I stayed in the apartments and worked with ikon and was booked the first month with a high end designer and made very good money. Over 8,000 for 4 days work. I will definitely be back after I get out of school. Pros: great money! more

I took my daughter to ikon for 2 summers in a row we are coming back this summer. I can say we truly enjoyed the experience. Sure there were bumps in the road getting started in a new city but all in all-good for my daughter. more

I work freelance with ikon and they are fine. I am older so I wouldn't say to sign an exclusive if you are older and already have many established clients in different cities but I do get work that pays well in advertising and I do get paid. Pros: they always pay more

I was very pleased with the security and location of the building. The doormen would not even let us in with proper ID and we had our own keys. They were a bit extreme. But the rules made us feel safe. Pros: very safe! more

I have worked in this business for a long time with a lot of different agencies. I can tell you first hand that ikon has very good intensions and I personally have made a lot of money with ikon through the years booking huge advertising campaigns. It would be nice if more people reported their success stories. more

I am getting paid on time now I wrote one of the comments a while back and I have to say now that ikon is doing the right thing and paying models faster again I respect this. Even if it does take time to be paid it is reassuring that I will get paid in time. I was also with one of those agencies that closed and I will never see that money so I respect that Ikon is trying to do the right thing in these hard times with the way the economy is.- sorry for the former comment. I am a new model at Ikon I don't know what things were like before but I am very happy working and living in NY I go on plenty of castings and I did not have to sign exclusively either. Pros: no exclusive contracts more

I stayed in ikons apartment twice, once it was a little crowded but now it's changed. Beautiful apartments in an awesome building, now it is less crowded and most importantly we are all working so I love it. That's all us models really want to do is work in this business. Pros: great help to me more

I agree with the majority of these posts that Ikon is a scam. This is by far the WORST agency I have ever been with. I probably know of a dozen girls that they still owe money to. They lure girls to NY saying that they are going to make tons of money/be a famous model/etc. and then after you leave they don't pay you what the owe you. I actually did pretty well with them and made a decent amount of money (only saw half of it). The jobs never paid great compared to any of the other agencies that I have been with. I also know of a few girls that they somehow talked into going to NY to ""lose weight"" and some of these girls had strange relationships with Aristeo thinking that it might get them work. The model apartments are terrible. At one point we had 11 people sharing one shower. We were not told that we were going to be living with Aristeo until we got to NY, and we literally found a little Asian mad living in a CLOSET close to Aristeo's room. So strange... And I know for a FACT Cynthia did some showroom modeling and that was it. She never really was a model. Don't let her fool you. There are tons of great agencies in NY. Don't settle for this one. Pros: our model's apt. was close to a good bakery :) Cons: who wants to work for crooks? more

I was with Ikon and was told I'd be living with 2 girls and I arrived to find bunkbeds everywhere and six people sleeping in a one bedroom apartment paying each over 1000 a month. Downtown Manhattan is NOT that expensive as far as rent goes, so they were making a profit. Whenever we'd go on any castings (which I was later told by former bookers had the sole purpose of shutting models up), the client would request a certain type of girl with either a thin build or muscular, blonde hair or dark, etc., etc to which my whole apartment went on the same castings (we looked nothing alike). Even if we did manage to land a job, we called the clients after the 90 day waiting period for payment had passed only to find out on more than a few occasions that Ikon had taken our earnings, feigning not to know what happened to the money. We dealt with hassles of filling out late payment forms repeatedly, leaving messages for the accountant who doesn't exist..any suggestion I could offer?? You are better off checking out legitimate agencies who don't scam their models or give them the runaround. Many of us work jobs outside of modeling and would have to track down the status of our earnings. Completely unprofessional and unnecessary. Run far away toward agencies in NY that may actually help you, not hurt your career. Pros: Nada Cons: Got a pen and paper? Your hand will hurt from writing a lot. more

I was with Ikon for about 7 months b/w 2006 & 2007. I agree 100% with the review below mine. Ikon is nothing but a joke, they just want your money. They scam poor innocent girls into coming to their agency to ""live their dream"", but only to find out that your ""dream"" is living in New Jersey in a tiny apt with 5 other girls. Are you serious??? They told me I had booked a job with Redken. Sounds good right? HA. When I asked how much I would make from this ""job"", I was told ""you won't get paid any money, however you do recieve a gift basket with Redken hair products."" A GIFT BASKET. Ok. I did not come to New York for a freakin gift basket!!! Wow. The 3 or 4 castings I went on a week were a joke. If I were to book any of those jobs, they wouldn't pay more than $500. How am I supposed to pay my $850 a month rent?? The model housing was rediculous. Stick you way out in New Jersey and make you take the train to and from the city everyday, which you also have to pay for. Come on. I didn't book 1 job the time I was there, which I know isn't my fault. I'm modeling in Tokyo right now, have been here for 2 weeks, and have booked 4 jobs already. Ikon is terrible. Flat out. The few girls that did get jobs, always complained that they never recieved their money, and probably still haven't. Ikon is the sorriest excuse for an agency I have ever heard of. Stay clear!! I know how mothers can also be scammed into this by sending their daughters to New York thinking that they are going to ""make millions"". WRONG! You're better off working as a waitress at Ihop for $2.13 an hour. If Ikon were to burn down, it would be doing the girls in that stupid ""agency"" a favor. Cons: everything more

I have not gotten paid for FOUR jobs and my friend has not gotten paid for about THREE jobs. Incidentally, these were the only ans LAST jobs we ever did for that joke of an agency. IKON is a joke. Owner as well as staff will tell you that ""they are restructuring and will pay as soon as they can"" or ""the economy is so bad right now that we can't pay"". I'm sorry?? What was that? GO STRAIGHT TO THE REAL AGENCIES and try your luck. IKON could never do better than a hair color box anyhow. They will be receiving official complaint from me, if not civil action for payment. (Funny how this site doesn't let you type out the name of the agencies you're going to contact.) Pros: NO PROS AT ALL Cons: EVERYTHING more

I really like Ikon and had a great experience. I know with many agencys the people who book us can take a while to pay but I did always get paid in the end and the jobs were exciting to work on. Pros: they really care about the models and have good jobs to go o more

please dont go this agency!!! i haven't got paid from last year and whenever i call or write to them they never respond and if they do their accountant is always on vacation..so girls and boys becareful !!! more

I once was a model with Ikon, but they did absolutely nothing for me. I moved into their model apartment, where I paid $1200/month to sleep on a bunk bed in a one bedroom apartment with 5 other girls. Not only did we barely get any paid gigs, but we never received payment for the jobs we did do. more

I made pretty good money in N.Y with Ikon they have an acting division too. I was upgraded to a speaking role in a feature film, did some pretty good size advertising campaigns, hair color box and would recommend the agency. It is a tough business and you need to be able to take rejection too. It is fun though! more
