The toughest thing for a woman when relocating to a new area is to find a gynecologist and a hairdresser! When I moved to the Boston area from NYC, I tried a fancy place in Newton Center, then a fancy place on Newbury Street. I was surprised at the mediocre service I got for the price. A friend suggested I see Helen at I.D. salon in Wellesley for my color. It was a bit of a drive for me, but my hair is important! I booked an appt. with Helen (the owner) and described my hair type to the receptionist over the phone - blonde, long, very fine. She suggested Nadia for a cut. Perfect!! Helen has years of experience doing color. She will work with you until you are happy! (And I'm pretty picky!) She is truly a ""specialist"" who knows her craft! Nadia did an amazing job of giving my hair the cut it needed to look fuller and stylish. She's young and energized and competent! I'm so happy to have found the best colorist and best stylist in the area! It's so worth the extra drive! It's not a salon that's ""full of itself"" but a salon that does the job right. I would recommend this salon to everyone with no reservations! more

Worst Service I've Ever Had! 12/17/2011

This is the worst salon experience I've ever had. Truly horrid service. I bought a Groupon and made an appointment. When I checked in, the tacky receptionist asked me to pre-pay for my services. I handed over my Groupon and was told I was all set.\r \r Next thing I know, Nadia has partial highlights in my hair, and the tacky receptionist is demanding $80 more from me. I told her I understood that everything was included in the Groupon, and she said nope, not foils. I asked why no-one said something to me BEFORE putting the foils in. She had no answer to this but suggested I forfeit my haircut if I didn't want to pay more.\r \r I agreed, although I thought it was very wrong. Horrible communications, and had I know what I was paying for, I would have never bought the Groupon.\r \r So after the highlights, Nadia informs me that the shampoo girl is going to finish me up. Amber, the shampoo girl, washes my hair then sits me at a counter to DRY MY OWN HAIR. In a Wellesley Salon.... are you kidding me?\r \r I've never been so humiliated or treated so poorly. Needless to say, I'll never go back and unless you want to pay double what other salons charge, I recommend seeking services elsewhere. more

Best salon anywhere 6/22/2011

I have spent the past 3 1/2 years trying salon after salon all over the greater Boston area... Newbury Street, Wellesley, Concord, you name it, trying to find someone, anyone, who could cut and color my hair in a way I liked since it began growing back in after loosing it to chemo. I am SO THRILLED that I am finally done looking!!! I LOVE id salon. Helen is the most talented colorist I have ever found anywhere, including in L.A. or New York. She took the mess that the last person had made of my color and took the time to figure out how to fix it and make my color something that I love. Will gave me a fabulous cut. I always fear getting the suburban mom cut, and he completely got what I meant by that. What he did isn't trendy or wierd, but it is fun and stylish and my hair looks healthy. He also suggested a keratin treatment, which I did my second time in, and has been great. I have found everyone that works at the salon to be lovely, helpful and very down to earth. I have never had any problems booking anything. I love that there is no attitude in the salon either. I don't feel like I need to get dressed up to go have my hair done. I literally must have been to 15 different places in the past few years looking for what I finally have found at id salon. more

Great Salon! 10/24/2010

I recently moved to the Boston area and left a great stylist back in NY. I was unsure of where to go to get my hair done, but figured it would definitely have to be in town. I was wrong! \r I called ID salon pretty last minute and they were able to squeeze me in on that day. I met with William and received quite possibly the best haircut ever. He really listened to my needs! I highly reccomend him!\r I am thankful for finding such a great salon and will absolutely be back! more

Nadia Rocks!~ 8/22/2010

I went to I D over the weekend & used one of my groupons. To be honest, I really wasn't expecting much... (not sure why?) I could have used up to a $90 value, but I wanted an appointment on Saturday morning & Nadia happened to be available. I really just wanted my hair ""that I wear up all of the time by the way"", to be cleaned up, shaped, not much more. Wow, Nadia completely changed the entire style of my bangs, loose pieces etc. I can't say enough about her. I thought when I dried it myself it would look different, but it still came out clean, neat, even, stylish, etc. Don't go by the dollar sign, Nadia is as good as they come..I have baby fine hair with a cowlick on my forehead, Nadia managed to make it all work.~ Honestly, she sat me down & really checked out my baby fine hair before she cut it. The best salon around! 7/4/2010

I used to go to Helen for color and Shirley for styling for years until Shirley left. I decided to try Sarah for a haircut and I'm so glad I did! She gave me a fresh, amazing cut that left me feeling years and years younger. So now I still go to Helen for color (who, by the way, is the one of the best colorist in MA) and Sarah as my stylist. Another thing that I love about the salon is the staff who work there. I always get an amazing shampoo and scalp massage from one of the hair-washers and they are always willing to go get me a cup of coffee or tea. I recommend id Salon in Wellesley very, very highly! this salon is not a cut above!!!!! 6/2/2010

I went to Id salon for a consultation and decided to get a trim .I told the stylist that I needed length as I liked pulling hair back and that my gray was growing in very kinky /frizzy unlike the rest of my hair which was straight. I also said that I liked long hair and did not care for short hair. I knew that longer length would weigh down frizz and prevent likelihood of curls. The stylist pulled my hair back to show me that I could still wear it back and then proceeded to texturise and chop off all my hair!!! When I left my hair did not even touch my shoulders and barely covered nape of neck!!! I had multiple layers, short and chunky and the shortest ones are where all my gray, frizzy hair is growing in! I could not even pull it back and had so little hair left that I wanted to cry!!! I have since gone to another salon where the owner listens to what I want and was told that any stylist should know that short layers are BAD for frizzy, ,rebellious hair as it makes it even more unruly!!! It will take me over a year to grow out this mess! It takes me twice as long to style my hair now. I feel as if the stylist was more interested in doing her thing:and/or giving me a LOOK than in meeting my needs or desires. I would never recommend this salon to anyone!! Not one person has told me that this looked nice or attractive either! The primary reaction as been: ""Oh My God!!! What did you do to to your hair? What a mess?"" I was searching for a new salon, and had seen the salon in the best of boston magazine. I also checked here on city search. One of the stylists matt was written up several times. I drive 25 miles to get a haircut by Marcia because she gives the best haircut I have ever gotten for my short fine hair........and I've tried a LOT of hairdressers over the years! Thank you, Marcia! Helen is the best colorist in Boston. I am sorry that ""mom in Wellesley"" had a bad experience, but have to believe that her bad experience was because of her not Helen. I got a color done by Helen once and was not thrilled or happy. It felt burned and was very frizzy afterwards for a good while. I had told her I felt the color was on for to long but I was ignored.It turned out pretty bad. I went to a different colorist there next time and was much happier with the results. \r \r Shirley is an amazing stylist who knows how to communicate with you to find your right cut. \r \r One thing I did not care for was over hearing some of the stylists/colorists backstabbing eachother to other clients. This is not at all professional. I am sure there are some clints who enjoy seeing this, but I take no pleasure in this immature catty behavior. I only heard positive comments about other stylists from ONE of the owners. This is enough to make me hesitate about returning there.\r \r Galina gives the best mani's and pedi's! The asistants are super sweet and give first class service!\r \r All in all my only wish it that some of the stylists and colorist acted more proffesional and less catty and they took the time to communicate properly. I drive 1 and 1/2 hours every 5 weeks, down the Mass Pike, to get my hair done at ID Salon in Wellesley MA. Matt Carlson has taken years off my look with his skillful color and stylish cuts. It is great to be over 60 and have everyone think you are 40. Only my hairdresser knows! \r \r If you are looking for a real professional, with an artistic eye, try Matt Carlson for your next cut and color. I am glad that I did. flawless cut 4/5/2009

just moved to the area and went on citisearch to find a salon. After reading a few reviews about matt called and booked an appointment. I went to my appointment with some pictures of hair that I liked. Matt was great, he helped me narrow down which cuts would look great with my face shape. could'nt be more pleased he dilivered a flawless cut. had a great expierience. I will be back. Pros: great stylist Cons: matt is a busy stylist, but worth the wait. more
