Good Spot in the Cut of BK 6/6/2010

I saw this eatery on a cooking TV show hosted by G.Garvin about 2 years ago. I was excited by one of the dishes he featured in the show. A rice dish with LARGE Shrimp & black beens and the mojitos looked refreshing. Recently a friend that lives in Brooklyn located and we went this weekend, and I would like to say WE cleaned our plates!!! I have not been out to dinner to a place where I ENJOYED the ENTIRE meal!! Even the bread was tasty, and the dipping sauce was deliciously spicy. The only small drawback was the dessert, it needed to be served thawed, not frozen. I will go back again!! Also the drinks were good but could have been a little stronger, I only had one but I think if I had another I would have been good. Mojitos is a nice date spot as well as a casual spot to grab a good, filling, bite to eat!!! To ALL: Go U will LOVE it!!!! Pros: Good Food, Ambiance, Service Cons: Dessert more

BEST Cuban spot out there! 1/10/2010

From the moment you walk in the door you're hit with the amazing aroma coming from the kitchen leaving you anxious to look through the menu and quickly place your order. I loved the decor of the restaurant. Everything from the paintings by the artist named Velez to the exposed bricks, down the the lighting against light blue walls. I truly can not say enough about how delicious the food was. The portions are large and the tasty. You have to make sure to ask for the Mojito Sauce. It goes with everything from bread to rice to fish. You can even buy a jar of it at the restaurant! Can't wait to go there again!! Its officially one of my favorite spots. Looking forward to a Manhattan location in the future. Pros: Mojito Sauce is a must more

Terrible Service High Prices HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS!!! 7/19/2009

Every time I call I am on hold forever or they just don't pick up. When you do finally get some slacker on the line they act like they could care less about your patronage and often get the orders wrong. It's a shame because the chef's are doing a great job in the kitchen but the staff and management could use a huge face lift. Would not recommend this place it seems like a lot of work for a meal and it's expensive as all get out!!! Pros: Good food Cons: Too much drama to deal with more

No Place for Betty & Veronica from Fort Greene 6/5/2008

First the good news. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the drinks were good. But...No place for Betty & Veronica :( My mom lives in Fort Green Brooklyn where I grew up. This past weekend while I was driving around with mom we came across Mojitos on Washington Ave. We were so excited to see a Cuban food restaurant in the neighborhood. Being Puerto Rican we can certainly identify with Cuban food and we certainly know good spanish food when we eat it. When I came home I looked up the reviews on the internet and they were not favorable, but I still wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt until I tried for myself. Well my sister Veronica just came in from Virginia Beach to visit with my mom and they telephoned me to let me know they tried the restaurant and the food was terrible - (they did say the margarita & mojito drinks they had were good). Unfortunately I hadn't told them about the unfavorable reviews in time to prevent them from going. Latinos are used to large portions being served on our plates - The portions were small...we say only big enough to fill a cavity (that's not a good thing). In my excitement on coming across this restaurant I also telephoned my sister Wilma in New Jersey to tell her about Mojitos. I have to save her. I had really wished their restaurant would satisfy us since we do need a good spanish food restaurant in downtown Brooklyn - However mediocre is not ok, it has to be a GOOD spanish restaurant.\r Too Bad Soo Sad Pros: Good Drinks Cons: Small Portions more

Cuban Restaurant in Brooklyn 6/2/2008

My boyfriend and I live in Ft. Greene and he is Cuban so we were excited about a Cuban restaurant. The food is awesome, the ropa vieja is ridiculously good. The thing is, every time we order, something goes wrong. The first time, we got the wrong food, then called and they sent the right food right away. OK. Fine. The next time, I paid by credit card over the phone and he told me 20 minutes. Well, 40 minutes later I call to check on my delivery and he told me it's ready, we have been waiting for you to pick it up. Why would I pay by phone for pick up? Like I said, the food is really good, but I hope they get the service part together. more

Great customer service-friendly and warm 6/1/2008

I've been to Mojito's Restaurant on many ocassions. The first time was with one of my best girlfriends. The waiter attending us brought the pan (bread) and dipping sauces right away. The bread was warm, and the sauces were\r at turns sweet or spicy. My girlfriend and I shared the coconut shrimp which was sweet and crunchy on\r the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. We had drinks too! A mojito for her and a tequila sunrise for me-delicious and refreshing. \r \r The third time I went(and this is the standout), I took my boyfriend for his birthday. It was about 5:30 on a Friday, and there was a quiet buzz there-not quite busy but not exactly crazy-it was the before dinner crowd. We were seated right away, and again, our friendly waiter brought out that delicioso bread and the dipping sauces. We wanted to try\r something new so our waiter suggested the coconut mojitos-when they came oh my gosh they were soooo good!\r My boyfriend had the salmon bathed with coconut sauce and I had the tilapia-we were both looking at each other \r in amazement at how both fish dishes were so tasty, moist and fragrant. Both of these dishes were prepared by a visiting chef-and when we complimented the chef to our waiter-the waiter brought her out to meet us! \r \r I love this place, the decor has antiques and collectibles on the walls, and the chairs and tables are wooden with a\r well worn patina. The bar area is cozy and invites people to socialize. \r \r The waitstaff is gracious-the attention is timely and the food is delicious! The chef was excellent and I wish to\r goodness I could remember her name!\r \r This will not be the last time I visit-I love this place and recommend it highly! Pros: Ambience,Service, Food, Friendliness, Cons: Parking can be difficult if you arrive during busiest hours more

Very nice makeover! 5/30/2008

I went to Mojito a few times over the last couple of months. They changed the decour a little bit(I love the open windows), and they also introduced a new menu. The menu is shorter(not so many choices anymore, and my favorite red beans are gone), but the quality of food is amazing. Tilapia was replaced by Cod, which is sooo much better, and the Ropa Vieja is made of short rib now adding flavor and texture to this classic. They took Jumbo Shrimp off their main dish menu, but just ask the server, and you can still get it as dinner(it's in the appt now). Every time I went they had interesting and very tasty specials, the chicken stew, and the red snapper to die for...One thing, and I guess it depends on the bartender, sometimes the wait for drinks was 2 long(got appetizers before), and when they came out they were nothing as they used to be. I want mint and limes in my mojito, not just pure rum, and when it comes to martinis, well, if you're a bartender in NYC you should know how to make them. I usually go on the weekend, and I've never had a bad experience with the service. There is always someone at the door greeting people, and their waiters know the food, and are very attentive, but not intrusive. Overall great place to have a birthday party or a romantic dinner, but I wish they brought the candles back; I like the dim lights, but reading the menu can be difficult. Four stars this time, going strong on five with a few adjustments. Pros: Excelent service, and awesome food. Cons: Slow bartenders! more

A little taste of home 5/21/2008

I have been at Mojito several times since I've moved into the building. Food has always been fresh and tastefull.\r They had a little change on staff and service quality had dropped a little, but i have been there yesterday and it seens that they are working on that. we had this brazilian as our waiter, very eficcient, very polite and carefull. The drinks were also very good. Mojitos are superb, you will have to watch yourself because before you know you are on the third round.\r \r Food have changed too. They have been trying different seasonings and ways to prepared and they finnaly got it right. meats are juice and full of flavor.\r \r would go again anytime.\r Pros: MOJITOS and caipirinhas (make sure you ask the brazilian to do it. Cons: the constant change in preparation and staff, but they are working on that and getting it right more

Rudest, most unaccomodating host I have ever come across. Will never go back. 5/13/2008

My sister, who lives in the building above Mojito, made a reservation for my family (6 of us) to have an early dinner (5pm) on Mother's Day. When we walked in, there were plenty of patrons eating, but also plenty of empty tables. It was hardly crowded, especially by New York standards. The host, some guy with a ""my sh*t doesn't stink"" attitude and a kangol cap on (really hip, buddy - how very Brooklyn of you), leaned against the bar, barely glanced our way, and told us we'd have to wait. When my sister pointed to several open tables and asked if we could simply sit in one of those, he explained that they were expecting a party of 20 and we would still have to wait. When she asked how long, he replied ""I dunno....an hour?"". When she asked ""even with a reservation, we have to wait an hour?"" he then turned to the women sitting at the bar and said ""you see what I have to deal with?"". My sister, who was mortified, thanked him for being so unaccomodating and we turned around and left. What a lovely experience for my family. We wound up walking about 10 minutes up the street (not an easy feat for my mother, who has MS and is disabled - did I mention it was Mother's Day?) and ate at Chez Lola, a MUCH BETTER restaurant with a lovely waitstaff and we wound up having a great time, thankfully. Later that evening, my sister went back and complained to the manager, who didn't do anything except offer a lame apology. The staff at this restaurant is probably the rudest I have ever come across, having lived in New York City for the past 4 years, and no one I know will ever be going back to Mojito ever again. Stay away if you like good service and people who don't have huge sticks up their a$$es. Not worth it. Pros: Nothing Cons: Rudest staff I've ever met. No food or drink is worth putting up with them. more

20% gratuity added on a 2 person bill for mediocre service. 4/27/2008

I live around the corner and have gone to Mojitos many times. Previously the food was good, and the rates were fine. However, there must have been a change in management (or ownership), for the food was mediocre and the service was poor. On top of that, they added a 20% gratuity to a two person bill; this is ridiculous and unprecedented. Overall, my experience was awful, from a place i generally enjoy. They will not have me as a customer in the future. Pros: Good ambience Cons: Awful service, 20% gratuity added on a two person bill more

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!! 4/20/2008

I have been a regular loyal patron for years and I am thouroughly disgusted with this place. It took over two hours to get a fish that was full of bones and SCALES!!! Not to mention extremely over priced. After I cancelled the order due to the 2 hour (KEEP IN MIND THE PLACE WAS EMPTY WHEN WE ARRIVED) wait kthey brought it to me anyway and refused to take it off the bill even though it was not edible. The owner took it to the kitchen and poked throught it (I saw her from where I was seated) and then said there was nothing she could do because the customer had to absorb the cost. In addition, the waitstaff kept forgetting our order!! Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. The best part of the place was the spanish waitress who brought us bread because we were starving. Cons: all, food, long wait, terrible service more

went for brooklyn week, wish I went somewhere else, poor customer service 3/26/2008

I had been dying to go , and restaurant week was a perfect opportunity to go. We arrived decor was great. The prix fix menu left much to be desired so we order for the regular menu. The empanadas were good, but not great. My husband had a chicken dish...nothing spectacular. He didn't like it very much. I had fish, It was okay. I guess want I want to say my experience there was very mediocre , nothing special and nothing that would make me want to return and spend $80 on food that I didn't really like. and service please... They only had one waitress and the place was pretty crowded. We had to wait longer than appropriate for almost everything. food... drink... we were going to order dessert but the wait was too long.. so we had to wait for the bill too. I saw other people trying to get her attention so they could pay their bill too. So overall that was a real problem. In closing the mojitos were good, but you can get good mojitos a lot of places. Also, we asked them to wrap up our leftovers, which they did but.. they put my coconut fish and shimp, which was in a very creamy sauce,my husband's grilled chicken dish also in a little sauce, rices and beans(in sauce) in one container. One very small container, no dividers, food piled up on top of each other. gross for me, but my husband ate it any way. Overall for cuban food, it was ok but definitely not for the money that was spent. Pros: Ambience Cons: service, mediocre food more

Worst Meal Of the Year 2/27/2008

I was very excited to hear that a Cuban restaurant delivered to my house in Clinton Hill. My roommates and I ordered 3 lunch specials: 2 steak sandwiches with salad, and 1 chicken sandwich with soup. Delivery arrived rather promptly and was pretty warm. I can't complain about service at all, but the food was TERRIBLE. Literally the worst meal I've eaten this year, and perhaps last. The food seemed to be prepared okay, and the ingredients were even fresh, but it was just simply DISGUSTING. The steak in the sandwiches was bland, dry, and rubbery. I've never until today had steak that tasted like cold cuts. The bread was harder than it should have been. My roommate said the chicken sandwich was okay, but I just can't believe that. The salads were 70% onions, an onion medely if you will, covered in a mayonaise-like pink dressing. Gross, gross, GROSS. My papa rellena was just off. The ground beef inside was okay, but the potato had an almost sour taste to it. It reminded me of the sour cheese on the steak sandwiches. Perhaps the worst of all was my roommate's soup. Simply put, they took the water they boiled the corn in, added more corn, added actual corn cobs (was this a mistake??), and called it soup. I paid $31 with tip for food I threw out after a few bites, and I feel a little sick now. I wanted to like this place, but I'll take Sophies Or Tina's in the city for Cuban fast food any day. Pros: Average delivery time Cons: THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE. more

DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR! the OWNER called me a b*tch. 2/8/2008

I wish I could give them NO stars but citysearch doesn't make that possible. I just had the WORST experience at this place. My coworkers and I have been going there for happy hour pretty regularly and it turned out to be a mistake. There were some discrepencies with the bill tonight and they refused to accept responsiblity for THEIR mistake. The server was EXTREMELY rude about the whole situation and actually acting very childish about the whole situation even going as far as butting in when we were trying explain the situation to the manager. After we spoke to the manager the OWNER came over and basically, in not so many words said that they couldn't control the computer (and how it calculated our bill) and we were causing a scene she cut us off when one of my coworkers tried to explain the situation, very calmly, she started to walk away. She then proceeded to mutter under her breath and exclaim that were causing drama and when I spoke to her to try to rectify the situation, she called me a b*tch and proceeded to scream at us as we walked out the door. Cons: The owner has no idea how to do business more

Fidel takes his Mojitos without seltzer 12/1/2007

To the supposed bartender who believes that seltzer water actually belongs IN a mojito....I am so sorry my dear but there are 4 things, 5 if you count ice, that belong in a mojito. Mint, lime, sugar, rum. Thats it. Soda belongs on the side, you talk & sip & thats your mojito. As this drink has become popular in America it has been modified for the American palette, and to lower the ever important liquor costs (gotta love the SLA). If you received a mojito without seltzer you got blessed by a bartender with a heavy hand...and by the way - the mint essence, my friend, is MINT!!!! If nothing else, Mojito's is a place where you can actually get a real mojito at an affordable price. Perhaps you would prefer to pay $14 for a glass of seltzer with a splash of lime & rum (and don't forget they minty essence)? I'll take my gi-normous glass of rum for $7.50. Thanks. My challenge to you bartender - come back on a Friday night, ask for the bartender named Isa. I promise you will love whats in your glass! Pros: Big glasses more

Mojito NOjito 7/7/2007

Unfortunately all the great thngs we once liked about this place have fallen away. In the past few months (and we have now given it three times hoping we were just on off'nights), we realize we will not be returning at all ever. \r \r If you decide to go beware that it will take a very long time to get a drink and your food and your waiter to follow up on both if these. They are really stupid because the first rule is good service, meaning give the people a drink quickly and keep checking up and get them their food in a reasonable amount of time and they will make more money and see better tips. I saw who I believe was the manageer flitting around appartly unaware tables (I saw we weren't the only ones languishing) were fidgeting and getting antsy.\r \r My advice-stay away. Plenty of better place in Fort Greene. Pros: once you get a drink it is good Cons: service is very slow more

So Done with this place 7/6/2007

Like one of the reviews wrote - I used ot be a regular there - not anymore. They are just not organized and are resting on thier laurels and you know what guys ?(whisper) You're food isn't that great.\r there are much more professional service oriented restaurants in Fort Greene -- this service is so bad - it'll just waste your time. Don't bother --- really more

Oh yes, there will be waiting...and waiting..and waiting..... 7/6/2007

My wife and I have been suckered into thinking each time the service will be better-- Here is how it goes...\r \r You sit at a table and think everyone has their act together. WRONG. So naturally you take your time, you order some drinks and you realize after 10 minutes they are not coming. -- then another five go by and they have some excuse. Then perhaps another five go by -- God help you if you order an appetizer -- more excuses. It goes on an on -- They will never ask you for a drink again either by the way. You get one for the evening I guess. \r \r Once we ordered drinks -waited FOREVER and then the main meal came before we got the drinks. That's how great this sinking ship is. Pros: wait service is horrid Cons: the free bread snacks they give in the beginning- you'll need them more
