Loved it! 11/7/2004

They got me in within a half hour on a Sunday night to fix a botched dye job. I came out with gorgeous chocolate and carmel highlights! I highly reccommend Kevin for color! He took the time to match up all the different shades of my hair to the dyes, and really did well. more

Best Salon in Boston 10/17/2004

Eva is my hair stylist and does a phenomenal job. She is always suggesting the most complementing cut and color for me (depending on the season)and it always turns out PERFECT! She is so talented and so up to date. I sincerely recommend James Joseph, you will not be disappointed!!! Pros: working hours, very close to the T, staff is fab. more

After going to salons every five weeks for the past 18 years, I can honestly say this is the best, most professional salon I have ever experienced. Ava is an artist and a Hair scientist!!!She had color formulas for every kind of hair on my head. I showed her a color and she did it. That simple. And she can CUT HAIR. Thank you Ava! Thanks for fixing my hair 8/31/2004

I went to another salon after reading their great reviews and got one of the worst cuts I've ever had and got served attitude on a tray to boot. Then a friend recommended that I go to JJ for a fix up and I couldn't be happier. I felt like the other salon shredded my hair, and Rudina did an amazing job fixing the cut and gave me a blow dry that made my hair look flat ironed. Another stylist (I think his name was Seth) recommended some products that brought back the shine after that other salon destroyed my hair. And everyone was nice too. Thank you JJ!! Couldn't be Happier 7/20/2004

I moved to boston in the fall for school, leaving my hairdresser of YEARS. being as picky as i am, i was sent to james joseph from a friend i trusted. I have never received so many compliments on my hair style, cut and color, and i have already been on summer vacation for two months. i highly recommend the salon, especially seth. Bad Haircut 6/21/2004

I moved to Boston this year and had heard great things about James Joseph Salon. I went for a cut twice with the same girl and each time I ended up with a bad cut. The first time I asked for a trim and she took off way more than necessary which basically changed the style of my hair. The second time it was thinned out too much on one side and too bulky on the other side. I have nothing against the salon (the staff was friendly and the decor is cool) and I'm sure other haircutters there are great but it just didn't work out for me. I recently tried out a different salon on Newbury that doesn't have the trendy decor but I found the best haircutter! Pros: decor , atmostphere, nice staff more

boring 1/30/2004

I was new to the area and had read good things about the salon. I went to a man who was voted best colorist by the Improper Bostonian. While the color and cut were not messed up or anything, they were not anything special. It claims to be mod and urban, but my hair was just boring. I wanted something more hip and exciting especially for $180. Caution: if you are interested in anything out of the ordinary, you may not get it. Pros: nice ambience more

Great Men's and Women's Styling 1/19/2004

I've been going to Ava for over a year and my husband started getting his hair cut by her last summer. She is a very skilled stylist, doing both cut and color. She has great taste and always suggests something suitable to my personality. She keeps up with hairstyling trends and travels often to attend seminars and conferences. Above all, she is super sweet!! Pros: great stylist, open 7 days a week more

DON'T GO, you'll REGRET IT 9/3/2003

My friends and I pride ourselves on splurging and giving plenty of business to Newbury St. Anyhow, my guy friend went in for a cut and the stylist disregarded his instructions and gave him the worst haircut! You know, the kind you can get from Chinatown or your grandpa's local barber. They offered to ""look at the bad cut"" but what's done is done. Try living with a bad haircut. He is now in hiding until his hair grows back! Worse, he missed a dear friend's wedding b/c of the haircut! :( Pros: decor Cons: stylists don't listen more

Great place 8/1/2003

I came here after reading all of the recommendations and this is a great place to get your hair cut! The salon is very cool, when you get your hair washed (Leo does a great job) you sit in a massage chair. Cindy cut my hair and she was great. I would recommend going here to anyone. more

Truly Disappointing Cut 4/26/2003

Any good stylist can turn a mediocre cut into a fabulous style. But a great cut allows anyone a fabulous style! And a cutter that truly loves the craft will be attentive to your personality, styling habits and personal image. This cutter will check your cut as your hair dries, mid-styling, post styling, and before you walk away! This is the kind of cutter that truly loves hair and wants you to look and feel beautiful! This is NOT what I received. I look like Einstein! I feel that my concerns following the cut was finished fell on deaf ears. I was told that my wants were passé... that thanks to his wonderous blow-dry style techniques, I now look fashionable. This salon lacks versatile skills. Hurried and under-valued, beauty was only so long I didn't wash my hair. I should delight in my hair for weeks to come... NOT! I'm new to the city and needed to get a new updated haircut. I checked ""Citysearch"" and saw favorable reviews for James Joseph Salon. Not knowing what to expect, I was greeted at the front desk by a very charismatic, pleasant gentleman named Roxy. I told him I didn't have an appointment and he promptly set me up with a stylist. he helped to make my experience at James Joseph enjoyable. New place matches service 11/5/2002

Love this place. I had a cut there last spring at their old location and although the atmosphere was way too crowded, the cut by Seth was awesome. I was completely thrilled. I've been to their new place this year... 100% improvement on atmosphere and exactly what they needed to match their service. Again, thrilled by cut and style...and looking forward to returning soon for something fresh. What's the fuss? 8/22/2002

I've been to the salon a number of times. The atmosphere at the new James Joseph Salon is gorgeous, but sometimes the staff (I will refrain from mentioning who) tends to talk you out of getting what you want. Their haircuts are mediocre - I don't know what all the fuss is about, but the personalities of the hair specialists were fabulous and very entertaining. You also get to enjoy a fabulous massage chair while your hair is being washed (although it could be just a bit stronger). Great salon, but not worth all the fuss. Pros: Price is reasonable., Great atmosphere, Amicable hair stylist Cons: Haircut not too great, Desk staff not nice more

Eva works magic 8/13/2002

In addition to being the sweetest gal, Eva cuts and colors wonderfully. The new location is beautiful - open and spacious where before it tended to be somewhat cramped. Its not the most affordable place, but the service and skill that you get make it a good reason to come back. Pros: Very skilled, Friendly Cons: Bad Parking more
