i love this place! everyones nice! theres good horses, good service and really nice people. i always feel welcome and im always greeted by the desk lady or by the people at the office when i first i walk in. theres even working students to get the horses ready for you if you want so you dont have a hard time tacking up! they give them baths and they clean out the horses waterers and they take good care of them. the trainers are all really really nice, I love all of them! they actually care about you and the way you ride, theyre funny and all amazing riders (unless they physically cant ride anymore) I just love all of the people there. more

The location is great, esp. if you live in Chicago. The trainers are all really nice when you get to know them. They are all very experienced. The kids around the barn are great. The desk ladys are kind as well. You have to give this place a chance!!! :) more

I have been riding for one year, and i am the youngest jumper and rider at Glen Grove. I have Joanne who is the best at the stable, and the nicest teacher anyone could ever have. I also have a teacher with the same name as mine! Alex! more

I've been riding there since I was in 2nd grade (I am now a Junior in highschool), and i love it! the barn its self is a little dirty, but the cute ponies/horses, trainers, and other riders there really make up for it. I would reccoment it over Freedom Woods any day. more

learned a lot 4/27/2012

I have been ridding there since i was 7 and i am 14 now and i have learned a lot since i have been ridding. the trainers might come off mean at first but when you really get to know them they are really nice. they have a lot of schooling horses for each level of ridding, the only bad thing about it is that it is so popular that there isn't a lot of spots available so you can be put on the waiting list and they will get you in as soon as possible. i no some people say that they are ridding with other people, but that is as you progress on in you enjoyment of ridding that you will get to learn with another person. you have to start out with a private lesson first though. they have an indoor and an outdoor ring, so it is good thought the year, and my trainer is the best trainer you could ever have, she is nice, funny and really takes her job seriously. so i highly recommend this stable for anyone of all ages to come here to learn how to ride. more

I tried so hard to make this place work, but they disappointed me so often that I decided to stop riding here. First of all, charging $40 for what Glen Grove calls a 30 minute riding ""lesson"" is ridiculous. There is barely any teaching going on. From my experience, and from what I witnessed, the instructors are disinterested and mostly watch the riders they are ""teaching."" Secondly, every one who works here is unfriendly. The instructors are generally apathetic, but they are better than the young ""working-students"" who hang around the barn. They are at best unhelpful and standoffish, but at worst rude, bratty, and totally unprofessional. They ignore everyone else at the barn and act like they own the place. I have even overheard them talking about inappropriate things and wild nights out in front of children taking lessons. I paid for my lessons myself, and chose to leave Glen Grove. But as a warning to parents sending their children: I noticed instructors virtually ignoring kids when the parents weren't present. They have them walk/trot around the arena with out saying anything more than ""heels down"" in the span of 15 minutes. If you are paying for a riding lesson, I would think there would be teaching involved. It is really too bad, because Glen Grove is one of the only barns located close to the city and the Northern suburbs. Yes, the barn is old, and it could be much better taken care of, but I could deal with all that. I just wish the people who worked there were nicer and at least pretended to care! more

Very disappointing. 9/27/2011

My daughter has been riding for 3 years at another barn in a different state. She understands riding, horses and jumping courses. The only thing the instructor did was have her walk and trot for 85% of the lesson. The instructor was texting as she was ""instructing"". The lesson started 20 minutes late (for a 30 minute lesson). After three lessons, she had her try two ""X"" jumps. These lessons are geared for those who just want to try and ride a horse, not for someone who's truly interested in riding and progressing as a rider. more
