RUDE OWNER! 7/6/2011

I have been going here for a year and a half for toys and cuts for about a year. The owner has been rude to me one way or another every time I have seen her. Is short, not helpful, turns her back on me when I'm asking her a question, has had me wait in line 10 minutes while chatting to a friend, talks on the phone rolling her eyes at customers comments. Really unacceptable and I finally just had to say something online. Ive never even written a review but I don't feel that people should continue to keep her in business. Go to Mini Max on Atlantic. It's well worth t trip and they are nice to you. Wow! What a concept. Be nice to the customer! more

Stay Away. Incompetent Staff. Unfriendly and Rude Owner 7/2/2011

Worst experience ever. I was a regular in this store for almost 7 years. One day in september I brought my daughter in for a haircut and she was quickly dismissed from the chair. The sytlist informed me that the reason was because she thought my daughter had lice (which I found out later was not the case.) As I was ready to leave, the owner Bridgette informed me that I ""it is best I leave as soon as possible"" and she escorted me and my daughter out of the place like we had the plague. We felt like criminals the way we were abrubtly thrown of the store. The worst part was explaining what happened to my then 7 year old. I can't believe that a hair salon that specializes in children would not be more sensitive and adept in handling situations of this kind. They should also have information handy for the treatments of such issues. Instead they just throw people out. It seems that they could benefit in training their staff to tell the difference between lice and ordinary dry scalp (which is what I found out to be the case for my daughter after taking her to another salon that specialized in children. ) Lulus has lost my business for ever. I would say that, before this event occured, I easily dropped $1000 there over the years. Now I get my child's hair cut by a real professional stylist. When you think about it, any hairstylist that is worth anything would not work in a place that sells toys too. For haircuts I recommend Lucas from brooklyn (check him out on Yelp) He comes to your house. For toys I now go to Kidding Around in Manhattan. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this amateur show. more

coolll 11/28/2010

My niece Brianna came to visit me for the weekend and she was in desperate need of a haircut, but the minute she heard the phrase she started to freak out.The place is absolutely amazing! A friend of mine told me about this even though it was a little out of my way, I decided to check it out. Well, let me just tell you ..trying to get my niece out of there was more difficult than trying to get her to go in!!! The haircut was super coollll Julianna the stylist she did a good job . My niece can't wait to visit me again just so she can get her haircut here! PS. I am DEFINITELY the favorite aunt now :) more

Best Haircut! Best Toys! Friendly Staff! 9/15/2010

My son finally got the Best Haircut. We tried several other places and LuLu's by far is the place to go! There is a train table to play with while you wait and a beautiful and thoughtful selection of toys. LuLu's has also opened a resale shop down the street and this was too, an awesome discovery and experience! more

Awesome Place! 5/30/2010

I've heard of this place for the last 6 months but my dd's hair was not long enough. We finally made an appointment and it was a great experience. The stylist listened our request and gave him the best haircut. We received a 1st Haircut certificate, a balloon, and a lollipop. My husband was so impressed with the haircut that he jumped in the chair himself. $40 for Dad and son! The best deal of the year. And a perfect birthday gift for a two year olds birthday party all in one place. Thank You LuLu's! Pros: Best Hair Cuts and Selection of Toys A++Staff Cons: Getting your child to leave! more

Horrible service, rude hairdresser 1/8/2010

I went in to Lulu's for my son's first haircut. I explained to the hairdresser that I would like to have my son's hair evened out with a small trim. My son has very curly hair, that is difficult to comb through (you can only do this when wet) and when I questioned the hairdresser on this she said that they don't wash childrens hair, just wet it. She proceeded to use a spray bottle to wet down the hair and just started chopping out any part that was tangling and she couldn't comb through easily. Now my child is biracial and his hair (as I informed her) cannot be combed through without it being wet. When I questioned her about this she just dismissed it and said his hair was very dry (once again, hello lady, that's his hair type!) and it needed to be cut. Well, long story short she took his long hair that just needed trimmed to a boring cut very quickly. I am so sad because he was constantly getting compliments on his beautiful hair. Her response when I told her that I was unhappy was that it will grow out. Oh----no balloon, no toy, no certificate. She did give the woman who cashed us out a small baggy of his hair. She had her coat on and was out of the door before we even had paid. TERRIBLE FIRST CUT EXPERIENCE---WHAT A SHAME!! Cons: poor service, didn't listen to requests, quick rushed job more

Watch out for 'stylist' Nellie 8/31/2009

2 Time Winner Best Kids Hair Salon in Time Out Kids NY! 5/30/2006

I am Brigitte the owner, although I really appreciate a phone call from customers who have not received the best customer service and or haircuts at LuLu's, I don't appreciate this. Nellie has been cutting hair at LuLu's for 6 years and she gives a damn good haircut. We see all kinds of kids with all hair types. Our goal is to give the best haircut and customer service, otherwise I would not be in business. It is very important that small children with very curly hair come to LuLu's with their hair already combed through, otherwise it will not be a very happy experience for them. We spray their hair with water and always add leave in conditioner. We have spent over 30 minutes on some occasions getting dreads out of a child's hair, but I don't recommend putting a child 4 and under through that process. Everyone getting a haircut or just visiting LuLu's gets a balloon. We also offer free lollipops and a 1st Haircut Certificate. Pros: spacious, great transportation, friendly Cons: Your child won't want to leave more

tiny place, unexperienced hair master 9/2/2005

The haircut was expensive and not worth it, it took 35 minutes for the stylist to cut his hair and she did a poor job, the bangs were cut not straight, on the back of the head in wavy line. Will never go there again. Pros: unusual toys, big selection of toys Cons: unexperienced, expensive, tiny place more

great toys & experienced staff 1/15/2003

I would highly reccomend Lulu's to anyone who has ever fought with a child over a hair cut. The first time we went, my son cried but soon got over it, distracted by the great toy selection, video games and movies. He came out with balloons, a lolipop and a great haircut! We've gotten many compliments, and my son begs me to go back. Pros: great with kids, wonderful selection Cons: can get crowded more
