I have decided that the reason why I can't find more reviews about dinner at Marche is because those in the know don't want anyone else to know. When my friend suggested it, I ...

If you like Rudeness......This is where you need to be.. 7/12/2007

I first visited Marche' for my birthday as a gift from a friend-and I loved it. I planned to visit the restaurant often, the prices were affordable and the food was great. I visited the establishment the next week and it was awful. The server was rude and not very attentive. I order a dessert that was absolutely awful, it seemed to have been cooked days before it was serve-in turn I advised the waiter that I did not want it and was it possible to get something else. He had already brought the ticket and seemed to be very upset that he had to charge me .75 more cent for the difference in the price of the dessert. It seemed to me that the dessert was so old that they could spot me the 75 cent for the inconvience but they did not. As if that was not bad enough about the ticket the waiter then snatched the plate out of my hand to take back the hardened rock they called blondie. It took longer to get the dessert than to get my actual main course. The server then sent someone else to bring it to me but he followed within seconds to bring the check. We paid the check and proceeded out of the restaurant. We were then abruptly chased out of the restaurant by the General Manager. She wanted to know if everything was okay and we said yes. She then proceeds to tell us that our tip did not indicate that everything was okay. We gave a tip of 14% of the whole ticket-etiquette clearly states that you tip 15% of the price of the food not on drinks, so if we tipped 14% of the total ticket I know we were okay. I have never been disrespected in such a way. We have complained to the restaurant but no response has been given. I am telling everyone I know that if unless you want to be treated poorly do not set foot in there door. I commend the cooks because they are keeping the place open because if it was up the wait staff the place would have closed before they even opened. For a bunch of people who try to be the upper crest they surely don't know much about etiquette. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!! more

amazing, seriously, anyone who says otherwise is crazy..... 6/24/2007

ok. i live within walking distance of marche'. i am obsessed with it and eat there wayyy more than i should, probably 3-4 times a week. if you go around lunch and opt to get a sandwich, order a side of their ""apricot chutney"" they may say they don't have it, but ask for what was on the benton's country ham sandwich. IT WILL MAKE YOUR SANDWICH THE TASTIEST THING YOU'VE EVER HAD IN YOUR LIFE. this is serious. write that down....apri-cot chut-ney....amazing. every waiter/waitress is fun and friendly and ready to help you in any way...i really love it...also i see famous people sometimes if you're into that sort of thing.....anyway, it's awesome...i eat there enough to know. it's consistently delicious/amazing/fun/relatively inexpensive Pros: food, waitstaff, ambience, parking Cons: sometimes the bill...but not usually more

Great food, great atmosphere 4/16/2007

We went to Marche two weekends ago for brunch. The restaurant was crowded and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, but it was well worth it. The quaint atmosphere and decor made the wait more enjoyable. We were pretty hungry when we sat down, so we ordered several dishes and shared them all. Our server was pleasant and offered his recommendations. The omlette was delicious and the crepes were to die for. We also tried several other smaller items and all were incredible. I would recommend anyone go to Marche, but make sure you're not in a hurry because it's not a big place and it fills up fast. I don't venture into East Nashville much, but I will for Marche! Pros: great food, good service, quaint atmosphere Cons: crowded, tables somewhat close more

Simply fantastic. 3/9/2007

I've had issues with the fancier Cafe Margot but they get every single thing right at Marche. I recently had creamed chicken for lunch here and I almost burst into tears because it was SO right for the rainy, cool day. And here was this plate of delicious creamed chicken and toasted baguette....oh, dear. I wanted to stay all day and keep eating it until they closed.\r \r I like the room, I like that it's bustling without being panicky, I like that I can choose to have waiter-service or self-service, I like that it's inexpensive, I like that it's delicious. It's just like eating in a medium-sized French town, only you get the added benefit of being able to keep an eye on Hunter's Auto as well. I love this place. And I'm a difficult person, so that's saying something.\r \r If I had to say anything negative, I'd say that the ""market"" selection is borderline anemic. Expensive oatmeal and Nutella. Eh. They have the space; there should be more.\r \r But I love the restaurant part. LOVE. Love.\r \r Pros: Fantastic flavor, lovely room Cons: Practically none more

Margot-quality food at Bongo Java prices 1/24/2007

OK, so EVERY new restaurant has some start-up pains, and it takes more than one bad experience to sour me on a restaurant. Thankfully, that policy is irrelevant since, unlike the previous reviewer, my partner, best friend and myself had a GREAT first experience at Marche last Saturday.\r \r We arrived at around 12:30 and the place was full, but not crammed; we lucked up and caught someone leaving and sat right down. Our server was friendly and attentive, and best of all knew the menu well enough to be able to make accurate recommendations. We started out with a bowl of the soup du jour (veg. white bean) and the artisanal cheese plate which arrived promptly, in just the right size portions, and were delicious. The blood-orange mimosas were an ever-so-slightly upscale version of the familiar brunch-time favorite, and good enough that we had two each.\r \r Main courses were the omlettes du jour (mushroom and mozarella) for two of us and the crepes du jour (salmon) for myself. All arrived freshly prepared, perfectly seasoned and portioned just right to fill, but not stuff.\r \r When the check arrived, it turned out to be one of the better non-Waffle House brunches we'd shared in a while. ;-)\r \r On top of the great in-house food, the store also features some fairly hard to find grocery items (for those of us who don't live next door to Wild Oats) like stone-cut oatmeal and one of my personal favorite little luxuries, Nutella (a European chocolate hazelnut butter.) WOOHOO!!!!\r \r We'll be back!!! Pros: Unique dishes, grocery items, great service Cons: Too many ""du jours"" to be able to try them all! more

Will NEVER recommend to ANYONE 1/22/2007

First of all, I always try to support new businesses in East Nashville and appreciate their efforts. Needless to say, when I heard that Margot's (possibly my favorite restaurant in all of Nashville) was opening a sister restaurant I was thrilled! \r However, disappointed does not even begin to describe how I felt last weekend eating breakfast at Marche. The horrible service and bad attitude was almost unbelievable! After an entire conversation about how much we love the artisan cheese and bread plate, the waitress forgot to bring it out. One of our guest finally flagged down the waitress for a refill of coffee... she filled only that one of the three cups then walked off not to be seen again until the meal was over. I ordered the quiche du jore which is normally fantastic, however this time it came with what looked like paint on the crust. Marche management explained it was probably part of the pan that had come off. Management then asked if I would like something else so I ordered the cheese plate... again. Apparently they wanted us out of there at that point and served the cheese plate to me in a plastic ""to go"" box. We asked the waitress why she erved the main course of my breakfast in the plastic container only to have the box snatched from the table and the manager to snap ""For God sakes, I have another up front"" \r \r I have never been treated so rudely, received such horrible service or felt worse about giving someone my hard earned money. As I said ealier, Margot's may be my favorite restaurant in all of Nashville, but because of how poorly I was treated last weekend I will probably never go to her restaurant and will certainly never step foot in the artisan bakery again. Pros: Convenient location, Nice renovation for East Nashville Cons: Service, Attitude, Selection more

Over Rated 12/5/2006

My friend told me that this was a great little place, but I did not find it to be so enjoyable. If you like listening to a bell being rang repeatedly while your trying to enjoy your cold soup ( i think it was supposed to be warm?) However, if you like a snotty crowd and an overpriced menu this place might be for you! Pros: Not many Cons: Everything more

Best place to eat lunch in Nashville, reasonably priced, high quality fresh ingredients 12/2/2006

It is so refreshing to have a reasonably priced meal that is delicious. My experience was ideal from the service to the food. Our waiter was attentive but not too attentive and eager to recommend items on the menu. (you can tell when a waitperson really likes the food) I had the soup of the day which was a delightful potato leek. I ate the autumn salad and my friend had the crepes. My salad was piled high with roasted fall vegetables and topped with shaved parmesan. My friend commented that her crepes were some of the best she's ever eaten. For dessert we shared the almond bread pudding. Yummmmmm! I can still remember the taste and how the creme anglaise was the perfect consistancy with bits of vanilla bean. This is my favorite place to eat lunch. By the way, I don't live in east Nashville. I can't wait to try breakfast. I took home the granola and I'm addicted to it! more
