Editorial review from Citysearch 1/4/2013

I purchased a gun from these turds on Gunbroker and immediately faxed a copy of the FFL to the dealer. Also within 24 hours I emailed and called the dealer. However the Dealer's phone message box was full. The next day I called the Dealers ""retail Rpresentative"" and they said they would pass the message to the person who does online sales. I waited 2 days but still didnt get a response. I again emailed and called and left a message for them to contact me for for payment via Visa. another 24 hours passed and I emailed and caled again. Finally I submitted to Gunbroker that I could not contact this dealer to complete the transaction. After another 2 days with no contact...I filed negetive feedback for the Seller. I received no contact from them until 8 days after the purchase! The dealer deserves thier feedback s review because of the sheer lack of communicationrrible customer service. Gunbroker states that the dealer should contact the buyer within 5 days and this did not happem. I am a special operations retired military soldier. I even explaned in a message to this delaer that I needed the weapon for an upcoming overseas security mission but thast didnt help either. I think that they just sold the gun in thier shop and was trying to play the waiting game until they got another. Again, avoid these guys at all costs. There are much more professional shops locally and online that you can do business with. more

Worst service I have ever received 12/23/2011

I have an Springfiled XD 45 Compact 4"". I went to the Marksman to find a holster for it. When I walked in I was one of 3 people in the store and yet they seemed to busy to help me. I finally had someone welcome me and ask me if I need anything. I told them what I was looking for and they showed me the 3 options they had for my gun. I decided to purchase the $72.99 leather belt holster that sits on side behind your hip on the back. I the next day I tried the holster and it was to uncomfortable for me to use. I decided to return it and try another one. I didn't think this would be a problem since they had a huge sign under the counter that said ""You must have your receipt to return or exchange and item"". Little to my surprise I was met with a 15% restocking fee when I decided to exchange the holster. The person helping me told me that if I exchanged it I could avoid the fee. I said sure I would like to try another holster. The person treated me like an idiot for not knowing what holster I wanted and then in the very next breath said that it takes a long time to find the right holster. I finally leave with the new holster and again it was very uncomfortable. I took note of the other holster that they offered and went to The Sportsman ***** (I give The Sportsman a 5 star rating) to see if they had a bigger selection and sure enough they did. They had over 8 different holsters for my gun. I ended up buying one there returning it, with no questions or restocking fee, bought another one and that's the one I use today! It's supper comfortable and fits me well. I decided to take the holster that I purchased from The Marksman and return it since it didn't work for me. I knew that I would have to pay the restocking fee of 15% but I thought that I might be able to trade for ammo or something I might use so that I didn't throw away $10. As expected I was met with an attitude and when I asked if they would wave the restocking fee because the ammo they were selling was almost double what you could buy it at Bull's Eye or The Sportsman. The math didn't add up, I was going to loose less by taking the restocking fee. I'm very disappointed with the service and the attitude that I was faced with, the manager or owner said that this is exactly why they have a restocking fee so that people like me don't rent stuff from them. I'm frustrated with the Marksman's decision to forever loose me as a customer because I like and prefer to buy from locally owned businesses. Good buy Marksman you blew it with me. Rhett more

Mostly ok, just rubbed the wrong way 11/1/2011

Couple things: I called, asking if they had an accessory...they said no, so I ordered it on line and waited for it to come in. I went there several days later, and wouldn't you know it, the accessory I called about was on the shelf. Then, I wanted to take my kid to the range. Of course, there is a one time range safety fee...ok, no problem. Then, my kid wants to shoot on the range. Of course, there is a range fee, no problem. So I want to go in and instruct my kid...what, I got to pay a range fee too? It just rubbed the wrong way...mainly I'm getting this off my chest, as I don't know who the owner is to complain to. And, I don't even know if I would complain, cause I wouldn't want the staff to be pissy with me for complaining. Will I go back, yes. Are they an ok shop? Yes. Did they miss an opportunity to really wow me with customer service? Yes. more

They are great 3/5/2011

The staff at the Marksman are great for help and safety. They have fair prices and I always feel like the area is safe and protected. They taught gun safety to my Scout Troop and watch the Scouts closely. Oscar is an especially good instructor. more

Grain of salt. 12/21/2010

I have been to the marksman many times, but only purchased one gun from them. Most of the time I am there to buy accessories(toys) for my guns or use of their gunsmith. The store is for the most part well stocked and their prices are not excessive.\r \r If go to Marksman Gun Shop on a friday or saturday afternoon they are usually pretty busy so be ready to wait a bit. I dont find this unreasonable since if you go to cabelas on a weekday at say... 11am youll wait an hour before they call your number and thats if there are only a few people ahead of you. \r The staff at the marksman are fairly short with you as far as questions(when they are busy) but this is understandable. They are in the business of selling guns not BSing. If your just there to look around, be polite enough to tell them that when they address you. They will let you look around and check back with you when they are done with customers who are actually there to buy something and know what they want.\r I personally go to a few gun shops when I buy weapons or parts. Partially because no gunshop can carry EVERY gun, but also because I am such a cheapskate I like to shop around. \r \r more

Shocked.... 9/17/2010

....to see so many bad reviews. I have bought 4 firearms from them and I used to shoot there about 3 times a week. I used to live right behind the store, at canyon park apartments. I moved to gig harbor and thats the only reason I don't shoot there as often anymore. I am an non-commissioned officer in the United States army, and I have always appreciated their customer service and their knowledge on the weapons they sell. I also think that their range is very well ran and their safety rules are adecuate. In my experience, I have never come across a rude attendant in the store. They even address me by my rank when I go in in uniform, which is something they are not required to do because they are civilians!!! Their prices are very reasonable and their military discount make a world of difference when purchasing a firearm. Having said that, the store gets pretty busy with people wanting to shoot and sometimes the guys are very busy and, as expected, try to talk to you as fast as possible to get you out of the way and move on to the next customer. This is is normal at a place as busy as the marksman, but specially sensitive people may interpret this as ""rudeness"". Maybe having more employers at a time could fix this? I have no problems wit the way they do business though. more

Hmmm... 8/4/2010

I'm a lifelong gun lover and enthusiast. I always look for a good deal, a good price, and friendly knowledgeable folks to compare notes with/pick their brains, etc. So I stumbled onto The Marksman while online a few weeks ago and gave them a call to see if they had the Ruger GP100 .357 mag. They did so i went to the store a few days later, cash in my pocket and looking to get my newest toy. This is where I entered the Twilight Zone. These guys are in business to make money but were so rude and arrogant that it was a little shocking. After talking to this one little boy behind the counter, and getting one and two word answers from him, I got fed up with his foolishness and asked to see the pistol I wanted to buy. I then turned and said something to another clown a few feet away and he did the exact same thing. Thats when my inner voice said ""GO BUY IT SOMEWHERE ELSE"". So I did. I don't know who owns that store but you seriously need to check up on your people. I'm not a picky person but when I go into a store to spend some of my hard earned money, the least you can do is act like my business is welcome. But on the other hand, maybe you already have enough business, in which case all of this makes perfect sense. Either way, I ain't comin back. more

Bought my first handgun ever here 5/30/2010

I researched this place online and saw all the negative reviews, but they were also the only place nearby that had the handgun I wanted, and they also had it at a great price, too. I went in with my guard up, expecting the worst, as everyone's been posting... \r \r What I found was a place that has a huge selection covering a range of weapons, that was extremely busy! There was a waitlist to use their indoor firing range, and the salespeople had lines of people waiting to speak with them. I didn't meet a single rude person working there. I was continually reassured that they were working quickly to help me. Maybe people interpret them trying to work quickly as being rude, I don't know. The salesman who helped me was very efficient and quickly helped me, but he also made sure that all my questions and concerns were addressed. \r \r I am totally happy with the service of this shop, and would recommend it to anyone. Don't expect a salesman to follow you around while you casually browse their selection and try to make small talk, they are busy guys and they will take care of you! Pros: Excellent selection, good location, good prices Cons: Maybe understaffed more

ive bought many from here 5/22/2010

I've purchased 5 firearms from this place and have never had an issue. patience goes along way when dealing atthe marksmans, its a decent sized store with with an adequate staff to assist when you need it. I admit I only deal with 2-3 of there employees. the others give a vibe that i dislike, so i give my commissions to someone else. i love the place and i use there range weekly Pros: selection, indoor range Cons: there busy times more

This place is a joke! 2/26/2010

My first visit there was with my wife and I have never met so many rude people ever!! It's so tence in there your scared to ask or say anything because you might be tossed out on your ass! I was brave ad went back and took my 2 daughters so they can shoot there first handguns. At first everything seemed fine and we checked out a couple of 22's for the girls then i wanted to shoot the G17 so I went in the offive and gave them my lic. and got the G17 well when we checked we made sure we handed them all guns we had checked out and they had handed my wife my Id well my wife thought it was hers and I had got my own. That night she relized that she didnt have her lic. so we called up there and they said there was no sign of it the next day I said it has to be there so we went back and the guy at the counter said it wasnt there then some girl wisperd to him and they went up some stairs and returned with dirty hairy lol. The guy said where's the gun? And I said what are you talkin about? and he said a police officer had found the G17 on the range in the morning and I said imposs!!!!! because I know for a fact I had checked it in and not only that but I have my lic. and that was used to check it out so explaine that to me and I also asked if that was the case then why didnt they notice in there glass case that someone had left there lic. and a gun was missing and also why are they not clearing there range at night lol This was a joke and the guy said if someone had takin it we would be held repons. and I said NO lets check the video tape and well guess what they refused lmao because they knew they had screwd up and not givin back both lic so came up with some BS story to cover there ass but didnt relize I checked out the G!& and I got my lic back lol what a Joke!.....believe it or not I went back for a 3rd and last time and this time I came in and checked out a gun and the guy asked me very rudley what about ammo and I said I still have some left that they had already sold me and the guy started scolding me telling me I can't do that and I need to check that off before I leave next time and a bunch of other BS!!! even if I had been in the wrong the way we were treated was absolutly inexcusable!! I was looking to buy a g17 or poss a springfield XD9 from them that day but said FK them and I will never go back! I should have known though because my wifes father warned me about them and said he hates them and will never go back there!! Cons: everything more

Great Place to Shoot 11/8/2009

I've been to the Marksman 4 times in the last couple months and had a great experience every time. The people were fast and gave good customer service. \r \r I even took my wife to rent a Ruger LCR and the people behind the counter answered every question without making her feel like a total idiot.\r \r I don't understand some of the bad reviews. The few times I've been there everyone was courteous and friendly, but then so was I. Maybe that makes a difference. Pros: Plenty of lanes, I've never had to wait Cons: Need better brooms to sweep up the brass :) more

Not your average gun shop 7/7/2009

I have been a Marksman customer for three years. I have been a hunter my entire life. I never felt the need to carry a weapon for every day personal protection until 3 years ago. \r \r For those of you considering the acquisition of a hand gun for personal protection for the first time, I would suggest that you consider the various training courses available at the Marksman prior to purchasing your first hand gun. \r \r The courses are taught by experienced LE officers that want to make sure you not only have sufficient knowledge but also go away from the training with the proper attitude.\r \r As for some of the complaints in other reviews I would say some are true and some others are to be expected. If you go into the Marksman with the wrong attitude you are likely to be disappointed. The majority of the staff will notice your attitude and less than patient demeanor. If you present with these attributes you can expect to experience delays or be outright discouraged. \r They do their best to mitigate the pinheads which means you are likely to have a relatively safe experience in the store and on the range. Not so at some other facilities.\r \r As you might guess I would recommend the Marksman for both the beginner as well as the proficient. If you are a beginner get some training. If you are proficient get some refresher training. Either way have the right attitude before you walk into the store or step onto the range. If you can't seem to muster it up then you certainly don't need to be carrying on the street.\r Pros: Selection, Location, Hours, Training, Frequent LE presence Cons: Busy more

Amazing selection and prices 7/6/2009

I own Kidon International a private security and investigation company located in Auburn, WA. We have used the Marksman to purchase all our weapons for years. I can tell you the prices and the Marksman are hard to beat. They also have law enforcement prices for qualified buyers. The selection is one of high quality firearms, no junk guns here. They have a nice indoor pistol range which is monitored by staff for your and my safety. You must take a safety orientation before using the range. I understand some of you may not feel that you do not need the orientation because of past training but it is because of lawyers and lawsuits that this is required. It is not to punish you or doubt your skills. Lastly you do have to wait sometimes for quite a bit to be helped by staff because of how busy the marksman is. Just plan ahead for this. I have been to every gun shop in this area and I can tell you none of them are perfect. There are some other good gun shops in this area but this review is strictly about the Marksman. I recommend you go there with an open mind and give them a try. more

BAD SERVICE 6/10/2009

I Drove all the way there becuase my compant gets a ""DISCOUNT""..witch they would not disclose over the phone.. I Get there and the discount is 20$.. WOW. They would not take my trade nor would they work with me on price or throw in even a box of ammo on my deal. Our company qualifys and what not specifically through them and they would not budge one bit for me. THEN after presenting them with my CPL and Armed guard lisence i get put on DELAYED status. Then the managers excuse was that he cant work prices cuz they already are the cheapest around. I then called 3 diff local shops and they all had the same price for the same exact weapon. Never again will i buy there. Pros: Selection Cons: STAFF more

a review as an ex employee 1/29/2009

I worked for the marksman in Puyallup, for the better part of two years. One thing that alot of customers do not understand is sometimes we have to just keep moving on to other customers. The enviroment is often mis understood by the customer. Most of the staff would love to do nothing more than stand and talk to you about every gun on earth and give you all the information we have on each and every one. Before I became an employee I was a customer, and I found that timing is everything in the store. If you come on a really busy day chances are the staff will be short with you. There are a thowsand phone calls a day to deal with on top of the safety and security of the customers on the floor. Five people literally need to be able to the job of eight. As far as the range safety oreintation goes stop crying and deal with it. I have personally seen the big chest thumping know it alls of the gun world say and do some of the most unsafe things. Those rules are not to teach you how to shoot we assume to a certian extent that you know how to do that when you enter the store. The oreintation is THE RANGE RULES not a introduction to the shooting world. To be compleatly honest with all that read this we try our best to give you a pleasent experiance and some people cant ever be helped enough. One final thought, dont let the reviews fool you. Are you more inclined to write a review if you have had a good or bad experiance. Something to think about huh? Pros: Best prices they can offer. Staff does know what they are talking about. Cons: Unfortunatly a very busy store, but for a reason more

Great Service 10/28/2008

I'm not sure what all the negativity I've read in previous posts is about. I found the service was great; they took the time to show my several options and explained very clearly to me range policies, etc. I look forward to shooting and purchasing there in the future. Pros: Expertise; Proximity to Hwy Cons: ?? more

Not a bad place to buy or shoot. 10/23/2008

I go to The Marksman quite often. Sometimes there real busy and there usually understaffed and looking for help, so I can understand that. When I do speak with a salemen there always pretty courteous and knowledgeable. I've never met a rude or arrogant salesmen there. I recommend this gun shop they have fair prices, especially for military and law enforcement. However, do shop around...doesn't hurt. Pros: Prices, indoor range Cons: understaffed more

do not trust them 9/26/2008

me and my grandfather went to the marksmen to shoot are beretta while we were there we decided to rent a glock aswell and one box of shells after we finished shooting there weapon we put it back in the case and put it aside my grandpa who is a police officer took out the berreta handed it to me and i started to shoot it about 15 min later i was reloading the clips (keep in mind the gun is loaded ith one in the chamber) a person who works there walks in and over and says hes doing a quality check picks up my gun and almost shoots me in the foot he did not do a quality check for know one else and have you ever seen a beretta and a glock big diffrence. so after figuring out it wasnt there gun and are stares he put it down stupidly saying thats not our gun whos is it. i will never go back there again Pros: indoor range Cons: rude, more

Worst in Washington 6/7/2008

This was probably the worst range I've been to in Washington so far. It's actually quite a racket, they force you to pay $10.00 to take a 15 minute ""safety course"". After the normally free safety instruction from any other gun range, you then realize that the price higher than the message states on the recorder that you call into for the range fees. The people are completely rude, and the atomosphere is very unfriendly. After waiting for about 10 minutes to be helped, I was told that I would need to wait a bit before I could get the course. I immediately walked out, went down the road to the outdoor range I found, and had a much much better experience. Avoid this place unless you have the time to waste, and enjoy poor customer service. Pros: Lots of Guns for sale, close to a major freeway. Cons: Poor service, inaccurate advertised fees, poor management, poor range practices. more

Good indoor shooting range, but dont miss my review 5/30/2008

I went prepared to buy a pistol or two, and the @$% at the counter had a problem with me allowing the slide to slam shut, told me thats not the way to treat a gun and he never does that to his guns, and that I had to slowly guide the slide back to a rest position. What? the guns for sale cant take it? I work with mechanics regularly, and to hear such a thing is a very bad sign of mechanical quality when mechanics need human assistance to perform functions of which they were designed, for example, do I need to slow down my car engine to a slow stop? or let it stop on its own? duuuu.. Then the clown got a phone call, told me it was his boss, and went to the back, I waited and waited, and then caught the punk hiding out trying to look busy, no longer on the phone, we made eye contact for a moment, and he slightly increased his stirring around to look busy, the place had many customers, all were being helped except for me, and all staff were busy, except for the one clown that was originally showing me pistols stirring around trying to hide and look busy... This is not the first time I had bad attitude service from this place before.. Now I only go to use the indoor shooting range, but I will never buy any firearm from there again... Yes I did buy a pistol from there before, but never again. I was happy when I showed up, I had cash! I was ready to make a purchase, I was excited! Just to be greeted with an off the scale measure of ARROGANCE with an ATTITUDE!.. I have always picked up arrogance overtones radiating through the entire store, but just tried to push it out of my mind saying to myself, its just me, but its not just me.. now its, shooting range only... Pros: shooting range Cons: very often the atmoshpere reaks of arrogance more
