Worst restaurant ever 11/11/2008

This place is absolutely disgusting! I went with my family on sat. night about 7:30. The place was dead. No atmosphere what so ever. The food was awful! Our waiter terrible..As we were leaving we could hear screaming and swearing from the kitchen it was dreadful. I would never recommend anyone to this restaurant! I was so embaressed that i took my family there. Thats a long story short. Pros: non Cons: Lots of parking. No one there more

Great Chicken and Pasta... and portions 9/8/2008

I know it's advertised for it's steak and sea food but they have so much more. It's a great atmosphere. It seems more upper scale but it feel very welcoming and comfortable. The staff was very friendly, even the management went out of their way to answer a small question about a wine bottle. I had the chicken florentine (the lemon sauce mixing with the spinach was so good) and my friend had the lasagna. We share. They were both excellent and were even great re-heated - it was plenty of food. Pros: Ambience, parking, service, price more

Completely disappointed, bad dining experience 9/8/2008

I have been to La Strada's when it first opened and a lot has changed between 2007 and September 6, 2008. When we arrived, our table was ready, which was a benefit. From that point, we had to ask for a drink menu. Once we were brought the drink menu, we had to wait for our waiter again, which took quite some time. Once he arrived, we ordered appetizers, crab cakes, bruschetta and mushrooms. The crab cakes were 4 tiny bite size pieces, absolutely ridiculous. The bruschetta was dry as it was lacking olive oil and the mushrooms were a good size but there were only two on the plate. Maybe this set the tone for the evening. Eventually we tracked our waiter down again and he took our order. My friend had the talapia (which I will say was wonderful), my husband had the fillet mignon (just okay), another friend ordered the full lobster plate (the most expensive item on the menu) and I ordered the chicken vesuvio (bone in). When they brought out the lobster plate, it was completely the wrong meal, they brought a tail not a plate and then the waiter had the audacity to say he ordered the wrong item - we all heard him say he wanted the full lobster plate. On mine, I told him I wanted bone in, well oops again, shame on me that the waiter ordered breast. For the four of us, our bill came to well over $200 and I have higher expectations if I am spending this much money. We constantly had to track the waiter down for drinks, re-orders and errors. Did I mention that the bread basket came out with the appetizers? A little late don't you think? And to top off this wonderful evening, the less than par manager Michael was called to our table where he sincerely acted like he didn't care and we were wasting his time and thought a small fruit plate (enough for one) was a good enough comp for 4 people! I called him today to advise that we were so unhappy with our experience and since he is the manager, I thought he would care more. He said he was busy and hung up on me. Pros: Lot of parking, restaurant wasn't that busy and it ws Saturday night! Cons: Terrible service and food more

Fantastic Linguini 7/23/2008

La Strada is a newer place on Barrington Road, open just over a year, I heard good things about it so we decided to try it our last Saturday evening. We had a party of 5 people. We had to wait a miunte for the table to get set I guess, the hostess was very nice when we arrived, we were offered to have a drink in the bar, we declined, they had a jazz singer in the bar, sounded nice but we were hungry. When we sat, a nice warm bread basket came, the server pre sented a wine list and took a drink order, then we ordered appetizers and entrees. We had a nice caesar salad, a bowl of large black mussels, great sauce to dunk the bread, and a jumbo shrimp cocktail, all very nice. But then the entrees arrived, and wow, we were shocked, I had a linguini with white clam sauce, fresh chopped clams mixed with whole baby manilla clams, very sweet, it was the best bowl of linguini I have ever had, my wife had a rare grilled tuna steak, and there was a thin crust pizza and a nice grilled Filet Mignon and some grilled pork chops that we very juicy and fresh. I tell ya, we were all very impressed. The menu has sandwiches, burgers, Cobb salads, Lasagna, veal parmigian and Lobster Fra Diavolos, little of everything. I would highly reccomend this restaurant. Try the Tutto Bene super Tuscan red wine, yummy.... Zitzi Pros: great parking lot, great menu, great outdoor patio, easy to find, nice decor Cons: None that I saw more

BEWARE!!!! Will NEVER EVER come here again!!! WARNING Charged my credit card for someone elses order!!! 6/17/2008

I attended karaoke night on Saturday May 31st because I knew the karaoke company. BIG HUGE MISTAKE!!! I was not only charged for my order but for another persons $55.00 tab as well. When the charge appeared on my credit card I called and spoke to the manager Michael who said he would take care of it... He never called me back... In three days I called him back and he said it would be taken care of. It's June 18th now and Leann called my father and told him that I have to find the girl (who's tab their bartender charged on my credit card ) and collect the money from her myself... I tried to call her back and she was too busy to come to the phone. I asked for the manager and when Michael got on the phone he told me that they need my credit card info and that Leann would call me back... 3 hours later... no call... What a JOKE!!! They couldn't have called me earlier for my credit card number. They can take the $55.00 that they have STOLEN from me and use it to pay for some customer service training... Their bartender IS A MESS!!!! The waitress RUDE!!!! DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD IF YOU VISIT THIS LOCATION!!! As they may charge you for someone else's tab too. Pros: NONE Cons: BEWARE! BAD SERVICE, RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE, CHARGED ME FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S ORDER, I had to seat myself, asked for a dessert menu 2 times, this place is a joke. more

disappointing 5/19/2008

My husband and I went out to La Strada for our first wedding anniversary. We also just had a baby, so we were both looking forward to a night out without him. My husband got a dinner reservation on a Saturday night-which I was impressed with. That ended when we walked in the door. This place is very noisy and we had to wait to be seated. The hostess wasn't very professional and our server seemed overwhelmed. I had the sea scallops with a saffron risotto. I make risotto myself, and can honestly say that I considered sending my meal back-something I have never done. The scallops tasted fishy and not fresh (or even fresh frozen), and the risotto was THE worst thing I've ever tasted-not well done in the least. My husband had the veal parmigiana, and they didn't even get that right. We ordered soup-the lobster bisque and the french onion. Both tasted very watered-down, something I might understand at the very end of a busy night, but we were dining at 6:30. If you are looking for a decent meal, I'd look elsewhere. If you want to watch prom couples and wait for a table, go here. Not impressive in the least.Sorry, La Strada, I really wanted to like you. more

Not what I expected 5/13/2008

While driving by this restaurant on Barrington Rd, you get the impression that it is sort of an upscale place. The name, the exterior of the building, the patio, it all adds up to a pretty good impression. Review on here also seemed to indicate that it would be a really nice, high quality experience. Not so. My wife and I ate there, and once inside it became evident that the impression is more facade than reality. The food was okay, but not even close to great. The service was sub-par. The decor, furniture, and tableware seemed cheap. When we walked out, my wife said to me, "That place was closer to Bob Evans than it was to Morton's. We should have gone to Chipotle." Pros: location Cons: see review more

Great Italian Food 3/8/2008

We ate there last night and the food was fabulous. I had the Sesame crusted Ono, smelled great, the teriyaki glaze was tasty, the fish cooked perfect, my wife had the Veal parmigian, with pasta Bolognese on the side. It was great she had Italian and I had like a pan asian dish. We started with the mussels and baked clams, whole clams, light bread crumbs, just like the east coast, the clams were right on......We had to ask the busboy 2 time for more bread, because were kept dunking in the spicy marinara that came with the mussels. Overall real upbeat atmoshpere, servers were right on, not over friendly, great music, we heard Sinatra, U2, Bob Marly, Steve Wondie, I like that about the place, its like Italian modern......I will be back next weekend. more

Good glass of wine, thats about it. 11/5/2007

Ive been there once before and told my self I would never go back. I recently just read some of the reviews others have posted and decided to go back and give it a second try. That's the biggest mistake, I made. It didn;t change one bit. They service was still slow, food was cold and my halabit had this funky taste to it. I had a good glass of Pinot Grigio, that was the highlight of my dinner. Pros: Good wine Cons: service, food temp and freshness more

Best Italian food and steaks in the suburbs!! 10/25/2007

La Strada's food was excellent!! Anything you crave, Steak, dessert, pasta, wine, wine, and more wine!! If you are looking for great service La Strada was a perfect example. My server was very enthusiastic and very knowledgable about all of the entrees. When I walked in I was greeted very professionaly with smiling faces. If you are a steak person, try the petite filet, it's to die for. The most tender and flavorful steak I have had in a very long time. They also offer 2 different sauces or crust with the steaks...I reccomend the gargonzola crust ( it's italian blue cheese for all you virgins). I have never been to a more welcoming environment go there and you will understand what I'm talking about. Pros: Does very well with children service!! wine, wine, more wine Cons: This may take a while to think of... more

Best steaks! 10/25/2007

My fiance and I went to La Strada one night and loved it! He loved his steak so much I though he was going to lick his plate! I had the Veal Strada and the sauce was delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable and sweet and even some of the other servers would help clear our table or pour our waters. The ambiance was relaxed and very enjoyable. We may even have our reception in their banquet room! more

All around a GREAT place 10/25/2007

Me and three of my girlfriends dined at La Strada a few days ago for the first time and we had an amazing time! The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the environment was perfect! The menu had a great veriety anywhere from steaks to vegiatarian food. All the staff was very friendly as was the manager. If you havnt dined at La Strada I highly suggest you do! I know that I will be back many times to come. more

VERY IMPRESSIVE 10/25/2007

I dined in La Strada last Monday, and I experienced excellent service. The hostess seated my boyfriend and I right away, and also made us feel truly welcome. After we were seated the good hospitality and service continued. I was blown away at how quickly our drink orders were taken and how friendly all the employees were. Everything came out nicely. The table was not crowded with appetizers and/ or plates, our server made sure to bring the next course out as we finished our previous. We did not feel rushed at any time, and the food was excellent. We will be dining in La Strada again, it was a place we will be telling our friends about. I had the fresh Maine lobster, and my boyfriend had the Veal Parmigian, we would reccomend both dishes to any persons dining in at La Strada. Try it out, we finally did, and I was very impressed. You will not regret it. more

Where has this place been hiding? 10/25/2007

It has great food, creative dishes and presentations, not just on the daily specials either i mean on the menu too. the staff worked as a team and it really showed, and they had fun so i can tell they like it too. and that matters. mostly, they made me feel like i mattered, and were more than willing to tell me all about their upcoming wine tastings and parties. they seemed to have a lot of great stuff planned. i like places where i can go out for an evening, not just for dinner. that's why i loved la strada. Pros: Great food and hospitality. Cons: I'd have to take a cab in order to enjoy their wonderful wine list. more

LA STRADA IS GREAT!!!! 10/14/2007

I was thinking of a place to take my friends out to dinner and I thought about La Strada in hoffman, just thinking about how convienently it is located off of 90 expressway and barrington rd. I have a couple buddies that live out off of Randall rd and 2 that live in the city, it was a great meeting place to start our night out. I made the reservation for 7:00 on a friday and we decided to meet in the bar at 6:30. There was a very good looking bartender that was serving multiple guests and doing a great job. After a drink or two we went to sit down in the dining room. Our services started out great and ended great . The Server had a great personality and knew the menu and food. All of our dishes that came out looked and tasted fantastic. There is nothing like going to a restaurant and being treated like family, especially when the food is like Italian home cooked food. I sugest everyone should give La Strada one chance because after that you will become a regular. Pros: ambience is great and the service is awsome!! more

Don't waste your time 8/18/2007

First of all, It felt like I was in a Japanese restaurant, the decor is not Italian what so ever. I had the Mussels Marinara, they smelled quit bad and the sauce tasted like butane fuel. The service was really slow and are entrees came out 45min after the mussels. I'll never go back again. more

Mediocre Food 5/28/2007

This place has costly, below average food. I ordered the halibut chargrilled but came baked in a tasteless lemon wine sauce. It had cajun spices on it for some reason. Vegetable risotto was bland and undercooked. Save your money, there are plenty of better options for steaks, pasta, and seafood. Pros: Parking Cons: Food more
