 people. My husband had the prime rib (Diamond Jim Brady) and that was very very good. We had the oysters as an appetizer and they were fresh and plump. The service was very slow and the server was not real friendly. But they do have good food. Pros: we were pleased with everything we ordered Cons: expensive, rude servers and management more

Spend your entire evening here! 4/22/2008

This place, although expensive, has something for everyone. A great bar and lounge, a very generous happy hour, a menu of steaks, seafood, pasta, great salads and delicious desserts. They also have plasma TV's throughout the bar area so you can catch a sporting event while relaxing with a glass of wine from their extensive wine list (if the one you want is available!). Later in the evening the TV's go off and the live music begins. You really can spend an entire evening here. I used to go to the Westwood Monty's years ago and always enjoyed it. A few nights ago my boyfriend and I decided to pop in for a drink and being the Laker fans that we are, we were happy to find the game playing in the lounge. We watched the game, had a wonderful dinner and then stayed for the entertainment. The food was top notch! After sharing the bacon wrapped shrimp and a caesar salad we opted to split an entree. We had the New York Strip and it was very tender and flavorful. The only reason I didn't rate this place with 5 stars is that the service was sloooow. Our waitress seemed to be new and was unaware that they were out of the first 2 bottles of wine that we ordered. We are not ones to complain but thought the manager should know that they either need to order those wines or take them off the menu. When the manager came to our table, we were a little surprised that she was a young girl who didn't know any more than our waitress. Other than the less than average service, I would say it was a perfect evening. Pros: Food was great Cons: Service was very very slow more

Great food, bar and music 4/21/2008

This place is a bit pricey but the food is very good. My friends and I were so impressed with the happy hour that we've gone back several times in the last few months. They have a nice bar and cocktail lounge where the waiters serve you from large trays of complimentary appetizers. We usually stay for dinner since the steaks are out of this world! The portions are big so we order our own entree (I like their prime rib) and then a few side dishes for the table to share. The creamed spinach and the mashed potatoes are excellent. The baked potatoes are HUGE! On the weekends we like the ambience of the bar/cocktail lounge where they have live music. One of the things I like about the cocktail lounge after dinner is that it's not loud annoying music but it's not elevator music either. This place is mostly an older crowd unless it's a pretty girl on the arm of a sports celebrity or actor! It is L.A. after all! Kind of fun to 'people watch' here. You never know who you might see! I would reccommend this place for the food and the entertainment. more

just ok, too pricey 4/13/2008

The steak was ok. But for the money I would have enjoyed a friendlier atmosphere. It was kind of cold and the server didn't know the menu. The wine list was good but......every bottle we tried to order they were out of. Cons: waste of money more

Not Friendly! 4/6/2008

Party of 12. Runners who didn't speak English served the food, had no idea who had ordered which salad or main dish belonged to who. My 15-year-old son ordered simple pasta with Marinara, but the sauce was terrible - sour and flat at the same time. Waiter didn't offer a replacement or took it off our bill. 3 steaks were under- or over-done. We had to send them all back, and then got different cuts of meat as replacements. Also, they ran out of Crab legs. On a Wedneday. I thought most restaurants had their seafood delivered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A 18% gratuity was automatically added to our bill - I understand why, but it should be 15% and allow me to add more for good service. ""Manager"" was a 20-something hostess. I had to request that the charge for the bad pasta removed. more

Very Disappointed 3/29/2008

having been to Monty's before, i was disappointed to realize it wasn't the Monty's i remembered. the wait staff was inattentive, it was like they didn't want to be there. it took 25 min to place our drink order and when our food arrived 45 minutes later it was over cooked and salty. i remember choice cuts of beef not something i would expect at Denny's. very disappointed... more

Don't waste your money. 3/29/2008

Ok, so we've given this place it's last chance. (3 althogether) We've never gotten the right food to the table as ordered. The food was cold and lacked any sort of creative anything. The wait staff was so rude the last time we were there that my boyfriend had to hold me back when the waiter looked at our fair tip and glared at us. There are too many good steak houses in this town to waste good money on this one. There's nothing good I can say about this place other than let a better one take it's place. Pros: the place was empty more

Worst Steak House in the world! 3/29/2008

Apparently the age requirement at this place is 50 and up.\r \r Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after I'd been seated at a table in the bar area. I was glad I was with a friend, so I wasn't the only 20-something there. I had a martini, it was not cheap but I have yet to find a place around here that'll sell one for less than $11. The cool thing about Monty's? Free appetizers in the bar. Tiny hamburgers, mozzarella sticks, pizza, shrimp cocktail, the list goes on. If I had known about the nonstop free food, I wouldn't have bothered ordering dinner, because good lord! When I say they have big portions, I mean enough to feed an entire family. The steak my friend ordered was bigger than my head. My chicken parm was even bigger than the steak. I wondered if they had brought me the entire chicken. I guess if you're paying $35 for the meal, they really want to do you up right. I'm not really big on leftovers though, so sadly I left most of my meal at the table. It was ok, but I think that they should consider selling half sizes like some restaurants do. Or maybe even quarter sizes. more

OVERPRICED!!!! 3/28/2008

I had been to Monty's back in the day I would say arond the 80's it was great alot of fun great service great drinks and a good band. Now I just recently went this past weekend for a friends birthday party their was 21 of us hate to say it but waiter didn't know wether he was coming or going he took forever bringing our wine as well drinks, I order an appetizer which was shrimp wrap with bacon it was over cooked and all I could taste is the salt, for dinner I ordered filet mignon with sauteed spinich and mash potatoes the only thing good on my plate was the mash potatoes the rest tasted like a bowl of salt it was horrible. Now I know there is alot of older people ages ranging 50 and up and I know they tend to loose taste in there taste buds but come on mine are still working I don't want to taste salt I want to taste my food. But I will say they did have a great band playing there. So for me it is a shame that Monty's has really gone down especially when your paying that kind of price because they are not cheap dinners nor are there drinks. more

WHAT A SHAME!!!! 3/28/2008

This Classic over priced restaurant used to be one of the best places to eat in the valley. The last time I was there the place seemed DIRTY and RUN DOWN. The Wine list was good if they had the wines on the list. They were out of the first 4 bottles we ordered,we resorted to a glass out of frustration. The waiter was so frazzled he did not bring are wine until half way through are meal. Monty's is not what it used to be. Its a shame. more

Bussiness Diner Disaster 3/27/2008

Went there for my cousin's B-Day this past weekend. First impression, the decor was fabulous and looked every part of a steakhouse that it should. Unfortunately that was the best part of my experience. I was the only person under forty with a few sprinkles of people aged 40 to 50, with the remaining demographic easily 60 and over, way over. Have you ever gone to clubs during your 20's and early thirties and the majority of the clientele was within your age group, except for that one guy that looked like your dad and kinda freaked some people out. Well that's how I felt, I was that guy except the reverse was true. I felt like I walked into a retirement center and would probably get carded for my AARP membership or Medi-Care card. Which leads me to the food, overpriced meats and salty side dishes. Ordered the Prime Rib, Diamond Jim Brady cut, medium rare. The meat was good but not at those prices, I could do equal or better with Whole Foods aged rib eye cuts at home. And the sides, all were over salted, the creamed corn, spinach and mashed potatoes. I have a feeling that the chef probably was seasoning everything for the geriatric diminished taste buds, which is ironic because it didn't help my pressure when I saw the bill. Which leaves the service which was average at best a few times to start the evening, but scarce during the end of the evening. I had to leave early so I asked the waiter to prepare my share of the bill, well I should have looked more closely (that was another thing, it was very dimly lighted) because when I got home I was charged for mushrooms and a chopped salad that I never ordered (BTW, everyone was paying for their own meal, except for my cousin's portion which was handled by his sister). So there you have it, Monty's you owe me a salad and a side dish, just don't salt it when its time to settle. - 0 stars, one for the dcor and .5 for the meat, I'm rounding it up. Cons: Server did not know the menu. more

Great food and service 11/1/2006

Have been eating at the different Monty's Steakhouse resturants for years never have been disapointed ever. It's a shame that they closed the one in West Wood Village a few years back.\r I miss it Fine Dinning with a view upon the 23'rd floor and it was a very nice view.\r \r Food at monty's has always been excellent. I usually order Shrimp cocktail, the shrimp wrapped in bacon and the trio plate with steak, shrimp and lobster tail. \r \r Both Monty's resturant I highly recomend. Pros: Great food and service always more

dirty! 9/6/2006

This place is dirty. We commented when we sat down that the booths were dirty but that was nothing. A gross little furry animal that rhymes with ""bat"", ran across the floor right next to our table while we where there. We wanted to leave, they made us pay for our food that was just coming out when this happened, we had lost our appetite when we saw that and had not even eaten the food. The waitress was nice but the hostess/manager was rude and unapologetic. Cons: d-i-r-t-y more

Eh...Not that great 12/27/2005

Monty's is a fine place to hang out and drink typical standard American sewer beer. The numerous plasma TVs on multiple walls do make it a nice place to watch a game. But if you want quality drinks or food this is not the place. The apple martini my wife ordered was literally thrown together and was unsurprisingly horrid. The glass of champagne I ordered was awful. I waited 30 minutes for my table (yah for Bowl season) even though I called a 1/2 hr prior. The filet I ordered was substandard compared to what I could purchase at any grocery store. The first bottle of wine I ordered had gone bad although they did replace it with no questions. On the plus side, their wine list is decent and they have Riedel wine glasses. However, this is not a place I would recommend to anyone. Pros: Plasma TVs, Wine list, Wine glasses Cons: Food quality, Long wait, Noisy more
