Concur with many others on here: Jimi is great! Called him up one day letting him know I was a new client looking to go from brunette to blonde. He had me in his chair the next day and we discussed extensively what I did and DIDN'T have in mind. He walked me through the pics I had brought, talked to me about the realities of both the cost and maintenance of the color I was interested in, and so on. I felt no pressure. He gave me the space to think about it. In all, the consult was great. So good, in fact, that while there in his chair, I decided I needed a haircut - I mean, why not? - and so I got to see him work some magic on my hair. Walked out feeling gorgeous, with a flattering cut, and a great new stylist. He's super friendly, lots of fun, and I would recommend him to everyone who needs to hear someone just tell it like it is. more

Jimi is just so awesome! I had a great first appointment with him. I desperately needed my hair colored. I brought in a picture of what I wanted the color to look like and it came out EXACTLY like the picture, spot on! I had a lot of old red coloring in my hair and I was concerned that it might come out orange - how silly I was to worry, I was in great hands and will be again, as I have no need to search further for a hair stylist. I've found him.\r \r He also gave me a great cut. Jimi is simply wonderful. First, he is a great listener. He spent a good deal of time listening and discussing my hair color crisis. I felt he was invested in the results and in cultivating a long term client. Next, he explained the color correction process, and his knowledge made me comfortable with each step. Then he worked his magic…bring back my medium brown color, which had been dyed a flat, almost black color at a “Best of Boston” salon. I am absolutely thrilled with results. He even followed up with me a week later to make sure I was happy. He is a color and color correction expert, and a true gem. I am thrilled to have found him and will sing his praises to anyone who will listen. more

I read another reviewer refer to Jimi James as the 'rock star of hair,' which I thought was the perfect way to describe the way Jimi transforms your hair from drab to fab! That sounds corny, but I have never had a stylist earn such high marks in all areas: 1. He's personable and friendly, you'll feel he's an old friend within the first 15 minutes of meeting him 2. He styles your hair how YOU want it, not the other way around 3. He is a wizard with hair color. Seriously, the man has a gift. I had my hair dyed an unfortunate shade of fluorescent 'carrot' orange by a salon in a nearby mall (Jimi even correctly guessed which one it was, ha!) and he was able to not only correct it, but give me the exact shade of red I'd been wanting! 4. He does all this makeover magic in under 2 hours! I used to spend close to 4-5 hours at my old salon! 5. He has very reasonable prices, especially compared to salons in the area 6. Though his claim to fame is through his knack of hair color wizardry, he also gives FANTASTIC hair cuts and blow outs! Seriously, I have long, extremely thick hair and, at pretty much every other salon I've been to, they gave major attitude when I asked them to blow dry, and I'd spend 20 minutes with my head upside down or they had me do it myself. Jimi thinks that that is a cop-out and major disservice to a customer and actually took the time to do it right and made sure I left happy! 7. Do you need another reason? You won't find a better stylist than Jimi James around! You will walk out of the chair with the best looking hair you've ever had--get ready for multitudes of compliments! Jimi James is now located in Cambridge at 44 Prospect St. He rents a chair out of a place called Lewis' s Hair Salon. I needed a full foil a cut and a blowout on 12/31 for a big event. Jimi James did a four color blonde foil high light for me a fantastic hair cut and blow out( MY HAIR COLOR IS AMAZING!!!! ). Last night 30 woman asked me ""WHO DID YOUR HAIR"" I never had this many shades of blonde hair. It look so natural. Jimi james is A rock star with hair color. my 4 color foil cut and blowout ran me 235.00 which is still cheaper then my former salon ..... I went to Jimi James for the first time five weeks ago for a color correction after I had some horrible lowlights put in by another hairdresser....not only did he get rid of them completely and bring my blonde hair color back in ONE appointment...he made it the most gorgeous shade of blonde EVER...I absolutely love it....I am getting so many compliments on my hair!! Jimi James truly is an EXPERT hair colorist! I'v read all the comments on Jimi James the great, not so great and the ons form people who will never be pleased. i made my appointment for Dec 20 (sunday) and was VERY VERY IMPRESSED. 3 shades of blonde hair done as full foil. My hair is AWESOME so many compliments. Jimi James is high energy guy thats quick and tells great jokes and i felt very connected with him from start. Hes a GREAT hair colorist. I AM so happy I made this appointment my search is over. Pros: the hair color I asked for, nice clean salon, great vibe. Cons: bakery right next door.... oh those cream puffs. more

Nice, charming, bit crazy presentation. He only did half the job, promised to fix it in a few days, Told me credit card machine was not working and asked for a ride to my atmso I could give him a few hundred. Jimi James is nothing short of extraordinary! I came to him with FRIED bleach blond hair courtesy of another stylist. In just one visit, he gave me soft, healthy hair. Moreover, gave me back my natural color! He is also open on Sundays which is very convenient. Pros: great healthy color fast! more

I was having a hard time convincing my now former Hairstylist to color my Hair the way I wanted it. The color just never stayed on, It was literally gone after 3 days. We found Jimmy on line, read the reviews and called him up. I liked what I heard , and so we made an appointment for a consultation and walked away feeling really positive about the experience. So a couple of days later it was time for the new color. I am a fantastic red head now. The color stayed on, it shines and Jimmy also gave me a great cut that goes with my face. We just saw him for a Touch up and he was efficient, quick and accurate. If you are looking for a supremely talented Colorist he is the Man for you. He looks at you and just knows what is right for you and believe me follow His advice you wont be disappointed. I'd lived in the Boston area for 7 years before I finally decided it was time to get my hair done here rather than having my bi-annual highlights done by my old stylist in Florida. I originally went to Newbury St and got a fine color job but it was boring. I searched Citysearch and found Jimi's website and was excited to find someone who did such close blonde highlights. I went to Jimi who is immediately your friend and just told him to do whatever he thought was best. I have a shoulder length choppy haircut and am naturally dark blonde. He gave me perfect blonde highlights that complemented my cut! He also said I'd only need to get them done two, maybe three, times a year and he's right! I will always go to Jimi for my highlights! I also appreciated that he loves my haircut and told me to stick with my stylist (at another salon!). Went to see Jimi for red hair color. Color washed out the next day. He said he'd refund me. Never did. Considering small claims court. $160 for single process color. Unprofessional. Horrible experience. Stay away from him!!!!!!! more

I tried to highlight my hair with a hair color from CVS - terrible move. Jimi was able to see me the next day and corrected my new blond color so that my hair looks great - colored, but professional. Jimi was also very fast - he was able to see me within a day and had me in and out of his shop in less than ninety minutes. I would highly recommend. Jimi is the best colorist I've ever been to! He knew exactly what to do when I came to him with an ill-advised home dye job that went horribly wrong! He got my hair to look exactly the way I wanted it and I get so many compliments on it now! He also doesn't charge you an arm and a leg. Better results than you get on Newbury Street and not nearly as expensive! He is a great guy who is an expert in hair color. I definitely recommend him to anyone who wants fabulous-looking hair! My girlfriend has spent ...and wasted THOUSANDS of dollars at so called ""Best of Boston"" hair salons. We're talking places like Maksou, G20 (formerly Guiliano's), and Salon Fontana to name but a few. They all disappointed. We were going there for years, paying exorbitant prices, and always walked away feeling not only did the person do a terrible job...they couldn't care less who the client was. These places can always count on someone trusting the Improper Bostonian to be the gospel, and bring people through the doors.\r \r Then, one day we came across someone with amazing hair, and she recommend Jimi James to us. At first, my girl was cautious because for some reason, she equates quality with being located on Newbury St - yes, feel sorry for me. Still, with my persuasion, she gave Jimi a chance; she could not have been more pleased with the results. He was the FIRST person in over 3 years of us dating, to get her hair colored the way she wanted. Jimi remembers exactly the formula that each client needs for their hair, and never fails to deliver that Hollywood look. \r \r If you think this review is being written during the so called ""honeymoon period"", let me set things straight. My girl has been going to see Jimi once a month... for the last 3+ years! She never fails to miss an appointment. Before, she HATED going to the various colorists that you see written up in the ""Improper Bostonian"" (those guys have ZERO credibily when they give their best of Boston review; they have to please their advertisers, and so you will always see Maksou and other salons who heavily advertise, get #1 reviews). SCREW THAT! Now, my girl makes seeing Jimi a priority over me! However, I can't complain. Jimi James may as well be a super hero of hair! I went to Jimi James for a color correction after another salon turned my hair orange. He worked miracles on my hair, turning it from an awful brassy orange to a very attractive blond!! I've never felt as trusting and comfortable with a stylist before!! The problem I found with going to Newbury years on end was that once your hairstylist figures out what you like, they stick with it. Well, I don't necessarily want to have the same hair or color all year round. Jimi fully understands it and helps me change my look - even a little bit - every time I see him. His level of skill is unquestionable, supported by years of experience. In addition, Jimi remembers each of his clients by name and all the little details about the clients' personal life. I have to tell you god's honest truth - every time I get a lot of complements on my hair. Another enjoyable part of the salon is that the clients there have fun socializing. Jimi just started the new salon so it is work in progress at the moment, can't wait to see when it's completed! I am sure it will be gorgeous. I highly recommend Jimi to all my friends. more

After years of dragging into Newbury Street salons from the suburbs grew old, I tried 4 different stylists in 2 years around Waltham, Lexington, and Newton. Finally I found Jimi's salon online and decided to give it a shot. Over a year later, I am a happy, loyal fan who has recommended him to two others, both of whom are similarly devoted! Jimi listens to you, offers constructive opinions, and has a professional, confident approach that results in great hair. He is fast - which for time-pressed people is great - yet, the experience is totally unrushed and totally focused on *you.* He works with my crazy wavy hair, not against it, and encouraged me to try color, which was pretty revolutionary for me! Every time I leave Jimi's salon, for weeks after people comment that I ""look rested,"" ""look great,"" etc. Don't expect the Newbury Street salon look (or prices) - his heart and energy is in making you look fabulous, not proving how fabulous he is. more

Jimi is a master and an artist when it comes to hair coloring. I have been going to him for over a year, every 10 weeks, and I get fantastic results with the bleach treatment. My hair is never dry or damaged, and looks so pretty when he is done! He is fun to be with. I trust him completely! Pros: The best coloring I have ever received. He understands what you want. more
