I have never written an online review in my life, but felt compelled after reading the negative review of ID Salon, and specifically, Shirley, from ""lindacal"" . To put things in perspective: I have known Shirley for four years, both personally and professionally. Let's start first with the service and the cut: simply put, I feel like I have finally found someone who understands my hair and how to cut it. My hair could not be more different from Shirley's: long, curly, with a tendency to frizz. So I find the assertion that she manufactures the same haircut for everyone to be simply ridiculous. Furthermore, Shirley is one of the most thoughtful and intelligent hairdressers I have met. If you bother to ask her questions about why she is cutting the way she is, she carefully explains things about your hair that you never even noticed yourself! Sometimes I feel she knows my hair better than I do! Finally, you don't get to be where Shirley is without being exceptional. As one reviewer noted, SHE TRAINS BUMBLE AND BUMBLE HAIRDRESSERS IN NYC. She is in the top tier of her profession. Regarding the salon and its atmosphere, I find it to be professional, friendly, and UNPRETENTIOUS, and as has been said, the people who work there respect each other and are kind to each other. (Speaking of pretentious, I got the worst haircut of my life on Newbury Street). The stylists are comfortable discussing the serious and the mundane (or the inane--life is difficult enough--relax!). I agree with the other reviewers--when I go to get my hair done, I don't feel the need to discuss the latest medical journals I am reading. But if I wanted to, Shirley would be up for it: she's quite smart, insightful and curious. She's a person who is easy to spend time with, and we are lucky she decided to set up shop in the suburbs. Thanks Shirley--you're the best.
Pros: highly skilled staff, relaxed and fun
Cons: none!
