A local Deli is moving. 9/11/2011

The Saturday night selection was good. The coffee that was ordered was delicious. The waitress was about average. The food was good BUT, I had come for something else. I guess I'll make another trip and get the menu item I crave.A long ride just to eat but, over all it was worth the time and effort more

Prejudice! 2/15/2011

There was NOTHING lucky for us as people of color at the Lucky Dill. In fact, we never received service. After 15 mins of sitting, watching people coming in and being waited on we decided to leave. \r However, to be fair, we asked for the manager, who took another 8 mins to come forward. She apologized and offered to give us her best waiter! By this time, 20 mins of our lives wasted, ""a good waiter"" was not an option. We asked if they serve BLACK PEOPLE"". Don't remember an answer, but didn't want us to think that. We left. Not a good feeling. Maybe they will rethink and realize money is green regardless of who pays with it!! more

Amazing! 2/3/2010

Lucky Dill is absolutely amazing! They offer the best dishes, very creative, and give the tons of food. I love Lucky Dill and would eat there everyday if I didn't live in NC. I would highly recommend Lucky Dill! Pros: The best food! Tons of food! more

Great Place 11/30/2009

I love this place. It has been one of my favourite resturaunts for many years and feel that it is a shame that so many people dislike this place. I have had some so-so service there, but if you look at the amount of people these kids serve you too might be a little miffed. I LOVE the swiss steak and I find the prices to be quite resonable for the amount of food you get. I have NEVER finished a sandwich at this place! The Lucky Dill has been in our community for many years now and I hope that it continues to be so. Pros: Love the Swiss Steak, great people, portions huge more

A trip back to my childhood 11/15/2009

I am not from New York nor am I from Jewish background but I am next best. I was born and raised in Miami Beach by my mom who is from the old country, Bavaria. She was brought over to NY and employed by a Jewish family who owned a hotel. They transplanted to Miami Beach and my mom learned to cook authentic kosher cuisine. My dad, well, let's just call him Ricky Ricardo.....Mom always cooked my family kosher food.....and we loved it. Weekends were spent on Miami Beach, specifically, Wolfie's on 21 st......the famous gathering place of all the jewish population in Miami! New York style deli/restaurant for decades! Now....10 years ago I moved to the Tampa Bay area and I never thought I'd come even close to a place like Wolfie's, yet this past weekend I stumbled into the Lucky Dill to get away from the Ironman event where I recently moved to in Palm Harbor. What a delight! It was Wolfie's all over again!\r Parking can be a problem. I was lucky that at 9 am I found the last spot in front....also construction next door in the plaza blocked off lots of otherwise available parking. \r I came in for breakfast at 9 am, I ordered my favorite: cheese blintzes! Complimentary banana bread with citrus butter came out almost immediately with a complimentary carafe of OJ. Coffee was excellent. And when the blintzes arrived! I was in heaven. 5 cheese blinzes stuffed with romanoff cheese, strawberry preserves and sour cream AND fresh sliced strawberries. I was sitting right next to the bakery case and while I waited, my mouth watered for the pastries....when the blintzes arrived...THAT problem was solved.\r It was very filling and I had to take 1/2 of it home. Now, I went in for breakfast and the reason I went in the first place was because my neighbor, who is from Minnesota saw a sign for Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds. They were not available for lunch....so we did the breakfast thing. He was disappointed so he just had a Bloody Mary. They have a full liquor bar on Saturday mornings!\r I can't wait to go back on the weekend for lunch! \r Pros: Cheese blintzes are wonderful. Bakery very tempting. Full li Cons: Parking is a problem. more

HYPED UP 10/31/2009

THEY HYPED UP THIS PLACE, THEY DONT HAVE CLUB BREAD, CANT GET A CORN BEFF ON CLUB, KNISHES WERE HORRIBLE, AND HOT DOGS ARE MADE TO ORDER, THIS IS NO WAY A JEWISH DELI LIKE WE SEE UP NORTH, IS ANYONE GOING TO OPEN A REAL JEWISH KOSHER DELI Pros: PASTRAMI Cons: THEY DONT HAVE CLUB BREAD more

Great Food , Lousy Service 9/22/2009

I came to this restaurant expecting to get a great meal with great service at an excellent price. Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad. The food was exquisite , but I have recieved better service at McDonald's on a busy Saturday night. They will not EVER have to worry about me or any of my friends and family darkening their doorstep again. This was my first and definately my last time at this establishment. Pros: Best fried fish I have ever eaten Cons: Food Service is slow and unfriendly more

Great 8/23/2009

Just came back from Lucky Dill. Our waitress, Mallary gave us excellent attentive and helpful service. She recommended the braised lamb shank and we were not disappointed. I requested a caffeine free/diet drink and she was very helpful in steering me in the right direction with that. \r \r She also advised us that if we ordered a drink with our meal we would receive a free dessert. I am all about the cheesecake and just loved it. \r \r The food was excellent and the service was even better.\r \r We will definitely be back more

nothing like NY 7/18/2009

the service stinks but the food is ok. when my husband asked for a take out menu they gave him an attitude and they could of been better on the phone when I ordered my food. Pros: the rye bread is good Cons: the prices are crazy more

Lot of Food no flavour 1/29/2009

The sandwiches looked big and great...one cannot wait to take the first bite but what a disappointment...there was no flavour...nothing like the old NY deli taste that one goes back and back to. Their morning danish is very large and you say wow..about 6 inches in diameter...I had blueberry...what a disappointment again no flavour. Had corn beef and cabbage and carrots and red potatoes. I can cook corn beef better...no flavour...cabbage was under cooked..the knife was dull and could not cut it. The carrots were mushy and no flavour. They seem to think that by giving a big or a lot is great but i would go for smaller portions and food prepared with the right seasoning. They cover it up by giving you a free piece of cheese cake...by the way the cheese cake was good. It was busy but once you go you will not go back again.\r more

Not A Nice Place To Eat 12/30/2008

We went there today 12/30 .. The food was ok. but the service was terrible .. Had to wait along time to get waited on. Then we asked for napkins and we waited so long i had to get up and get them my self. After the meal, we all used rest rooms. The ladies room was filthy. Dirty toilet tissues all over the floor and nothing to wipe our hands with, i didn't even use the toilet i was afraid it was not very clean. I heard the men's room was no better, My husband said it was a good thing he stood because he would sit on their toilets, thats how dirty it was in there. If the bathrooms aren't clean how clean do you think the cooking area is???? They better be glad i am not the Board of Health eating there. I do not reccomend this place to any one.. more

Great food, service and prices 10/16/2008

I heard about the resaurant in a chatroom and was very surprised at the quanity, quality, service and price. I read a review from a southern lady and I truly feel sorry for her. I would highly reccomend this restaurant. Brough 1/2 sandwich home. Not Southern style hospitality but very friendly nothern hospitality. So if you don't like it its your loss and Southern hospitality is hard to find anymore. I speak as a retired trucker with many miles behind me\r Anyway Go there enjoy the food Pros: Thumbs up on everything more

LUCKY DILLS, not so lucky or good any longer! 10/8/2008

used to be NYC Lucy Dills, I have been going for years, about AUGUST, it slipped off the face of the earth. Bring back the good food. John Powers signing off. I did see Sara Palin choke on a pickle, and I laughed my butt off! She is george w with a skirt! Pros: nice looking waitresses Cons: fatty and overpriced food more

NEW YORK NEW YORK ""u found it"" corned beef pastrami and cheesecake wonderland 9/16/2008

This is the best deli south of 212. They closed the Rascal house in Miami so now this is my favorite. I love the free Matzoh ball soup days and my favorite sandwhich is corned beef pastrami and chopped liver on marble rye. Spicy mustard and Kosher dill a must. Fish fry on Fridays is the best deal in town. You wont leave hungry and it wont cost more than 12-15 per person max. Waitresses are sometimes a little short, but its new york aint it. If youre looking to go to a quiet romantic restaurant this aint it either. The romance here is the cacaphony of a new york city symphony of Loud people, waitresses, phones, music, characters, and more. the only thing you don't hear is the horns of the cabbies. Amaze yourself in this Mecca of steaming lunchmeat!!! and bring me a Knish while youre at it. I'm Home!!!! Pros: food, ambience, food, value, fooooood!!!!!! Cons: Needing a diet when youre done! more

terrible salad 8/22/2008

I had a taste for salad in a tacco shell, was happy to find it on the menu. When my salad\r arrived, there were a few tortilla chips on the salad, the tomatoes looked like they were\r cut days ago, the chicken was dry and tough. The waitress told me they must have been \r out of tacco shells. Would have been nice to let me know, so I could have ordered something\r else. The waitress didn't seem to care that most of my salad was left on the plate.\r Very disapointed, will not go. more

The truth about Lucky DIll 8/1/2008

I have been going to Lucky Dill for about 11 yrs now, my parents started taking me there when I was about 12 yrs old. We have always had great food and I have tried almost everything on the menu (including all the pastrys and chessecake) The food is so good I started taking people from work there and clients who are visiting and no one has ever been dissapointed. The service varies over time and that has to do with the are, when it started all the employees were older and is was more like a mom and pop diner then a deli, once they moved to where they are now it started to feel more like a deli and it became so busy that many high schoolers began working there. If you go during lunch you will almost for sure have better service because the kids who work there are in school and even though lunch time is busy it does not compare to dinner. If you want to talk over dinner this is not the place to go it gets very loud but it is a lot of fun to see everyone having a good time and joking around. I almost always get my dinner to go and I am never dissapointed about that either, it is always just as good as eating there (and you can not say that about a lot of places). The prices are more then fair for what you get, I think it is the best deal around for a sit down meal, now the pastrys might seem a little expensive but there all worth it and here's a tip if your going to buy more then one piece of cheescake just go ahead and order a mini cheescake it is about the same price as two single slices and you can get 4 huge slices or 8 small slices out of it. They dont always have the mini cheescakes on display at the pastry counter but if you ask for one they will get it for you. Overall I really do enjoy this place it is not fancy by any standards and you may only see your server two to three times but you cant beat the food or the price. Pros: Great food all the time Cons: packed all the time more

Management is awful 7/8/2008

I have been going to the Lucky Dill for years. Slowly things are getting worse. I see a lot of the same faces working there but it is like everyone hates life. I had an issue with my meal the last time I was there and one of the female servers that said she was the manager came to my table. She was awful. Everything she said sounded phony. We weren't looking for anything extra, just wanted to make them aware of our issue so it wouldn't happen to others. We could tell that as soon as she turned around she was rolling her eyes and trashing us to one of the other male servers. I still enjoy the food but if I have another instance like this one, I’m not likely to return. more

Do not order Big Apple Martini Drinks (they sure aren't big). 2/10/2008

I have been going to Lucky Dill for more than 4 years. Until 4 months ago I felt that I was getting a good bargain during the early bird specials. However, things changed for the worse. Now the food does not come in a timely manner. When extra fish is ordered with the meal, it doesn't come until I am ready to go home. It always came about ten minutes after I ordered it. What has happened? Also, I have been having a Big Apple Martini on those nights. The first ones came in a big glass and were filled to about a half inch from the top. Over the last four months, the drinks have been shrinking. When I questioned the server this last Friday, the manager came over to our table (which was sandwiched between two other couples) and exclaimed that after a ""big meeting"" it was determined that the servers were over filling the glasses. This week the drinks didn't even come up to an inch below the rim. If they are going to serve a martini in a big glass I think it should be filled up. Why don't they serve it in a smaller glass and make that one full. I also noticed that when ketchup was requested, it was brought to the table in a tiny paper cup (enough for about a dozen fries). Where are the bottles of ketchup on the tables? more
