First Phone call impression - RUDE! 11/5/2011

Zero stars for this firm. I called today to ask about a mask and the person who answered was rude, quickly answered one question then hung up. I won't do business with this firm. I'll shop elsewhere or order costume pieces online. more

HORRIBLE PHONE SERVICE! 10/21/2011

I would like to give no stars---the man who answered the phone was HORRIBLE! He fast paced told me the prices and then slammed the phone on me! NEVER AGAIN! more

Worst customer service EVER. 10/6/2011

I visted this shop alone, mid-week, after lunch, the first week of October. There was only one other person in the store. I explained that I was looking for costume ideas and wanted to look around. The woman rolled her eyes and said, ""Well, we have a lot of costumes! It would be best if you knew what you wanted first."" I said, I just wanted to look at everything to spark ideas. She sighed loudly like I was totally annoying her. She asked another woman to ""quickly walk me through to back room."" This woman practically dragged me through and would not let me stop and touch or really look at anything! Finally, the first woman tracked us down and said. ""Okay, so you saw it all. Come back with an idea and we will let you try stuff on. Thanks for stopping by."" She basically asked me to leave. Wow. I'm a middle aged business woman not a pack of rowdy teenagers. more

Skip Hollywood Costumers 10/17/2010

We had the most RUDE and even offensive service that we walked out. We will never do business with this store, and encourage others to shop around. more

Use another costume shop 4/20/2010

My husband and I needed costumes to attend a ""cowboy"" affair. The person helping us find costumes was wonderful. The jacket my husband found had horrible stains, the ruffled shirt had a large stain on the ruffles so the stains were very noticeable. Both of the pants pockets had holes larger than a mans hand. My dress was also very dirty and had a huge ""wine"" (?) type stain on the front. We were assured all of this would be repaired prior to us picking up the costumes. After taking the costumes home (without looking at them, my fault), we found all of the damage. This was Friday after the store had closed. I called the store on Saturday and they suggested I bring the costumes back. My husband had to be on site at the party in less than an hour. Needless to say I spent the day dry cleaning and trying to repair the costumes. When I returned the costumes to someone in costume herself she stated "" I can see nothing wrong"". I asked for a partial refund and this was refused. Don't ruin a fun outing by going to what was for me a filthy and ""safety pin"" experience. Pros: There are none Cons: There is no concern about the condition of the costumes more

Amazing Place -- Very Knowledgeable and Helpful 10/14/2009

I needed a costume for the weekend to be taken with me that day for myself and my husband. He wasn't able to come in with me. They worked with me so thoroughly that I came away with spectacular outfits. My husband thanked me for getting him such a great costume. I got the credit for Hollywood Costumers expertise and unbelievably HUGE selection. I will definitely come back. Pros: Huge selection and parking in front more

STAY AWAY- unless you like rude costumer service and high prices. 1/5/2009

YUCK!!! What a hell hole. High priced and RUDE people running the place. How do they stay in business? Cons: Where to start. RUDE service HIGH prices. more

No Clothes for daughters wedding 12/25/2008

We ordered and paid for our costumes late November before leaving on vacation. When we returned the weather was bad I started calling on December 20 no answer no voice mail nothing. We drove from Oregon City Tuesday at noon and they were not open no explination on door no number to call except the one I had been calling. We have to leave for Bend in the morning for my daughters wedding and we do not have our costumes. This is very upsetting. I left them a note in their mai slot on Tuesday. They know that these costumes are for a wedding. I wonder how many Santa Claus were disapointed also. If anyone knows the owner please tell them to call. My number is on the inside of their door on the flooor. They have spoiled this wedding day for my daughter. I would not trust them. Sandra more

What ever happened to Baby Jane meets Groundhog Day 11/24/2008

Funny about the customer service comments below. I actually had one gal running around trying to help two different shoppers as best as she could, but standing next to us, right on the phone the whole time, engrossed in some personal call was the living incarnation of ""what ever happened to Baby Jane"". It was almost worth the trip just to look at this other character who was completely unmotivated to either help me or the other poor gal who was actually trying to help. Cons: lots, bring and inhaler if you have asthma more

Combative Customer Service 11/7/2008

I have to pile on to echo the folks who've had bad customer service here. I called to inquire about a costume for my husband and was asked for his ""coat size."" I replied ""large"" and asked if they had the 2 costumes ideas I was interested in. The salesperson said she refused to check until I called her back with his actual coat size. I figured out that she meant dress shirt/neck measurement and asked her what a large would be (he's a teacher ok...I buy him shirts off a hangar not the shrink-wrapped suit shirts). She said...maybe 42. I said ""ok, let's say he's a 42 then, do you have either of these 2 costumes?"" She refused to even look until I could call her back with confirmation that my husband wears a size 42 shirt. I called back at 3:40 and they were already gone for the day (or just not answering the phone). Ummmmm.....there goes one sale out the door. If anyone with a clue about customer service is looking for a small business idea, I recommend opening a costume rental store. more

Horrible, horrible, horrible management and customer service!! 11/5/2008

Stopped by the day before Halloween, midday, we were second into the store but it filled up quickly with people and there was NO ONE at the counters. For at least five minutes we were all milling around wondering whether to walk out or not. Then a guy came out and started helping one person. There were at least three workers in the costume area and NONE came out front. After waiting for at LEAST 15 minutes more (remember, we were the second people in there!) and not being helped at ALL, not even a ""I'll be right with you"", we walked out. more

Hours of operation - ??? 2/29/2008

(2/29/2008) CitySearch says Hollywood Costumers is open open until 4:00pm on Fridays, the Hollywood Costumers website says they're open until 5:00pm on Fridays, the actual business place says they're open until 3:30pm on Fridays. When is this place open?! I tried calling them, but just got a voice mail that didn't even indicate I had reached Hollywood Costumers. Cons: Hours of operation unknown more

I Will NEVER Go Back to this Place!!! 9/10/2007

I went in to Hollywood Costumes just before Halloween to get a bowler hat for my husband who wanted to go to a party as Alex from ""A Clockwork Orange."" This is a pretty common item, and I had seen them around town at other places for about $5 but failed to pick one up. When I asked them for a bowler hat, they said they only had one choice, and it was $25. I said, ""I don't need something so nice, it's just for one night. I was looking for a $5 hat."" They looked at me with a sneer and said, ""We don't have any of THOSE."" As I walked out, they actually burst into laughter. I went to Lippman and got EXACTLY what I wanted. Hollywood Costumes is run by RUDE people. They have no clue as to the reality of their business, and are completely out of touch with the general public. I have also gone in there to buy professional stage make-up for productions I've been in, but the staff is untrained in how the products work. Finally, there should be a city ordinance against those hideously tacky paintings on their windows....although, I realize that is just a matter of taste. more

They were so rude I just cut my losses and walked out 8/22/2007

First, it looks like a huge store from the outside. You get a bit excited. After all, there are all these costumes painted on the outside wall, right? So I go in, and the store seems tiny. I stop to notice all the bright green signs with all the rules, like ""Smile, You're On Camera"" and ""Only 2 Try-Ons"" . . . Pros: Seems like they have a lot of costumes back there Cons: Hard to tell what they have; rude and pushy customer service; seems quite spendy more

HORRIBLE PLACE! 7/5/2007

I would not go here - you will not walk away with a good feeling let alone any type of costume because they breathe down your neck and don't let you try anything on....plus they insulted you by telling you the outfits are too small and you are too big..........They DO NOT LIKE CUSTOMERS!!! Cons: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, RUD SALES PEOPLE AND OWNER more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS...BECAUSE THERE WILL BE A LOT 11/10/2006

The people here are RUDE and UNHELPFUL! Not to mention, as did the person who reviewed them before me, they have inconsistant, horrible hours which they fight about in front of their customers who are being hurried out of the store. I went to the store one afternoon and discovered that their hours are POSTED on their front door as Mon. - Fri 11-4:45 and Sat. 11-4. So, not wanting to miss them, I called the next day and was told that they would be open untill 5:00 that day and that I should show up an hour before if I wanted to try anything on. I went there at 5 minutes to 4 and asked to see their costumes for a belly dancer. I was led into the back and left alone for all of 5 minutes when someone came into the back and asked if I was almost done because they would like to go home early. I told them I would hurry and it would be just a moment. A few minutes later, someone came and asked again. I told them I had 3 more to try and I would be out. Two minutes after that, a little old lady came and opened my dressing room while I was undressed and mumbled something about wanting to close ""On Time."" Against my better judgement, I returned to show the costume to my husband. When I asked to try it on she demanded to know why I needed to try it on again. So, reluctantly, and with much more grumbling about having to turn the lights on for me, I tried it on and I paid an ungodly $75 for something that I now know has holes, and missing pieces. 3 days later, my GRANDMOTHER DIED, and I was going to have to attend her funeral out of state. HOW UNTHOUGHTFUL OF ME! I called to beg for some understanding and a refund. Instead, I got a rude, NO REFUNDS! NO EXCEPTIONS! IT'S POSTED EVERYWHERE AND ON YOUR RENTAL AGREEMENT! Which I was never told about before signing. So now I'm stuck with a $75 piece of junk I'm not even sure I'll be able to enjoy! Thanks for the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I'll never return, and I hope you can learn from my experience. Cons: PEOPLE, BAD MERCHANDISE, HOURS, EMPATHY more

Great Costumes - Lousy Hours 10/31/2005

The costumes here are great, but returns are difficult because even the day after Halloween they stick with their 10-4 regular hours. If you work for a living, this can be a problem when trying to get away to return the costume, especially if you're an environmentally conscious individual who rides the bus downtown or take other forms of mass transit. Otherwise the selection there is awesome and they were very helpful. A little on the pricey side, with prices for me this year averaging 30-50% of what it would cost to buy or manufacture a similar outfit. more
