Amazing dinner and service! 12/2/2011

I had the pleasure of eating at Max Lager's for the last 2 nights while in Atlanta for a conference. I want to commend the staff who served us tonight, particularly your hostess and our server Jeffery. Both provided incredible service to our party of 7. Jeffery encouraged us to try your ribs, pork chop, fried chicken, BBQ plate and the fantastic fried cheesecake and carmel pecan brownie. He paired our meal perfectly with wine and as Californians we were all impressed. My friends and I remarked that we had the meal of our lives last night. Thank you for the incredible food and service. more

Good Beer, Bad Service 8/1/2010

I took one my buddies here for his birthday upon the recommendation of others. I had heard a lot of good things about it, but from my experience I couldn't recommend this place to anybody. The beer was quite tasty. However the service was so poor that it simply does not make up for it. The bartender insulted our group and was not very timely at all. To top it all off, after he didn't receive the tip he thought he ""deserved"" he came after our group a 1/4 of a mile down the street..... There are a lot of options to stop in for good beer in the downtown area. This should not be one of them. Pros: Beer was quite good Cons: Service was very poor/unprofessional more

Good steaks and beer! 6/16/2010

good location, good beer, good steaks....service was good enough, but not over friendly. I recommend it. more

Great group dinner experience 1/21/2010

The staff and service were exceptional. Our group event was wonderful at Max Lager's. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food and local-brewed beer was excelent. A great place to go with a group or just with a few friends. Pros: Great service, great beer, great food more

Awsome Dining Experience! 1/17/2010

My family and I had such an enjoyable evening at this resturant. The atmosphere is a mix of a laid back and casual coupled with fine dining; beautiful lighting in the evening. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned. The wait time was perfect in between courses. The staff was friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. It has been so long since my family and I had a dining experience like this one. If you are going out to eat, you have to go here. The food was so good, I cannot describe it, you have to go for yourself. Next time I'm in Atlanta, I will be dining at Max Lagers. I recommend trying the fried cheesecake. Pros: Excellent Food and Service more

Beer Pairings offer unique experience 1/11/2010

With all of the dining options available to visitors of Atlanta, Downtown is often overlooked. However, if you want to drink some quality microbrews and dine on continental offerings with a Southern flare, Max Lager’s is the place. You can park across the street at a discounted rate (Inquire with staff). The décor is industrial and cheery. I enjoyed a meal at the bar. The bartender was courteous and knowledgeable. It was a chilly December afternoon, so I started with a cup of Gumbo and a Gold Lager. The Gumbo warmed me with its flavors and healthy chunks of chicken & sausage. The lager balanced with it well. The bartender informed me of the days lunch special and did little else to influence my decision. The Beef Brisket Tacos sounded too good to pass up. Ronnie, the bartender, suggested a Brown Ale to go with the tacos. Again, another good call. The tacos were served with a side of corn salsa and green chili sauce. For dessert, I enjoyed a Max Abbey. It was flavorful and delicious with a hint of sweetness at the finish. Insofar as exceeding my expectations, I would have to give this experience “Two Thumbs Up!” Pros: Beer Selection Cons: none during this visit more

Fish taco and more!!! 2/13/2009

I frequent the downtown restaurants as I work and live in the area. Max Lagers always provides a solid answer to my hunger. Yesterday I was in for the first time since the holidays and they had an awesome fish soft taco made with mahi mahi. I couldn't finish it all, it was massive and was really, really good. It was a special and I am writing this review to let them know to put it on the menu permanently!!! thanks guys for doing a great job. See you very soon! more

Amazing Staff 1/22/2009

I go to Max Lager's every time I am in town for the mart .\r I love the Texan steak and the Max Black Beer.\r I happen to have been there on Sunday night and I can say that it was extremely busy. \r I have met the manager Bill several times and he has always made time time to spend a moment talking to me.He and his staff do a wonderful job everytime I am In the restaurant. \r Rena, does a great job at the bar and I always feel welcome, No matter who is working.\r I am always asked when I turn in my reciepts why I go to the same place everynight to eat? \r They have great food, good beer and Great people. \r Everyone and place has a bad day, it seems folks always take time to write the bad review, yet have little time to give a good one.\r I myself have been to the restaurant more than once and rarely do I see them fail. \r Thank you and keep up the good work. Pros: Great Steaks and beer more

I'm STILL hungry 1/19/2009

UNBELIEVABLE! How can a restaurant run out of 75% of its menu items??!!! No pizza, no pasta, no fish, no ribs. NO PIZZA! Granted, it was 9pm on a Sunday night (we waited for an hour and a half even though we called ahead; and during that time, no one mentioned that the kitchen had been all but wiped out), but you're in the downtown area of a major convention city... You have to be prepared for big crowds, right? Guess not. Most of the servers did their best under the circumstances, but the manager - when we complained about the situation - was kind of rude: ""What do you want me to do about it?"" Oh, and one person at our table ordered the Bison Burger & another ordered a regular hamburger... they said they tasted exactly the same. And yes, the beers were flat. more

Nothing available on the menu. 1/13/2009

I went to there with 10 work colleagues from both New York and Chicago. We waited 90 minutes, although we had reservations and drank the beer that was agreed by all to be flat. This place was out everything - pizza dough, so no pizza, no pasta primavera, no salmon, no ribs, no guacamole for quesadillas, no sirloin steak, and I'm sure there were others. What a disappointment because we went there for the wood fired pizza touted by their logo and slogan. I would NEVER go back there again, sorry. more

Not Bad, But Not Impressed 1/12/2009

I had a steak dinner, and a friend had salmon in early January, 2009 while in Atlanta for training. The atmosphere was okay, but the meal was unimpressive. The food reminded me of a small eatery in any small town you might run across: it was palatable. However, given the many great choices in downtown Atlanta, I can't recommend this one. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food, service more

So much fun! 11/23/2008

My husband and I love this place. It is one of Atlanta's best kept secrets! If you are looking for a fun time at dinner or a great movie watching experience this place has it all.\r \r \r Mrs. Rosie Pros: Fun movie atmosphere more

Great Place to meet Friends 11/1/2008

I have been coming to Max intermittently for many years and I would probably best categorize it as ""upscale comfort food."" The decor and frankly, most of the menu, are pretty forgettable, but for me, it's all about the service.\r \r Every time we come here it feels like going to visit a friend. All the wait staff knows us and they are always accommodating - not JUST to us, but I see it with everyone they serve.\r \r Great place to meet friends, but I wouldn't really recommend it for a date restaurant because, well - REALLY, it's a neighborhood joint. If my date was that cheap, then there 'aint gonna BE a second date, y'know what I'm sayin'?\r \r Oh yeah, and I'm also rating this place high for the fact that every time I eat here I get so incredibly stuffed I feel like a cow when leaving, yet miraculously wake up the next morning feeling as skinny as a supermodel. Coincidence? I think not.\r Pros: serviceifood more

Don't knock it till you try it. 10/6/2008

Look, I go to Max Lagers at least once a week because I work downtown and would consider it one of my favorite places to go around Downtown Atlanta. Maybe this guy's server was just having a bad day, but as often as I go, the service has been consistently good and the food is very good. I usually sit up at the bar for lunch, but my coworkers and I have gone to Max Lagers for happy hour too because they have great beers and the food is good. I hate bad service just as much as anyone else, and wouldn't go to Max Lager's as often as I do if the service wasn't consistently good. Judge it for yourself, but coming from a regular, I love this place. Pros: Convenient to Downtown, great food & drink, cool happy hour spot Cons: Parking more

Worst service 10/4/2008

This has to have been the worst service i have had in a very long time.I was in town for work and stayed at the hyatt and saw this place and thought to check it out,BIG MISTAKE.I first order a drink called a max margarita it was an average drink tasted like a margarita. Then i waitied for my server who kept walking by but did'nt ask if i was ready to order,I finally got her to come take my order 10 wings as a starter and the ribs as my entree, also asked for some bread with my meal because i saw other tables with some on there tables.I never got the bread, wings came with my meal about 35-40 minutes later the server never said sorry or try to make things better.she acted like she just wanted to get me out of there.ALL in all my food got cold the wings were under cooked still a little pink in the middle. The staff did'nt seem friendly and the decor is like eating in a very old warehouse. If your every in atlanta aviod this place,I asked i local if he every goes to max lagers,he said that he and friends had a bad time there about 6months ago and would not return. Pros: In downtown Cons: Bad part of town,Bad service more
