0 for 2?...how about 1 for 7 10/25/2010

HORRIBLE. Do you know how you try to like something but it just won’t happen? That’s how I feel about jacks. I can’t fathom how a place can possibly get WORSE every time you go there. I will roll a few of the visits together for you. Of the numerous times we have been there, there has only been 1 truly GOOD experience. Most of the times the staff is blah, not helpful, forgetful, and they seem to be "high maintenance” and stuck up people not down to earth people. First of all....when the place is full of about 6 customers and 6 workers and no one comes to seat you that’s a problem. We finally decided to seat ourselves towards the outside bar and 1/2way there got told we “will be right with you.” Well, where were you 10 minutes ago when we were standing at the door? The waitress seemed frazzled when we wanted to push two tables together so our group could sit together. She didn’t know how to work the umbrellas or frankly was just overwhelmed by the whole put two tables together idea. When you get food or appetizers, should you have to ask for silverware? I ordered a beer from the waitress…..15 minutes go by….its been sitting at the bar. I wanted to go get it but didn’t want to get her in trouble. After all she had a whole 2 tables with 3 other waitresses hanging around doing nothing. I asked her for my beer and she replys “OMG I forgot sorry!” Another time waiting to be seated someone who looked like a manager was on the phone at the hostess desk…fine no big deal but at least acknowledge your customers with a smile or something. We stood there 5 mins before he looked up or the hostess came over. That is just rude from a person to person view not even customer service. Enough about customer service because you can tell there isn’t much there. (when I’ve been there anyway) Prices! Wow next time I’m bringing my uncle Rockefeller out for drinks and food. Let me tell you my $9 shrimp were great. ALL FOUR OF THEM!!! That’s right 4 shrimp for $9 ….o yeah it did have a piece if small lettuce with a tiny deiced up tomato in the center of the plate. Big glasses of mixed drinks get you excited….but its ½ water so calm down. O yeah….sorry we ran out of coors light….yes and corona…..but we have corona light……. All in all its shame because we all live close and we hoped it would be our new hang out. But if its not payday, and you don’t have a mortgage to pay and customer service doesn’t matter to you, by all means this is your place; if not stick to OTTS, clancys or PJS where you can have more then a bite to eat and afford to drink what you really want. This place should drop prices to the real worlds prices and get people that are happy to do their job. Then maybe they might get repeat customers. sorry more

worst bar ever 8/6/2010

This place sucks. bad food. bad service. bartenders must be dating the management because they have no respect to costumers. I 'm done going to this place even though friends know owners. Its a shame staff screws owners. more

loved it!! 7/20/2010

I cant believe what im reading here!!!! I love Jack's!! My freinds and i went to Jack's for New Year's Eve and had a blast! It was really busy, but they had so many extra bars set up, so we never had a problem getting a drink. There was a great buffet that went all night too. I went back last week and it was great. The girls working there are always hot, the food was great, and that outdoor bar is so fun! I totally disagree what im reading on here, go to Jacks! It's great. Pros: friendly staff, great outdoor bar! Cons: crowded more

0 for 2 6/23/2010

I first went to Jack's last year when they opened. Despite friendly recommendations for avoiding Jack's, I went to see if the food was really bad or maybe my friends had been there on a bad night. My first Jack's experience was not horrible like my second. My first time there, my burger was undercooked and my french fries were a bit soggy. The waitress only stopped by our table once after bringing our food for more drinks, but our meal was just about finished. I also noticed the bar area was very small, and the people who were coming in for drinks looked like the cast of "The Jersey Shore". I'll usually give a place a second chance, unfortunately my second trip to Jack's was much worse and was the last time I would ever go there. Not one part of the meal was acceptable. The food was atrocious. I ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. It was cold and there was a bone inside which stabbed me in my upper gum. I immediately waved over a waitress (who I practically had to yell at to get her attention, which was strange because there was hardly anyone in there ) and asked for a manager. The manager was extremely rude to me. He offered me a free drink and said, "Well sometimes we don't get all of the bones out". The other two members of my party were also completely unsatisfied with their food, but the manager offered them nothing. We promptly left Jack's, with a table full of inedible food and headed to PJ Whelihan's. I cannot believe how little these jerks know about hospitality. Unfortunately I can't give 0 stars, because that is what they truly deserve. Please, do not make the same mistake I did of going there! PJ Whelihan's in Washington Twp and Landmark Americana in Glassboro have much better food and friendly management that appreciate the business! Pros: NONE Cons: horrible food, slow service, rude staff and management more

Awful Food 6/20/2010

I usually don't write reviews but I also don't usually find a place to describe as "awful". We went there for Father's Day. I had the father' day menu. On paper it looked great , but the execution was awful. Let's start with the tasteless steamed clams in a nondescript tasteless organgy colored garlic sauce. This was followed by Caesar Salad that was cut so small and was so loaded with dressing that you could not even pick it up with a fork. You had to shovel it on the fork-- no crunch of the ribs of the ramaine-- just soggy -- but you got a lot of it. It was obvious that the person who made this never had a Caesar Salad before. Next, the entree. Overcooked, reheated, gray roast chicken (i think they microwaved it too long to reheat) , on a plate that was covered with ( rather slopped) Mashed potatoes. Grilled Asparagus (these were actually good- just the right texture), all covered with a brown sauce. Dessert was the ultimate in awful. The waitress said there was a new chef and the menu was changing or had changed. Not sure what she meant but she offered baked Alaska. Now I have had Baked Alaska in this restaurant when it was called Blues Eyes and it was pretty darn good. Today, it tasted and looked nothing like it. It looked like a jar of marsh mellow fluff had been poured into a plate covered with Hersey's Chocolate. No browning of the meringue, no flambe. I put my spoon in and found no ice cream. I tried again, no ice cream. Finally, on the third try, I found a scoop of chocolate Ice cream and crumbs like broken Oreo's. enough was enough. I sent it back. If this was the "new chef" these guys are in deep trouble. Now for the others at my table. My daughter got grilled chicken with tomatoes and mozzarella. You could make this into a really good dish and the ability to make the presentation terrific is wonderful with these ingredients, noooo, the people who run this place have no vision at all. They put textured, prepackaged and pre-grilled chicken pieces in a small bowl. They poured in some cherry tomatoes and poured in some mozzarella balls (you know- the kind you get at the supermarket). That was it. My wife got the ST Louis ribs and they were very tender but tasteless. No dry rub or seasoning-- just the bottled barbecue sauce (which by the way was the best part of the dinner. Needless to say, we will not be back until we see a sign saying "under new management". Pros: Good Asparagus- tender Ribs Cons: Food was not good and not sure owner realizes how bad it is more

Great Atmosphere! 5/11/2010

This place is definitely a great place to grab a couple drinks but still be able to bring your family for a good night out. There are TVs all over the restaurant where you watch any game at any time. Over the past couple months I have been planning my staff happy hours at Jacks. They definitely worked with me to make sure that my fellow coworkers will enjoy their time. They placed the bar tables together and had them waiting for me with wristbands each time I came in. Now I am constantly asked when we are having our next happy hour! They Loved IT! The entire staff are very friendly and helpful! I also hosted my mother's birthday party at Jacks. The servers allowed me to put any decorations up that I wanted. They came in early to help me decorate. The server was very attentive and sweet. She definitely made sure my mother had a great time. Throughout the courses the chef came out to greet the party and asked how the food was. They did not rush the party at all. The food came out quickly but at the perfect time. The food was excellent and the environment was perfect. The price of the entire party was reasonable and completely worth it. I will definitely recommend Jacks! I definitely feel that all ages would enjoy this place! It is an upper scale sports bar that is classy! more

WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER! 4/23/2010

This place is just awful! First of all, almost everyone that works there seems a little "slow." It was a Friday night and we arrived a little before 8:30pm. When we requested a table for 3, we were told the wait would be 25 minutes. Fine, no problem, but then our wait was over that time by quite a bit. I would have maybe understood this if the place looked busy at all but the restaurant looked slower than a regular night at any other restaurant. My friend finally asked how much longer it would take before we were seated and at that moment our table freed up. We ordered our appetizer and drinks immediately since we were pretty hungry at this point. Our waitress apologized for the drinks taking so long and stating that it's a busy night. I still don't understand this "busy" they were speaking of. The brie appetizer which was just essentially a 3rd of brie round melted in an oven but they only gave us 8 little slices of bread for all this cheese. When I requested more, I was told that she's not sure if they can do that because each order is individually made. I'm sorry it looked like you took a baguette and sliced some pieces off of it, I'm sure you could slice a few more. Our meals took over a half hour to come out. We all ordered burgers with fries. I also asked the waitress if the turkey burger was a turkey patty (in other words is it that froken solid crap) or is a ground turkey (those nice delicious browned turkey burgers). She said ground turkey, so I ordered it. It came out, and it was a turkey patty. As our food was coming out, it was initially brought to the wrong table. The food was not good at all and came out lukewarm. Also, an item was missing from my friend's order. Instead, of the waitress coming down in a timely manner we had to track someone else down and request the missing item from my friend's meal. Finally after being there so long we were ready to leave if our waitress would ever come back and give us our check. My friend went to close her tab at the bar and get her card back. The bartender handed her a pen to sign the check, which ended up exploding on her hands and getting ink on one of her favorite shirts. Essentially ruining her shirt. At this point things were just ridiculous. My friend voiced her dissatisfaction to our waitress and asked if she could speak to someone. The waitress seemed confused and said "let me see who you can talk to." This was utterly dumb, she should have immediately said "I will get the manager." The manager finally came over after another long wait. This man also seemed to not understand restaurant hospitality. My friend told him about the pen and general dissatisfaction with food. He offered to pay for dry cleaning, telling my friend to bring the dry cleaning bill to him. He then tried to offer us another round of drinks to which all of us at the table at once said "NO!" and told him we just wanted to get out of the restaurant, we had been there long enough. At this point the manager should have comped something on our bill. Finally, my friend suggested that we should get our round of drinks free since he was going to comp us another one and we agreed it would have made sense instead of her having to drive back for him to pay a $2 dry cleaning bill. We waited a while for our waitress and once again she was nowhere to be found. At this point, there were only 6 people left in the restaurant portion of Jack's having dinner. Where was our waitress?! My friend decided to go up to the main desk to pay and ask for the drinks to be taken off the bill. Before leaving, my friend had to visit the ladies room in which most of the stalls had no toilet paper. We didn't end up getting out of Jack's until around 10:45pm. This was the WORST experience I have ever had at a restaurant and I would suggest people RUN not walk away from this place. Pros: none Cons: bad service, bad food, watery drinks, incompetent staff more

Disappointing 4/14/2010

Jack's Bar and Grill recently opened, having replaced Blue Eye's Restaurant which was a good place but overpriced, and in the end it was probably price that killed ol' Blue Eyes. I live only a stone's throw from the place, and was hoping for good food, maybe even good pub food. My wife and I weren't expecting fantastic food but we had hope. When we arrived the restaurant is beautiful and staff friendly. The place was mostly empty with a reasonably full bar but we were looking for dinner. The menu is small but frankly, I prefer a smaller menu as it often means the food is better since the kitchen is not overwhelmed with a huge variety of food items and recipes. This was not to be the case. My wife ordered a salad, described on the menu as mixed greens, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette. What was delivered was a bowl of spinach leaves and a couple sad slices of tomato, with a side of vinegar not vinaigrette. Upon mentioning what we thought was a mix up, we were told the kitchen was out of mixed greens and cherry tomatoes and made a substitution. For an entree, my wife ordered ahi tuna, which was not available - so my wife ordered the "special" recommended by the waitress, chicken napoleon. When the dish arrived, the chicken pieces were flat as a pizza, with cheese burned to the chicken. It looked like a mini pizza and was terrible. I ordered the salmon which was okay. it had no flavor but it was cooked nicely, it sat on a bed fo rice which had not been properly strained, so the rice was watery and the entire entree was sitting in a puddle of water. I managed to eat most to it with some help from my wife. We were really hungry because if we had not been, we would not have eaten the fish either. The waitress stopped over a number of times asking if everything was okay. After complaining about the salad and getting the explanation they were out of mixed greens and then no ahi tuna, we felt a little tired of complaining and kept our remarks to ourselves. To compliment a terrible dinner, we ordered a couple desserts. My wife got the tiramisu and I ordered the brownie sundae. The tiramisu was huge, a very generous portion but inedible. It looked rather nice but tasted just awful. My brownie sundae was good up to the brownie, which was also terrible. Thank god they did not make their own ice cream or that would have been bad too. The waitress brought us our bill, $55 and asked for me to fill out the feedback card because the owners really wanted to know how the food was. I completed it with comments and contact information. I really had hoped that someone would call me but I guess my comments were enough. I was very kind. We live only a mile away and had high hopes this would be our regular place. It seems impossible that making such simple dishes like a salad, chicken napoleon or salmon and rice would be done do badly. Then to make inedible desserts was another surprise as there are so many quality prepared frozen desserts available to restaurants. I can't imagine the restaurant is going to survive. It would take an immediate turnaround of the menu, a new chef and a serious marketing campaign to get former customers to try them again. I wish them the best of luck but they will have to do it without my patronage, at least for now. Pros: Location Cons: Everything other than location more

Bad food, watery drinks, dismal customer service 3/6/2010

I went to Jack's last night with three friends and each one of us was disappointed with our experience. I'll try to break down every disappointing aspect of our first - and last - visit to Jack's Bar and Grille. Drinks: When we first arrived there was only one bartender, which was fine, since the bar wasn't busy at all. Slowly but surely more and more young women who worked there started showing up behind the bar, just standing around and getting in the way. A guy who appeared to be a manager showed up and was acting like a jerk, talking loudly, badmouthing both customers and his own waitstaff, and just generally trying to act like a bigshot. While our bartender was nice, she wasn't an experienced bartender, having to peek at the drink menu to figure how how to make drinks. Also, our drinks were weak. My friend's White Russian looked - and tasted - like milky water. My martinis were okay, though, I'll give them that. None of the young women appeared to know how to work the computers or the remote control to the TV's around the bar. Food: The food was pretty bad. The turkey in my turkey club was slimy, I think it was pre-packaged lunch meat. The bread was dry and falling apart. I found quite a few still-frozen french fries mixed in with my cooked french fries. The pickle that came with my meal was good (hey, I'm trying to be as nice as I can). A friend had the pork sliders, he said those were pretty good. We weren't provided with any silverware or napkins so I ended up grabbing some cocktail napkins from behind the bar. Overall Experience: Overall my experience at Jack's Bar and Grille was poor enough that I never intend on going back there, and neither do my friends, which is unfortunate because we all live nearby and would have gone there frequently if it was an enjoyable place to dine and drink. more

Over rated and a disappointment 3/29/2008

We went last night, a saturday night. I was excited that my boyfriend wanted to go. We drove 45 minutes to get there. We were greeted by a really sweet hostess, bt it was all down hill from there. My $10 bananas foster martini was one of the worst drinks I had tasted. It was supposed to be rimmed with brown sugar, mine was rimmed with cinnamon and a hefty price of $10. We ordered two appetizers. Both were presented beautifully and the grilled portabella was good. The crab dumplings were served with cold unseasoned lump crab meat. I was disappointed at the limited selections for entrees and we were not offered any other specials to choose from. Dinner was a huge disappointment. I had the stuffed chicken. It was supposed to be stuffed with smoked mozzarella, shitake mushrooms, and sundried tomatoes. There was no cheese and stuffed meant placed under the layer of skin. It was an overwhelmingly strong rosemary flavor, but to their credit the chicken was moist. My boyfriend had the lobster ravioli which is topped with shrimp. The dish was very fishy tasting and not worth eating. We chose two desserts;bananas foster and bread pudding. I am not sure what to expect with bread pudding but it tasted bland.(maybe that's the way it should taste). The other dessert was bananas foster. The presentation of the flambe was very impressive. The waitress poured the flaming syrup over the ice cream. The couple next to us wanted to help us with our dessert. We should have let them eat it. The alcohol in the bananas foster is supposed to burn off. They might as well have just served a glass of rum over ice cream. We were charged for a side salad that was never served and every other table received bread and butter but us. Our bill for one martini, two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts was $130. A little steep for the quality and service or lack there of. I wouldn't go back. I think it was over rated. more
