My new favorite place!!! 10/13/2008

My girlfriend and I recently had a great dinner at the Keg. We were immediately sat and had a great time from beginning to end. Our server was very helpful and kind. We asked to speak to a manager, just to say keep up the good work and he bought one of our appetizers for us. Even though we only called him over to let him know job well done, it is cool that they appreciated the kind words. As for value, you can't beat this place for a downtown steakhouse. We had three bar drinks, two apps, split a salad, had a filet and prime rib and split a dessert and our bill still wasn't at $100.00. Talk about being worth the price!!! After we left our server a 30% tip we were again thanked for our patronage on our way out by the hostess staff. What an incredible restaurant. I have already made plans to have dinner here for one of my best friends bachelor party I highly recommend this place and I will keep going back!!! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Staff Cons: Just having to drive downtown...but its worth it!!! more

Gotta Have the Bleu Cheese Filet 8/26/2008

This is my favorite restaurant! The food is amazing and I highly recommend the bleu cheese/garlic filet. It is wonderful! I always end up eating way too much there. If I could make one request, I would ask that they include a few more non-seafood appetizers on the menu (I'm allergic) but I would go back over and over again. It also has a good location, so it is perfect for taking the lightrail downtown for a night of fun! more

Awesome Steak 4/17/2008

Great place to eat. Food is amazing, staff is very knowledgeable and fun. Place is very cool because it has a separate lounge that is very relaxed and great for just hanging out. Or you can head over to the dining room that is very quite and cozy but not stuffy. The food is a great value 22.00 for a great cut of prime rib, some of the best i have ever had. Check it out if you get the chance. Great place to stop in before a rockies game. Also great happy hour, get the orange slice martini its amazing. Pros: value more

Overcooked, tough steak was just the beginning... 12/9/2007

My husband and I went for dinner last night and it was our second time visiting The Keg. Our first trip was pretty good but last night was awful. I ordered the New York Classic medium-rare and my steak was well done and very tough - almost completely gray inside. My husband ordered prime rib, which was decent, but not stellar by any stretch. Unfortunately, the waitress NEVER came back to see how we were, so I wasn't able to tell her. After dinner, our coffee was undrinkable, watery, worse-than-the-worst-diner-coffee and when we complained, they made a fresh carafe of the same terrible coffee. Our dessert, some sort of mocha ice cream pie, had freezer burn, but since we never saw the waitress after she delivered it we weren't able to tell her that either. When the waitress finally brought our check, my husband gave her his card BEFORE she walked away, but it still took over 15 minutes for her to bring it back for a signature. I eventually had to ask someone else to get it for us. Overall, the food was mediocre, the coffee horrendous and the service even worse. Our waitress would disappear for VERY long stretches and we were in a corner where few other waitstaff passed. Although we were seated immediately, ordered our drinks and food right away and did not have appetizers, it took us over 2 hours to have dinner, coffee and dessert and get out of there. We had been so excited to find a good, well-priced steakhouse nearby, but now we are not sure we'll ever go back. Pros: quick seating, no reservations needed Cons: loud, service, parking, coffee more

Amazing staff, Great steaks, Awesome ambiance 10/3/2007

As far as stuffy, snobby, over priced steakhouses go, this is clearly not one of them. The menu has both traditional and not-so-traditional entrees and appetizers (got to try the keg sliders). In a cow town, a steak is a steak, but not all steakhouses are the same. The staff is young, hip, and trendy, and the music, though slightly louder than in most places is more club-esque than department store elevator. The bar is beautiful and a great place to enjoy a less formal dinner or lunch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the wine list impecable, the cocktails freshly squezed and invigorating. All in all, my favorite place to entertain friends, family, and business associates. Gets packed before and after Rockies games since is it a block away from Coors stadium. Pros: great spot, great everything, beautiful ambience Cons: music is a touch loud, wish it opened for early lunch more

GREAT STEAKS!!! Great prices. Beats Ruth's Chris, The Palm, or Morton's unless you're just a snob! 5/8/2007

GREAT STEAKS!!!!! In my opinion, the 16oz Ribeye is every bit as good as Ruth's Chris or the Palm, and at a better price (Under $30) especially considering it comes with a spud and mushrooms. More value for the money here!! \r \r The bluecheese filet is also fabulous, (again, under $30.) \r \r The rest of the menu looks great too. Oh, and it's not just premium steaks here, you can find surf and turf (under $30), or a nice sirloin (for around $20). \r \r I tell everyone about this place. What's not to love. I've never had a bad meal or experience here. \r \r If you want to spend a lot more, then go ahead to Ruth's or the Capital Grille, or the Palm. I wouldn't pay $1 for a steak at Morton's. \r \r If Ribeye is your cut, then the Keg is your place. Pros: Great Steaks and Great Prices Cons: Can't brag about how much you spent at Morton's, or the other overpriced steakhouses more

Not worth the money 4/16/2007

We went with a group of friends recently. We were all disappointed. We had reservations. They seated us in a part of the restaurant where it was obvious there was not going to be a server coming by very often. We actually had to get up three times to get someone to come and take a drink order. Once to take a steak back because it was so over cooked you couldn't cut it with a knife. Then the last time to get a check. I was very disappointed. For the money I think there are plenty of other steak houses in Denver to consider first. Pros: Great location downtown Cons: Terrible service and food more

Surprisingly poor prime rib 4/10/2007

If you look superficially at The Keg it looks like an upscale high-quality restaraunt. Dark woods, leather seats, nice lighting, professional-looking staff, etc.\r \r I recently ordered a prime rib dinner and they gave me the end cut. I ordered a medium prime rib, and the end is known to be medium-well or even well. That cut also does not have the outer layer of marbled meat that a middle-cut has. It isn't a very good cut. The manager (who we chatted with at the entrance, and he was very nice) stopped by and asked me how my dinner was and I told him that I wasn't happy with my steak. He said he'd take care of it. He came back with a new plate and the steak that was on it was genuinelyl bizzarre - it looked pale-pink, was covered in clear juices, and looked to me like it was cooked in a hurry (maybe because they ran out of prime rib?). I saw another steak just like it go by on it's way to another table. Well needless to say I wasn't happy but I wasn't going to send back two steaks, and the manager and server only asked about me to be polite (they didn't actually seem to care if I was happy). \r \r After that I started to look around (we were in front of the kitchen) and began noticing that the staff was all very young, and the people working in the back of the kitchen sure didn't seem like experts. Quite a few of the servers were very young as well.\r \r I now think that The Keg is the Olive Garden or Cheesecake Factory of steakhouses. I get a better prime rib at Texas Roadhouse (and it's a lot cheaper). I won't be in a hurry to go back to The Ket, but if I do I'll be sure to order a New York strip (which my GF had and I tried: it was good) instead of prime rib. Pros: Very nice atmosphere, location, friendly staff Cons: food is surprisingly hit-or-miss, ""veneer"" feeling of a chain more

Best Orange Martini 11/24/2006

Great for late dinning, or after a base ball game, the food is good, but what really impressed me was their fresh and delicious orange martini. Pros: Great drinks, large bar area more

Great Downtown Location and Fair Prices 11/13/2006

After my recent disappointment with The Broker I was very pleased to find that Denver Dining can still be both affordable and offer great service. Surf and Turf for $35 was a great value. Not the best tasting steak in town and the lobster was just average but then again for $35 you cant go wrong. Pros: Surf & Turf for $35 Cons: Steak was overdone more

Best steakhouse in downtown! 10/21/2006

The Keg is by far my favorite restaurant downtown. We always get a table with or without a reservation. Never had one issue with the food. My husband and I do have to laugh though because every time we go there we tend to sit next to the ""first time"" couple who are offered a free shrimp cocktail (and sometimes they don't eat it) when being welcomed for the first time. We never got that deal! If you sign up for the marketing card though, you will get sent a free steak and lobster meal for your birthday - well worth filling out a card. Oh - best steak, best potatoes, best seafood and BEST dirty martini! Must try the mushroom cap appetizer that has cream cheese in it - mmmmmm - to die for. Go try it! Pros: BEST everything - for singles, for families, great date place - every celebration you will want here. Cons: Closed for lunch more

Worst Steak in Denver 8/22/2006

I had high expectations when I went to dinner at The Keg. The steak was so tough I thought I was going to choke on a piece I should have removed from my mouth instead of attempting to swallow. The baked potato was small when I expected a huge one and the appetizer was terribly small for 2 people. It was a terrible disappointment. I do like the bar area and the atmosphere but will never eat there again. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food and front desk staff more

3 out of 5 steaks badly overdone... then 2 of those 3 bloody the 2nd time 8/13/2006

Restaurant had a great low-key atmosphere but there must have been a real rookie chef back there. 3 out of 5 steaks were pure grey in the middle (all 3 were medium requests) - not even a hint of pink. When sent back the waitress said ""that's what our medium looks like!"" She took it back after our table errupted in laughter. On the second try 2 of the 3 steaks were not even rare... very bloody. I may give The Keg a 2nd try someday but it will be a long time. We should have gone to The Chop House. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food prep, steaks more

Yaktails! 3/8/2006

I am a native of Colorado. However, my family heritage is ranchers/farmers from N.D.. We learn to appreciate food, for that is the main connection between people. That includes family, friends, and entertaining business partners. Coming from a family that raised cattle, hogs, chickens and having a love for fish (including sashimi), we have been to MANY different restaurants. For every speacial occasion, we return to The Keg. The food is excellent. The staff has gone out of their way from our first visit, to accomidate everyone's request. Buy far this is the BEST location for escargot, steak and crab leggs that we have enjoyed. I read the other reviews, and noticed only a few angry reviews included long waits. Yeah, thats because this place is in demand!!! By the way we bring our children, ages 7 and 16. Pros: menu, taste, service Cons: impatient customers more

Try Somewhere Else 11/14/2005

First off, The Keg is an excellent value. For a Hundred Dollars you get a lot. The price included 5 drinks, apps, salads, and main course. Unfortunately, the service and food was undesirable. The meat was tough and the wrong cut from what I ordered. The shrimp was chewy and no flavor. We were seated and were not acknowledged for ten minutes. When the waiter came over he poured half a glass of water and disappeared. Hopefully, for the Keg, this was his first day. Pros: Ambiance, Price, Value Cons: Service, Steak, Service more

disappointed birthday boy 8/23/2005

I took my husband & 20 of our closest friends to the keg last night for his birthday. He had one request: the largest steak available - they made him order 2 steaks instead of cutting his to order as we had requested & he ordered it ""blue"" which is clearly defined on the menu, neither steak approached rare, let alone blue. In addition, although I had made a reservation for 20 people weeks in advance, our table was given away when guests were slightly late w/o so much as the courtesty of the manager's apology. Waitstaff was confused, defintiely not friendly or accomodating. This was the Keg's second chance & they will not receive our business again. Cons: service, food preparation, accomodations more

Better than expected. 12/4/2004

Colorado is only the fifth state to host a restaurant from this Canadian chain. The name is a bit misleading. You might expect to find a sportsbar that also sells steaks, instead you find a well-appointed dining room featuring dark woods and modern fixtures. Service was excellent. Steak dominates the menu but there are other choices. Prices are reasonable for a downtown steakhouse. The tasty wedge salad came on an ice-cold plate and was loaded with blue cheese. I tried the baseball sirloin, it was good but a little tougher than I expected. The twice-baked potato side dish was very good. Overall, a good, solid, reasonably priced steakhouse. Pros: Decor, Prices, Service more

Steak WITH Sides 9/20/2004

Visited from Chicago (we know our steak!) and this place was great! Romantic, dark setting. Cool bar and views of Union Station. The steak was tender and oh so tasty! Great service and suggestions. Value was amazing: $20-$30 for steak which included your choice of side! Dinner with apps and drinks: $68! Pros: Value, Service, Ambiance more

RR 1/23/2004

Went to the Keg just before a Saturday Denver Stock Show and was surprised at the ease of curb parking btwn 5-6pm. The steaks were superb-we had the Classic Filet and New York Strip dinners. I usually will have some type of topping or even a steak sauce, but these steaks were so flavorable and tender that they melted in your mouth-no need to even use the steak knife!! After living and traveling throughout the US/Canada and overseas, this is by far the best steak I've ever tasted. Getting your bill is a little struggle when the patron level picks up but that small deficiency is tolerable when the food is so outstanding. Have already recommended the Keg to others. Pros: parking, food, drinks Cons: bill paying more

Unique dining experience 8/24/2003

I went to The Keg not knowing what to expect and was pleasently suprised, The building is beautiful and is oozing with charachter and mood. The service was very friendly and efficient. There wasn't the snoodiness that most servers in nice steakhouses seem to have. The best part of alll was the food, all of our steaks were cooked perfectly and they melt in your mouth. The wine list is also the most reasonably priced wine list I've ever seen. This was a great night and we will be back soon. We've found our new favourite Denver restaurant. Pros: price, atmosphere, quality steaks more
