All About the Environment 9/30/2009

Ok here it is I have been coming to this restaurant since I first used chopstix. Right when you walk in the door you may have well just teleported to a back ally in japan. the food is amazing and for those of you who don't like the ""yellow stuff"" its just hollandaise, and yeah it is delicious. if you like hollandaise, otherwise leave it. the green stuff is spinach and if you don't like it leave it. they will throw shrimp at you so be ready and if you don't like the atmosphere its because you have never traveled outside your own comfortable little box, get out go to gojo's not just the food the atmosphere. Pros: TASTE Cons: it is built to resemble hidden diner in a back ally in Japan more

Oh Boy has this place gone down hill! 9/27/2009

The staff was acting like they were doing us a favor by waiting on us. The table was sticky and the cook had most of the food on the counter as he was cutting it. I remember when that place was the best. Oh and the yellow stuff they call sauce... for get it I did want gravy. Oh what a waste... they need to remodel and clean up the place. Oh and Japanese restaurants should have someone Japanese working in it some where. If felt like Mexico! Pros: lot of food for the money Cons: Rude staff and very dirty more

Not a good place for weekends 8/11/2009

I have eaten at Gojo's many times. It is okay, but I love the entertainment. I called to make reservations for a medium crowd for a weekend, and was told they do not make reservations for large crowds on weekends. Isn't that what reservations are for? They are still making the money either way. I was really stumped by this because I wasn't trying to make a reservation for 20 or 30 people, only 12. After that bit of information, my friends and I will find elsewhere to go. Thanks Gojo's! Pros: Love eating there Cons: No good reservations more

Great food, Great entertainment 6/25/2009

I went here for my birthday and had a blast. My bf set up reservations so we were seated quickly. The food that they give you throughout the cooking presentation is great and is not included as part of the price for your actual entree. Had a great time meeting new people and enjoying the show. Oh beware of the fire though, it can get kind of hot when they set the grill ablaze. Pros: Food, service more

Best Japanese Steakhouse EVER! :) 4/17/2009

Unbelievable prices for the amount of food you get, great atmosphere and delicious food!! Reservations have never been a problem for me, a lot of fun for a night out! Pros: Pricing and excellent food more

Best in town!!!!!!! 3/13/2009

Excellent food and service. Make reservations and you will be seated within 10 minutes of reserved time more

One of my favorites 2/28/2009

Any viewer that rates the food less than 4 stars doesn't have appreciation for good food. The food is excellent, there is entertainment, and the atmosphere is relaxing. The reason why I didn't rate it a 5 was because I had problems with making reservations in the past. When you call, the host(ess) acts as if they could care less if you come or not, and I found that to be a problem. Other than that, this has been one of my favorite restaurants for 10 years or more. Pros: Great food and atmosphere Cons: Reservations can't be count on more

Awful 1/31/2009

OMG -- I've been to a few Japanese steak houses in my lifetime and this one is by far the worst. The place is smokey, dark and dirty...What is up with that yellow sauce. Yuck!!! How can anyone like this place...I'll never go back. My friend and I both got a sick after eating here. I was suprised no one asked me how to cook my steak. Prices are reasonable but not worth it at all. Cons: smokey, dirty and poor food more

Surly Staff 1/28/2009

The host did not welcome me as I walked in the door, rather he grunted and pointed to the bar, when I asked if anyone else from my party had arrived. Upon our group being seated, which was also an event, we were never offered another drink besides the water we were given in plastic cups. They immediately wanted to take our orders, by the way all must order immediately, no exceptions. The cook made the meal at the table, in shifts, by the time we had our plates in front of us the sides were cold. As we were still finishing our deserts and paying they began to set items on the table to reset it for the next group, which was odd as there were several other tables available. It was a weird and disappointing meal to say the least. more

Best Japanese Steakhouse in KC!!!!! 7/10/2008

My family and I have been going to GoJo' since I was a little gill. the atmosphere is good, the prices are very reasonable, the portions are huge, and the food is THE BEST! Their ""Yellow Sauce"", to die for!!!I I've been to other Japanese Steak Houses throughout the metro and non of them can even come close to comparing. It's getting harder and harder to get reservations throughout the weekend and the seating is very tight, but other then that this is a great and fun place to eat. I would highly recommend this expierence. Pros: Wonderful Atmosphere, great food, reasonable prices, and their ""Yellow Sauce"" is to die for! Cons: Hard to get reservations on the weekends and the seating arrangement is tight more

Best Yellow sauce anywhere!!! And the only Japanese restaurant with Crab!!! 3/28/2008

My best friend and I have always went to Gojo's for birthdays and it all started when we were in college. We went every time we had finals. Now she lives in Florida and when she comes home we actually go at least twice with in a weeks time. Pros: The only place with Crab Cons: Sometimes it is hard to get reservations more

The Fast Food of Japanese Steak Houses 3/5/2008

As I have read the all the rave reviews about this place, I myself nor most of the 19 person party was not a fan and would recommend other restaurants. I'm not one to ""bad mouth"" a place of business, but I have been to many Japanese steak houses throughout the Metro and this was/is by far the worst. If you don't mind the look of being in an old ship (?) and don't mind rubbing elbows with the other guest, as the table are very small, then this is the place for you. Although the price is very reasonable, I for one would rather pay more for more. The soup tasted of Ramen noodles and I couldn't grasp the concept of the soggy croutons placed in it. The ""so crazed"" yellow sauce did nothing but try to cover up the not so good white rice. Vegetables consisted of nothing more than potatoes (which was confusing) onions, mushrooms and very few zucchini. Be prepared to drink only water, coke or sprite as that is all they offer. Unless you proceed to the bar or order the very small bottle(s) of Sake. I?d suggest keep driving down the street to the Plaza until you end at Hibachi's Japanese Steak House. Pros: Cheap Cons: You get what you pay for more

Just another teppanyaki place. 12/7/2007

I'll never understand people's fascinacition with Japanese steakhouses. The people who love these places must be the same sort of people who are often distracted by random shiny objects. It doesnt matter which one you go to, they are all the same. They all do the exact same show, flaming onion and toss shrimp at the customers. The food is all the same. Your choice of chicken, shrimp, and steak cooked on a flat top with a lame brown sauce. The price you pay is rediculous. If you went to any decent sit down restaurant in town and you ordered steak and shrimp for $22 and recieved what you get at gojos you would never return. I know, I know, you pay for the show. But couldnt they at least mix it up a little once in a while? Couldnt they add just a little flavor? As, for it being japanese. Teppanyaki is about as close to authentic japanese as Fazolis is to authentic Italian. For the amount you end up spending you get get a fantastic dinner at a thousand other places. Pros: Fun Cons: Food is lame. more

My Favorite Japanese Steakhouse!! 9/17/2007

Gojo is the first Japanese steakhouse I ever tried.....and to this day it's still my favorite! The ""yellow stuff"" and the ""green stuff"" - yummmmmo! The chefs are a lot of fun, and the wait staff is quick and attentive. The prices are so reasonable, I always have to leave a very generous tip because 20% isn't much on such a small check. Pros: Everything! Cons: Small lobby for as busy as they are more

Great place for Japanese 8/4/2007

My family of four went to Gojo's for the first time last night. As soon as you walk in the decor sets the mood for a great night. The food was fantastic. The yellow sauce and spinach sauce are both a must have. Even my sometimes picky 6yr old asked for more. Dessert at the end was a nice suprise and a perfect compliment to the meal. Pros: Ambience, Food, Value Cons: Not a lot of ""flair"" during cooking. more

The best Japanese! 7/13/2007

I been going to Gojo's since I was a tot. My mom still takes me to this day. I been there 7-10 times a year since I was 5. It is truely the best japanese place I've been too. I love the atmosphere. I have always been amazed by the chefs cooking right in front of you on the table you eat on! I suggest you move back.. It is really hot haha. But I recommend this place to take family, friends, even a date. My boyfriend and I go there a lot. It's a lot of fun! So if you haven't been there yet... You should go! The prices are great, the staff os amazing and the atmosphere is outstanding!!! =] Pros: Everything is outstanding Cons: none. more
