Best

Humble Pie (HP) leaves the most opinionated foodie…..humbled. This place has won my blue ribbon for favorite restaurant in Raleigh. I have visited HP twice now and both times ...

Worst

I enjoy TAPAS style restaurants but stay away from the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. Unless you like paying $9 for 3 small pieces of shrimp (and nothing else with it).\r \r The waiters ...

try it again 10/23/2005

Any of you who tried Humble Pie after the re-opening a few years ago need to go back! The new Chef, Thor, is fantastic and the menu is re-invented with fresh ingredients and an emphasis on local flavor. The shrimp and grits are to die for as is the grouper. What's really exceptional is the value, they have some of the best priced bottles of wine and very generous portions for tapas. it would be worth it even if the atmosphere lacked charm, but thankfully it doesn't, instead it's cozy and inviting. My husband I usually stop in once a week, we eat out often, but it's still a favorite. Pros: service, atmosphere, menu Cons: parking, visibility more

Sunday Brunch... Only the best! 8/4/2005

I highly recommend Sunday brunch. Great food, casual atmosphere and fabulous service! A prime pick for those who may need to refuel and recoop from weekend festivities. more

WOW!! 6/13/2005

My husband and I dine here regularly and it gets better every time. The staff and bartenders always make us fell welcome and remember our ""usuals"". Chef Thor has nearly perfected everything on the menu and owner/bartender Jim makes a mean margarita. You have to go just for the spinach tart and the grouper, fantastic!! Pros: Food, Service, Patio Seating more

Local Aging Hipsters Make Good...sort of. 6/2/2005

The ""new"" owners of The Pie, Joe and Jim, have kept one of my favorite places in Raleigh open and that is thanks enough. However, the glow of the status quo was not enough to take my mind off the horrible service my group received. It became readily apparent that the hipster waitstaff that is the Pie's trademark and one of its benefits, is also a drawback. Go there when the staff is in the weeds and witness that hallmark of our generation: the Gen-X snotty attitude. That unpleasantness aside, the food still kicks, but we all miss the old chef(s). Oh, and by the way, you can catch some great bands during the week, while soaking up the atmosphere, vodka and pretty males and females. Go. Now. Just be wary not to irk the staff. Pros: hipster owners, substance, still there Cons: hipster staff, ashley's gone, unknown more

Good, but nothing extraordinary 5/31/2005

I was visiting Raleigh and went here for dinner because of Citysearch ratings. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Boston restaurants, but from the reviews and ratings I had expected more than what it turned out to be. The food is well prepared, ok presentation, quality ingridients, but there is no magic touch that I've come to expect from highly rated tapas places in Boston area. No espresso/cappuccino -- a shame. Even no tomato juice. I didn't want an alcoholic drink, and I had to settle for mineral water (at least that had that:) The bread that came with my order was barely bakery quality, albeit warm. Overall -- perhaps a very good choice for lunch if you're ok with drip coffee, but I would go elsewhere for dinner. Pros: Service, Inexpensive Cons: No espresso machine more

Must Try 3/10/2005

A group of co-workers and I went out for drinks and dinner, and we were all very happy with the service, the food and the atmosphere at Humble Pie. Our servers were both friendly and accomodating. The tapas experience was new for me and several others and I really enjoyed it. The food was cooked to perfection and served up hot. I was surprisingly very satisfied with only ordering one of the menu items. I highly recommend this restaurant for nearly any occasion or no occasion at all. more

awesome brunch 2/3/2005

This place is a must for Sunday brunch! I go at least once a month. Also, whenever I have company in town for the weekend I make sure to take them here. more

Excellent Secret in Downtown Raleigh 8/22/2004

What a great experience we had last week at Humble Pie. My wife and I don't get out too much but when we do it's nice to be treated great and just enjoy dinner. Friends recommended Humble Pie after a great experience with them at a wedding catering they handled. We had the Kimchee, Blackened Beef, Shrimp and Grits, Panzanella Salad, Dessert, Coffee. Okay, we were stuffed but we took a couple hours, did not ever feel rushed and the owner even let us try a new dish that may be coming out this week. From the local art to the low-key atmosphere, we felt like we were treated as if we came there every week, just incredibly personalized service backed up by healthy, tasty food and proportions. So we will be regulars. My only complaint - get a bigger sign because people will want to find you! Pros: Unique, Food Prepations, Atmosphere Cons: , Parking more

I'm back!!! 8/18/2004

We heard this place has a new chef so my wife and I checked it out. Food was very good and service is much improved. We went back for brunch 3 days later and it was good too. Portions are very good for price we paid. A great experience all around! Pros: value, service more

Average fare; good service 7/22/2004

Maybe I shouldn't have read all of the exagerrated reviews of this place before going for the first time. I found the food to be average at best, certainly no inpspiration in the kitchen when I was there. The service was very good. The atmosphere and decor are neo-warehouse and required very little investment on the part of the owners. Pros: service Cons: , clunker atmosphere more

My Fave!!! 3/30/2004

My friends and I go here at least every other week. The bar is our favorite dowtown spot. Ultra cool warehouse decor and you can sit outside if you want. TWO BIG THUMBS UP!!! Pros: very cool decor, good drinks more

great food 2/23/2004

I love this place. The food is great and there is a lot to chose from. Every thing is an appetizer so you can order 1 thing at a time an keep ordering until you full. Great down town location. Really nice staff. In the summer there is out door setting and alot of it. I rate this place a 10! Pros: great food, great service, out door setting more

MAKE A TRIP... 12/8/2003

Make a trip to this well-conceived remake of a great old spot. Great food and attentive service. THE HUMBLE PIE SERVES THE BEST BRUNCH IN TOWN!!! Tapas is superb and all accolades are fair. Enjoy your dinner!!! Pros: food, service more

A PERFECT ""10"" 12/5/2003

Raleigh has a rare culinary gem downtown, and it's name is HUMBLE PIE. Expect great food prepared with impeccable presentation, well mixed drinks, and attentive service. The meal started with a corn and cumin bisque kicked-up with red chiles and chive blossoms. Afterward, panzanella salad...a cornucopia of fresh baby greens, house-made croutons, vine-ripened tomatoes, olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette with aromatic fresh basil to give it truly unique taste. And then came the centerpiece...succulently tender osso bucco served over perfectly cooked creamy risotto and a deep luxurious brown sauce. OH MY GOD...it just doesn't get better than that. The meal finished-up with a to-die-for pistachio-crusted cheesecake. Do yourself a favor...try HUMBLE PIE. Head Chef Chris Gant's culinary masterworks will definitely be the highlight of your week. Be sure to order your favorite mixed drink. Bartender, Worth, has mixology magic in those hands. Brad, my waiter, is also highly recommended. Pros: Great Food and Drinks, Excellent Service, Fun Late-night Scene Cons: Little noisy, no prob more

EAT HERE! 8/28/2003

Before you waste your cash at many mediocre downtown eateries, go to the Humble Pie and try many dishes. My friends and I ate 15 items off the tapas menu and enjoyed them all. The bar is cool and they serve food late. Pros: Good Brunch, Cool Bar more

BEST BRUNCH IS BACK 8/3/2003

The best brunch in the triangle is back! My husband and I wondered where our favorite Sunday spot had gone. The Humble Pie is back and brought a better brunch with it. Sweet potato pancakes and shrimp/grits are mighty tasty. Our weekends are back to normal now!!! Pros: BRUNCH, service more
