...this is the ONLY place to board. I have boarded a cat and now three different dogs at the Hound Dog and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the experiences. I assumed my cat would FREAK at being boarded anywhere simply because he's a cat...but he was calm and happy when I handed him over, and just the same guy as always when I picked him up. The staff even happily indulged my over-protectiveness by letting me ""spy"" on him for the first 15 minutes or so after I left him. more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! 7/9/2010

My dog was there for two days and as soon as he got home he started explosive diarahea for over 5 days. It's believed that he had some sort of parasite, this place is not safe for dogs. Cons: Sick Dogs more

Never Again 6/24/2010

I boarded my dogs over a three day weekend and was horrified with what I saw when I went for pick-up. As I stood in a very long line waiting to pick up my dogs I watched as dog after dog came out and immediately urinated. They clearly hadn't been out for a long time, as it was a substantial quantity and very dark in color. They clearly don't get them out as often as stated. My dogs bed was saturated with urine, and then one of the dogs threw up and it was the other dogs food. They new it was a prescription diet and that they needed to make sure they didn't eat the wrong food. Their lack of care caused a severe flare-up of pancreatitis. When I brought this to the attention of the owner at the front desk I was greeted with complete disregard. She would be better in the back of the business and put someone who smiles at the front desk. Needless to say, I haven't been back to that location nor will I go to her new location. I know of other dogs that go there and have eye infections after every stay. Clearly the sanitation is inadequate. Don't let the gloss and hype sway you. I was thoroughly disappointed. Pros: Beautiful Facility Cons: Lack of Proper Care more

A home away from home! 2/22/2010

I am the proud owner of older, high-maintenance dogs that I have refused to board anywhere. As youngsters I boarded them at a Minneapolis kennel and they came home with kennel cough and no voices left from barking all day. Then I discovered the HDPH! I began with dropping them off for daycare occasionally, and what I found upon picking them up were bathed, tired and HAPPY dogs! The staff was able to tell me how they spent their days, which other dogs they played with, and even had pictures of my boys out in the play yard playing with their new friends. Not one time have my dogs come home hoarse or stressed in any way. When I had the courage to try an overnight stay it was just as wonderful an experience as daycare had been, and we've been boarding there ever since. Pros: Fantastic staff, safe and clean facility, happy dogs more

Can animals speak? 4/10/2009

Listen, last I knew NO ANIMAL can speak and be understood through the human language. Comments about ?why didn?t they notice? and the like doesn?t hold much water for me, animals can?t speak and tell people they are not feeling well. more

Sick with anger 3/23/2009

I had recently brought my 2 dogs (ages 2 1/2 and 7 mo) to the Hound Dog Hotel for 7 days. When we returned from our vacation, we picked them up as soon as they opened at 7am. About an hour after that I noticed that my dog were both having trouble breathing, coughing, and had thick, green snot coming from their noses. I called our vet and they told us to bring them in right away. Both of our dogs ended up having upper respiratory infections. A couple hundred dollars later, we started them on antibiotics. Two days later, my oldest dog started to have trouble breathing. We had to bring her to the emergency hospital for care. She was on the verge of pneumonia. We spent plenty of money for accurate care for our dogs. We called them just about every day to check on our babies. We thought everything was fine. At least that was what they told us even the day we picked them up. Our vet stated that they had to have had this sickness for at a couple days to be this bad. When we called the pet hotel, there was not a care for how our dogs had been received. Why wouldn't they have called us if they noticed a sickness? How could they have not noticed my dogs were hacking up a lung and excreting neon green ooze out of their noses? Were they not paying close attention to the care of my dogs? We spent double what we should have for the hotel and veterinary costs. No wonder they have a waiver to sign away the possible care and life of your dogs. DO NOT bring your dog here if you expect quality attention and care. You will end up spending more than you bargained for. Your dogs are more important than that!!! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Saved my dog's life 1/5/2009

I have two dogs that I board there. One became sick wit Bloat while I was out of the country. The staff caught it, rushed my dog to the emergency vet (it was a Saturday) and their quick actions saved him. After surgery, the HDH cared for him until I returned. I called in daily to speak with staff who were extremely attentive and handled all of his special care and medication. My dogs have stayed there several times and always receive great care. Had they not paid unique attention to each dog, they would have never caught the Bloat symptoms and my dog would have died. This is a well run kennel that has wonderful and attentive staff. I highly recommend them and am grateful to them for their care and love of the animals. Pros: Wonderful and caring staff more

HOUND DOG IS THEE DOGGIE HOTEL!!! 11/30/2008

I AM HERE TO SAY THAT THE STAFF IS VERY FRIENDLY AND KNOWS WHAT GOES ON WITH MY PET!! I WAS READING REVIEWS ON HERE AND WAS LIKE WOW BECAUSE ALL THE EXPERIANCES I HAVE HAD WITH HOUND DOG HAS BEEN GREAT! I HAVE RECOMMENDED ALL MY FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS TO THEM AND THEY TOO HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM! I BOARD MY DOG THERE QUITE ALOT AND THEY ALWAYS KNOW HOW HE IS DOING WHEN I CALL TO CHECK UP ON HIM. WHEN I PICK HIM UP HE ACTS THE WAY HE DID WHEN I BROUGHT HIM THERE JUST HAPPY AND HIMSELF! AS YOU READ IN THE PAPERWORK AFTER BOARDING THEY MAY NOT BE THEMSELVES AS WOULD YOU AFTER BEING AWAY FROM YOUR PARENTS WHEN YOU WERE KIDS? THEY TREAT EACH DOG AS AN INDIVIDUAL PERSON AND ALL SEEM TO KNOW THEM! I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THE STAFF IS VERY FRIENDLY AND ALWAYS THERE FOR MY DOG! HE GOES THERE 5 TIMES A WEEK FOR DAYCARE AND IS ALWAYS EXCITED TO GO THERE!! HE FALLS ASLEEP ON THE RIDE HOME EVEN FROM BEING SO POOPED OUT FROM PLAYING ALL DAY! I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF BAD THINGS OF HOUND DOG... IT IS A VERY CLEAN AND WELL KEPT PLACE. I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVERYONE! THE PAST IS THE PAST ON WHO OWNED WHAT AND WHATEVER. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY CHANGES IN THE PLACE SINCE KAREN LEFT, ALL IS STILL GOOD. ALL I SEE WHEN I WALK IN THE DOOR IS SMILES AND PEOPLE THAT ENJOY THEIR JOBS GREATLY! YOU CANT BELIEVE ALL THE NEGATIVE STUFF ON HERE CONSIDERING AS YOU READ THEM YOU CAN TELL IT WAS AN OLD EMPLOYEE OR SOMEONE THAT DID NOT GET ALONG WITH KAREN... YOU CANT GO BY THAT CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF AND YOU WILL SEE ALL IS GOOD!!! I TOTALLY RECOMMEND HOUND DOG PET HOTEL & SPA!!!!!!!!! Pros: DOGGIE DAYCARE 7 DAYS A WEEK~ Cons: ALL IS WELL!!! more

dont believe everthing you read 11/28/2008

I have been using the Hound Dog Pet Hotel for many years now , and have been very pleased Im also friends with the owners ,Karen and David . they are both passionate about their pets and ,mostly of the Hound Dog , like many of the entries stating weve been bring our dog here for years loving everthing about it , You just cant believe the 18 months of entries , many are made up from Melissa the daughter of David , she responds evertime she gets a bad review , these are all made up , so you think Karen was not so good , and now the staff is great ,.The only reason why Karen is not there is because her and David had a long term relationship , and also a partnership in the company together ,It isnt beacuse of the made up comments about how mean she was , these just dont make any sense , She has had over 5000 apts in 6 years and only a few {truley }bad reviews , but dont believe any that say now shes gone and lthe staff is great ,Karen and David are still the owners , and still cherish all the pets , I know Karen personally misses all the clients she grew to know all so well ... Pros: a great place to board your pets Cons: alot of untrue entries, why does hd have 43 , other kennels 5 or less more

Hound Dog Pet Hotel Highly Recommended 11/16/2008

Our dog has been boarding at the Hound Dog Pet Hotel for several years now and we have always had excellent results. In fact, I always schedule grooming prior to pick up, so she looks and smells wonderful when she walks out the door. I know she gets a lot of exercise, since she sleeps so well when she returns home and this is a 3 year old dog with endless energy. We also use their grooming services on a regular basis. Recently we also boarded our cat for the first time, who now has diabetes and requires 2 insulin shots per day. We were very pleased with the care and concern shown towards both our animals, feeling very comfortable leaving them there and look forward to continuing to utilize the Hound Dog Pet Hotel services. My husband and I have been very pleased with leaving our pets in the Hound Dog Pet Hotel's care. more

Definitely Recommend It 10/17/2008

The Hound Dog is a great place- we've been going there for almost 2 years, and have always been met at the front desk with a friendly smile, and our dog comes home and sleeps all night (a good thing!) For those who are concerned that their dogs aren't peeing, drinking, etc. at the HD, it is probably true that they don't as much as when they are home because a dog's priority there is to play! We tried bringing food for our dog to eat during ""lunch"" and she never ate it- they explained that the dogs are just too excited to get back out and play which makes sense. She also does not smell the greatest but let's be honest- they are playing around, slobbering on each other in the dirt play area so of course they're not going to smell great. It's worth it in my opinion! The only problem I had there was that I was asked to pay for a collar that my dog supposedly chewed off- I was not only offended, but wondered how well my dog was supervised for her to chew another dog's collar off? Other than that, she's never had a scratch on her (and she plays with all the big dogs) This isn't a 5 star hotel- it's just a solid place to take socialized dogs! Pros: Service, Low cost, Friendly Staff (know most dogs by name) Cons: I wish it opened earlier than 7am! more

Hound Dog Review 10/14/2008

Oscar, Our year old 18 lb Cavachon has gone to day care 2 to 3 times a week and boarded for as many as 6 days at a time. He is always, clean , happy when picked up and excited to return. We have never experinced a problem in the years we have used Hound Dog for our other dogs under either owner. Friends comment that Oscar is a very well socialized dog at his age of 1 yr and he has recieved the bulk of that at the Hound Dog. We are all very pleased and highly recommend it to friends. We have tried 2 other locations and at one that came highly recommended he came home so soaked in urine I could barely drive home . We went right back to Hound Dog. Pros: location, friendly staff, clean , lets you drop in more

My pupply liked Hound Dog Hotel 10/14/2008

I left my very, very social puppy, Maya, there for a week in June. When I picked her up, it was if I had never left. She was clean, happy and seemed to have enjoyed her stay. The staff I met were very pleasant and helpful and the place was clean and charming. I chose HDH because they promised lots of play time and she seems to have had that. I certainly plan to use them again. more

Doggie Daycare Rocks! 10/1/2008

I've been taking my dog to the Hound Dog Pet Hotel for Doggie Daycare at least once per week since August. My dog gets VERY EXCITED every time he hears the words, ""Doggie Daycare"" and he comes home happy and exhausted every time, so he must be having fun! Pros: Great Staff, and I always get an exhausted dog at the end of the day! Cons: I wish there was a Hound Dog Pet Hotel in Minneapolis! more

This place is a JOKE!!! 6/28/2008

I have left my pet here on a few different occassions, each time gets worst!! The first time we brought our pet in seemed ok- service was mediocre and we were on our way to a funeral so had little time to find other arrangements. When we picked him up, he smelled horrible and seemed to be covered in other dogs slobber. I didn't think much of it. The second time we dropped him off, they had quoted us one price and charged us another...like one review said phantom fees. Again, service was pretty poor- no smiles or thank you's. Finally, we left him there a third time and requested he get the the spa treatment- bath, groom, massage etc...when we picked him up he again smelled awful and it didn't look like he had been bathed at all. When I asked the front desk lady about it she said, ""he was out playing with other dogs and may have gotten dirty again""....duh!!! But I refused to pay for something and not get it. I asked why they didn't wait to bath him until close to pick up time and she had no answer. I won't leave him here any more, I found another facility that he seems to like better and best of all the staff at this other facility LOVES our dog and LOVES us...they treat us so well!! I agree with the other reviews that have received poor service...don't waste your time or money with Hound Hotel there are better options out there!!! Pros: Location Cons: SERVICE IS THE WORST EVER and THEY DON'T TAKE GOOD CARE OF PETS!! more

Dog came home in the worst shape of her life. 6/23/2008

We only boarded our dog at the Hound Dog Pet Hotel once, on a friend's recomendation. I have never met Karen, so I cannot comment on the majority of previous reviews. However, my own experience was a nightmare. When we came to pick our dog up, she was terrified and had her tail between her legs for the entire car ride home (for comparison, she is the most social, cheerful dog ever and is usually doing backflips when she sees us). Her fur was matted and sticky in places, and she REEKED of stale urine (she basically smelled like she had stayed with a homeless man on the streets, not in any sort of a Pet Hotel). Once we got home, she couldn't stop drinking water, and she refused to eat for the rest of the day. Her behavior was so atypical that I seriously considered calling our vet. Pros: convenient location Cons: poor animal care, no animal supervision, poor customer service more

hounddog 5/13/2008

My dog Bella also has enjoyed the Hound Dog , But everytime I read this site , there is a slam on the prevouis owner Karen , I havent noticed any changes , why are they always writing about her , its seems it could be an inside personal problem , I have always liked Karen and it was my understanding she put the whole program together , the dogs always seem happy ,tired , cant wait to come back ,oh yeah except for that horrible girl Karen , really lets realize nothing changed ....I hope not to read any more entries on her . Pros: great program more

Love this place! 5/11/2008

This is the best kennel by far I have ever boarded my dog in. My dog has been boarded multiple times and has always enjoyed her time there. She comes for daycare sometimes and has a blast! She is always tuckered out on the car ride home. The staff is very nice and care very much for your pets. The previous owner, who didn't have a good rep., is now gone and place seems to be better then ever. The younger lady at the front desk says that the dogs are let out about 7 times a day for playtime. That is alot of time! My dog also has boarded there and had to take meds and the staff gave him his meds without a problem or a extra charge for distributing them. They also groomed my dog without a problem! I have read previous reviews about this place and I have no idea what people are talking about. It is a fun place and the dogs love it! They are fantastic and I would highly recommend them to anyone! The place is big so bring your walking shoes! Pros: Great Staff, Fun Place, Fun Atmosphere! Cons: Wish hours for dropoff were earlier and pick up later more

Find somewhere else! 4/8/2008

I would definitely not recommend this place. I was told that I could bring my dog his toys, bed, food, etc. When we went to pick him up, his bag was returned to me looking the exact way I brought it in. I just know that they did not give him any of his toys and I question whether he was fed any of his own food or treats. Also, they did not bring me his bed. When I asked where it was, it took them 20 minutes to find it, which is a clear indicator that it was not in his kennel with him. I will never take him back there. more
