I bought a Yorkie and found out later she had parvovirus. I had to bring her back, though she was soooo cute it broke my heart. I don't wish this on anybody. I wish I had been ...

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!! 8/28/2008

I visited Laughlin Kennels 2 months ago to see a French Bulldog puppy. I would reccomend talking to other Breeders/Kennels before purchasing from Laughlin. I'd read the negative reviews here on this site prior to driving over an hour to see this dog at Laughlin Kennel. I figured there were more good reviews than bad, so I'd have to give them the benefit of the doubt & check it out for myself - big mistake. When I walked in there was one employee there wearing hospital scrubs...she was sweet, but wasn't very knowledgable at all, and couldnt have been a day over 20 (although i could be wrong). I thought it odd that they'd have only one person working in the office ; I thought it unprofessional that they did not have a staff member on hand that could actually anwswer some questions-most of them fairly general. Do they NOT want to make the sale??? After several unanswered questions, we met the puppy. He was covered in ""hot spots"", one eye ball was bloodshot, and had a very rough coat. I looked at his medical records and he had kennell cough, & was bought PRIOR ,and returned! This dog was all over the place, as if he he'd been cooped up for hours. We left empty handed. The kicker was this : Laughlin (upon my request) provided the name of the breeder they'd bought him from. ONE GOOGLE name seach later , I had pages of horrifying information about the couple that sold Laughlin this puppy. Two words : PUPPY MILL. This woman and her husband have been ranked in the ""Top Ten Worst puppy dealers in Oklahoma"". Fines, USDA violations, complaints, etc- the works. I find it hard to believe that Laughlin didnt know about these people. I asked them If they knew about this and if the dealers had shaped up since they'd been fined- Laughlin responded by basically telling me they felt the reviews I'd read looked fake. COME AGAIN? Shouldnt the responce have been one of concern? Shock even? It's hard to believe Laughlin was unaware of all this. \r In the end it's the puppy who suffers. Pros: EMPLOYEES ARE FRIENDLY Cons: THEY'RE BUYING FROM PUPPY MILLS more

Great customer service, Nice healthy Pups, easy to shop website 8/20/2008

We had recently lost our beloved family dog after 13 yrs.. We missed her and found our home to not be the same without a dog. I was browsing the Internet and came across the Laughlin Kennel website. The website is beautiful and you can clearly see that the pups are well cared for. We found several pups we were interested in and I called for an appointment. We found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions and we never felt rushed. We spent over an hour picking our new pup. We looked at five different pups. The young lady helping us brought them back down stairs one at a time until we had it narrowed down to our Golden girl ""Betty White"".We took Betty to the vet when we first got her and he said she was a fine healthy pup. Well it has been a year since we brought her home. We have had a vet bill or two but that is part of owning a dog. We recently sent a note to Laughlin and their staff to say thank for making it possible to have our Betty to love. She is truly a member of our family. Pros: healthy well cared for pups, Excellent website Cons: they could use more space more

Laughlin pups 8/7/2008

We just got our little Zuchon ,Ollie Aug 3 2008 We found the kennel to be a good as any. I swore I would not get a designer pup after having two Golden Ret. for the last 13 years but I am not as young as I was and they do take a lot of work .Ollie is very healthy (he saw vet next day) as were most of the dogs we saw. I did not see this as a puppie mill \r but more as a broker . I have seen mills and dogs did not look like these guys.\r As for where they keep them in basement as some said this was where they kept them for viewing . I feel for the people that lost there new love but this can happen from the best of breeders and if your gut tells you he may be not too healthy DON""T BUY HIM . I did feel a little rushed but there were only two people working (Sunday) and we had settled on only a few pups from the web site, as luck would have it Ollie was one . Pros: Thought all dogs we saw were very healthy Cons: Small viewing area more

Sick puppies 7/30/2008

I have a 4yr old that wanted a puppy so we went to Laughlin Kennel. We met our Schnoodle(Pixie) and fell in love. From the day we got her home something didn't seem rite about this puppy. A few days go buy she's dropping to the floor and can't even hold her head up. I got her better through a sugar rush. She was ok for the night. Next day it happened again. We go to the e.r. They ran tests and said she had coccidia, and possibly pneumonia again. She was supposedly all better from that when I got her. The er wanted to admit her for for 800-1200 1st night and 300-500 every night after. That was crazy. So, the next day I brought her back to Laughlin Kennel because they said they would get her better for me and see their vet. The employees are very nice but they are not vets. She lasted for 6 days before she died. I had to tell my 4 yr old that Pixie had to go live with her mommy but wants us to meet her best friend. Brilliant me I get another puppy thinking I just had the unfortunate luck to get a sick puppy. Two days with the 2nd puppy back at the vet because she's sneezing and hacking. I get a prescription for an upper respiratory infection, coccidia (again),and kennel cough. Less than a week later my puppy is still not better. Back to the vets and she has and had pneumonia. She is now being hospitalized with my vet because I want to make sure I get her back. I have already racked up 1100.00 in two weeks on two puppies and this one just got admitted today. Go figure. I just edited my my comment today due to the fact that a woman called me from Laughlin Kennel with great concearn and sympathy for my situation and for the puppies. She was extremely nice just like everyone else I have dealt with. All I need to say is she is doing rite for my family and new puppy. Thank you Laughlin Kennel for your understanding. Pros: very friendly staff Cons: sick puppies more

My little wheaten is prefect! 7/29/2008

It has been 3 weeks since we purchased our wheaten pup from Laughlin Kennel. She passed her first two vet visits with excellent remarks from our vet. We could not be happier. She is just prefect! Pros: Lovely staff. They were extremely helpful. Cons: I'm happy to report that I encounter none of those! more

Clean Kennel 7/28/2008

My husband and I have been thinking about getting a dog from Laughlin Kennels. We have just had a hard time deciding what breed, as they are all so adorable. We have made a few trips to the kennel to look at dogs. In our visits we have always encountered friendly staff and clean facilities. None of the dogs we have seen appear to be sick or mistreated. My husband and I look forward to the day we FINALLY decide which dog to take home with us. Pros: Clean, Healthy Dogs Cons: a bit of a drive more

Laughlin Kennels does NOT abuse or mistreat animals!! 7/15/2008

I worked for Laughlin Kennels when I was 16 and jrsj1170's report does not sound like the LK that I know. When I worked at LK the animals were well looked after certainly not abused. Knowing the owners that has not and will not change. I remember them giving the local fire dept a dalmatian to live with them. I know that these are caring people that do not lie and will never abuse an animal ever. Laughlin Kennels is a great place to find a pet. Please do not rely on negative posts about LK they just are NOT true. more

Great Poodle Mixes! 6/18/2008

I've bought 3 pups from Laulin Kennel in the past 15 years. I remember buying our first dog from inside their kitchen. These 3 dogs have been the joys of my life and I thank God for them every night. The kennel has grown in size, but its the same great business its always been. Pros: Friendly staff, great customer service more

Lack of caring, extremely unhelpful and sensitive 6/17/2008

We purchased a puggle, puppy from LK in June of 2006. She was a little older and had not been sold because of a case of kennel cough. We went to see her, we were only allowed to play with her for 10 minutes before she was scooped up and we were asked to make a decision. We could tell she needed a loving home, and clearly seemed neglected so of course we took her to get her out of there. Not 3 months later in September, we noticed she was experiencing symptoms of what can only be described as as stroke-like, after going to the vet and the emergency room with her, we were told that she with almost 100% certainity had pug encephalitis, a CONGENITAL neuro-immune disorder. Despite LKs statement that they will give a reimbursement or replace to puppy if there is a congential disease, they refused to help us, and even stopped returning our phone calls. We had offered a note from the vet and/or the ER, but they refused to accept it and honor their agreement. Luckily she recovered from her seizure and has not had any since. After going through this, we then ran into another problem about 10 months later (not even a year after we purchased her) we found out to our surprise, that despite the fact they told us she was spayed, she was not. When we contacted them, they insisted that they never spayed or neuter any of their puppies and it was our problem, despite we have a statement on paper saying she was. They again were not helpful, and we were told to stop calling them. Unfortunately there is no action for us to take against them, expect to help educate others about their unwillingness to stand behind their contracts. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything else!!! more

Nice, clean, and healthy puppies 6/11/2008

I was pleased with the puppies I saw at laughlin Kennel. They were clean, healthy, and happy animals. I personally purchased a yellow lab. Honestly, he is the smartest dog I've ever owned. I couldn't be happier with him. I recommend this kennel to anyone looking for a pet. Pros: Great staff and puppies more

Puggle Power 6/8/2008

My family purchased a puggle puppy at Lauflin kennel almost a year ago, and are in the process of buying another. ""Spunky"" has been a great dog and my experience with the kennel has been nothing but helpful. We would highly recomend lauflin kennel to anyone looking for a puggle and hope ""PorkChop"" is as great a dog as ""Spunky"" is. Pros: Thumbs up for excellent hours. more

Lots of Dogs - great pets 6/5/2008

Laughlin Kennel has fantastic dogs. They're spunky and healthy and full of life. We bought an amazing yorkie pup and she's fantastic. We named her Ella...after a famous muscian. I've read a lot of these reviews and I'm amazed at how greedy some of these folks are. If they offer to take the puppy back within 14 days for a full refund how can you refuse that? 14 days is a long time and most illnesses develop before that. The other issue that people have is that Laughlin doesn't pay for vet bills - but did you read the contract? It's stated very plainly. It's understandable that you've lost a puppy and you're emotional - if Ella died my wife and I would be sad too - these things happen to living creatures. It's amazing how many great reviews of Laughlin there are - the sad thing is that only the bad reviewers are the most vocal! Well let me say that LK is an amazing place, they care about the puppies they sell and they're invested in making sure their customers are happy, they wouldn't be in business otherwise. My hope is that you will read this and give them a chance if you're going to buy a puppy - you won't be disappointed!!\r Pros: Lots of pets Cons: parking... more

A Real customer - went there after reading reviews.. got a mini dachshund there- READ! Informative! 5/30/2008

So after the dachshund from a breeder i wanted was sold the night before I was going to visit, I was really disheartened and wanted to at least look at some puppies. Prior to conversing with the breeder, I had happened upon Laughlin Kennel's website. I checked it out a few times, browsed the dachshunds, and to my surprise saw a gorrrrgeous dapple girl. I figured it was at least worth looking although i feared it was probably a puppy mill that supplied the dogs. I arrived there and it was busy, a bit rushed feeling, with a small office to view the dogs. I was surprised that the dogs i saw out anda bout were lively, except for my little dachshund. My heart melted and against my best intution I got her. I brought her to the vets 2 days later after reading the horror story reviews, and to my surprise, despite being grossly malnourished (poor thing was only 2.4 lbs at 11 weeks!) she was otherwise healthy. Two weeks later, my little girl is almost up tot 3 lbs and the vet says shes the most gorgeous dachshund he's seen. She didn't get kennel cough or anytthing yet luckily, so I think i'm in the clear health wise. However, my vet did see that she was from MO and said 90% sure she came from a puppy mill. So... although you can get a loving companion, be aware that when you buy from them you are supporting puppy mills. Btw the dogs are kept in the basement, besides the ones they breed and those are kept outside. The puppies are a little weird personality wise too, but who knows... Pros: large selection of dogs otherwise hard to find in new england Cons: Puppy mill... poor service...poor dog conditions in basement more

Best place in area 5/27/2008

Laughlin Kennel is great! I purchased a puppy from Laughlin Kennel two years ago. Back then they we're not on the internet and were a bit harder to find. Now, they have made this puppy buying experience more my style by joining the internet craze. I love the fact that when we purchased our second dog from this kennel that we we're able to see pictures on their website ahead of time. We called the place asking for a specific puppy by number. When I visited the kennel, I found it nice knowing exactly what we were going for ahead of time. The nice young man who was working was extremely helpful. I must say, after two dogs I would highly recommend this place to anyone. The animals are clearly well cared for, happy, and healthy. My two dogs are the joy of my family and it is nice knowing a family business like Laughlin Kennel is near to supply puppies to the area. Pros: Well cared for animals, great staff, local business more

This was the saddest place we have seen in a long time 5/21/2008

My husband and I were looking into getting a puppy for our grandchildren to enjoy when they spend time at our house. We read on the internet that the Laughlin Kennel had a variety of puppies. When I called for information, I asked the nice young man who answered if they got their puppies from puppy mills, suspicious that they seemed to have one or two of nearly every breed. We read very mixed reviews on your site, 25% of which were negative, but we decided to see for ourselves. The place is very ramshackle and the smell was terrible both inside and out. We told the same young man that we were not interested in puppies that were shipped. He said there were a couple of puppies raised there that we could see. We were shocked when he brought the puppies up. They did not look like normal puppies. One was shaking and shell-shocked but the second one was either very ill or completely traumatized. He could not life his head or respond. He just slumped in our arms. When we put him on the floor he couldn?t stand up. We then asked to see the mothers. That was even more heartbreaking. Both mothers were obviously not used to being outside a cage. One was terribly thin and had very little hair. Neither mother had any interest in human beings and both were extremely skitterish. We concluded that they had perhaps never been out of a cage, except to be bred. We felt sick and helpless. We didn?t want to support this place by spending the between $850 and $1,100. they were charging for these two puppies, but we wished that we could save them. We walked away feeling terrible. Don?t even think about going to this place and supporting this kind of treatment of animals. Cons: All of the above more

Beautiful dogs, often busy, energized and helpful staff 5/7/2008

Laughlin Kennel in Oxford - I've lived in Oxford for over 9 years. In this time, I have had many friends purchase puppies from Laughlin kennel. Due to my constant nagging and pleading to my husband (my hard work paid off!), I've recently have been blessed with the opportunity to search for a puppy of my own. Like many people, I too have heard horror stories of ""puppy mills"" and mistreatment of animals. I am not the type of person who would even dare walk into a kennel without doing extensive research. I find it funny how many people go looking for a problem after the fact, to me that is just silly. I would go as bold to say ignorant and nonsensical. Why look in the first place? Because you had a bad experience? Right off the back your research is tainted with words driven from your own biases.. Sorry, a pet peeve of mine. Mostly, I am writing this review because I now know not only from my prior research but also my own personal experience that Laughlin Kennel is a wonderful place to purchase a puppy - if you can not adopt your desired breed from a shelter. My yorkie is the gem I've always wanted. My husband has grown quite attached too, despite his hardest efforts. The place was clean. The staff was very helpful and precise in their instructions for handling my knew family addition. I highly recommend this kennel. After more then a decade of good reviews from people inside the community, I feel this business is safely coined as a proper place to purchase a puppy in New England. However, I would void the place on weekends. It is often very busy and difficult to see the puppies one-on-one. Cons: busy on weekends more

BEWARE 5/7/2008

I would thoroughly research one of the breeders from whom Laughlin gets their puppies. My puppy was born at ""Pick of the Litter"" in New York Mills, MN and after doing extensive research about them through the internet, I have come to the conclusion that they are a puppy mill. My puppy was initially hospitalized after receiving a bite from another dog, but he developed serious complications which perplexed my vet. He had pneumonia, aerophagia, seizures and giardia. Both vets at the animal hospital thought his symptoms were characteristic of distemper, but after reading the reviews on line about ""Pick of the Litter"", I wonder if my puppy was indeed vaccinated even though I have a slip of paper from Laughlin that states so. As our puppy's symptoms got worse each day despite numerous medications and operative procedures, we had to make the heart-wrenching decision to put him to sleep. PLEASE research Laughlin and their breeders before you make a purchase from them and maybe something positive can come out of this tragedy. Talk to your local vet about breeders who love and care for their dogs or contact a nearby shelter. I will never recommend Laughlin Kennels to anyone. Cons: Reminded me of a puppy mill. more

AKC kennel 5/6/2008

In early October, I purchased a Yorkshire Terrier from them. They gave me paperwork from their vet assuring me she was healthy. I brought her home and within several days of her being home, we brought her to the vet for her first checkup and everything was fine. I called Laughlin Kennels to ask about her parents weight and they were very helpful. I would strongly strongly recomend buying a puppy from them. \r Cons: AKC papers take 3 months more

I didn't buy a puppy there but.... 5/6/2008

I drop by often to look at the dogs. I guess I'm something of a regular visitor to Laughlin Kennel. The staff is always busy, but is also always willing to answer my questions and show me their puppies. In my frequent visits I have never observed any of the horrific conditions present at other pet stores. The puppies are playful, clean, and well cared for. I consider myself not only an animal lover but an animal advocate, and I think we need more careing and clean places like Laughlin Kennel. In a world with so much cruelty, it is so nice to see a business where the owners live with their dgs. Pros: Well cared for puppies, clean Cons: often busy. more
