Our favorite restaurant in Nashville 1/26/2008

This is our favorite restaurant in Nashville. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is fresh and the menu is different each evening. I love the fish and order it every time. There is a great bar and it seems like everyone there knows each other. We take friends that come to town here every time and they always come back wanting more. Do yourself a favor and forget about the other chains and regular places. Give Margot's a chance and you'll see why everyone loves it! Pros: Service is amazing Cons: Not very kid friendly more

Nothing too spectacular 12/28/2007

I visited Margot's for the first time last night and I was really looking forward to something really neat but I was really disappointed. We had reservations at 8 and we got there about ten minutes early because we were told if we did get there early, we would proably be seated early. Well, we were still waiting to be sat at 8:20. Once we were sat we were told by the waitress that over half of what was on the menu was no longer available and we were given alternatives. Our drinks took forever and once we did get our food, it was completely unspectacular. I could have stayed at home and had the same thing. I just thought that the menu was not unique at all and there was nothing special about any of it. The food was not bad but it was just plain that is why I give an average score. Not worth the money and the hassle of getting to East Nashville. I also think if they are marketing themselves as this upscale restaurant they should offer valet or get better parking arrangements. It was such a pain to find a parking place. Pros: Wine list Cons: parking, food, reservation system more

Best place in Nashville 12/27/2007

There are a lot of unique choices and the menu changes daily. The fish is always very fresh, she uses local produce in the summer and the olive oil is our favorite. The service is excellent - we eat here several times a month and we've always been very pleased with our service. Brian, the bartender, makes the best drinks and will gladly serve you at bar if you forget to make reservations. I highly recommend Margo's! Pros: great food, great service and great ambience more

Horrible customer service 10/3/2007

I have gone to every restaurant in Nashville...and this by far has been the worst. It was a Sunday.. for brunch... i was looking forward to going because i have heard people enjoy the food.. however...the service was disappointing. A group of us walked in and asked for a table.. we were told there was a wait.. able to see many available tables.. however we were told to go to the bar. Ten minutes later a group walked in and was seated immediately. We were repeatedly told to go to their sister restaurant Marche... but we ordered at the bar. The entire time we were eating.. their manager was huffing and puffing when customers entered the door... acting like we were putting her out. Which was very rude. And she was very verbal in her complaining also. I have never been one to comment like this however... i have been a foodie and a customer service lover for a long time... and this was very unacceptable! Pros: ? Cons: Customer Service more

Great food, wonderfully pleasing flavors and presentation, reservation system not the best 3/19/2007

The food is excellent. Highly recommended is the duck. The waiter staff is terrific and very accomodating. The only slight negative is the reservation call-back system. When you call for a reservation you are sent to voice-mail. When you finally hear back (could be more than a day later) the attitude (twice in my case) was less than friendly considering the circumstances. Margot should go out of their way to check these reservation messages often, respond quickly, and try to sound delighted when confirming (rather than bothered). This was the only negative. Otherwise, this place is a must go! Pros: Food, service Cons: Attention to reservations more

Don't miss this Eastside gem 3/14/2007

I had a wonderful evening at Margot three years ago with my wife on our second anniversary. It was a wonderful experience then, and after a two year absence from Nashville ended up there with a friend on a whim for dinner. Reservations are recommended, but we were fortunate enough to be seated immediately upon walking in. Service was impeccable and knowledgeable, ambience was great (European cozy, but not crowded), and then there was the food; we started with a pizza of wild boar salami, red potato, parmesan that could've been a meal. Roasted chicken with potatoes and peas, homemade pasta with rabbit and mushrooms for the main course; housemade mocha ice cream with some kind of sweet wafer. All exceptional. Just simple top quality ingredients prepared right and with care. Very reasonable ($60 for two including a couple of drinks apiece) for a fine-dining but not pretentious night out. Pros: Food, service, wine list, overall cool vibe Cons: Very little, but I'd love some tap beers more

Good Food, Bad Service, Wear Kevlar for the neighborhood 3/4/2007

We finally made it to Margot's last night! One of the last spots in town that we had not been to. The food was pretty good and they had some eccentric dishes that you wouldn't expect to find at the typical restaraunt. However, unless you are a relative of the owner do not expect to have any level of service whatsoever. It was quite clear that there are a number of regulars who frequent this restaraunt, who are tended to hand and foot. If you are a newcomer it is difficult to even get a description of a dish or have your wine glasses filled. Luckily for us, I waited tables about 15 years ago so my call to duty was met nicely with my ability to tend to our needs. It was pretty much the worst service we have EVER had. Much worse, when we told them that we were leaving to go to another restaraunt the owner just said he was sorry to hear that and went right back to chatting it up with his friends. If you ever go to Margot's I would suggest takeout. There are only five parking spots out front in the light and if you are not a relative forget about getting one of them. We were asked not to park there and then the owners buddies were parked there when we were walking out. Considering the neighborhood, kevlar would probably be appropriate. With so many fantastic restaraunts in Nashville like Watermark, Radius 10, Ruth's Chris, Park Cafe, Mambu, etc. there is no need to EVER go to a sketchy little shack like Margot's unless you have a relative that works there. Pros: Eccentric Dishes and Menu Changes Daily Cons: Service is absolutely atrocious beyond measure more

delicious cuisine, great east nashville ambiance 11/3/2006

from the first sip of white bean soup we started our meal with, we knew we were on to a good thing here. our waiter was attentive, friendly and helpful, and from our table we could see the small kitchen staff of three working in harmony to churn out one amazing dish after another. our entire meal was perfect - unique, full of flavor and memorable. great ambiance - romantic, intimate and warm in a great old historic east nashville building. the crew at margot is all pro - from the hostess to the kitchen, and it shows. you can't go wrong here. highly recommended. Pros: cuisine, ambiance, service Cons: can't think of any more

love it.. go there. 10/24/2006

Brought some friends from out of town and we all loved it. Had great service from everyone there - not just our waitress. The door people could use a little nudge toward happy land but I can't blame them. People cram in there when they could just as easily go sit on the benches outside and enjoy the weather - so their frustration and attitude might be warranted. Anyway. Had a blast. Food is well thought out. Product is quality. People are well groomed and know what they are talking about when it comes to the food they serve. You should go. Seriously. Pros: nice atmosphere. great food. nice people Cons: the crowd can be overwhelming at the door more

Great Food, great place 10/22/2006

I have been to Margot Cafe three times. We only go on special occasions because the price is a bit out of our budget now that we have two kids. But it is well worth the money. We seem to get out of there with two drinks, appetizer, meal, and a shared dessert for around $100 including tip. Well worth it. Margot has a seasonal menu, and I have yet to try a main course that is less than stellar. Margot is a very talented chef. I am a beer connoisseur, and I greatly appreciate that they have six respectable beers on the menu that pair well with food. Wine list is excellent. My only complaint is that the tables are very close together, so it is almost impossible to have a private conversation. So keep that in mind when making your reservation. But otherwise, one of the best restaurants in town. Highly recommended. Pros: Great Food, great servers, excellent wine list Cons: Tables are very close together, beer list could be expanded a tad more
