I'm also a former client of Cheri at HB&S. At first, I thought she was great and told family and friends about the place and ended up landing her a couple other clients. I was enamored with the atmosphere of the house and really liked going to the salon at first. As time progressed, I developed the same feelings others have expressed here.
I had a very difficult time getting an appointment - even when I tried to schedule 6 weeks out. I expressed to Cheri that while I was glad for her success, she needed to develop a system to make sure her long-term clients could get an appointment. She showed little concern for this idea.
As a client, I learned of all the drama in her salon between her and two employees who had left to open their own salon. She was unprofessional in how she spoke of them and also how she spoke to her existing staff. I never could quite figure out her husband. He seemed to have no filter at all and would just say whatever came to his mind no matter how inappropriate it was.
As far as the actual service, I found over time that my haircuts got worse and worse. I specifically asked Cheri not to use a razor on my hair and she continued to do so. Regarding my color - I asked about a root only touch-up and she acted like I was a complete idiot and gave me some lecture on color chemistry. As a side note, I now go to a salon in Fuquay and they happily do root touch-ups which seem to be working just fine and save me a ton of money.
It's unfortunate that Cheri is having such a tough time. Again, the house is a great location and if Cheri can't make it work, I hope someone who can will take it over.
Pros: Great atmosphere in old house with fireplace.
Cons: Poor service, bad customer skills, expensive
