I have been riding at Glen Grove for quite a long time... I started there when i was 7 & have been riding ever since. This place does have certain drawbacks, it is dirty, the scho...

Great Place 8/11/2009

I have been riding there for 5 years. Everyone has been saying that the trainers are mean. Ok, everyone the teachers are not being mean they are trying to keep everyone safe because if your child is not listening it is a very dangerous thing because they are handling very large animals and can be very dangerous. The trainers are like that to keep your safety. once you get good at riding they start putting you on better horses where you can jump higher which is what i get to do. Pros: learn how to ride well, safe Cons: dirty more

Not a great place for anyone who love horses... 8/1/2009

I just came from Glen Grove inquiring about pony rides and found it amusing that I saw some of what other writers have wrote about: There was a class of four pre-teen girls being largely ignored by their instructor who was on a cell phone, and when the lesson was over the instructor and her friend (another teacher?) bolted and left the kids to handle the horses on their own. I walked back to show my kids the stables, and no one was watching these girls to make sure they were tacking correctly. They are definately in this for the cash. Pros: None. Cons: Dirty stables, nasty staff more

It is a very good place 7/5/2009

Just came across some of the reviews about Glen Grove Eq center and I felt compelled to speak out. Pros: They know what they are doing Cons: They actually know what they are doing ! more

not so great 6/16/2009

i've been riding at the stable for few years now and i have to say that i have learned a lot. My instructor is pretty great because not like others she doesnt yell or criticise me in a mean way. I say not like others because all of the other trainers that i have seen are always yelling at the kids and making them feel bad. Other thing is , that the instructors are always talking on their cell phones and not always pay attention to the kids. I even had an incident that my trainer simply didnt show up and the owned was clueless and of no help. Pros: horses are great Cons: instructors more

Not the place to go! 3/18/2009

I would not recommend going to Glen Grove because first of all, when you walk in to sign up for a lesson, the front desk person acts like she simply does not care! And she is not the nicest person, either, from the last time I've been there. Also, my instructor, would talk continuously throughout the lesson with the fellow instructors, or talk on her cellphone. ALSO, we only spent about 20 minutes, rather then 30. Waste of money!! And then my instructor would leave early, and tell me to put the horse away myself (which at the time I had no idea how, seeing as how I was a beginner). During the lesson, my teacher would yell something to me, but I wouldn't understand it because there would be other teachers yelling at the same time! Another thing to add is that one lesson, my teacher wasn't there so there was another teacher, and she just told to me to keep jumping this jump over and over again while she went to talk with other people. She wasn't even paying attention to me!! She simply told me to do something, and then leave me. I really don't recommend this stable, for so far, it's the worst. more

not a pleasant atmosphere 1/26/2009

the instructors are mean! The front desk people are nice enough, but the instructors have issues! The stable people are also on the bitchy side. Like other people said, the stable is dirty. more

love it 1/4/2009

I've been riding there since I was in 2nd grade (I am now a Junior in highschool), and i love it! the barn itsself is a little dirty, but the cute ponies/horses, trainers, and other riders there really make up for it. I would reccoment it over Freedom Woods any day. Pros: pretty outdoor area, nice horses, nice people Cons: a little dusty/run down more

Alex's Views 10/19/2008

I have been riding for one year, and i am the youngest jumper and rider at Glen Grove. The first instructor that I had was not very good, but she moved away, and now I have Joanne who is the best at the stable, and the nicest teacher anyone could ever have. I also have a teacher with the same name as mine! Alex! Pros: a couple of great trainers..location to Chicago Cons: dirty, dirty! more

Great school horses, great instructor 9/21/2008

My 8 year-old daughter has taken lessons from Hillary at Glen Grove for a few months, now. Prior to that, she took lessons at Freedom Woods. I think both stables are great, but we continue to prefer Glen Grove for a few reasons. First, her trainer really does a great job of instructing her in a positive way and also just letting her ride. During my daughter's half-hour lesson, she spent the majority of the time actually trotting/cantering/jumping, while at the same time, working on technique. At Freedom Woods, it seems more time is spent honing technique and less time actually riding. Second, the school horses she's ridden (Terra, Simon, Lily, Tweety) are really great. They trot or canter continuously, as opposed to the horses at Freedom Woods (CJ, Princess, Eli) who tend to be more stubborn and rarely make it around the entire ring before stopping. Third, the instructors and front desk folks are really nice. I always feel welcome at Glen Grove. In truth, though, I would say the same about Freedom Woods, too. Last, Glen Grove is a little less expensive (lessons are $40 for private, $35 for a half hour group - compared to $45 for a private at Freedom Woods). I would highly recommend Glen Grove! Pros: Instructors, Horses, Price Cons: The only con: it's not the ""prettiest"" stable more

horrible instructors 9/14/2008

the instructors are simply unbearable. I has Jenny, and i tried really hard to get along with her but all she would do was scream at me and make me feel like i was an idiot. After a while i just started skipping lessons or hoping that i'd get a call from the office telling me Jenny couldnt make it (i got many of those). There is however an upside, although she was mean and bitchy, i did feel like i was learning but in the end, the price to pay was simply too high and I stopped attending. more

Extremely Unpleasant Place 7/21/2008

My 10 year old daughter was so excited to be taking her first riding lesson a few weeks ago. However, the instructor at Glen Grove almost completely wiped that out in the first 10 minutes of the lesson. She was so gruff and irritable with our daughter that my husband and I almost told them just to stop right then and there. We didn't because we didn't want to completely ruin it for her and she seemed OK. When they asked us if we wanted to set up another appointment for the following week, I was reluctant but my daughter said yes. However, when we got in the car my daughter started crying about how nervous this woman had made her but she wanted to try one more lesson with her before giving up. more

WORST stable i have EVER ridden at in my life!!! 7/10/2008

Glen Grove is a terrible place to ride. All the trainers do is scream at the kids. I am a twelve year old girl and I have been riding with Glen Grove for 3 years and I am currently switching stables. I have had many issues with Glen Grove such as, My Mom told my instructor (Gail) that I was not able to make my next weeks lesson and the next time we came we had to pay for the lesson I missed because Gail had supposedly forgotten to tell the front desk i was not able to make it. Also the people there are rude and obnoxious and other trainers are not even paying attention to there riders. One trainer named Susanne always lets one of her riders just run around and do whatever she wants. I definatly do NOT recamend Glen Grove and i have ridden at other stables before and Glen Grove is the worst stable i have EVER ridden at. more

Glen Grove Equestrian Center 4/20/2008

the place is great! the teachers are strict but only because the want the best for the student they are teaching. the teacher that that teaches me is the best because she does her best at getting my favorite horse. Glen grove teaches its students how to tack up, and lead the horse. Pros: Thumbs up more

best stable to ride at 4/2/2008

i really disagree with the people who said it was bad, i have been ridding there since i was 7 and i am 14 now and i have learned a lot since i have been ridding. the trainers might come off mean at first but when you really get to know them they are really nice. they have a lot of schooling horses for each level of ridding, the only bad thing about it is that it is so popular that there isn't a lot of spots available so you can be put on the waiting list and they will get you in as soon as possible. i no some people say that they are ridding with other people, but that is as you progress on in you enjoyment of ridding that you will get to learn with another person. you have to start out with a private lesson first though. they have an indoor and an outdoor ring, so it is good thought the year, and my trainer is the best trainer you could ever have, she is nice, funny and really takes her job seriously. so i highly recommend this stable for anyone of all ages to come here to learn how to ride. Pros: serivce, trainers, horses, and price Cons: waiting more

great stable ever 2/24/2008

it is the best stable ever.the trainers r amanzing and have good info and teah good i have been there for 2 years and i own a horse and i am and advanced rider there and have taken blue ribbons in shows there.the trainers are amanzing and i would reccomend going there for lessons more

Not a good place for lessons 11/19/2007

I've been trying to find good riding lessons for a long time, and this place is the worst so far. Istructors are young, mean, have no manners, and no enthusiasm to work with you. I paid for a 30 minute private lesson and was riding only for 20, not to mention that the instructor was teaching another person at the same time. Most of the time the instructors are sitting and chatting with each other without paying any attention to riders. At the end they told me they didn't have any instructors available on the weekends after i went there few times. The horses are fine, and I liked that they saddle and unsaddle the horses themselves, but the service is very poor. I recommend Freedom Woods Farms across the street, which is not perfect either, but better than this one. more

Horrible For Private Lessons 8/22/2007

I was extremely dissappointed with the instructors at Golf Glen. Bad attitudes abound! Riding for my son was to be an exciting, and positive experience. The instructors seemed bothered by having to teach, screamed out directions while other instructors were screaming out directions as well. Hard to hear, and my son was belittled because he did not follow the ""correct instrutrors"" directions, not an easy task when multiple directions are being yelled out at the same time!!! Cons: Not A Good Place For Lessons more

If you love your horse... 8/20/2007

I don't have a horse, but plan on getting one. When I do, I am highly considering boarding it at Glen Grove. Even though GG isn't quite as aesthetically pleasing as some of the otehr nearby equine facilities, it's way better for the horses. Even though it's located in a suburban area close to the city, the turnout is great relative to other local places, and there's tons of grass for horses to snack on. At the other closest stable, the reception area and showring are beautiful, but the turnout stinks, and there is absolutely no grass for grazing! Your horse will be happier at Glen Grove. more

Not the place to go 8/4/2007

Pros: Beautiful, well kept Stable, healthy stock Cons: Self absorbed Stable Manager, too young and volatile to Instruct young children more
