Editorial review from Urbanspoon 6/22/2012

Having lived in East Boca for 7 years, I wondered why I had not tried Jake's yet. Last night I discovered why. Having purchased a restaurant.com voucher, I figured my partner and I would give it a try. I read numerous reviews on opentable and yelp, and they were mixed. Some raved about food and service, many said it was pricey, and several remarked about poor service and dirty plates and tables. We found the service (waitress Barbara) to be efficient and attentive, greeting by host (owner?) David nice. The ambience and decor reminded me of a clubhouse at Century Village designed in the late 1960s. It has been in need of a refresh for about 20 years. The pricing is high, as many reviewers have remarked. While David declared all the salads and appetizers were very large and could be shared, our choice of mozzarella and tomato salad at $17 could easily have been for one person. And guys, if you are giving basil with it, add a sufficient quantity! My two soft shell crabs sautéed were actually quite good at $27, and I skipped the rice and had a double order of tasty green beans. My partner had sole stuffed with crab meat and while tasty and a large portion, te sauce turned his syomach. Note: other reviewers have commented on the sauces. The key lime pie at $10 was a small sliver, and while good, was not the awesome dessert some obvious over zealous reviewers have commented on. It should have been priced at $7 or doubled in size. Based on all these factors, I'll continue to go to the numerous other restaurants in East Boca known for their great fish, outstanding service, and 2012 vibe. As I say, we need restaurants for all types of people, but this onand at its price point, and it's location, is a PASS IT UP, not a MUST DINE! more
