My husband and I are physique and figure competitors respectively and require a great deal from our training facility since we spend so much of our time there daily (3+ hours!) du...

The Owners are shady and should be dealt with accordingly. BEWARE and do not trust! This place will not be in business much longer.

Left with a STAPH INFECTION!! don't risk it! 9/1/2010

I contracted a STAPH INFECTION from the spa!! What a horrible experience!! I started going a few months ago and had no complaints except the price. But it's close to my house so convenience over rules. So I REALLY liked how I could stop into the spa to take care of my waxing and occasionally treat myself to a massage. UNTIL I left with STAPH. I've been getting waxed for years and only once did my skin react badly and break out from clogged pores afterward. So, I thought that's what happened. But over the following three days the blisters on my face kept spreading and spreading until I ran to the doctor's and well . . you get the picture. I had to call out of my NEW job for the next three days, pay $150 for doc apt (no insurance) and $89 for the medication. Then deal with the antibiotics messing with my stomach and the embarrassing Staph on my face!! It's been three weeks now and it looks like there's going to be a scar but I have my fingers crossed it will fade. I did my research online and after speaking with the doctor extensively about the issue have found that this is not uncommon in spa's that don't take the proper measure to ensure OUR safety.Such as using a different utensil to dip into wax (which isn't hot enough to kill bacteria) each and everytime!! Two women even died last year in New Jersey from getting a pedicure because of the staff not properly cleaning equipment. SCARY! Yes, they refunded my $12 but when I went in today to speak with the owner, she refused to step out of office to have a 15 minute conversation about the ordeal. Stating to the front desk that it wasn't something SHE deals with. That she's JUST the owner of the gym and not involved with these matters. REALLY? Because she was the one who was running the front desk the day I walked in. She gave me the tour and she's the one who actually sat down with me and helped fill out my contract with them and set up my bank account information. She was very involved that day! It would have shown a lot to have come out and give me 15 minutes of her time so I could tell her exactly what happened, what I found out about how it happened and hopefully it won't happen to someone else. And to hear her apologize and say that she's addressed the issue. I've lost all respect for how they run things. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE SPA AGAIN, but after the way the owner has handeled this, how am I supposed to even think of spending my money there at the gym either?? more

Excellent fitness center and spa! 8/16/2010

Matrix is an outstanding fitness center and spa! I have been a member there for several years, and I'm always greeted with a warm and friendly smile by the employees. The trainers are very helpful with workout techniques and teaching new exercises. The spa is very luxurious and comfortable. I've had many restorative and healing massages there! If you're looking for a fitness center or spa in Denver, Matrix is the place to be! more

WOW!!! 7/15/2010

Like I said, WOW! This gym is amazing! There are so many great things, I dont know where to begin. I have been a member at Matrix for about 6 months now. My only regret is that i havent been here longer. All the staff there is so friendly. I walk in and Ben at the front desk knows my name, knows how many towels i want, and always seems genuinely happy to see me. Then i start my workout and am greeted by all the trainors. I feel so welcome here. I have been training with Matt and he is great! He adapts his style to my needs and no one training session is the same with him. The equipment here is state of the art, lcd screens on every piece of cardio equipment, and i never have to wait for a machine. Did I mention free parking? Good luck finding that anywhere else. Matrix is a top of the line gym and is worth every penny! Pros: Free Parking, Great Service, Awesome Trainers Cons: Only one, I wish it was a chain! more

Not worth it! 8/11/2009

There is no receptionist at the spa you check yourself in. The sheets smelled dingy like they were kept in a old closet. No one was downstairs to let me in had to buzz up. If I didnt have a gc I would have never gone, its 85 for just a basic swedish and honestly there are plenty of other spas in denver that do just as good of a massage for way way less... They have to be out of their minds if they think they are gonna stay busy at the prices set. Just like most spas who dont get it im sure they will follow the rest of the overpriced spas and go under. Pros: Rooms are pretty Cons: Customer service, Price. more

Expensive gym/Terrible Customer Service/Shady billing 7/10/2009

I joined the Matrix Fitness Spa in Jan 2009 and I was excited to work out there. I then got very sick and was unable to work out for almost 4 months. I was told during the sales pitch that they are willing to freeze accounts due to illness. I came to them and asked them to freeze my account for ongoing health issues and asked for a refund for the months that I was very ill. I provided the requested documentation. After getting the run-around for weeks, I encountered a barrage of 'policies' that are nowhere to be found in the contract and which I have yet to see in writing. I would also get read receipts for my e-mails and then be told that my e-mails were not received?! They did finally refund 1.5 months after I formally complained and threatened to take legal action. I also just found out that they charged me again for the month of July after I was told that my account was frozen. So now I have to deal with them on this issue. This gym is expensive - $99/ month for basic membership. I was told that such was justified due to the superior customer service and individual attention....are you kidding me!!!!!! Only use this gym if you can afford to pay ridiculous fees indefinitely, and if you don't value common sense and customer service. Cons: bad billing, bad customer service, expensive membership fees more

So far, so good 1/7/2009

I have belonged to a number of gyms- both in Denver and elsewhere in the country. I wish that there was a place where you could sign up just for classes, because I don't care about anything else, really. Anyway, I joined Matrix recently and I have to say that I enjoy the genuinely friendly staff. The class studio is really small, so I don't know how they are going to accomodate people as their membership grows, but the workout provided is top notch. It would be great if they added some more classes. BodyPump, BodyVive, things of that nature, and also provided them on weekends beyond 9 a.m. But to be fair, no other gym in Denver offers classes as late as the Matrix offers them and I appreciate it for that very reason. I have the impression that Matrix has recently changed hands and I hope the new management continues to make improvements. For the moment, I enjoy the personal attention and the quality workout. Pros: Friendly staff, clean, well-appointed space, reasonable pricing Cons: Parking is a little sketchy and I wish they offered more classes, especially on weekends more

Love this gym 12/30/2008

I am a gym-phobe and have tried everything from the Y and rec centers to Ballys and 24 Hr Fitness and have never felt comfortable at them. I love Matrix and feel comfortable there, though. It's small but I never have to wait for a machine; it seems to be steadily busy no matter what time I'm there. I love that I can park in the garage for free. I'm not sure what the previous poster was talking about -- the door to Matrix is immediately next to the parking spots and I have never walked in to find no one at the front desk (on the contrary, there's usually someone checking you in, someone folding towels, someone else just hanging out). Everyone there keeps to themselves (read: not a meat market) but is really friendly and the staff are just awesome. The facility is really clean. The showers are clean and well-stocked, the towels smell good, the locker room is always spotless, the sauna is clean. It's just a really comfortable place, they have good deals on things, the people are nice, and the lcd tvs make that long stairmaster workout feel shorter! Pros: Machines, trainers, atmosphere, very clean, comfortable, variety of workout options Cons: It's a little pricey, they could use more classes (kickboxing or zumba would be great!) more

Lacking in customer service 6/11/2008

With all the options of spas in the Denver area, you'd think that one would go above and beyond to keep clients coming through the door. I visited the Matrix spa once and that is enough for me. The facial treatment I received was fine, nothing I'd rave about to my friends however. I've been to different spas and clinics throughout this area and now know to mark this one off my list. I don't feel I got the information I was looking for and was stuck with products I didn't need (they have a no return policy that no one bothered to tell me about). I'm happily going elsewhere. more
