I contracted a STAPH INFECTION from the spa!! What a horrible experience!! I started going a few months ago and had no complaints except the price. But it's close to my house so convenience over rules. So I REALLY liked how I could stop into the spa to take care of my waxing and occasionally treat myself to a massage. UNTIL I left with STAPH. I've been getting waxed for years and only once did my skin react badly and break out from clogged pores afterward. So, I thought that's what happened. But over the following three days the blisters on my face kept spreading and spreading until I ran to the doctor's and well . . you get the picture. I had to call out of my NEW job for the next three days, pay $150 for doc apt (no insurance) and $89 for the medication. Then deal with the antibiotics messing with my stomach and the embarrassing Staph on my face!! It's been three weeks now and it looks like there's going to be a scar but I have my fingers crossed it will fade. I did my research online and after speaking with the doctor extensively about the issue have found that this is not uncommon in spa's that don't take the proper measure to ensure OUR safety.Such as using a different utensil to dip into wax (which isn't hot enough to kill bacteria) each and everytime!! Two women even died last year in New Jersey from getting a pedicure because of the staff not properly cleaning equipment. SCARY! Yes, they refunded my $12 but when I went in today to speak with the owner, she refused to step out of office to have a 15 minute conversation about the ordeal. Stating to the front desk that it wasn't something SHE deals with. That she's JUST the owner of the gym and not involved with these matters. REALLY? Because she was the one who was running the front desk the day I walked in. She gave me the tour and she's the one who actually sat down with me and helped fill out my contract with them and set up my bank account information. She was very involved that day! It would have shown a lot to have come out and give me 15 minutes of her time so I could tell her exactly what happened, what I found out about how it happened and hopefully it won't happen to someone else. And to hear her apologize and say that she's addressed the issue. I've lost all respect for how they run things. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE SPA AGAIN, but after the way the owner has handeled this, how am I supposed to even think of spending my money there at the gym either??
