Best

From the minute I walked in to the hospital with my kitty Quincy, I was greeted by a smiling face and didn't even wait 5 minutes before somebody took me back to a room. The nurse ...

Worst

We fully expected to drop >300 for a check up, blood panel, rabies and distemper vaccinations. But they wanted to do tons more - blood panels that other vets said they order only ...

My two dogs love Heart of Chelsea 11/30/2007

I have recently started taking my two small dogs to Heart of Chelsea and we love it! The staff is always really friendly and informed. One of my dogs is a nightmare at the vet and they are always sweet to him, giving him treats and reassurance. I also love the fact that they are not quick to re-vaccinate, but check their blood-levels first. They really care about what is best for your pet, they don't have Hills Science diet in the waiting area like most vets! They recommend all natural diets and treats which is something I really appreciate. It's reassuring to find vets that are on the same page. Thanks Heart of Chelsea! Pros: Great staff, wonderful vets, friendly service Cons: small waiting room more

A Factory. Over-booked every 20 minutes, crowded, small, hectic waiting area, running nearly 30 minutes late upon arrival without prior notice. 10/6/2007

Bookings are every 20 minutes, I arrived to find a jam packed waiting room (one client waiting with three huge dogs in the middle of a very small waiting area) all seats were taken. I was invited to sit outside on a bench in very hot weather. This is not a calm, healthy environment to bring a terrified pet. I was expecting professionalism, consideration, and respect when I entered. I walked into a chaotic, over-crowded mess. I canceled and left. I arrived a few minutes early and gave notice that I was leaving, more than The Heart of Chelsea staff offered me. Perhaps Heart Attack in Chelsea would be more fitting. Pros: Staff is kind and friendly Cons: Owners are about big money. Policy is to over-book, not notify clients, expect them to wait forever. more

In Response to Complaints about Being too expensive 9/5/2007

I am a licensed veterinary technician although I don't work at Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital and I have to vent that people frankly complain too much about cost of veterinary medicine. I have a college degree, a license and 10 years experience and most hospitals offer me a salary of $17,000-$18,000 per year. This is because people rarely have pet insurance so they have to absorb the cost of everything INCLUDING a nail trim. Do you realize that when a clinic performs a nail trim, it takes at least two technicians (2 salaries) along with the overhead, the receptionist salary who made your appointment, the chart that they had to open up and the purchase of the table, the nail trimmers and the quickstop just to give your pet that ""20 second nail trim"". Veterinarians are NOT rich by any means. Most hospitals use the same quality medicine you would find in a human hospital if not better and they have to hire additional staff to restrain your pet which is different than human medicine. In addition, vet school costs more than med school and it pays very poorly so you can rest assure that most vets do their job out of love NOT ""highway robbery"". You should maybe spend a little less at Bloomingdales and the hoyty-toyty Manhattan restaurant and be willing to spend a bit more on your pet's livelihood because most animal hospitals are pretty much a non-profit organization. With my college degree, license and 10 years experience, my salary affords me to live in a bad neighborhood with no health insurance, retirement or sick pay. So much for the ""highway robbery"" you were complaining about. more

Caring & Friendly Staff 8/30/2007

My pup has been going to Heart Of Chelsea ever since I got him 2 years ago. The staff is extremely sweet and caring and Dr. Gabriele is wonderful. Even though my dog is very timid of going to the vet, Dr. Gabriele is very nurturing to him. No real problems with Heart Of Chelsea other than they are real costly. $18 to trim my 5lb pup's nail & $37 for Heartgard medication where these things are significantly less elsewhere. I love Heat of Chelsea but I might have to start looking at other vet's. Pros: Dr. Gabriele, Convenient Hours, Friendly Staff Cons: Too costly more

Friendly Staff 7/11/2007

Their friendly staff makes the vet visit very pleasant for both my pet and I. Their hours are convenient and they are always happy to accommodate my schedule. I highly recommend this hospital for busy people. Pros: Friendly, Clean, and Convenient Hours more

Too many doctors, big lack of communication 6/25/2007

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Gabrielle is wonderful and compassionate. The reception staff and nurses are great, too. On the downside, there are too many people in the office. We had a call confirming an appointment for the next day while our dog was hospitalized in their facility. We were asked to give the same test to our pet several times, in spite of the extremely expensive cost. We did the test twice, both times it came back negative, but doctors continued to insist that the results were faulty. Our pet saw several doctors and several times. Several times, we received conflicting information. more

Friendly and Timely 6/7/2007

I've been to two prior vets (costing me a lot of $$$) with my puppy, Lilly, and had yet to find one that had friendly (and competent) staff, a spotless facility and flexible appointment times (but ON TIME appointments)...so I kept taking my puppy (and my $$) elsewhere. Pros: clean, loving, excellent front desk (and other) staff Cons: ?? more

Friendly, kind, thorough and honest! 6/1/2007

I was so impressed with my visit to Heart of Chelsea today with my kitty. The office is pristine (no weird vet/animal smell at all!), everyone that works there was incredibly friendly and the doctor's assistant and the doctor with both so gentle and kind with my scaredy cat. You do end up paying for such great service, I was pretty surprised by how a routine visit, including rabies booster and general stool/bloodwork quickly added up to $340. But the thing that blew me away was when they called me after I had left and told me they were adjusting my bill to make it slightly lower. I had the $30 coupon from citysearch for first time visitors, and when they rang me up it only took off $25, lovely Jen noticed and was making the change. So honest! I would recommend this place to anyone who doesn't mind paying for top notch care. Pros: Amazing gentle and kind care for pets, clean office Cons: A bit pricey! more

It's all about Dr. Gabrielle! 2/26/2007

It was like love at first sight, Dr. G and Hero, my puppy. The only person that could make her still for all of the examination. The best part is that Dr. G moved back from San Francisco. I hate to go to doctors, but even my dog is willing to go to the vet! Pros: vets, staff, hours, location Cons: $$$ more

Top quality at top prices 11/26/2006

This place has great service with extremely caring and courteous staff. We couldn't imagine better care for our dog. But, it's incredibly expensive. For literally a 20 second nail clipping, it costs $19.20. If you don't have pet insurance, like us, be sure to ask for detailed and specific pricing before any services and have your platinum card ready. Pros: Excellent staff and service Cons: $$$$$ more

I love Heart of Chelsea 9/14/2006

I had been looking for a vet that was a combination of holistic and traditional healing. I ended up finding Heart of Chelsea after having to take my cat to the emergency room because she was gagging and drooling. I dealt with 3 of the veterinarians at Heart of Chelsea (Drs. Siebert, DePauw and Gabriel - please excuse any misspellings). They took great care of Ariel (and me) and they listened to me and answered all my questions. It looks like Ariel had a viral infection. We started going to Heart of Chelsea on Monday and today (Friday) she seems to be pretty much herself again. I'll be taking my 5-month-old kitten to Heart of Chelsea tomorrow and would recommend them to anyone. Pros: They really are caring, they listened to all my questiions (repeatedly) and prescribed a combination of traditional medicine and stuff I could get in the health food store. Cons: Like all veterinary care, it's pricy (but not more than other places in the city). more

Great animal hospital 9/10/2006

I recently got a new puppy and decided to try The Heart of Chelsea. They gave me the guidance that I was looking for! Before every appointment we get a reminder call, after every treatment we get a follow-up call. We feel very confident that our puppy is getting the best veterinary care. more

Kind, friendly, knowledgeable staff. 8/29/2006

We took our Havanese puppy to Heart of Chelsea and the staff was excellent. They were kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. The vets are competent and professional. We would highly recommend this place and do not mind making the commute for superb service and care. more

Helpful and Friendly Vet 8/22/2006

They have a great staff. The people who answer the phones are all very polite and helpful. They do all they can to squeeze you in for emergency visits. Plus, they offer great tips for your pet while you are there. Although there is some sales pressure, they are very understanding if you do not want to buy certain products on the spot because you have another preferred supplier. Pros: Clean, Friendly, Accomodating Cons: Some Sales Pressure more

My Dog Loves the Vet! 8/13/2006

HOCAH has given excellent care to our Brussels Griffin since day one. We are in the process of applying to a dog run and the staff has been very helpful with the process; even going so far as to contact the dog run on our behalf. Pros: Very professional Cons: Not cheap more

Great for first time pet owners 8/3/2006

The different veterinarians at the animal hospital are qualified and their backgrounds are available on their informative website. The 2 kittens we adopted were seen right away. Great advice was given for the first time pets from food to examinations that were not necessary until they were ready. We were not rushed by anyone and any and all questions were answered. Staff follows up with calls for upcoming appointment the day before and call after appointments with any results for tests done on the animals. The vets are available for emergencies. If this is your first visit ever to a vet and you're concerned about a full physical on a first visit, even if the pets ""don't need it"", then you're probably not very serious about your pet. I would recommend them 100%!! Pros: Great Service! more

Great service, clean and safe environment for pets 7/27/2006

I took my new puppy to heart of chelsea and they were great. They knew exactly how to distract the pup during unpleasant exams and shots so that the puppy was still comfortable. They also have the best treats there - nutri cal is my puppy's favorite! Recommended! Pros: friendly staff, clean environment, treat pets well Cons: costly... they charge you for a full physical exam, even when you go for a quick look more

Huge Heart! 7/24/2006

I have to say that I love Heart of Chelsea ... they always get Sandler (my dog) right in, there is never a long wait, and they let me bring in my questions (which is usually a long list!) and I have never felt rushed. They always call the day after a visit to check up and I have never felt pressured to give Sandler any ""extras"" especially because I am on a tight budget. Sandler and I have moved around a lot so we have been to many different vet's. I was never really happy until we came to Heart of Chelsea. Everyone is so friendly and helpful!! Pros: friendly people, never wait, easy to get an appt. Cons: a little expensive more

excellent vet for your pet 7/18/2006

I was new to this animal hospital and my dog had not been to a vet in quite some time. No one there ever made me feel badly about that fact, instead just focused on helping my dog. He had dental surgery (with some teeth removed) and recovered so well. He is like a brand new dog. Our vet called me pesonally and was happy to answer any of my questions and concerns. The cutest detail is that they write up a little summary of the procedure and how the animal acted and behaved. Check out the quote up on the walls of the hallway because it is a beautiful sentiment of how we should treat animals. Everyone is fantastic there and I would highly recommend them to anyone! Take a minute and pet the cat and dog that hang out there too-they enjoy the free treats provided (as did my dog!). We are taking our cat there next! Pros: extremely helpful, considerate, professional Cons: NONE more

A wonderful vet and great experience 7/12/2006

In a city where it's so hard to find good customer service and people who actually care, this business stands out. Everyone is so friendly and courteous and everyone who works there is a true animal lover. I have been taking my dog there for a year and a half and have never had anything other than a positive experience. I just recently obtained a new rescue dog, and had her spayed by the adoption center. That night when she seemed to be in more discomfort than usual for this type of operation, I called Heart of Chelsea - and though I had not gotten the new dog spayed there the doctors were so helpful with recommending what to do. Now we are in the process of treating her for complications and would not dream of going anywhere else. Not only are all of the doctors excellent doctors, the customer service is amazing and the staff will take time to explain the situation and treatment with genuine concern. Pros: Great staff, good ambience, caring more
