Best

First, we were told about this restuarant by an Italian businessman here. His first words to my wife were- ""are you and your husband used to Italian food cooked by Italians? "" ...

Worst

During our recent vacation to Las Vegas, my wife and I tried Il Fornaio, based on favorable reviews we read on the Internet. What a disappointment! This place is the Olive Garde...

So delish! 2/4/2010

I was nervous to try a restaurant I had heard of before. The reviews on here are correct about this place for the most part. The bread is SO awesome, and FRESH! We ordered Calamari for an appetizer, the best I've had. I tasted every dish we ordered, 5 in total and they were all awesome! The price is very reasonable for the Las Vegas area. 15-25 a person. I highly recommend it! more

Great place to eat for something fast 12/8/2009

Myself and my wife ate here for dinner on Saturday night and we were able to get right in and seated. Waiters were very attentive. We both ordered pasta with waters no drinks and it came to $46 which included tip. The food came out in about ten minutes. It was rather plain tasting but was hot and was enough to satisfy. The best part was it is in the casino area of New York New York and we sat outside the restaurant area. The ambiance was nice andwe were able to people watch the whole time. If your looking for quick, good service and afordable this place fits the bill Pros: Quick, no reservations needed. Great service Cons: bland food kinda pricey for the tatse more

Italian Food for Those used to Italian Food, Not for Americans used to Olive Garden or Pizza Hut, etc. 9/22/2008

First, we were told about this restuarant by an Italian businessman here. His first words to my wife were- ""are you and your husband used to Italian food cooked by Italians? "" My wife replied that I was.\r \r We have eaten at this place since 2003 every year except 2007,as my wife had cancer last year. We ate here last Friday Sep 19, 2008, and; the food was every bit as good or better as I remembered it. I did notice that the Italians who normally bring out the oil and bread to dip the bread in were absent.\r \r The olive oil is awesome and tasty. I normally order linquine with mussels, shrimp. scallops, cooking in mussel/clam like juice, with a hint of fatback,/pork, chopped tomatoes, and very spicy seasoning. I love it.\r \r My wife prefers cheese and spinich stuffing in shells or in lasagna. She is always happy to eat there. The bread is good, but; I am no bread expert. I do know about olive oil, and; their oil suits my taste and my wife loves it. My wife loves their bread, too. \r \r I think service has a lot to due with what time of day one arrives. I had better service around 5-7 PM then 4 PM. To summarize, I would highly recommend this place to those who are used to Italian food the old way. Pros: Best for the price of anywhere we know of in Las Vegas. Cons: The service was slower this year more

The Olive Garden at twice the price. 9/22/2007

During our recent vacation to Las Vegas, my wife and I tried Il Fornaio, based on favorable reviews we read on the Internet. What a disappointment! This place is the Olive Garden at twice the price. The bread was not even close to the quality we can get at dozens of Italian bakeries in Philadelphia. My lasagne was tasteless, meager and the sauce tasted like it was from a jar. My wife had penne in a blush or vodka sauce which had congealed into a state of sticky, unappetizingness. Our Maragaritas (at $11.00 each) were a blend of amaretto and normal margarita ingredients. I'll give points for originality but not for taste. I understand this chain is from the West Coast. I can only hope that Californians have better Italian restaurants than Il Fornaio. Pros: Ambience (restaurant is in the casino) is nice. Cons: The food was less than mediocre. more

Super Brunch 9/19/2007

My wife and I stay at NYNY quite often and the first time we had brunch (breakfast) I ordered UOVA ALLA BENEDETTINA ie eggs benedict and I have to say this was quite possible the best eggs benedict I have ever had. Super service with outstanding coffee...what more could you ask for? After experiencing this we decided on diner the next day at Il Fornaio. I ordered the authentic pizza, which reminded me of my time in Sicily and the wife ordered the linguine dish with all the seafood, both were very very good for the reasonable price we paid. Why pay top dollar at the chic Italian places when Il Fornaio is just as good. The seating is best on the patio as it gets a little crowded inside. The wine was reasonable and the service let us enjoy our meal. We are going back in October more

Horrendous service and no compensation from management. 7/27/2007

Albeit that I recieve lackluster service because young people don't tip as nicely as older patrons, Il Fornaio has provided me the worst service I have ever had. Our waiter (eduardo aka Eddie) completely ignored us once we refused to have wine with our meal. We had to ask for our drinks, our bread, our entree orders, and everything else along with that. I come to a nice Las Vegas restaurant to be served! I was highly diappointed when the check was brought and we found out we were overcharged about 20.00 b/c of ""computer errors."" Well it took about 20 minutes and two trys to get this resolved. At the end of this 2 1/2 hr meal we expressed our dislike of our meal and asked if we could be compensated for all our time spent waiting for our bill. He replied with a, ""I'll see what I can do."" When we got a final check, the manager never came back and never gave us compensation. I understand that in a city with comps and free things everywhere, it would totally be assumed that we were a bunch of kids looking for a free meal; however, when you are treated so poorly when others around you are having a nice meal you can't help but feel you are being mistreated and misserved. I couldn't believe such an establishment like this exists in Las Vegas. At least the food was great. Pros: Good Food Cons: Horrible Service and Management more

Good casual dining without leaving the casinos 11/13/2006

I must admit, after reading mixed reviews on Il Fornaio (Las Vegas) I was hesitant to eat there. However....sometimes you have to read between the lines with reviewers. If they happen to experience a waiter who spilled their water, then the entire meal was a disaster. (but was their meal good?) Other customers expect top-notch prime rib at a standard Italian restaurant. I figure if they feature pastas and pizza -- then order accordingly. Go to a steakhouse for a good steak or prime rib. Remember, this is a restaurant in a casino...trying to please a variety of palates at a decent price. If you want a particularly bland or spicy dish, ask the waiter for recommendations. My husband ordered a pizza and I ordered a calzone. The pizza was very flavorful. My calzone was good and generous in size -- not unforgettable in taste, but good. We took our chances choosing to sit in the patio, where smoking was allowed. The ambiance of this area was very nice -- and it was 'open air' (to the rest of the casino) so we didn't notice the smoke. The little river running by the patio tables was charming. Fortunately for us, the one person near us who WAS smoking didn't bother our meal. IL FORNAIO is a casual restaurant in a casual casino, serving a variety of standard Italian entrees. If you are looking for truly authentic, award-winning fare, you need to go to a more upscale restaurant. It depends on what your expectations are before you even sit down. Our overall experience at this restaurant was quite pleasant and our waiter was kind and efficient. Pros: Nice, casual ambiance. more

Wonderful food 12/27/2002

Great food & wine, attentive server, good ambiance. Overall, a first-rate experience at a reasonable price. Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance more

Super experience 8/16/2002

Having just arrived in Las Vegas, we wanted a nice lunch before heading out to the strip. This restaurant fit the bill perfectly. The bread was to die for (I bought their cookbook at the bakery), the pasta delicious (and lots of it), and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice considering we were on the patio and the casino was only 20 feet away separated by a ""canal"". It was actually very nice to watch the people; the water provided enough buffer from the noise of the slots. Our waiter, Scott, was freindly but not over solicitous. Overall, an excellent meal which set the tone for our first day in LV. Pros: fresh baked bread more

Solid italian food. 6/12/2002

Ate lunch at the NY-NY location with a friend last fall. The free bread they give is fantastic! Lunch menu is small but the food is pretty good. Ask for a table on the patio for some sweet people-watching. Pros: quality food Cons: not for cheapskates, small menu more
