After many years of debating whether I should have LASIK surgery, I decided that I would take a leap of faith, and have it done. Like many people, the idea of any kind of manipulation on the eyes was a deterrent. However, through the years of being burdened with eye glasses and recurrent eye infections, I decided that it was time to find a highly reputable and renowned ophthalmologist.From the moment I stepped into Dr. Mandel's office, I was greeted by his warm and professional staff. Prior to my LASIK procedure, I was given unbelievably comprehensive preoperative ophthalmic tests to ensure that I was a candidate for the procedure. Dr. Mandel demonstrated his prudent approach to gauge if I was a good candidate rather than indiscriminately doing the procedure. I was so relieved that I was in good shape even though I was concerned that my astigmatism would be an issue in which I would be turned down.There is no doubt that I made one of the best decisions of my life. I received the PRK procedure from Dr. Mandel in 2011. Three months later, I am extremely satisfied with the results. As PRK does have a longer recovery period than LASIK, Dr. Mandel was clear about how every stage of the recovery process would unfold. He has an incredible staff that is very available, and when I called with generic treatment questions that a staff person could also have answered, Dr. Mandel very often came to the phone himself. My results are superior; after having a 9.5 contact prescription, I'm now at 20/15 vision in both eyes. I received a strong recommendation from a family member to use Dr. Mandel, despite the fact that the cost might be a bit higher than a generic clinic. The importance of this procedure means I wanted to find a doctor whose methodology and results were impeccable, and I know that Dr. Mandel is part of that small class. more
