good facials, great/affordable mani/pedis 4/23/2009

Their quickie menu of inexpensive versions of spa services is really great. I've gotten some great/fast mani/pedis here without appointments. Their facials are also good but I'd make an appt to do a full facial. It's worth it. Pros: friendly staff Cons: small space more

I loved the whole experience 8/20/2008

From the moment I entered this salon I felt comfortable. This is a difficult feat on Newbury, considering everyone thinks they are better then everyone else. My stylist was very nice and talked to me as if we had known eachother for years. Usually when I go to a salon, it's mildly uncomfortable talking to a stylist about the weather...or shampoo..or..whatever else is going on. She was genuinely nice, and it definately helped me feel at ease as a first timer here. She asked me what products I used and some background info on my hair, then explained what she would use for my specific hair type. The shampoo was done personally by her, which is rare at salons, usually they hand you over to someone else for shampooing. She cut my hair to my exact specifications. I asked about color, and she told me what she thought would be best for my face regarding color, if i decided to come back at a later date. I was amazed that she actually told me NOT to color my hair in the summer, as it is better to do in the winter, because your hair sees less sun. Most stylists would have just made you schedule an appointment so you'd spend more money. My hair looked great, felt healthy, and she styled it with a blowdryer and straightening iron afterwards. I think I found my new salon, I plan to be a regular. Pros: Relaxing and comfortable, great service Cons: Not much of a waiting area more

Re: Bad Customer Service 7/22/2008

Regarding the posting that G Spa requires a $100 credit card deposit: \r There must have been a misunderstanding regarding our cancellation policy. G Spa does not charge a deposit to book appointments. We do however, ask for a credit card number at the time of scheduling to secure appointments against our 24 hour cancellation policy. \r We hope this helps to clear up any confusion. Please call us if you have any questions.\r \r more

Bad Customer Service 5/16/2008

Can't believe they are requiring a credit card deposit for 100.00 to make an appointment for all services. Bad policy will result in losing customers... more

Blah...and dingy 8/30/2007

I went for the pedicure with all the upgrades. It was fine, but nothing special. What really threw me about the place is that it's decorated with a lot of white, especially the pedicure area; but the white has become dirty and dingy....something I would never expect of a place like this. I was asked what I thought about my visit as I was leaving, but the woman who had given me the pedicure was two feet away, so there wasn't opportunity to really say anything (she was very nice, but for the $50 pedicure, I could have gotten a comparable pedicure plus a manicure from a cheapo place) . You're paying for name, location, atmosphere, but I'd like to see things cleaned up so I actually feel like I'm paying for those things and they're putting some of the money to upkeep. Pros: friendly staff Cons: dirty, dingy, overpriced more

Overpriced, bad pedicure 6/22/2007

I went in for the quickie pedicure and was really disappointed. I understood that the quickie service is more of a quick fix than a luxury pedicure, but come on. For the price, it was really a joke. I would have been better off going to a cheaper salon for their $20 pedi. I understand the concept Gspa is trying to go for, but it really just fails miserably. Pros: Good location Cons: value, pedicure more

good pedicure for a fair price 6/11/2007

I've just made my first visit to G Spa and was reasonably impressed...I got a pedicure with all the upgrades (leg massage, special callous buffing (NOT very effective!) and a cuticle trim. It wasn't the best pedicure I've ever had, but it was far from the worst. The atmosphere is very young, and it's a fairly communal space, so if you're not chatty, this might not be your best bet. The pedicurist I had was very professional and did a good job, although my polish started coming off within three days. My cuticles are much happier, though, and my feet are less painful to the eye in sandals than they were before. Pros: reasonable prices Cons: loud and a bit crowded more

Awesome bikini waxes, so-so pedicures 5/20/2007

After searching for months for a spa whose waxing could compete with Bliss' lavendar ones, I am so pleased with both of the waxes I have gotten here. Eun is quick, thorough, and good at distracting you with conversation during the wax without being too intrusive. And while they are never fun, her's are relatively painless and last longer than most that I've had. I'm VERY picky about waxing places and had a really hard time finding a good one since moving here, but I would definitely recommend Eun. I just wish I had found her sooner!\r However, the pedicure I had here left a little more to be desired. The girl was perfectly nice and her massage was good, but the polish job wasn't great...I'm not super talented at nails but I feel as though I probably could have done a better job myself. That said, I didn't speak up and give her a chance to fix it because I felt bad, and what she did do has lasted 3 weeks. Also, I think they may have been a litte pressed for time as it was a Saturday morning. While they let me sit as long as I wanted afterwards, the price ($50 without tip) was too much for what I am used to at other places and I will probably not return for another. Pros: Great bikini waxes (Eun), friendly staff, fun atmosphere Cons: pedicures more

love the beauty bar 1/18/2007

Great beauty bar service...smart idea\r relaxed atmosphere\r nice spa\r recommend the quickie manicure (frenchie)\r my manicurist had expert hands (sorry...forgot her name..she's brunette)\r professional job...my nails were shaped and polished to perfection\r recommend the beauty bar services, quick and professional more

hip, fun, great spa 4/9/2006

Rachel does amazing facials - the best I've found in Boston. I would rate the experience an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10 except that the upstairs area only has rooms partitioned by curtains and I always just pray that there won't be chatty people in the other areas. Hearing others is always distracting but was just awful the one time I got a massage...but it's tolerable for a facial. I love their quicki mani/pedi service! The decor is excellent, and I've found all the staff to be very warm and friendly. Pros: skill, attitude, decor Cons: noisy more

Awesome Facial by Rachel! 3/9/2006

This was one of the best facials I ever received--from the time that I arrived when Rachel discussed my skin type with me, to the end. Rachel is very skilled and knowedgeable and quite easy going as well. It was a very relaxing experience except for one thing--there were other clients having a waxing done in a nearby, curtained-off section. Although Rachel asked them to be quiet, they were still pretty loud and rude. Pros: expertise, value, no sales pressure Cons: loud clients more

Karly - perfect haircut; Rachel - relaxing facial 2/23/2006

Rachel discussed my needs before-hand and NEVER left during my facial. Most leave during your mask. Instead, I got an incredible neck/décolleté massage, w/ a firm but incredibly gentle touch. Although blackhead removal was not thorough enough (done with hands... I prefer the metal tool), She told me about each product as she was applying it. After my facial, my skin looked happy... not beat up. Karly has skillz and works like edward scissorhands! Because of a short wait, she gave me a comp treatment. This woman works FAST and w/ GREAT results. Perhaps too fast for some, but she gave me exactly the cut/style I wanted. I'll definitely go back. Cons: Downstairs feels cramped. Upstairs, the ""rooms"" are curtained off cubicles, but it remained quiet. The prices are higher, but I definitely got what I paid for. Splurge Basic Facial = 85; Haircut w/Blow Dry = 75. Pros: skill, no attitude, speediness Cons: small space, not cheap more

massage 9/26/2005

I came to G spa after a very busy work week and had an amazing hour and a half massage with a therapist named Elizabeth. At first glanze I worried about the atmosphere because it's crowded and busy on the first floor, but trust me it will be the best massage you have ever had! Pros: massage Cons: crowded greeting area more

Clients should READ before complaining 9/5/2005

One woman wrote a review complaining about having her facial done at the bar, on a stool, in front of other clients. NEWSFLASH: ""Quickie"" services are all performed at the bar. If you wanted to lie down and be hidden from other clients, you should have booked one of the ""Splurge"" facials where they take you upstairs to the much more relaxed second floor. In other words, don't complain when you were given what you asked for. Personally, I recommend Sherri for spa services. She's great for facials, waxing and eyebrow shaping. As for manicures and pedicures, you can get better value down the street at 336 Newbury St (closer to Hynes Convention Ctr/ Mass Ave T stop). It's a newly opened nail salon so they're paying attention to performance. Pros: Friendly staff, All in one place Cons: A little pricey more

Facials in the middle of the Waiting Area 8/22/2005

A friend and I came here for the quickie facials. We thought we would have a private area where we would lie down and have our faces worked on. Instead, we sat on stools right in the open area of where other customers were waiting. So basically we were sitting there while everyone was watching us have our faces slathered with white cream. My skin felt nice afterwards, but how embarrassing! I definitely will not come back here until they change this. One good thing though, the staff was extremely nice, Pros: nice staff Cons: facials in open area more

Great staff 7/27/2005

I went to visit a friend in Boston and we chose this spa because they have their own site and we like checking out services, prices, etc beforehand. There was a miscommunication about the service I requested but my masseuse Josh immediately resolved it and gave me what I wanted. The rest of the staff is great and very friendly. I even got a follow up call the next day to see how I liked it and see how they can assist me in the future. Nice people! Pros: Great staff more

Probably the best massage I have ever had!! 5/22/2005

I have had massages at some of the top spas in the world, and last week I had one from Elisabeth, a sweet young blonde from Denmark, and it was probably the best I have ever received! Her technique is flawless, with just the right amount of pressure. And by the end I felt like all my stress had disappeared. I definitely recommend giving her a try! And if you don't feel like forking over $90 for an amazing hour, they have ""quickies"" that are 15 minutes for $15. Pros: Massage, Hip/Fun, Reasonable pricing more

disappointment 1/16/2005

the quickie version of their spa offerings is a waste of time and money. On par with doing it yourself. No benefit whatsover in the experience. Really disappointing. Cons: , messy pedicure, messy manicure more

Great Space 10/28/2004

I get my eyebrows waxed by Kristina. She is great and uses hard wax which is less irritating than strip wax, so I don't leave all red. I have seen another girl and didn't have a great experience but as long as I stay with my usual facialist then all is Zen at GSPA! Trendy hipsters will love this place. Thumbs up to the interior designer. Pros: Fun Atmosphere, Great Staff more

Respite on a dreary day. 6/12/2004

When the sunny day quickly turned into Noah-worthy environs, and I was totally soaked, I was happy to see a spa that offered ""quickie mani and pedi"" for cheaper prices that would give me some time out of the rain. The staff welcomed me without laughing or making me feel uncomfortable for my soaked appearence. I ended up getting the full manicure with Eun for $25--and it was worth it. I was treated to hot towels, a large selection of Essie polishes, and an all-around great manicure. I don't know about anyone else, but I defintely recommend Eun! Pros: friendly service, adroit Cons: , very small interior more
