Best

Service and food were awesome.

Worst

If you're here on your beach vacation, skip Gaido's and head to Benno's down the street. It has better food, it's half the price and very casual. Drive by Gaido's for a gander at ...

The worst! 7/23/2007

This was the most attended restaurant that I have ever been too where the food was awful. I just don?t understand how people could choose to frequent a restaurant where the food was so bad. Pros: server had good taste in beer Cons: the food and cost more

Fresh seafood, great views, a Galveston tradition. 2/19/2007

Four generations of owners don't seem to have messed too much with the menu at this seafood shrine. To eat here was a huge treat for us when visiting my grandparents in the '70s. Pros: Freshest seafood, treated with respect Cons: Little pricey, but worth it more

Terrible Terrible Terrible 11/21/2006

I wouldn't return to this place if you paid me to. I ate here about three or four years ago and vowed that I would never return. I used to go here with friends and sit in the private club area but I don't think this is the same place it used to be. I even saw Muhammed Ali here when I came for lunch many years ago with a group of girlfriends. That was when it was good but something happened and the food just isn't the same. Awful seafood and I rarely complain like this. Pros: none I can think of Cons: everything.......including the food! more

best shrimp 10/12/2006

I had not been to Galveston in several years, but this is one place I always have to visit.....I have eaten here for over 40 years, and the food is still the best around...we had the stuffed shrimp, and it was outstanding...highly recommend it, and will return again!! more

The Finest Seafood Restaurant on the Gulf Coast and Always Has been 9/10/2006

I have been going to Gaido's all my life. This is a MUST Go place, easily the very best Galveston has had since 1911. It is the real, very real, deal: Family Owned and Operated, One of a Kind, Unique Recipes (the others might have them, they copied from Gaidos). What specifically am I talking about? Crawfish or Crabmeat Bisque. I am a Gumbo NUT, but this is a place to GET THE BISQUE!!! It's named after the man who perfected it in Gaido's kitchen. I have never found another Bisque that comes close to this one a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e!! Crabmeat ag gratin... Great God Almighty!!!! Ambience? This place invented it. To this day, I am very much of the conviction that the seafood restaurant experience can only be fully appreciated if you can see the ocean from your table. And dessert is truly over the top here. You can dazzle your special other and buy the entire dessert tray for like $10.00!!! Believe me, it will wow them every single time, just like Gaido's has wowed me every single time for over 45 years. I now live over 5 hours away and get the urge evry now and again to go to the one and only. Must suggestion for a great Galveston weekend is a stay at the San Luis, a great casual day walking along the beach, got to check out Murdocks, once again, for the cheesy but fun beach souvieners, some quality poolside time with a drink with an umbrella and dinner at Gaido's. It is the best. Pros: The Best, A Reason to go to Galveston all by itself Cons: There are no Cons you crazy fool!!!! more

best restaurant in galveston 6/29/2006

Fabulous fresh seafood well prepared, with some true specialty items on the menu for less pedestrian diners. Plenty of space to wait (which can take a while), spacious, clean restrooms (rare for a beach-front location), professional, friendly, caring service, beautiful decor and ambience, always friendly service, and well-stocked full bar. Pros: food, service, location Cons: a little pricey, but well worth the money more

Memorable dinner with GREAT service 6/25/2006

Having grown up in the area, I took my fiance to Gaido's for his birthday. We had a delicious meal and the best service I've had in years. We also appreciated the casual dress code, as we planned to walk along the beach afterwards. We'll remember this meal for a long time. Pros: Service, Food, Overlooks the Gulf more

Great Fresh Seafood 6/15/2006

Gaidos is probably the best fresh seafood restaurant in Galveston. A dinner for two with drinks may cost you $70 but it is worth it. The service is great and the food is amazing. Everytime I come home to Galveston I go to Gaidos for seafood. I highly recommend the stuffed shrimp! The combo platters come with a salad, meal, and dessert. They are the best deal on the menu. Make sure you get a table by the window so you can see the beach. Pros: Great seafood Cons: You might wait a little more

Great by the Seawall 3/4/2006

My family and I went to Gaido's for my birthday and it was great! The menu offers a great variety of seafood dishes, its a bit pricey...but then again you're paying for the waterfront view. The service was good, but expect for a long wait on the weekends. Definitely worth trying if youre looking for a nice dinner in Galveston. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Price, Wait more

Gaidos is losing it 1/3/2006

My last visit to Gaido's was disappointing. Having grown up in the area, it used to be the best around. This last time the food was average and disappointing for the price. The atmosphere and service are still great. more

A pleasant experience. 7/27/2005

I came in the restaurant expecting a nice elegant meal and I sure did get one! The atmosphere is very romantic yet comfortable. Our waitress was a very nice and helpful older woman who made the dining experience complete. The cheese bread was absolutely amazing and the herbed olive oil was a nice touch. I got the trio of soup...roasted red pepper, bisque, and gumbo. Divine. My boyfriend got a grilled seafood plate and it was good, but not the best I've tasted. The array of desserts is very impressive and the chocolate bread pudding was amazing. The portions are huge and you will not leave hungry. It is pricey, but well worth it epecially if you enjoy a nice dining experience and not just a meal. We will be back. more

VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! 12/29/2004

Been coming to Galveston over 20 years, always eat at Gaido's. 12-8-04 we had most disappointing dining experience. Were put in a corner on side of dining room, even though it was early 6:15 p.m., plenty of seating in main dining room. Service was mediocre. Four people in our party, 2 of 4 did not get the foods they ordered. My shrimp was the color of light sand, not browned at all, not crisp. Food was very poor. Our last time to eat at Gaido's. Price was many times too high for the food we received. Was Xmas and I had looked forward to dining where it was decorated and there were no decorations in the corner of side room where we were seated. I feel you should not have to request a decent table when you arrive early and they are all available. Most disappointing dining experience ever. more

Bad Food 6/6/2004

Arrived in Galveston at 5pm on Memorial Day. Went straight to Gaido's for what I had read was the best seafood around. No wait to be seated, but had to wait for server. Ordered the #6, breaded shrimp and scallops with grilled red snapper, $33. When it arrived the first thing that caught my eye was the snapper. It was about 1/4 inch thick and shriveled. It had a spongy texture and was tastless. The breading on the shrimp and scallops was soggy and the shrimp were very thin. The whole thing was served at room temperature. I would guess the meal had been prepared hours earlier. Very disappointed. more

Fine Dining in Casual Galveston 6/3/2004

Outstanding seafood, attentive staff, resort casual atmosphere, and the list goes on. Favorite for locals. This restaurant has been family owned and operated since 1911 and they are there to make your dining experience a true pleasure. I splurge once a trip to Galveston for this place. If there is a problem, they will correct it immediately or even give it to you pro-gratis. The crab cakes and stuffed shrimp are outstanding. Pros: Parking across street, Seawall--oceanview more

Gaidos 6/9/2003

You might want to take the time to look at the awards that this restaraunt has received by texas highways and southern living including many other notable restaraunt critiques before giving it the rate that you did. Pros: Fresh Seafood, Original Seaonings, Huge Servings Cons: Its all the way in G., Moderate to Expensive more

Amazing & Fresh! 2/10/2003

Gaido's is so historic and the food is very fresh! I love the authentic historic island feel to this restaurant and will travel from Houston for the service and food. The sweet red pepper used in Gaido's crabcakes is such a wonderful surprise and I have not been disappointed in any of the snapper dishes I've tried.....especially the Michael! Pros: Fresh Seafood, Historic Atmosphere, Unique Cons: So far away!, Long wait more

Good Food 12/12/2002

During my first time in Texas, we went to Galveston. And the first place we went was Gaidos. I'll never EVER forget that meal. It was hot, fresh, and delicious. Not only was the food good, but the service was excellent. I cannot wait to go back more

Great if you're over 50 12/12/2002

My husband went there for a wedding anniversary one time, after hearing so much hype about the restaurant. The service was soooo sloooow....dinner took 2 hours! Most of the diners were seniors.....not a very exciting place for the younger set. The food was not all that great either! more

Yummy 12/12/2002

Civilized service w/linen, well prepared seafood dishes in the Grand Ol style. Pros: Good Food, Good Service Cons: Long Waits more

OK, but not the best 11/30/2002

Took the family here for lunch when vacationing in Galveston. The food and service were fine, but this place is a little expensive for what you get. When lunch for 2 adults and 2 children is over $75 and you aren't stuffed when you leave, that's not right. Cons: Expensive more
