What this business can improve on...

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/22/2014

I agree with Justin. He was the best in NJ and is opening a second salon in a much more tropical state. I assume we're all in the market for a new stylist as it will be impossible for him to split his time. Any recommendations? more

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/16/2014

Haruo is the best in the industry. If you can tell me another stylist with this talent, please post. I understand Haruo is leaving to open a salon in another state and I'm very upset. Seriously, where will the Haruo followers go? Suggestions? more

The HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE!!! I never thought my hair could look and feel this GREAT! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/22/2012

So, the hair color rivals anything you would get in Manhattan; the best, hands down, I've found in NJ. I can't say customer service is an ultimate priority, but it's a small price to pay given the convenience of NYC style in New Jersey. more

A month ago, I made an appointment for 6/12/2012

A month ago, I made an appointment for hair straightening, the earliest appointment being in five weeks. While on vacation, the salon called and left a message to come in for a consultation. Being out of the state, I could not make it there that day - I actually didn't even know about it until I came home from vacation. Needless to say, my appointment was canceled. I was never told I had to have a consult when I made this appointment, nor was I ever told my appointment was canceled, although the receptionist said she tried to reach me. Growing up in Japan, I have had this treatment three times before and the procedure is as common there as getting your hair colored over here. I am baffled and deeply disappointed by their lack of communication and follow up. I am frustrated that I waited five weeks for nothing. Thank goodness we live close enough to NYC that there are many other options. I will NEVER go here. more

I travel great distances for Haruo 8/9/2011

I am shocked by the negative reviews and find it strange that they follow a steady line of positive reviews. I suspect the new negative reviews may be fake. more

Avoid this hole 8/6/2011

I wish I saw these reviews before I stopped in while I was thrift shopping on the weekend. I spent almost $280 for a cut and color. The cut is OK but the color is eh. This place is a scam... Reminds me of a try hard new york city salon. The owner sure does enjoy ripping his customers off! They lost my business, raised prices 2-3 times in a short time. more

Honestly ""Run, Don't Walk!"" 7/10/2011

I've been meaning to write a review of ""Haruo Noro Salon""... Haruo Noro salon is located in a beautiful area of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Surrounding this chic and trendy salon, are quaint boutique stores, Zagat-rated restaurants, modern bars/lounges, and even a movie theater. Personally, I find it a godsend when dropping off a girlfriend to get their cut/color. In addition, this eliminates the time/energy of having to bridge and tunnel to New York City, pay parking and tolls, just for an amazing grooming experience. Walking in, you'll be pampered to each and every need. They'll hang your coat, remember your favorite beverage (mine's diet coke in bottle shaped glasses), search for the perfect magazine for you (GQ), and even give you a relaxing massage! The stylists here are very compassionate, concerned, and attentive to each clients needs. They'll first have a consultation with you to understand your goals and give you educated advice/feedback. I've never seen a stylist here not authentically working with their client and making sure they're comfortable. The staff is very professional and polite. They'll go to great lengths so that you will feel right at home. As for Haruo Noro, this man is an artist, period. My old paradigms of hairstyling was that it was just hair... he takes it to a whole other level. I believe a hairstyle can literally be the cornerstone of one's appearance, everything else supplements your hairstyle. You'll be in good hands with Haruo... he's fluent in English and Japanese. He'll listen to what your goals are in terms of what you want but will also be honest on whether or not it will work for you. This isn't a stylist that perfected his trade for the money (look at who he's worked for and trained under)... he really is down to earth, compassionate, and a class-act. It really is a treat to see him and I'd like to call him a good friend! In conclusion, ""Haruo Noro salon,"" is my go-to-spot for modern, trendy, and classy hairstyles. You will be cared for like a family member. Your specific goal to achieve a certain look will be met. If you don't respect yourself or don't want to stay well-groomed go to supercuts or a barber, but if you want to look and feel your BEST... go to Haruo Noro Salon. more

""Not Bad"" 10/9/2010

I can understand and appreciate quality reviews of this salon. To a certain extent, I agree with what has been said. The salon itself is nice inside but the staff is very preoccupied. There seems to be one quality stylist there who happens to own the place yet he was inbetween many clients. I didn't like that at all. If you have about 3 hours for a cut/color I'd try it out. Prices are a little steep and don't expect to be ""pampered"" however, you'll get a good haircut/color. It really does break the bank though and I wish prices remained steady. Almost feels as if they charge a higher fee after you get everything done. What are you supposed to say... attach my hair back I can't afford it? more

Overpriced, Under-talented, and Overall Poor 10/6/2010

Note: Owner had co-workers pose as concerned potential clients email me further wasting my time in a very sketchy way. I googled this woman's name EladiaAlvarado to find that she has a website showcasing an event she did with this salon. __________________ Forwarded message: eladia07 Alvarado eladia07@hotmail To karmaiclife@hotmail hi wondering if you can recommend another salon inthe area , im new to NJ and wanted to go to Haruo but now im afraid thanks Elle Preface: Please do not take my word for it. This is just my honest assessment. Form your own opinion and do your own research! Service: Prior to arrival, setting up an appointment with Haruo Noro salon is a hassle in itself. I'm busy throughout the day with tasks and obligations, so waiting 15 minutes for the non-English speaking receptionist (not to sound racist) to search for service prices is inexcusable. Maybe it's because I'm a business person but shouldn't they be properly trained at the very least on prices?! Recently a close friend said they raised the already inflated prices for women's cuts to $120. This is quite the norm for this salon as prices are consistently and drastically being altered regardless of customer loyalty. Upon arrival, you will find the location to be less than stellar. The floor is riddled with hair which poses cautionary hazards and the venue is very tiny compared to salons in neighboring areas. The establishment is in a barren part of Ridgewood, New Jersey. When you walk in, don't expect to be warmly greeted at the door. Not one of the employees asked to take my coat or offer me a drink, so I sat on the couch and read a magazine. After waiting an hour after my originally scheduled time slot, I sat to get my hair washed. During the cut Haruo seemed very rushed and busy. This made me incredibly off ease in what they advertise as a ""tranquil environment."" To see the stylist negligently parading around the salon made me incredibly nervous. When you go to a salon you want to feel stress-free from the rigors of everyday life, not weary and uncomfortable. You want the stylist to pamper and take care of you. Not to mention that I was not given a beverage throughout this whole fiasco. Maybe the owner should have a talk with him... wait he is the owner! Business advice: Don't overbook! While I was getting a blow out, the assistant burnt my scalp with the dryer. All this and I paid close to $300 just for a cut and color in New JERSEY! It turned out to be nothing like the reviews I had read on this site. Which really begs to question whether the 14 some odd reviews (hmm 14 facebook friends ""like"" this) were per request by an employer. Conclusion: Honestly, DO NOT take my word for it. Click on the previous authors below (read the reviews below in fragmented sentences and put two/ two together hmm Non English speaking employees). Call for an appointment and speak with the unfriendly non-English speaking staff. Ask about prices and why they have been raised even for service loyal customers. Check out the venue and location. Observe the staff and stylists as they negligently walk around the establishment with no purpose or morale. After you review this business let me know if it holds true to this statement, ""At Haruo Noro Salon clients are pampered as soon as they step through the doors. This intimate, high-end salon is encased in a luxurious space that exudes style and sophistication"" Fancy description but before you post it make sure you can deliver... Haruo's the best I've found, WORLDWIDE! 6/24/2009

I first met Haruo when he was at Trump Plaza's Oscar Blandi Salon. My hair was always perfect after Haruo cut & styled it. I then followed him to Rita Hazan's and finally to his very own salon in Ridgewood. I was often on tour as a performer, but would wait to see Haruo because I wouldn't trust anyone else with my tresses. Now I live in Rome, Italy and I'm rarely in the states, but whenever I do visit, I make sure to drop by and see Haruo. He's the only one I trust with my locks, worldwide. more

Left feeling like a Star!! 5/13/2009

Haruo and his team are true professionals and attended to my every need. Haruo is extremely talented and absolutely meticulous when it comes to cut and color. You feel like he's an artist working on your hair, however, without the artist attitude. He's very approachable and listened to what I wanted while giving me his suggestions. I left feeling glamorous. I'm a fan!!! more

Best haircut in North Jersey 3/5/2009

I was introduced to Haruo by my sister, who requires near perfection from her hairstylist. Well, I got the most incredible haircut that I've ever had. I have thick curly hairl that is difficult to manange, so it's difficult to get a consistently good haircut...but Haruo did an amazing job. My hair turns out beautiful every time I style it. You feel like you're in the hands of an artist when Haruo is cutting your hair. Pros: quality; service; atmosphere Cons: parking more
