Great food but RUDE staff!!! 4/17/2010

I took my fiance to a very expensive lunch for his birthday. Being only a party of two and during the slow lunch time, the food was great and what I've come to expect from the restaurant. However this particular day the waitress was adequate, was not completely attentive and outstanding, but was O.K.... until after i signed the check with what I thought was an adequate tip. After I had to leave the table and she collected the bill, she looked at the bill and made a comment to my fiance (who's birthday it was) ""This isn't even 1%"". It was far beyond one percent and although a bit low for the total of the bill, I didn't feel she needed an outstanding tip. When I learned about this after the fact I WISHED that I had been the one she told. I don't understand the entitlement she felt and the nerve she had to actually say something about a tip... something that is not mandatory as it was. So all in all, we won't be going back to this location and I regret not being able to rip up the bill and leaving her absolutely nothing. Pros: Awesome steak and beer Cons: Service was rude more

the beer @ JT's is the nectar of the GODS 5/15/2009

The service is impecable! The food is not only excellent but served in rather large portions!!!! The brewmaster really knows what us ""hopheads"" really like, strong bitter beer!!! Oh yea if you belly up to the bar you'll be tended to by one of the best bartenders on earth! Lisa the ""Beer Goddess of Love"" Pros: once you try the IPA you'll be hooked more

Beware!! 6/18/2008

I have been going to JT Schmids for years. The last 2 times made me really sick!!! Great asmosphere, but beware of getting really sick! more

Not Good at All 5/14/2008

The food was simply awful and the food was cold....even the ""warm"" brownie dessert was cold...\r They could have at least tossed the brownie in the microwave since the menu claims its ""warm""\r We were very disappointed. The Shrimp appetizers had a ""fishy"" taste...oh I cringe recalling the taste.\r I don't even want to recall the dinner....I had the chicken and my hubby had ribs....all I can say is I don't recommend either dish....or the garlic mash potatoes...even those were bland...the best thing was the\r ""lifesaver"" Martini.....very yummy....but I had to argue with the waitress that they make the drink..it's on their internet menu...but not on the menu at the restrautant. Pros: Yummy drinks Cons: food is bland more

Terrible food, terrible customer service. 8/29/2007

This place is terrible! We had a party of 8 and were seated in the bar area (the only place they could seat 8 people). Complaint #1: it was nearly pitch black. It was so dark we couldn?t read our menus. We used the backlights in our cell phones to read them.\r \r I ordered the ribeye steak ?medium rare?. The server told us that they undercook their steaks so if I really want medium rare (pink and warm), I should order ?medium? instead. At her suggestion, I did that. After taking our order, the server left.\r \r Complaint #2: our order took 35 minutes, a surprise since JT?s was nearly empty. Also, once the food was placed in the service window, it sat there for another 5 minutes before our server delivered it. Heat lamps don?t do much for freshly-cooked food.\r \r Complaint #3: upon receiving my steak, I found it to be very tough and dry. Since it was so dark, I couldn?t confirm how it was cooked. I used my cell phone to confirm that my steak was ?well done? (all brown). Even so, a ribeye steak is quite fatty and a prime ribeye should be more so. Even a well done prime ribeye should be somewhat tender but it wasn?t (which is why I doubt they serve USDA Prime steaks as they boast). My steak was inedible. The erver apologized, said she would replace it, and took my plate away.\r \r Complaint #4: after 10 minutes, another employee returned and put a plate in front of me. To my surprise, it was not a new meal. He brought the same plate I sent back to the kitchen (same steak, same potatoes, same onion rings). Upon putting my plate down, he said ?it?s medium? and walked away. Now I was sitting with the same burnt steak I got the first time, now 10 minutes colder and tougher.\r \r I?ve worked in the service industry for years and I shouldn?t have to tell you that if a customer isn?t happy with their food, it should be replaced, or comped, or both. For them to take away my meal only to return the same food after 10 minutes is pathetic. This place doesn?t deserve your business.\r Pros: Decent onion rings Cons: Horrific customer service more

Great Place Across From Honda Center 12/18/2006

JT Schmid's is located immediately across the street from the Honda Center; it's easy to walk to from the Center. \r \r It's similar to a BJ's Brewery but a bit more upscale. I was in a party of 6 on a concert night. The restaurant is big an open and nicely decorated. The food was excellent. Various members of party had steak, linguine, a burger, and a sandwich. They were very good about handling a special order (customized pasta dish for someone with allergies to tomatoes) and everything was very tasty. Beware: portions are huge. I admit that no one in our party complained about that. Quality was great and each dish was perfectly accompanied by appropriate sides. \r \r I was the only one in the party to sample the microbrew; I had a fantastic Hefeweizen. Yummy!\r \r The one mistake we made was dessert. We ordered three desserts to split. We could have shared them with two other tables and still had leftovers. Again, quality was great and quantity was enormous. The best of the bunch was the fantastic sorbet trio followed by a fabulous brownie and then the apple pizza. The brownie had a generous portion of ice cream and plenty of whipped cream and such. The apple pizza was huge but I didn't care for the pizza crust. \r \r Even when the place was at full capacity, I don't recall noise being an issue. We chatted comfortably throughout out 2 hour dinner. There is no doubt I will recommend this place to friends and I will be back next time I'm in the area. Pros: Convenient Parking, Great Food, Good Variety Cons: Can't Think of Any more

Convenient, almost classy watering hole for sports fans 6/21/2006

The words ""classy"" and ""sports bar"" rarely go together, but somehow at JT Schmid's it does. Conveniently located near Angels Stadium, the Grove at Anaheim and Arrowhead Pond, JT Schmid's is of course, busy and buzzin' on game day. Dark wood and comfy booths on the inside, a breezy patio on the outside offers many options for seating. A great selection of in-house brewed beers, tasty appetizers, big ole' burgers (a buffalo burger is available for you urban cowboys) and nice messy ribs too. And sure, this is the O.C. so there's edamame and some semi-sophisticated salads too. There's a decent kids' menu too that pleased the 5-year olds in our party. A pleasant surprise after a long hot day at Disneyland. Pros: Pretty good food, appetizers and beer. Nice yet casual ambiance. Close to stadiums Cons: Can be busy on game days. Parking can be difficult, tho there is a large dirt lot in back more

Brewpub near Disney? Cool! 1/10/2003

Managed to check this place out while visiting Anaheim and it is not a bad brewpub. We went during lunch so there were not too many people there. They offer a sampler of all the beers available for $8.00. Their beers are above average but nothing really stood out as spectacular. The Stout was pretty good, as was the IPA. I would recommend this brewpub if you are in the Convention Center/Disney hotels area as it is a cheap cab ride. The food was pretty decent too. more
