Having lived in East Boca for 7 years, I wondered why I had not tried Jake's yet. Last night I discovered why. Having purchased a restaurant.com voucher, I figured my partner and I would give it a try. I read numerous reviews on opentable and yelp, and they were mixed. Some raved about food and service, many said it was pricey, and several remarked about poor service and dirty plates and tables. We found the service (waitress Barbara) to be efficient and attentive, greeting by host (owner?) David nice. The ambience and decor reminded me of a clubhouse at Century Village designed in the late 1960s. It has been in need of a refresh for about 20 years. The pricing is high, as many reviewers have remarked. While David declared all the salads and appetizers were very large and could be shared, our choice of mozzarella and tomato salad at $17 could easily have been for one person. And guys, if you are giving basil with it, add a sufficient quantity! My two soft shell crabs sautéed were actually quite good at $27, and I skipped the rice and had a double order of tasty green beans. My partner had sole stuffed with crab meat and while tasty and a large portion, te sauce turned his syomach. Note: other reviewers have commented on the sauces. The key lime pie at $10 was a small sliver, and while good, was not the awesome dessert some obvious over zealous reviewers have commented on. It should have been priced at $7 or doubled in size. Based on all these factors, I'll continue to go to the numerous other restaurants in East Boca known for their great fish, outstanding service, and 2012 vibe. As I say, we need restaurants for all types of people, but this onand at its price point, and it's location, is a PASS IT UP, not a MUST DINE! more

Needs to retire Rubin the waiter. When I asked how the sea bass was prepared his response was read the menu. Wow we spent $75 per person and had the worst service. more

It was OK. Super expensive and don't be fooled by "all you can eat stone crab" just means they wont run out but you pay $$$ for every one. Outside seating is on a parking lot on busy traffic corner. Service was sketchy. Had to interrupt our waiter "texting" to get a drink. ( should have textwd him) Very tacky. I had King Crab...55$ nice portion but salad 10$ and vegetable 10$ a la Carte. Kids menu has the usual pasta, chic fingers. Would I go back? No. Would I send a friend? No more

Disappointed by food quality and lack of oversight. At over $100 per person, I expect food that is properly prepared and beautifully presented. The oysters on the half shell were not cleaned well, not detached for polite eating and were tossed onto a plate. The much touted sweet potato fries were served with a marmalade so cloyingly sweet, my guests thought it was peach jam. The Florida lobster and Alaskan crab were both over cooked. But the grouper was the biggest disappointment. Served on a watery bed of linguine, it suffered in texture and flavor. While the manager did check up on us during our meal and an additional manager came to visit, both of them failed to oversee whoever is washing the silverware as each of four place settings contained a dirty implement. The waitress, however, provided excellent, thoughtful and prompt service. more

need to eat Gluten Free, explained to the waiter, after checking with the kitchen, he confirmed that the meal would be fine. \r \r Food is delivered to the table, with a large piece of bread on top. One of the staff tried to simply remove the bread and serve it to me, which is not acceptable. While they prepared a new meal for me, my wife ate slowly and finished more than half of her meal. Manager, offered no apology, only an explanation on how bread is typically served with shrimp scampi.\r \r $30.00 for 4 shrimp scampi with a scoop of plain white rice and Swiss chard add to that no refills on soft drinks. I will never go back\r \r My wife loved her meal, fillet of sole stuffed with Maryland blue crab. more

Clearly the finest Restaurant anywhere in Boca Raton. The New York Times says you must go and they are right. Jake's has a crew of employees that work together better than the Lakers during playoffs and there food from top to bottom stands alone in excellence. Don't miss this Restaurant if you come to Boca. more
