I initially chose Maiden Voyage because they carried the designers I liked. I was in a rush to buy a dress, so I went with the first dress that looked good on me.
I've paid the price ever since. My fiance and I are both active duty Air Force officers and we had to move our wedding date up due to upcoming deployments, hence the need to buy off the rack. Once I decided on a dress to purchase, the sales staff acted as if they were doing me a favor by selling me a sample from last season's collection - which they tried to pull of as a brand new design, and they charged me full price (about $400 more than every other place I later found on the internet). Since they charged me full price for a sample, I requested a military discount. They declined but offered free alterations. Alterations are usually expensive so I felt this was fair.
Until I had the alterations. Since the dress was a sample and had obviously been tried on by numerous other customers it needed pressing, etc. I specifically asked if the puckering/wrinkles would come out with pressing and was told the dress would look perfect once it was altered and pressed. They lied.
I've taken the dress to other bridal salons and all have confirmed what I suspected - the dress was stitched that way and there's no way to make the layers lay flat as they should. Maiden Voyage has a ""no refunds, no returns policy"" and would not take responsibility for selling me a defective dress.
The time I have to mess around with all of this is limited, so I decided to suck it up and make the best of the situation. Then yesterday, as I took the dress to another salon to have it pressed AGAIN (the ""job"" Maiden Voyage did was ludicrous but they are 1 hour from my house and I wanted to be rid of them as soon as possible), we discovered the veil they ordered and gave me was the wrong color. Now keep in mind, I specifically asked Maiden Voyage about the color when I picked everything up, and they assured me it was correct and it was the lighting in the store that had me concerned. Wrong. It's the wrong color. I ordered ivory and my $200+ veil is diamond white. I'm getting married in 3 days.
So off we go to Maiden Voyage today. This should be fun. Bottom line: I received forceful, bad customer service. The staff lied about the currency of the dress and the alterations. Everything was overpriced. The alterations were sub-par. They ordered and gave me they wrong color veil and then lied about it right there in the store. At one point, I was ready to sell this dress on E-Bay and start all over, but I still would have had to buy off the rack so I decided not to.
Don't patronize this store if you would like an enjoyable experience shopping for one of the most important things you'll ever buy.
Pros: They sell dresses
