Great food, bad music 5/22/2007

This is my first review. Ippei is one of my favorite Japanese food restaurants in the Phoenix area, but I have one issue with the atmosphere. When it first opened, authentic Japanese music was played. Recently they began playing classic American rock etc. Not the greatest in my opinion. The Japanese music was a great way to escape from everyday American idiosyncrasy. The sushi is delicious and fresh and the veggie and meat skewers are flavorful, but the price for the skewers is much too high for the amount of food you get. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. Friday and Saturday nights are perfect. There is a lot going on but not so much to the point where you have to wait 30 minutes for a table. Good stuff. Ippei Has It All 5/22/2007

The freshest sushi, lightest Katsu and excellent Kushiyaki (grilled meat, seafood and vegetables) keeps us coming back every week. There is something to please everyone. Also, check out the yummy flourless chocolate cake. Gourmet dining in a casual atmosphere. Uum, getting hungry! more

Great Atmosphere! 5/21/2007

I am not a huge fan of Japanese food usually, but I tried Ippei and was highly impressed. They actually had a few vegetarian items on the menu which are delicious, especially the tempura vegetables. Very glad they are open for lunch time now! This is definitely one of the best decorated restaurants in Scottsdale. Great customer service and delicious food. Devine desserts also, my favorite was the chocolate cake. Try it out! Pros: Ambience & desserts Cons: Sushi portions a little small more

Nice ambiance with private and cozy seating. The sushi is very fresh with a wide variety of selections. I also enjoyed the tempura which had a very good dipping sauce. The food is fresh and very creative upon receiving. I like the lighting which is slightly dim and the furniture looks very authentic with the style and colors. I like how there are curtains around some of the booths for privacy. Pros: sushi and ambience Cons: small and may need reservations more

I NEVER WENT TO A JAPANESE RESTAURANT BEFORE IPPEI AND THE IDEA OF SUSHI DID NOT THRILL ME. IPPEI HAS CHANGED ALL THAT. FROM THE FIRST TIME I WENT IN AND THE SERVERS AND OWNER SPENT ALL THE TIME I NEEDED EXPLAINING THE DISHES TO ME, I WAS HOOKED. THE FOOD IS A NEW EXPERIENCE - THE FLAVORS WONDERFUL. EVERYTHING IS FRESH, TOP-QUALITY AND PREPARED PERFECTLY - THEY EVEN HAVE AN AUTHENTIC JAPANESE CHEF. THEY ADD NEW THINGS TO THE MENU ON A REGULAR BASIS . great sushi and ambience 5/21/2007

The ambience is nice and cozy and the lighting is very dim and relaxing. The furniture and decor really feel like you're in Japan and there are curtains hanging near some of the booths for privacy. The sushi is very fresh and creative upon being served. The choices of sushi are plenty and the tempura is very good along with the dipping sauce. The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. I would suggest making reservations in the evening and weekends. It's located in a very convenient shopping center in Scottsdale with the movies nearby. There is a window where the cooks prepare the food and it's fun to watch as I did on my way to the restrooms. Pros: lots of parking, ambience a plus and great sushi Cons: may need reservations on weekends just to be safe more

Best sushi by far!! 5/21/2007

Ok, my husband and I are from San Diego and have tried MANY sushi places, but this one definetly beats all the rest. The fish is ALWAYS super fresh, and the staff are always sooooo nice. The owner is almost always there, which is nice to see an owner take so much pride in his work. I reccomend this place 100%...you won't find better sushi anywhere in Phoenix!!! Pros: Happy hour menu is great! Cons: maybe a little more selection on the hand rolls more

Best Happy Hour 5/20/2007

The food and choices during Happy Hour can't be beat. Sushi is the freshest I have tasted in the valley and service by the bartender is exemplary. Menu items are also terrific. Try the Sashimi plate! Pros: Happy Hour, Prices, Service Cons: Crowds more

Ippei is by far the best sushi is town. We have eaten at about every place in town and it is our favorite. The atmosphere is great and the decor of the place is very upscale and modern. We eat there once or twice a week, they have great happy hour specials and late night specials as well. If you don't like sushi the have great food for everyone. Pros: Food, Music & Decor more
