Big service problem 3/31/2006

This restaurant has a big service problem. This is my second time there, for lunch. First time was dinner. At both occasions, the service was mediocre at best. For a supposedly top scale (certainly top price) restaurant like this one, the service is way below what you could expect. I am sure the waiters are doing their best but they are clearly poorly trained. more

i went there for restaurant week 8/27/2005

despite their limited restaurant week menu (only get to pick from two choices for each course), julien was the best one out of all the restaurants ive tried, beating out other top restaurants in boston like union bar and grill, etc. i had their roasted duck breast, which was unbelievably good. im not a big fan of duck personally but the way that it was made was incredible. very moist, tender and juicy. their complimentary little tidbits of dessert and appetizers were great. ther service was topnotch and the setting was extremely romantic and formal. definitely a place where dresses and ties are recommended. Pros: romantic setting, great food more

AWESOME!! 8/17/2004

My husband took me to Julien for my b'day. It was fantastic! So romantic and the servers were so attentive. The food was fantastic too. A bit pricey to frequent Julien, but it's so worth it for a special occasion!! Pros: service, food, ambiance more

Great Anniversary Dinner 6/19/2004

Had a wonderful experience at Julien celebrating an anniversary. For a romantic experience, request one of the tables with a booth where you and your partner can sit side-by-side. This makes a larger, elegant, formal dining room also seem quaint and romantic. We had the 8 course tasting dinner for $85/pp. Soup, tuna, sea bass, salad, duck, lamb, cheese, dessert, petit fours. All were excellent, very tasty. And the proportions were were significant - I'd say 75% of an entree. The service was wonderful. Several people are waiting on you, but the head waiter was very informed, but not pompous at all. He was very friendly. It's a nice ambience, with a piano playing gently in the background. It's one of the Best in Boston. Make sure to let them know it's a special occasion, and they will take care of you. Pros: Romantic Booths, Great Food, Friendly Service more

Stuffy and Mediocre 4/20/2004

The food at Julien was very good but not great- and at those prices, I expect it to be terrific. There was nothing truly original on the menu- it's a good place for the older, less adventurous diner. The portions are small, which I generally don't have a problem with, but when one of the men in our group ordered the apple trio and got a minute slice of apple tart, a dollop of cinnamon apple ice cream, and a shaving of apple skin over a piece of chocolate, it was clear presentation was favored over food experience. And, in fact, that sums up Julien as a whole. If you want to drop a lot of cash and be appreciated for it, the atmosphere of Julien certainly caters- the service is excellent and the decor is quite lavish. If you want food to match the setting, though, go to L'Espalier. Pros: Service, Ambiance Cons: , Price/Quality Ratio more

exceptional 11/28/2003

We had excellent evening and would highly recommend Julien to any one who wants to have good time complemented by excellent cusine. Thank you Juliens. more

The pianist is just wonderful. An outstanding musician. Played my requests. Very obliging. Pros: Live Music, Food, Service Cons: None, None, None more

Absolutely Top Notch! 11/25/2002

While staying at le Meridien, I had a cold & didn't want to go out, so I used room service the entire time, which is provided by Julien. The personnel couldn't have been nicer and more caring and the food - despite my cold - was sublime. One time, I was allowed to order a meal of my choosing (not on the menu), and the chef outdid himself. If one must feel rotten and rely on roomservice, then this is the place to do so! Pros: great food, San Pellegrino water, excellent coffee Cons: served in my room more

elegance extraordinaire 11/10/2002

Julien's is a great place to go. We stayed at the LeMeridien Hotel under the Epicurean package. However, I wish we never told the waiter this at dinner that evening. As soon as he learned we were under this package, we recieved 2nd class service from him. The other two waiters, however, were excellent. Next time, I will hesitate to inform them of our package plan until after the dinner. Other than that the food was out of this world; and the piano music all night was great. It took us 2 1/2 hours for our dinner and it was worth it. Additionally, since it was our 15th wedding anniversary, we received a special dessert plate that was an extremely pleasant surprise which capped off a beautiful evening. Pros: Nice Piano music, Very relaxing, Chairs were great Cons: Expensive, Parking more

bon jour 7/26/2002

A wonderful experience. Absolutely, the best food, service, wine, and environment. The menu changes each season (Winter & Summer are my favorite). Piano in the background. The lamb and fish are always great selections. Desserts are a work of art and taste even better. The fine people at Julien's do not meet expectations, they exceed them. Also, their brunch on Sunday's is probably the greatest eating experience you'll ever have!!! Pros: Quiet, Delicious, Romantic more
