Rude & Dishonorable 4/20/2011

As I have been looking online for bakery recommendations for my upcoming wedding, I was interested to read the reviews for this bakery wondering if others have experienced what I have here. After reading some of the reviews, I created a profile just so I could post here. I decided to give this bakery a try about 3 years ago and bought a banana nut bread loaf and some other pastries for a work function. I wasn't greeted when I walked in the door and when I took the baked goods to the counter to check out, I was rudely approached. (Later finding out that the person who I purchased from was in fact the owner.) The women that run this place seemed like they couldn't care less that someone was purchasing their products. Unfortunately, I've purchased the same things that tasted 100 times better at Publix and Kroger for half the price. I am easy to please when it comes to baked good and pastries (as I have always had a sweet tooth) but I was not impressed. After sharing this news with my co-workers shortly after this encounter, they proceeded to tell me that this business has sponsored a team at Civitan Girls Softball park (which is a non-profit local softball park) and the owner has refused to pay the sponsorship fees for years. I was disgusted after I heard this. To think I stupidly thought I would give this bakery another shot, that has not happened and will not happen. I'm astonished they're still in business. Please do not waste your time making comments on this post as I will not be back to this company's page. Thank you for reading and good luck with your bakery search! more

One of the Best Bakeries in Nashville! 3/10/2009

I LOVE this bakery! The cake is absolutely the moistest cake I've ever had and icing is seriously addicting! I have had them make two very special cakes for me and they were both amazing! One in particular, I was having a lingerie shower for my best friend (lots of pressure on the MOH) - it was a black and pink theme and I wanted the cake to look like a Victoria Secret colored hat box with a big bow in the middle and a special tag. It was amazing! The cake even had a ""lip"" on it that made it look like it had a lid. Everyone was super impressed - especially my bride! I've never had anyone there be rude to me at all - they are very casual and relaxed. My aunt lives in Mt. Juliet and she buys all of the cookies and pies and cakes we have for every single family gathering from there. The chess squares - AMAZING!!! She loves the bombs too - haven't tried one - but she and her kids love them! If you are anywhere in the Nashville Metropolitan area, get your goods here! Pros: Extremely moist cake, great icing, chess square - amazing! Cons: Very small store front - not a lot of room for a lot of people - which there are b/c they are fabulous! more

The best cookies I've ever put in my mouth! 12/17/2008

We had a cookie swap last night, someone brought cookies from here. AWESOME!!! Highly recommend! Everyone else baked but these were the best by far. They were the frosted Christmas trees, it was like a cake like sugar cookie, it has a hint of a lemon. MMmmMMM . . .delicious! I'm combing the internet looking for the recipe. more

Marsha & The Hermitage Bakery are the BEST! 9/26/2008

I stop in at The Hermitage Bakery about twice a month, and I'm never disappointed. The pastries are sooo yummy (best Creme Horns I've ever had!), and her Bombs are the bomb. And do try a Napoleon for a special splurge. Cheese bread is fabulous and the sourdough bread is really uniquely good. If you haven't had the Chocolate Chew cookies, you MUST try them. They are low fat, but you would never guess that. Friends who have had the cakes say they are equally wonderful. Marsha is always very attentive and friendly. My two grandsons think the bakery is the best place in the world to stop for treats! The problem is that there are so many good ones, it's hard to choose. I usually don't bother; we just split the pastries into pieces and try 'em all. No other bakery in the area comes close to being as good as this one! I'd travel across town if we moved, just for a taste of one of their goodies. Stop in some time: you won't be disappointed! Pros: Fabulous pastries, cookies and breads Cons: Not a huge selection for a walk in customer more

AVOID TOTALLY - ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR WEDDING CAKE 9/24/2008

This bakery offers the most substandard quality of baked goods. DO NOT consult for your wedding cake. Two of my friends had unfortunate experiences at this ""bakery"", and compared their cakes to a Betty Crocker Easy Bake Oven cake. If you want a cake that tastes like pre-made cake mix combined with water, then by all means indulge. Also, the icing had a defined chemical taste. On my two occasions visiting this unkempt business, I was as disappointed in the cookies and cupcakes for my children, as I was in a simple loaf of bread for dinner. Combine this with a healthy dose of attitude (RUDE, RUDE) from the help, and you've got a major disappointment in the making. AVOID. Ironically, try Krogers or Publix for a step up in quality. more

Beware! They Ruined Our Wedding Cake!!!!!!!!! 9/16/2008

Beware!!!!!!!!!\r Hermitage bakery was recommended to me by my local Publix bakery clerk. We were in the market for a varity of cupcakes for our ""wedding cake"" cupcake tower.\r They seemed friendly enough although distracted during my visit. We ordered 200 cupcakes along with an 8 inch cake for the top tier. All of the cupcakes were supposed to be iced in white with a tiny sage green rose bud and the top cake was supposed to be smooth plain white.\r My sister picked up the order the morning of my wedding and much to her surprise they were iced in florescent rainbow colors! She informed the clerk that the order was wrong and the clerk proceeded to argue with her. Finally saying, ""What's the big deal? You should have color at a wedding anyway.""\r Imagine my surprise when I walked into my reception and saw a huge tower that looked belonged at a circus!\r Even better when my mother contacted them after wedding to complain the woman on the phone refused to do so much as apologize!\r Beware! Do not trust this bakery!!!!!!!!\r Cons: horrible customer service more

Poor first impression 6/16/2008

I looked up this bakery on line and read the comments so about it, plus the fact that it was a local bakery made me even more excited about visiting it to inquire about having them make my wedding cake. I know that Saturday's are the busiest days; but I only have Saturdays off. I work full time during the day and attend school in the evenings. I entered the bakery and was greeted buy a very nice lady. I told her that I knew they were busy please help the other people and not to worry about me. She gave me albums of pictures to look at and wasn't being rushed by me at all. She told me that they like to make an appointment during the week so that we can taste the cakes and make decisions. I explained to her that I only had Saturdays off and she said she understood. Another customer came in and I told her not to worry about me, so she politely went to help them. I figured when she came back maybe we could work out another Saturday. Then out of no where came another employee she handed me a paper and pointed to their phone number and said they were too busy on a Saturday to do this sort of thing. That I needed to make an appointment. I was shocked at her attitude and approach to me. I told her I only had Saturdays off and didn't have the time during the week that I had explained this to the other lady. She In so many words said they didn't have time for me. Then as she turned around to walk off she used quotation fingers and said ""everyone has to get 'married' and they have to have a 'wedding cake'."" In front of other customers. I was so embarrassed, I just turned and walked out. I could not believe that someone treated me this way. I was not rushing anyone nor was I asking for them to devote their attention only to me. I understood it was a Saturday. But that is all I have and it was my first visit there, I didn't know their proceedures on appointments. I just didn't appreciate being made to feel like a fool in front of everyone. Pros: It seemed like people loved their cakes they were raving when they came in. Cons: Customer service was bad. more

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/3/2008

I have never tasted anything as good as the cakes and pastry they have at Hermitage Bakery. Every event in my family, I make sure to have something from here. Its so wonderful, it is actually hard to describe. The cake is moist, the icing is sweet (but not overload), and the art and creativity is amazing!! I usuallly just say what type of event and ask them to work thier magic. They will ask me if thier idea is what I would like and I have NEVER had a bad expierience, EVER! I would tell anyone, even a stranger to go and try even just a cookie. You will never try another bakery again! Also, just to add, the staff is so very friendly, and helpful. What a place! Please, if you have not tried it, try it today. My son's 1st b-day is coming up and the only thing I was sure of was that Hermitage Bakery was supplying the cake and other sweets :) They also have a yummy line of freah baked bread! Pros: Taste, friendly staff, good price, and easy to order! Cons: None!!!!!!!! more

Try them, you like them 3/26/2008

I call on Hermitage backery at least once a month for ""specialty"" birthday cakes. They not only look great, but taste even better. They have done a couple naughty cakes for me and some themed cakes and they are always friendly. Lana and Marsha are wonderful. Pros: They can do anything you ask for more

Awesome Cakes 8/13/2007

I stumbled upon this bakery 5 years ago when planning my wedding. After checking out a number of local bakeries I knew this was the place to do my wedding cake. Anyone who knows me knows that I love cake especially the icing so this was a decision I did not take lightly. \r \r Hermitage Bakery delivered a beautifully decorated, and more importantly, mouth watering cake to my wedding reception. Their icing is one of a kind...I can tell a Hermitage Bakery cake after one bite.\r \r No birthday is complete for us without Hermitage Bakery. Not only do they taste great, but they are always wonderfully decorated. I typically will drop off a napkin of the birthday theme and the results are amazing. They've done Thomas the Train and Buzz Lightyear cakes just to name a couple.\r \r Although I mainly go to Hermitage Bakery for the cakes, their pies and assortment of fresh baked breads are great!!. I would recommend them to anyone in the Hermitage, Mt Juliet, Donelson area. \r \r One more note...city search gets the address right, but it makes a note that it is in a shopping plaza around the corner from Lebanon Rd. This is where it used to be. It is now right off of Lebanon Rd. across the street from Sakura Japanese restaurant. Pros: Cakes (especially icing), pies and breads are top notch Cons: Cookies could be better...a little dry more
