Reliable sushi 6/13/2007

We've found Ippei to be a sushi place we can depend on to offer fresh seafood and a great atmosphere. We usually order the same thing so we have come to expect good service, good selection and good selection. We've recommended Ippei to our friends and out of town relatives and they have also expressed their satisfaction. So go. You won't be dissapointed. Pros: Location, atmosphere, menu selection Cons: Occasionally a server's perfume will compete with the food. more

Love, Love, Love It! 6/7/2007

Simply Delectable Japanese Dishes! 6/7/2007

Since finding a good Japanese restuarant in the Scottsdale/Carefree area is not a easy task, I was more than a little excited when I saw Ippei first opening up. Even better than that, though, was that my expectations were exceeded during my first visit. I'm not a sushi person, so I can't tell you anything about that - but everything else that I have tried has been wonderful. The prices add up quickly, just to warn you though. The appetizers in particular are oddly over-priced given the genereal affordability of everthing else. I tried one once, delicious little crab cakes which they unfortunately no longer offer, however and they just might be worth the stab at your wallet. Aside from that, I actually had the Oriental Salad during my last visit. I usually never want to spend the money at a restaurant to buy something I could just as easily made at home - and for a lot less, but this salad was well worth it. The dressing they used was interesting and tastey and I loved the addition of the finely chopped fried wontons. The kabobs are so far my favorite thing there. I'm a big beef eater, and I was certainly pleased by the tender and well-flavored steak used. I would also recommend the fried rice, as it has that more buttery garlic sort of taste that you aren't going to find at a Chinese restaurant. If I would have to complain about anything other than the price I would probably warn you that the accoustics in the restaurant are such that it gets rather noisy without even that many people in there yet. Also, so far there's been at least one error in my order, but it doesn't bother me much because they were quick to fix it. Just so we don't leave off on a bad not, because this is certainly one I would highly recommend, I shall also comment on the nice atmosphere (noise aside). I'm not typically a fan of modern decor, but they pull it off quite well - giving it a comfortable yet intriguing feel. Pros: great tasting, ambience, speed of service, menu choices Cons: price, noise level more

Great Food 6/3/2007

Excellent food at reasonable prices. Flexible hours are also very attractive. Soft Sheel crab appetizer is a real winner. Salads are huge and serve 2 easily. We go there often and also enjoy happy hour. however, wish bar stools had backs to support our aging backs. Pros: great food, good prices Cons: bar stools should have backs for happy hour more

Great atmosphere and amazing food at very affordable prices. 6/1/2007

This place is fun, funky, and has AMAZING food at ridiculous prices! We took a group 8 friends over the holdays and they were very impressed with the service and the quality of the food. They raved and carried on about how good the sushi was. My husband and I love the Kobe fried rice. I highly receommend Ippei for drinks or a meal with friends. more

Yuumy Sushi 5/31/2007

I enjoyed Ippei. I thought the atmosphere was really nice and it is nice because it is close to the movie theatre. The service is really good. The only thing I would recommend, is to have a larger selection of sushi, otherwise I would definately go again!! Pros: atmosphere Cons: need a larger selection of sushi more

The best Japanese food in Phoenix 5/31/2007

Ippei is a fantastic Japanese restaurant. They offer great customer service and there menu does change from time to time which helps keep the number of selections fresh. Thier food is excellent and prices are very reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Pros: Food, Service , and Overall Ambience Cons: That I can`t go there more often more

Enjoyable diversity of sushi 5/30/2007

We had better servce both times we sat at the tables versus the slow service at the bar even though they werent busy for happy hour. The waitress seemed to have a problem with a larger party of 8 people. The sushi is enjoyable and they have a great selection at happy hour. more

Paradise for Adventurous Eaters Who Want to Try Everything 5/29/2007

Ippei is a fabulous little restaurant for people who love Japanese and Japanese Fusion cuisine but want to try a little something, or a few little somethings, that isn?t sushi. Of course, they do have a very nice sushi menu besides their delightful assortment of yakitori, noodles, fried rice and the best chicken katsu in town. The servers and bartenders are very well trained and familiar with the menu to the point of great enthusiasm. I personally don?t care to sit along the server aisle to the left of the restaurant as it gives a feeling of being in the way, but I would gladly put up with the foot traffic to eat there. Pros: Great food, knowledgeable staff, exciting and different dining experience Cons: Some places nicer to sit than others, easy to spend hours munching and lose track of time more

For an upscale lunch with decent prices, try Ippei Japanese Bistro 5/29/2007

When you walk into Ippei you'll be warmly greeted and seated in tastefully stylish little bistro. The food is very fresh and tasty. I especially enjoy their lettuce wraps and California rolls. I'll be heading back soon to try their Kobe burgers. It was fairly quiet when I was there, but I imagine that place gets hopping! If you like Japanese food, definitely give Ippei a try. Pros: Great Atmosphere Cons: Little Pricey more

A Little Bit of Everything 5/28/2007

I always like getting sushi but it can take awhile waiting at restaurants and can be a little pricey. At Ippei you get right in and the service is very friendly and fast. What I like the best is the Japanese "tapas-esque" food, is that you can get a little bit of everything for a little price, compared to other places. I always pop into Ippei when I get a chance, especially when they send me all the coupons through email. more

Great Sushi! 5/28/2007

Ippei has great sushi, some of the freshest fish in town. A great place to go if you don't want to wait forever for a table. The service was better when they first opened but the food is so good it hasn't deterred us any. Pros: Comfy spacious booths, no waiting and fresh fish Cons: average service more

Fantastic Sushi and Wasabi Margaritas 5/28/2007

love the bacon asparagus 5/27/2007

Ippei Bistro is a nice environment with great appetizers. My husband and I loved the bacon wrapped asparagus and we love trying the chef?s creations. The food is great, a little over priced, but definitely a place we go when we are on that side of town. Pros: food and appetizers Cons: sometimes slow service more

Fresh Sushi @ Its Finest!!! 5/26/2007

The sushi was truly amazing; fresh and extremely flavorful. Going on a Friday night might not be beneficial because of the wait but on a lazy Sunday afternoon...don't pass it by!!! It's small, quaint, and delicious!!! Pros: Fresh Cons: Wait more

Not just sushi 5/25/2007

This is my first review. My wife and I went to Ippei Japanese Bistro several weeks ago in the late afternoon. The ambience and decor were very pleasant. We have been to many sushi restaurants here in phoenix. I like traditional sushi, my wife does not. The menu here was varied enough that we were both able to enjoy the dishes that we each favor. The fish was very fresh and the service excellent as well. I would highly recommend Ippei Japanese Bistro. more

Great customer service, very friendly 5/24/2007

I went to Ippei on my anniversary and had a delightful time. The service was great! Our waitress was fast and attentive she got everything right and even remembered who ordered what! The food was amazing! Everything we ordered was freah and delicious! The atmosphere is modern and welcoming, it is decorated in such a unique different way. Pros: amazing service Cons: not a wide variety of food to choose from more

Ippei: Amazing all around 5/23/2007

Authentic Japanese cuisine is hard to come by in, say, the Arizonan desert. The owners of the Japanese bistro chain named Ippei set out to fix just that. Ippei (pronounced EE-pay) sticks with its promise of authenticity by shipping talented chefs directly from Japan to Scottsdale. With the large, open kitchen and sushi bar not even three feet from the seating within the restaurant, visitors can watch as their meals are prepared. The entire Ippei staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. All the waiters know each of the menu selections inside and out, and ensure all visitors that the chefs choose only the best meats and fish to use in their dishes. Everyone from the front door to the kitchen is exceptionally welcoming and willing to help you try something new. Don?t expect the average appetizer-meal-dessert experience at Ippei, though. You can order any item from the menu at any time, whether it is the kushiyaki (grilled skewers), katsu (breaded meat or fish cutlets), or sushi, all of which you can enjoy with the many delectable dipping sauces found only at Ippei. All of the selections are easily shared. Ippei has an amazing selection of sushi, and although every item is fantastic, a favorite off of the restaurant?s new menu would have to be the spider rolls. Two non-sushi favorites include the marinated, miso-glazed black cod fish ($10.95) and Shiro?s Wrap ($10), baked soy paper handrolls packed with a zesty crab mix. Both of these are prepared specially by the well-known Seattle chef, Shiro Kashiba. Ippei?s simplistic, Japanese-inspired decor adds to the experience. The restaurant has a quiet, soothing ambiance and a very interesting selection of music softly playing throughout the restaurant as guests speak in hushed voices and enjoy the delicious cuisine. Although it is easy to unknowingly end up with a large bill by ordering several items from the menu, Ippei is quite a find. There?s something for everyone. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: pricing on certain items, watery iced tea more
