Drinking Waitresses! 3/22/2011

Tried out the new place in Narberth. We had a group of 5 ladies. We ordered 4 apps to try, they were all very delicious. It did take a while for our dinners to be served, but we were ok with that. It was just the lack of attention shown by the wait staff. They were also drinking while working which was a real shock. Right in front of the customers, I've never seen that. The food was wonderful and the presentation, suburb. Hats off to the chef and cooks. Get the staff some customer service training! Also a $2 cork fee? Really, please. more

Excellent Food, Great Atmosphere 3/14/2009

My wife and I have eaten here 3 times now and our meals have consistently been excellent. Menu varies by season so Margot is always adding new dishes, although she does keep some favorites on there. Especially recommend the warm goat cheese salad and scallops. Service is usually good although tonight there seemed to be some new waitstaff. The open kitchen is great and the decibel level is fine. Bonus: it's around the corner from our house. Pros: food, atmosphere, byob, location, takes credit cards Cons: service ok more

excellent food and atmosphere 12/30/2007

We live in the neighborhood and have wanted to try Margots' but had hesitations given some of the prior lackluster reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. The goat cheese salad and grilled artichoke heart appetizers were great. The Chilean sea bass was wonderfully prepared and the pulled pork was likewise delectable. Presentation was good and portion size was quite large for fine dining. The service was prompt and the atmosphere was cozy. It was not cramped or overly noisy. We will go definitely go there again. Pros: good food, good ambience, pleasant staff, BYOB more

not good 8/5/2007

we were looking forward to eating at Margot, but sadly were disappointed. Calamari was good, but the Postones were like shoe leather. Food came out luke warm and nothing was done to correct out. Main course was the same, 1 good one horrible. Crabcake was good, not the best in the area, but ok. Filet was horrible. Again, luke warm, grey in color and terrible taste. Waitress offered to have the kitchen make another one, but by that point we just wanted out of there. People across from us grumbled about there dishes not being warm either. Restaurant says they take American Express, but when I went to pay they check they said only Visa and MC. Too many other really good BYO's in this area, no need to go here. more

A little DUCK will do me! 6/14/2007

Recently dined at this adorable small BYOB, and loved it! Summer menu is full of wonderful cullinary creations that have me wanting to go back. Softshells were amazing (too bad their seasonal). The Salmon and Pork dishes are a must try, the pulled pork was so delicious, it must have cooked for days. The service was a spot on and the wait staff is as cute as they come.\r Great Job Margot!\r See you soon... Pros: BYOB Cons: No champ glasses more

Sadly, a mediocre experience 4/24/2007

Reservation for 8:30, we waited 40 minutes. Nowhere to wait... the inside is a joke and when you wait for a table you are constantly in the way of waitstaff going in and out the front door to serve folks on the sidewalk. When we were seated we were offered no free appetizers for being made to wait that long or anything... plus they were out of bread and we were just told it matter of factly, not apologetically. But none of that would have mattered had our expensive meals been really good. But... they weren't. They were just OK. Nothing horrible, but definitely nothing worth going back to. When you can make a much better pork tenderloin dish than the one you ordered you realize the evening was a bust.\r \r An incredibly loud and cramped space, but the servers were nice and considerate and they tried their best. Maybe if this place works out the kinks we'd go back, but for the amount you pay, there are LOTS of better BYOBs in the area to go to. more

Nearly Perfect Warm Goat Cheese Salad 4/23/2007

My fiance and I went this weekend and enjoyed a nice evening. We LOVED Carmines here so the BYOB theme idea continued in the same location seemed like a good idea. We started off with the Warm Goat Cheese salad was almost the best I have ever had... the goat cheese rounds were generous with a nice thin crunchy crust. The dressing was bit light which kept it from the #1 salad award. We also had the sweet potato pancakes... basically tasted like smashed sweet potatoes...great smashed potatoes but not quite a potato pancake. I had the fish special and my fiance had the Duck for our entrees .The duck was very good but he said it was very similar to the duck he has had a few times before at Carmines. My fish special was solid but not out of this world and the bread pudding dessert was just as everyone else has said... divine! Unfortunately, the service was quite slow... especially after we finished our meal. I think this place has great potential and perhaps I would try it out again in a year but there are a few kinks to be worked out... Good luck Margot! Pros: Warm Goat Cheese Salad, Chocolate Bread Pudding Cons: Slow Service, more

City-Feel In The Suburbs 4/18/2007

I was recently in the suburbs (live in Philly) and decided to try out Margot, which I had read about in a few publications- Philly Style, Philly Mag, and I think Main Line Mag. Anyway, it was such a pleasant experience and I felt as if I was in the city. The place is beautiful, the staff is quick and efficient, and I loved the food...right up my alley. I ordered a bunch of things and really enjoyed everything. My friends and I ate way too much (it was just too good!) and had a great time. Now I'm recommending it to everyone I know. I think I'm going to bring some business associates out there soon for a meeting and now my wife is dying to try it. So, I will be back soon. Oh, and by the way, 12Gracie, there is a sign on that bathroom door that says to lift the handle when you lock the door! Come on! Pros: Great Food, Lively Atmosphere, Efficient Service Cons: Wish They Delivered To The City! more

This Place Is A Keeper 4/18/2007

Gracie seems totally off base here. The food is amazing, the service is prompt and friendly, and the place is so cute. I had a wonderful time and will definitely come back again soon and have already been there twice. My friends and I have tried a good assortment of items from the menu by now and really enjoy everything....so I feel like I've tested out a good sampling of the food and loved it all. \r Loved the place, keep up the great work at ""Margot,"" and all I keep hearing from friends and family is how wonderful it is! I don't know how, in so little time, that place has such a good ""buzz!"" Just read the new review in Main Line Mag, too...great! Pros: Delicious, Creative Food, Friendly Food, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Takes A Minute To Find A Parking Spot more

Nothing special 4/11/2007

i live in the neighborhood and was interested in checking out the restaurant. i went with a party of three and we were seated quickly. the decor is nice and the hostess was friendly. unfortunately, our evening went downhill from that point. the restaurant is small and the kitchen is exposed, which can be nice, except that you could hear all of the pots and pans banging around. the noise level was also incredibly distracting, as the space does not have much design elements to lessen the noise coming from the table. to add to that, our service was incredibly slow. our waitress forgot about us and i had to ask about our entrees. she told us that they were waiting on the salmon to be finished, which was a bad sign. the food was fine, but nothing spectular. the salmon was cooked well but underdressed. the chicken was incredibly dry and not prepared with the flavorings the menu described. the citrus salad was good, but over-dressed. at the end of our meal, we waited with clean plates for over 15 minutes and had to ask for our waitress in order to get our bill. with a small restaurant with no more than 15 tables and three waitstaff, this was annoying. To add to our evening, the lock on the bathroom did not work and one member of our party was disturbed in the restroom. not recommended for the price. Pros: location, curb appeal, BYOB Cons: slow service, boring food, NOISE more

Awesome New Restaurant in Narberth 2/27/2007

I have to say that I have been to many restaurants in my time and am pretty particular about which ones I like. That is why I am so excited that ""Margot"" has come to Narberth- it is now at the top of my list. I just went for the third time on Saturday night and once again left very pleased and looking forward to my next visit. The food is really great- interesting, tasty and there are so many unique choices. I've made it a point to order something different each time and haven't been disappointed yet. My favorites so far are the goat cheese salad, shrimp & chorizo app, meatloaf and the fish specials. My fiance loves it as much as I do- she loves the food and I think she also loves Margot's story because one day she dreams of opening a restaurant, too. Margot has come over and talked with us everytime we've been there and she's really great....she also seems to LOVE food. Would definitely recommend the place- it's even worth the trek from the city because you almost feel like this place belongs there. Great find! Pros: Great Menu, Cool Website, Perfect Date Place Cons: Parking more

What a Wonderful Place! 2/27/2007

I'm never sure what to expect when going to a new restaurant, especially when they are in the first few weeks of opening, but ended up loving ""Margot."" It is such a nice atmosphere, with the really interesting green-blue walls, the linens, candles and flowers. The menu is amazing and so eclectic- I can't believe this is Margot's first place and she doesn't have any official culinary training. The food was so good and really nicely presented. It's the kind of menu where you would never get bored. I could eat here at least once a week (I've already been there 4 times) and be really happy. It looks like many other people have the same opinion because the place is really jumping for being so new! I definitely recommend making a reservation on the weekends. Margot has even stopped by our table personally, which is a really nice gesture. She is young and personable and makes a great impression. \r Good luck to them and I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the neighborhood. Beautiful website, too! Pros: Really Interesting and Delicious Menu, Great Service, Enjoyable Ambience Cons: Parking more

Good start... potential to be really solid BYOB 1/21/2007

Margot offers a friendly, warm atmosphere. We enjoy BYOBs, so it's always nice to find a new one so close to home. The service was prompt and the timing between courses was well spaced. The winter salad was nice except that the champagne/oil dressing a little bitter. My gorgonzola crostini was quite nice. For entrees, my girlfired had the risotto of the day (red wine risotto with beef medallions) and I tried the duck, which was served with mashed potatoes and fried zuchinni. The flavors were nice but the execution and pairings were a bit off. The medallions were overcooked slightly, which can happen with thin cuts of meat. And my overall meal was heavy. The duck was nicely prepared but may have been better if served with lighter sides.\r \r The owner and staff seem intent on getting input from patrons so they can get it right. I applaud that approach. We'll go back in six months and see how they're doing. Pros: Ambience, BYOB, attentive service Cons: Food is good but a work in progress more

Fantastic new place in Narberth 1/12/2007

I really enjoyed my first experience at Margot the service was great; wait staff was all smiles and didn't miss a beat. The food is packed with flavor, my appetizer of risotto cakes with creme fraiche and a sweet potato pancake with apples and chipotle sour cream, that whole table shared, almost made me forget about the pepper crusted filet I chose as an entree. I left happy and full...really can't say enough about the place; great addition to the neighborhood! Pros: Wonderful food, enchanting ambiance, friendly and professional staff. Cons: The weather was too cold to enjoy the outdoor seating. more

Great New Gem in Narberth 1/12/2007

Just opened in same location as Carmines Creole, which is moving to Bryn Mawr... totally different menu... great salads, big flavors, interesting combinations. I really liked Carmines but love Margot... could eat there 5 nights/week. Prices and service are great as well. Pros: Big Flavors, polite effieicient service, upscale casual / borderline romantic ambience Cons: Even though only a week old, there can be waits more
